Chapter 1
It has been about 2 weeks since Rainbow Dash had set hoove on ground. Since Pinkie's funeral she had not even been outside her house. She was too depressed to do anything anymore. Hardly anypony visited her. They all had thier own things they had to deal with. Also, since Pinkie died, business for Sugarcube Corner has been scarce. Rainbow hasn't been to Sugarcube Corner since the "incident." Rainbow hated herself for what she had done. She hated thinking about it too. When it would come up in her head she would curl up into a ball and sob. And for the past two weeks, that happened daily. She wished every night that she would be able to see Pinkie's smile light up the world once more. Though she thought that wish would never come true. She never thought that one day she would be looking into the pink mare's eyes once more. But it just so happened that one day, she would.
It was a beautiful Saturday. The sun was up high in the sky. The birds were flying around and chirping cheerfully. It would be a great day for flying. But Rainbow didn't want to fly. Just to think of the sun made her heart ache. It reminded her of Pinkie's warm smile. And Pinkie was the last thing Rainbow wanted to think of. The multicolored mare was lying on her bed. Curled up into a ball, her eyes squeezed shut, facing another session of heart ache. Then her stomach growled. Rainbow had not eaten since Twilight came over with a fresh batch of cookies. They shared the cookies while sipping tea and talking about the Wonderbolts. Twilight was the only pony of the 4 that did not fear Rainbow. Twilight knew very well it was an accident and that Rainbow Dash had just done it to defend herself. Remembering that day made Rainbow even more hungry. She wanted to go ask Twilight for some more cookies but she was..........afraid. Not of Twilight of course but of the.......ground. Another session of pain filled Rainbow's heart, just thinking of the ground reminded Rainbow that Pinkie was an earth pony. But Rainbow's stomach growled again and by the way it sounded, it meant business.
The cyan pegasus slowly climbed off her bed and landed on all fours on the ground. She dragged herself to the door. She sat there, staring at the doorknob. Was she really ready to go outside for the first time in weeks? Her stomach growled once more. That was a yes. She slowly turned the doorknob and slowly opened the door. She peeked outside a squinted. The light of the sun was very bright on Rainbow's eyes. She trotted outside and slowly closed her door. She took a deep breath. She was ready to head for the ground.
She jumped off the edge of the cloud. Only then did she realize that she had not used her wings in weeks. She had almost forgotten how to use them. She franticly flapped them up and down but they just didn't catch the wind. She was doomed. Rainbow shrieked as she plummeted to the ground. She then took a deep breath and tried one last time. She stuck her wings out and let them catch the air. And when they did she flapped once and curved, sending her into the sky right before she hit the ground. She flew up, up, up until she could feel the sun's rays hot on her wings. She then flapped hard sending her rocketing through the air. She preformed a hand full of stunts to test out her wings before deciding to land. She slowed down as she got closer to the ground. She tried to land gracefully but since she hadn't used her wings in so long she landed on her face instead.
"Owwwww." she groaned then stood up again.
She walked towards Twilight's house. It sure felt weird to walk on ground. It felt so much different up in the clouds.
When Rainbow got to Twilight's house she knocked on the door. She heard some rustling around and then the door opened. It was Spike. He screamed then slammed the door shut. From inside Rainbow could hear Spike screaming,
"There's a killer at our door Twilight! A killer!"
The rainbow pegasus's heart sunk. A killer, a killer, a killer. The words repeated over and over in her head. She was, indeed, a killer. She hung her head and sighed. Then she heard another familiar voice. It was Twilight's.
"A killer?! Spike, this better not be a joke!"
"It's not! She's out there waiting....."
Twilight slowly opened the door a crack and peeped at Rainbow.
"Oh thank goodness. It's just you." she turned to Spike. "Go to your room. That was very inappropriate and rude. Apoligize to Rainbow Dash then head off to your room."
"But she is a killer! She killed Pinkie Pie! And you know it!"
Spike! Apoligize! NOW!"
Spike twiddled his thumbs a moment before looking at Rainbow.
"Sorry that your a killer."
Twilight lost it. "That's it! To your room! NOW SPIKE!"
"But-"
"NOW!
Spike turned and went to his room. He slammed the door, causing the cyan pegasus to jump. Twilight grew red from embarrasment.
"I'm so sorry. I have no clue what his problem is! He has never done anything like that before! Then again, he didn't take a nap today...."
Rainbow smiled. "It's fine. He's right. I did......kill......Pinkie Pie."
"Yes but......you didn't mean to! I mean, you did it self defense."
