The Stranger - Chapter Two

When Lunar finally awoke, he groaned, shaking his head as he stood on his hooves, his eyes slowly blank open before he shuddered... Already, the now blind colt felt a chilling presence near him. "Wh- who's there?" He demanded, although the hint of fear was hardly even a hint, as it was obvious he was afraid of what he couldn't see.

"What's with this kid? Is he daft?" A voice said, very childlike, as Lunar's own.

"W- whah?" Lunar asked, offended by the words that seemed to be directed at him.

"He is! He can't even see anything right in front of him!" Another colt had announced, and then suddenly sheer laughter erupted all around him as if he was in a playground or some place that was filled with ponies. "He's just a foal that can't even walk two hooves in front of him without falling over just to cry!" The cries of laughter intensified.

"No! Y- you're wrong! You're all wrong!" Lunar cried defensively, although he knew he was far too weak compared to the rest to truly prove to them that he was just like them. "Y- You're all wrong... " He muttered, his body curling up into a ball, as the other colts and fillies made a tighter circle around him, jeering and laughing loudly at his crutch. It was if all of them felt so accomplished at finding such a lower power than themselves that they could defeat with ease. That they could dominate such a poor foal, with little to no boundaries to stop them. It only took a few seconds, though to him it felt like centuries passed, before the group slowly disbanded, leaving the poor colt curled onto his side.

"What a waste." A filly now sneered, before her hooves, too, trotted away from his defenseless body. She rejoined her little group, where he heard her giggle and laugh right before she was cut off by the slam of a door.

Lunar lay for a few hours, just crying and trying to think of what he could do. Could he run away? Could he possibly find a way to get them all to apologize to him? Treat him just like they do each other? He felt so lost. So, departed. He shortly heard larger hooves trotting on the ground, going straight for him, which made Lunar curl even tighter, trying to make himself smaller or even invisible. He gave some sniffles, trying to keep his little shivering body out of the other's sight, praying that this pony wouldn't abuse him like the others had. Then, he heard the stallion chuckle, which grew to a deep laugh before the stallion grew quiet for a moment longer before speaking.

"You know those children are right. You know you are a defenseless foal that will never survive the outside world. You've been hidden from it for so long. You've been isolated. And now look at you. You're nothing but a pitiful ball of tears and loneliness. Now, why don't you show your hate to them?" The stallion said quizzically.

"N- no... No, no... I- I'm not... " And then Lunar paused, his eyes slowly poking out into view, searching for the stallion who had suddenly seemed to disappear. "H- hate...? W- what do you m- " And then doors seemed as if they broke open, colts and fillies laughing and squealing as they ran out, only to find Lunar once more, to resume their teasing.

"Hey, look! The dumb one's still here!" some colts said in sync, which made them all giggle at what they had said at once. "He's so stupid! He doesn't even know how to stand up, he's been here all day!" One exclaimed, the other's around Lunar all laughed before they prodded at his body and face, and his hooves as well. "He'll never be a stallion. He'll never be like us. " Another said, even darker than the rest, although everyone agreed.

"Th- that's not true... Y- You're wrong!" Lunar repeated from last time, but he felt so insecure, that he heard his own voice as only a minor mumble.

"Don't listen to them. " Someone said, it was unfamiliar to him, yet, at the same time it was. It was also apparent that no one else heard it, as he could still hear the others laughing and giggling, and making even more fun of him. "Listen to my words, Lunar." The words echoed in his mind now, ringing as if a bell, yet they were soft and calming, hypnotizing even. "Ignore the lies he tells you. Listen to me, and only me, Lunar. You are worth more than what he says you are. You are worth more than a thousand stars in the sky."

It made Lunar shiver, hearing those calm words repeat themselves over and over in his mind. But the voices that were around him faded, until he finally heard them all trot away.

"You are my little warrior. You are my child... " The voice resumed. "I can't tell you how much it hurts to tell you how much I love you-"

"Wh- who are you?" Lunar interrupted. His tears now dry, feeling a harsh wind beat at his flank.

