The Cracks In The Ground

For a few seconds I was frozen, frozen in terror of what I saw. A centipede like creature with wings and claws that could cut skin and a translucent body, it had blood all over its mouth and fangs. As I held it with my hoof in terror, it seemed to have realized that it had been interrupted from what it was doing and decided to struggle and bite me. I held it away as best as I could but all my energy was already drained at that point, so I could only do so much as it got closer and closer to my face. After a few seconds it was so close to my face that it was scratching my face with its fangs, as it got close enough to literally bite my face off I heard a very familiar voice that I was glad to hear shout. “Berg!!” As he said that, a porcelain vase came flying towards me so I hoisted it up and let the vase hit the creature.

The vase immediately shattered into pieces and the creature stopped moving, so I threw it away from me and tried to get up but an excruciating pain in my left wing that stopped me from getting up, so I quickly shifted my head to look at it, and when I saw my wing I slightly gagged as I saw my wing crushed by a piece if debris, I tried moving it but I couldn’t as I had no strength whatsoever. Then, my best friend Sky High whom I knew from childhood until now came over to check on me, as I saw him through my slightly blurred vision because I did not have my glasses, but I knew it definitely was him because of his bright red signature flame shaped hair and his yellow peach body color. “Berg! Are you alright?” “What do you think Sky!?” I said as I point to my wing. “Oh, man that’s bad. Hold on, let me think.” As he finished his sentence he started to think hard on how to get me out, after awhile he shouted. “I’ve got it!!”

“What? What?” He shouted.

“I know how to get you out!”

“Then do it!!”

“Ok.” He said, and he proceeded to grab my standing lamp.

“Are you sure about this Sky?”

“Absolutely!”

As he was done he flew into the sky through my broken roof, in a matter of seconds he was so high that I couldn’t see him anymore. Then, I started wondering what his plan was, but when I saw him flying straight down with the lamp I knew EXACTLY what he was doing, so I braced myself because I knew that Sky was fast, very fast when he was in the sky and the amount of force that he would generate by smashing the debris at that speed was tremendous and would crack the debris. So he got closer and closer to the ground, until he was close enough to smash it and when he did, the rock cracked as I predicted that it would. It cracked so much that he didn’t have to do it again all he did was pull it apart until he could see my wing.

“Berg bad news, you’ve got a broken wing, and a pretty bad one at that.”

As he said “broken wing” I knew I was helpless, helpless to do anything, after all what is a Pegasus without wings? A nothing that’s what it is, at that moment I remembered what I needed to do before all this happened. Get answers. So, I reluctantly asked even though I really didn’t want to know.

“Sky?”

“Yeah, what?”

“What happened?”

After I said that, there was a long pause of silence that was very discomforting. We looked at each other until he said. “I think you should see for yourself.” He hoisted me up and led me to the window. What I saw was …… was …… unimaginable. The sky’s were a dark green and there were these “cracks” that were open in the ground and those “creatures” were flying out of them, and the screams …… they were unbearable. After seeing all that, I fell to the floor because I had lost too much blood from my wounds and I was getting dizzy, so I instructed Sky pack all the stuff that he could salvage and lay me on the couch, after he laid me on the couch I passed out from exhaustion. After awhile Sky woke me up and said he got everything he could find.

“I even found some medical supplies, lets patch you up……”

“No! Not here, not now it’s too dangerous. Lets go some where else”

“Ok. But where do we go?”

“To the train station, we have to find somewhere safe.”

So Sky put me on his back with the supplies and we made our way through town as quiet as we could. As we went through the alleyways and paths through town, there were dozens of the same creature that attacked me feeding on the dead bodies of ponies. After an hour of sneaking around, we finally made it to the train station. But the train station was filled with dozens of ponies scrambling and panicking to get on a train and escape, but everypony was squeezing and panicking, eventually a few ponies were trampled over by everypony else. “Berg, at this point we’ll never get through” My mind started racing for solutions, and I concluded that the only way to get on the train is… “Sky! Head for the luggage compartment.” “Ok!” But as we made our way to the luggage compartment there was a loud buzzing sound that was getting closer and closer so I put on my glasses, and from faraway I could see a swarm of those creatures coming our way because we were making too much noise, I knew at that point that it was either do or die and we didn’t want to die, so I said. “Sky! Run! There’s a whole swarm of them coming!” “Ok!” So Sky started running as fast as he could but I was slowing him down, at that rate I knew we wouldn’t make it so I made a split-second decision and jumped off his back.

“Berg! What are you doing!”

“I was slowing you down. Now go!”

At that point everypony else had realized that the creatures were coming and started to panic even more, it was chaos, everypony was shoving and pushing some even started to climb the train. But we were already at the compartment and the train started to close the doors on some ponies and leave, Sky opened the door and jumped in but I was still running and the train was picking up speed, Sky reached out his hoof “Come on! You can do it!” The train was already almost at full speed but I managed to grab hold of one of the rungs on the train, and before I knew it I was being pulled by the train, so I started to climb towards Sky. But suddenly his encouraging smile turned into a worrying grit, so I turned around to see what he was worried about, then I realized it… the creatures were gaining on the train, so I quickly climbed and grabbed his hoof, and he pulled me in and started to shut the door but one of the creatures managed to scratch me, but other than that I was fine. After the situation calmed down Sky looked through the medical supplies he found and took out some dressing and started to wrap my wing. “Do you know what you’re doing?” “Sure, I read my moms medical book a few times, this should be a piece of cake.” After wrapping my wing he looked at it a few times and concluded that he needed to relocate my wing because it had been dislocated, so he grabbed my wing and forcefully put it back as I screamed in agony. After he was done, we grabbed our bags and opened the doors to the other carriages in hopes of finding a place to rest, when I opened the carriage doors and I saw a lot ponies that were wounded by the creatures and their friends trying to help them in anyway they could, almost all the seats were taken so we walked through a few carriages in hopes of finding an empty seat but there was no luck, but a yearlings voice behind us spoke to us. “You guys need a seat? I’d be happy to share.”
