Author's Note
I just have to say, this story take place AFTER season 4 (except the prologue), and since it's written before (and maybe burring) season 5 of MLP: FiM, the story will not be like it's in season 5!This means that Twilight has just become a princess and has her own kingdom. Just keep that in mind. And IF this story is being written burring season 5, I MIGHT put things from it into the story. This story will otherwise go the way I want it to go. But suggestions and criticism is of course welcome, and I'll take it all into consideration!
Prologue
Prologue
The icy wind roared loudly like a raging beast throughout the frozen wastelands. It ran through the landscape like a wild horse. It was so cold, it would send a shiver down the spine of every living creature it touched. But there was not a single trace of any form of life in the frozen desert landscape. The temperature was so far below zero, that if anything living stayed there for too long, it would freeze to death within short time. But not far from this hellish frozen landscape, was a kingdom which was filled with life. This kingdom went by the name: The Crystal Empire. It was called the Crystal Empire because of it's enormous amount of crystals. Everything in this kingdom was made out of crystal. The streets, the houses, the mighty tower-like castle towering high into the sky, even the ponies inhabited there were made out of the purest crystal.
But even though this kingdom sounds like heaven on Earth, it had a dark history. For over a millenium ago, there was a unicorn with the name Sombra. He was just like any unicorn at the time. But the one thing that sat him apart from the others, was his skill in Black Magic. Little did the crystal ponies know why he had come to The Crystal Empire. But when they found out, it was far too late. Sombra had killed the ruler of The Crystal Empire at that time, Princess Amore, and taken the throne, crowning himself king. Now going by the name King Sombra, he enslaved the crystal ponies and made them work as slaves in the crystal mines, with the sole purpose to satisfy his greed for crystals. He also used his black magic to corrupt the Crystal Heart, the source of power to The Crystal Empire. This caused the crystal covered landscape to turn into a desert like land, losing it's world known beauty. But the landscape was not the only thing that changed appearance. The crystal that once had made the mighty tower-like castle in the centre of the Crystal Empire, had been transformed into Obsidian, a rock formed as a result of cooled lava.
King Sombra's cruel actions in The Crystal Empire did however not go unnoticed. The neighbor kingdom Equestria, ruled by the alicorn sisters Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, got word of his actions and sent the alicorn princesses to The Crystal Empire to confront King Sombra. There they fought bravely against the tyrant king. The battle lasted for many hours. Even if Sombra was highly skilled within Black Magic, it was the alicorn sisters that emerged victorious in the end. But the victory was an empty one, for King Sombra had put a curse on the Crystal Empire which made it vanish into thin air with him. Grieving over the loss of the neighbor kingdom, the alicorn sister returned to Equestria, continuing their lives.
When the Empire returned, a thousand years later, so did Sombra, who immediately attempted to retake it. Not willing to lose the kingdom again, the alicorn sisters sent the bearers of the Elements of Harmony to battle Sombra, resulting in his second defeat and the transformation of the Crystal Empire back it's former glory. Thinking that he was gone for good this time, Princess Celestia assigned Princess Cadance and her husband, Shining Armor, to rule over the Crystal Empire.
Living in peace, both the ponies in Equestria and the Crystal Empire was unaware of what was going on in the frozen wastelands between the kingdoms.
