Darkwings
The Commodity of Kindness
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe train ride into Fillydelphia was mostly uneventful apart from the buffet car, which Flutters indulged herself in for a portion of the trip. With the responsibilities of caring for all her animal friends in Ponyville, she could never even dream of having the time to make such lovely meals for herself. When Fluttershy was not enjoying the delicacies in the buffet car, she mostly slept on the train to make sure she was well rested to enjoy all that Fillydelphia had to offer. She didn't want to run out of energy before seeing all the animals at the sanctuary.
Fluttershy had brought a timer from home with her on the train to use as an alarm, and it had woken her from her slumber about 15 minutes before she reached her destination. About 4 hours after departing from Ponyville, the train came to a halt and the conductor announced to the passengers, "We have arrived at Fillydelphia station! Please watch your step when exiting the train." The yellow pegasus stuffed her timer in with the rest of her luggage and made her way off of the train. The second she stepped on to the platform in Fillydelphia, she whiffed the clean spring air and smiled. It was at this moment that she realized that seeing the animal sanctuary was not going to be the best part of this vacation. Instead, the best part would simply be getting away from her responsibilities back home in Ponyville and relaxing, taking time for herself.
Fluttershy walked with her luggage held by her wing over to a map of the city that was posted right by the information desk at the platform. She was trying to find her hotel. After scanning the map for a few moments, she was able to find it and was ready to begin her adventure. Full of excitement and glee, Fluttershy took her luggage in her wing again and started walking in the direction of the hotel. Her eyes were closed, too busy smiling with excitement and fantasizing about the wonders the day would bring, when she tumbled off the platform and fell about a foot down on top of her luggage. "Owww," the pony said softly. She had a minor sprain of her back leg and a slight scrape of her wing, but nothing she wouldn't be able to walk off in a few minutes.
"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" A stallion's voice said to her. She heard a slight galloping towards her. When she looked up, she screamed and darted back against the platform. Staring down at her was a dark-coated unicorn stallion with a black and gray mane and tail. His face was entirely wrapped in bandages with only his bright green eyes uncovered. Flutters was shaking, staring back in terror, holding her luggage for comfort as if it were one of her friends. The unicorn stallion looked concerned. "Woah! Woah! Easy there, filly. I'm not gonna hurt you," he said reassuringly. "Wh--who are you?" The yellow mare asked, terror still in her eyes. "The name's Golden Bit. I saw you fall off the platform and was just making sure you were alright. No need to be afraid," the unicorn answered back. "Wh--wh--why do you have those bandages on your head?" Fluttershy asked. "Oh, I just had an accident a long time ago where my face got burned. I wear these in public so I don't scare the little foals," Golden Bit responded. Fluttershy's worries were eased at this point when she realized this stallion was not a threat, and she dusted herself off from her fall. "Um...I'm...Fluttershy," the mare said in a squeaky little voice. "You're not from around here, are you Fluttershy?" The pony shook her head side to side. "Well let me be the first to welcome you to Fillydelphia! What brings you here, business or pleasure?" Fluttershy slowly became more comfortable around Golden Bit and stated her purpose. "I came to see the new animal sanctuary here. I love animals. Back home in Ponyville, I take care of all kinds of animals. I feed them, keep them company, and nurse them back to health whenever they are sick," she said to the unicorn. Golden Bit tilted his head to the side and said, "Awwwweee, that's so kind of you." Fluttershy smiled and blushed at her new acquaintance.
The unicorn lifted his head up and said to the mare, "Please, let me help you with your bags and let me get you a cab. A girl like you shouldn't be walking alone out here after all!" "Oh! Well, thank you very much, Golden Bit!" Fluttershy said with a smile. The unicorn surrounded his magic around the pegasus's luggage and walked with her over to the street where he hollered for a cab. When the cab pulled up, Golden Bit opened the door for Fluttershy and she stepped inside. Her luggage was placed beside her. Golden Bit threw the cab driver a sack full of bits. "Please take this kind filly wherever she needs to go, sir," he said. The driver nodded. At this point, Fluttershy couldn't deny this stallion's chivalry was making her heart pine for him slightly. Even though she had just met him, he was doing a thorough job of impressing her. She couldn't contain her blushes or smiles. Before the cab driver peeled off, Fluttershy demanded that he wait. She pulled out a piece of paper and a pen and wrote down her hotel information for the strange, dashing stallion and sent it out of the cab window. "Call me!" Fluttershy said before the cab driver trotted away. Golden Bit walked over to the paper and picked it up, and walked away out of Fluttershy's view.
