Within the night in which the snow fell hardest. The cries of a small, freezing foal was drowned out by the wails and screams of wind that blew fiercely about the land. Everypony else rest within the warmth of their homes. The poor colt had cried and cried within the basket he lay. His eyes not even open, his hooves kicking the rushing winds, before he heard a strange “Knock” which seemed to lightly echo inside. He repeated his kicks then, before he then found himself too cold to even make one last wail, already, he felt death’s cold wings wrapping around his body. Just as he passed out, his body was immediately lifted from the basket he lay in, and was gently cradled as his body, and the figure, walked past the Castle doors.

When he woke, the colt wiggled and squirmed gently, but nuzzled into the gentle limbs that were wrapped around him. With his eyes still shut, he smiled warmly, hearing gentle hums and coo’s within his ear. The warm breath and the warm body he felt behind him allowed him to keep calm, and have no worries of where he was.

The wind still howled and whistled outside, but had apparently grew calmer as the night had ended. The sun rose, and the humming continued. When he finally opened his eyes, the first thing he had seen, was the gentle purple eyes, the four colors of hair, the long white horn, and lastly, the crown that rest atop her head that held the purple gemstone. He coo’d gently, reaching out for the shiny crown.

Just then, the mare shook her head. “No no, little one… “ She giggled at him, her voice gentle and sweet, the perfect sound to be that of a natural mother.

The colt simply heeded her words, and stopped reaching for her crown.

“I think I might just keep you, young one… “ she said in that same motherly tone. But soon, someone was knocking upon the door. “Yes?” she called, placing the colt into the basket that he was in before, and set him under the bed, and whispered to him just before getting up to get to the door. “Don’t make a noise, please… I promise I won’t be long.” She said apologetically, before leaving.
It was then, that the colt had realized he was going to be her foal, but a secret, as well. He closed his eyes then, and had rested, as any foal should. He dreamed happily, recollecting the memory of the warmth she had given him.

After a few hours, she came back with a bottle of milk for him. “I’m back. “ She sang lightly to him, being quiet so as the guards did not hear her. He drank happily, looking into those gentle eyes, knowing he was there to stay.

This routine would continue every single day as the colt grew. He was not given a name, until about one year later, when he had found himself reading books, using the glow of his own horn to read the pages about Princess Luna, or in other words, Mare on the Moon. He had become rather fascinated, it seemed, though he had never seen the mare… Surely he would have seen her, if her and Princess Celestia were sisters?
“I see you like those books?” She smiled gently. “I think I will call you… Lunar Elest Lux. “ As she trotted to him, giggling as he was really only looking at the pictures.

He gave out small giggles, and nodded his head, enjoying the name he was finally given.

Celestia soon picked up the book he was looking at, and soon began to read to him the tales of Princess Luna and herself. And every time she read to him, he became more and became more and more interested about them. He wanted to learn how the sun and the moon could be raised. How dreams could be protected and even destroyed… How his aunt had been banished. And so, little Lunar became curious. But he knew that he could not read yet, much less talk, which that would change, exactly on hearthwarmth.
Celestia had woken rather early due to Lunar nudging into her. “What is it, dear Lunar?” She asked, watching him with a tired smile.
Soon, his young voice was heard, echoing around the walls of the room. “Mmmm…. Mmmmm…. Mmmomma..” he said proudly, and then, Celestia had given him a tight embrace, joyful tears running down her face.
“That’s right, Lunar.. “ She said with obvious joy. “That’s who I am. “ She hugged him tight for a good five minutes, before cradling him.
He had repeated that word so many times. Planting it into his head.

Years had passed, and he had begun actually reading for himself, and fluent words began escaping his mouth. His intelligence grew, as did Celestia’s wish to teach him more. And so began his advanced studies of magic.

By the time Lunar had learned just about all he could, the exact day of Princesses exile was at an end. Although, Lunar did not know this, he treated the very day like a normal one. He watched as Celestia had dressed for the occasion, exchanged goodbyes, and went then to his studies. Even though he knew all the magic, he knew that he needed practice to improve his spells.

That night, Lunar had found himself within his dreams, though, they were much different than what they had been before. He stood before everyone, everyone that was royalty. Everyone within the castle. Even Princess Celestia… And then a face that he could only recall seeing within books and stories.

Every single one of them, save for that familiar stranger, advanced toward him. He turned to look around them, trying to find a way to escape this awkward predicament. He soon had an idea, and he frantically bowed, splaying his upper hooves out in front of himself, before his horn gave a flash of white light, before all was dark…

Next he woke, Lunar was staring up at the two sisters, in a strange new place.
“Sister… Tia… Why dost thou keep a colt, and give knowledge to it?!” Princess Luna said with a rather scared expression.
“Luna… He was in need of care… I could not have let that colt freeze…”

This made Luna sigh, bowing her head, she shook her head. “Tia… Thou must recall that any foal set at our steps must be taken to an orphanage, no matter the condition…”
“I know… But how can we undo what I've done?”

Lunar then blinked at what was said. He slowly stood himself up, wincing as if he hadn’t used his legs for several days. Upon his movement, the sisters took notice, and looked down upon him as they whispered for a moment more.
“Lunar… I must apologize for what we must do… Please forgive us…” Celestia said, breaking the whispers. Then both sisters began to charge their magic, and in response, Lunar charged his.
Brief seconds came by, before the sisters both sent a beam of light that joined together before hitting the shield that he had created. But their magic being far stronger, especially combined, than his own, a bright flash flooded the room, and all was silent.
When the light became normal, the sisters were looking down at the resting colt. Celestia’s expression showed sorrow and pain.
“This child shall never age… The memory of the magic he’s learned is far too difficult even for us, to make him forget.” Luna said, grimly. “He shall not see, either… In the case of finding his own mother, once again…”
Both the sisters knew that the poor child was now blind, and to live forever young. Not even the most complex spell, would heal his blindness, nor his age… But what Luna did not realize, was that Celestia had given him the ability to slowly regain the magic he had previously learned. When he finally awoke, he was in a brand new world of adventure.