Tears formed in Rainbow's eyes. SHe blinked causing one to roll down her cheek. Twilight looked at the ground.
"Look I'm really sorry about Spike."
Rainbow Dash lifted her hoove, telling the purple unicorn she needed to stop.
"Listen. It's fine."
Twilight decided to change the subject. "So, what did you come here for?"
"I was hungry so I decided to come here so we could grab a bite of something together."
Twilight's smile grew larger. "Of course! Of course! What would you like to eat? I'm not much of a master at cooking so maybe we could go to Sugarcube Corner and-" She looked at Rainbow Dash who was crying.
"Oh. I'm sorry. We can just stay here and eat."
Rainbow looked at Twilight and wiped her eyes. "No. I'm fine. I just don't feel in the mood to go to..........Sugarcube Corner."
Twilight smiled. "Maybe I can bake cookies again! You wanna help me?"
Rainbow smiled. She hadn't helped bake anything since.......the "incident".
Twilight trotted into her kitchen. Rainbow heard a few cabnet doors open, then close. Twilight came back witht a worried look on her face.
"Seems I'm all out of tea." She frowned. "Darn, I was really looking forward to drinking some tea."
Rainbow frowned but her face lit up again as she had an idea.
"Rarity is a fancy pony! I'm absolutley sure has some fancy tea stashed somewhere in her house. Maybe we can ask if she can share enough for two ponies to enjoy."
Twilight smiled. "I cannot believe I didn't think of that! I will head over right now! You can stay here if you want. But since I'm out, Spike might come out of his room and taunt you." She frowned again.
"Don't worry. I'll just ignore the little brat." Rainbow smiled.
Twilight's face brightened and she dashed out the door. The cyan mare looked around. There had to be something she could do. She looked at the book shelves.
Of course. I'm in a library. I can just read until Twi comes back. she thought.
But there were so many books. Which one would she choose? After looking around for a bit she spotted an old dusty book hidden at the back of one of the shelves. Rainbow reached out and carefully grabbed it. She blew off the dust. The name on the cover was worn. She couldn't make out what it said. She turned to the first page. She read the title.
Bringing Loved Ones Back From The Grave: A How-To Guide
Rainbow stood there for a moment. Her first thought was of Pinkie Pie. She flipped through the pages eagerly. She stopped on the one with a picture of a pony rising up out of the ground. She flipped a few more and stopped on a picture of two ponies hugging. She flipped to the last page. It had a warning on it. It read,
Warning:
If you are to bring back one from the dead beware, for he/she may be upset that you have awaken them. If they are upset, return them to the grave as soon as possible. For if you do not, prepare for harsh consequences.
The door opened and the rainbow mare jumped and dropped the book.
Twilight smiled adn trotted up to Rainbow. "Just so happens Rarity had just the right amount left for us!" Twilight looked at the old dusty book on the floor. "Watcha got there?"
Rainbow's cheeks grew red. "Oh nothing! Just an old book I found on one of these old shelves."
Twilight picked up the book and read the title. "Bringing Loved Ones Back From The Grave: A How-To Guide."
Twilight looked up at Rainbow. Rainbow's cheeks grew a deeper shade of red.
"You don't want to bring Pinkie back.........do you?"
Rainbow looked down at her hooves. "Well, maybe just for a little."
There was silence. Niether of the ponies wanted to say a word. A minute of silence had gone by. The it was two. Then three. Twilight was the one who broke the silence.
"I understand that you want Pinkie back but.........it's really dangerous. I have never even seen this book before. It must have been here when I moved in. I just.......I just don't know."
Rainbow gave a weak smile. "It's ok. We still have cookies to eat and tea to sip. It's not like I had any chance to seeing Pinkie's face ever again anyhow." The pegasus's face fell and she sighed.
Twilight was a reasonable pony. She really did want to bring Pinkie back from the grave to make her friend happy again. But the truth was, she had never even thought about atempting something like that before. She had no practice in it. What if something were to go wrong? She knew nothing about rising ponies back from the dead, or putting them back. But she was a reasonable pony and she knew darn well there had to be a few books more about this stuff. So she decided to agree with it. She would be the only unicorn to have ever bring a pony back from the grave! How awesome would that be? She looked at Rainbow Dash once more, who had tears in her eyes and a few tears rolling down her cheeks.
"If you really want to do this, I guess I have no choice but to go along with it."
Rainbow lifted her head and smiled.
Twilight smiled too. "If you want Pinkie back, so be it."