"Do not interfere! " Another voice boomed, making Lunar cover his head once more, shivering and whimpering, hoping for it all to go away. "This child is mine!" The stranger yelled with another boom that shook the ground.

"P- please s- stop!" He cried.

"I only stop for those that are worth my time, not for colts that are weak and pitiful. " The stranger coldly replied.

"Lunar, don't listen to him. " That calming voice said. "I will help you through this." It reassured him.

Suddenly though, Lunar felt everything around him, disappear. Everything grew quiet. He couldn't even think, not even tell himself that everything was alright. After a few moments, a rumble climbed through the empty air. A deep growl erupting around where Lunar lay, shaking him even more. And then once again, silence for another few moments.

"Do not listen to his lies. He can not win. " The words echoed in his head.

He whimpered, shaking his head as he sobbed quietly. "B- but he's r- right... I- I'm a f- failure... "

"But you're not a failure, Lunar. You are a success. You are you. You are strong enough to fight him."

Lunar continued shaking his head, defeated and trembling as he could hardly listen to the voice in his head. "N- No... I'm not... "

"You have to fight it! You can't just give up!" He found himself thinking out loud now. If others were near, they could think him crazy, but there wasn't. "Don't let them get to you!" He shuddered, slowly standing up, although as if a foal, standing up for its first time he swayed, his hooves going left and right, trying to catch himself.

"Lunar... I want to tell you how much I love-"

And then the voice was drowned out by a furious roar. Lunar felt himself falling back onto the ground, on his flank, his front hooves on his horn as there came a sudden pain which followed weakness. His back hooves kicked about, trying to defend himself from behind.

"You're pathetic. You're worthless. You're nothing but a child... What makes you think you could take on a King?" And a deep laugh echoed and then loomed for a minute. "You wouldn't even be a worthy snack, but you deserve so much to be devoured. You deserve to feel every single bone be crushed by my teeth."

Lunar shook his head, the colt crying loudly, though grew faint, before he was silent. He seemed to be in a state of unconsciousness. A flash of colors suddenly appeared, where he saw a pure white light in the distance, turning he saw a dark, old wooden door that seemed as if it were made of pure evil... He stared at the door, and then to the light again, and then down at his hooves, confused at how his blindness was cured. But he slowly made his way towards the welcoming light, glancing back at the door, he saw a dark fume tumbling out towards him, red eyes glaring back at him. This made Lunar go to a normal walk, then a jog, and then to a sprint. He cried as he kept running. He ran until light was surrounding him completely.

He opened his eyes, mumbling for a moment, seeing nothing. He squirmed in the place he lay, turning over then to find grass rustling beneath his hooves. He poked around for a few minutes, listening around for anyone nearby. "H- H- Hello?" Nothing. He flinched, expecting something to grab his hooves, or expected the laughter, the voices even. But nothing. He only shivered then, standing straight, hearing a few exclamations nearby after a while made him jump a couple meters from the ground making him stumble to regain his balance. He took a deep breath, sighed, and took a few steps toward the commotion. But he felt he shouldn't even do that, as if it were his duty to stay away from everyone for now, to keep from being in that very mess again... So he turned, and ran. He was unaware of where he would end up, but he hoped he would be some place safe and away from any harm.

Lunar was running for some time now. He was quite startled, when he had placed a couple of his hooves into some buckets of round objects that were placed on the ground... He squeaked, trying his best to get them off as he kept running, but shortly found himself within a large pile of buckets that were previously filled with apples which now rolled around, or sat underneath him which made him very uncomfortable. The racket that was made scared Lunar so much that he began to cry... Getting out of the mess as fast he could, getting hay and freshly squashed pieces of apple and juice onto him in the process. He moved then to find some place to hide, or escape the area, which he finally found the exit, or he thought at least, and agreed when he felt leaves and grass on his hooves once more.

It took him about an hour, before he found what felt like a large boulder. He poked at it for a while, just to confirm, before he climbed on top of the massive object, and lay there to rest, exhausted and in need of a good afternoon nap.