Within about 15 minutes she had arrived at her hotel. Fluttershy walked inside and had her breath taken away by the beautiful architecture of the hotel lobby. It rivaled that of Canterlot Castle. It had a tall grand rotunda made of ivory and a floor made from spotless black granite. Wood furniture with gold trim was seen everywhere. The mare knew she had made the right decision in her hotel of choice. She promptly checked in and was given her room key. She took the elevator up to the third floor to room 227, put the key in, and entered the room. It was fairly spacious, with the bathroom on the far end of the room and a single, twin size bed against the wall opposite of it. The view was nice too, as Fluttershy's room had a huge window on the farthest wall that overlooked downtown Fillydelphia. She could even see the top of the sign for the animal sanctuary she was here to visit out in the distance. The pony couldn't wait to head over there and begin making new animal friends. Once she had arranged her hotel room exactly how she wanted it, she realized that she had totally skipped her hygiene routines this morning in her rush to make the train on time. She stepped in the shower and adjusted the water temperature; really hot, but not burning, just how she liked it. The pegasus closed her eyes and sighed as the water flowed down her mane, wings, and body. It was pure bliss. Suddenly, that stallion entered her mind again. The heat and wetness from the water and the thought of Golden Bit fused together, and suddenly Flutters wished she was sharing this shower with him, doing what she could to please him. It turned her on just a little bit, but she snapped out of her sexual fantasy when the water's temperature dipped from hot to merely a warm state. "Get a grip on yourself, Fluttershy," she said to herself. "Don't fall for strangers."
The yellow mare turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. She began to dry herself off when she heard a strange noise, almost like a lock being opened. The naturally timid Fluttershy responded with a jump, and began racing scenarios in her head, some of which aimed at calming her down, others aimed at making her more paranoid. "Um...if that's housekeeping...please come back later!" Fluttershy said loudly but with fear behind her voice. Just then, all the lights went out in the bathroom. Fluttershy squeaked in terror. Part of her wanted to believe it was just a spooky coincidence, but her personality wouldn't let her. After several moments, Fluttershy gained the courage to slowly open the bathroom door. She stuck her head out of the bathroom, her mane still wet and dripping from her shower. The room was pitch black. Now Flutters knew something was wrong. It was the middle of the day, and she knew she had left the automated blinds for the huge penthouse window open when she took her shower. Someone had closed them. When she looked to her left, her worst fears were realized. The door to her room was slightly ajar. The pegagus's breathing intensified, her eyes wide with horror. From the little bit of light that shined through the hallway through the open door, the mare noticed a piece of paper lying on a dresser. She was certain she had not placed that paper there. Fluttershy slowly began to inch over to the piece of paper. She wondered if it was just an ad for the hotel that was placed there before she even entered the room, but her fears refused to accept that idea. She walked closer to the sliver of light that shined on the dresser. Once she approached the paper and got close enough to read it, she gasped. It read "Fluttershy <3 Regal Inn, Room 227, 676-413-9945 Ext. 227". She knew this paper all too well. It was the one she gave Golden Bit earlier that day!
Before she could even let the terror instill itself in her, WHACK! Fluttershy was hit on the back of the head with a blunt object and she fell to the floor. She was knocked out cold. Her attacker stuffed Fluttershy into a large suitcase, zipped it up, and shut the door behind him. Waltzing down the hall without a single suspicion, he went down the elevator and exited the lobby. He threw the luggage with the yellow pony inside into the back of a carriage and was off.
