Bringing Pinkie Back

Chapter 2

"Rainbow Dash! Can you please sit still? I'm trying to refresh my memory on how to wake the dead here!" Twilight glared at the rainbow maned mare who was squirming about.

It was very dark out. The moon and stars provided the only light there was. Twilight squinted in the dark, trying her best to carefully skim the steps on how to bring back the dead. Rainbow couldn't help but wiggle about. She was so excited! She couldn't wait until she got to look in the bright blue eyes of her pink friend once again. Twilight looked up from her book.

"Ok," Twilight said as she scratched her head making sure she had all of the steps memorized. "I think it's time we wake Pinkie up from her uhh........sleep."

Rainbow almost screamed. She was very much ready for her friend's return. She ran over to Twilight with a large smile on her face.

"What do you need me to do?" Rainbow smiled bigger. She was ready for anything Twilight could possibly need her for.

Twilight thought for a moment. "I think I'm going to need you to dig Pinkie up while I study the steps and spells one last time."

Rainbow saluted her purple friend and dove for the shovel. She tore through the dirt and grass, eager for her friend to return. Twilight heard the shovel hit the coffin and looked up.

"Great," she said turning her gaze toward Rainbow. "now I need you to get her coffin out of the ground."

The cyan pegasus saluted Twilight again an almost ripped the coffin out of the dirt.

"Easy! Easy! Don't be so rough! We don't want to break it!" Twilight shook her head and murmured something under her breath.

Rainbow gently put the coffin onto the ground. "Sorry. Im just so excited!"

"I understand Rainbow, but if we need to return her back to her slumber, we will need the coffin she was originally placed in. That's one of the rules."

Rainbow frowned. She didn't want to ever return Pinkie. She wanted Pinkie to stay forever. Twilight didn't notice. She looked back down at her books.

"Ok," Twilight looked at the coffin, then at Rainbow, then at her books again. "you will need to open the coffin now. Please do not panic but Pinkie may not look like she used to. She may have rotted and/or decayed a little."

Rainbow nodded. She already knew this.  She quickly opened the coffin and peeped inside. Pinkie didn't change much. In fact, she hardly changed at all. Rainbow could only see one difference in Pinkie. She looked very unhealthy. Rainbow reached down and gently touched Pinkie's forehead. It was ice cold. She touched Pinkie's cheek and her hoove pushed through her skin, letting thousands of maggot's fall out of her cheek. Rainbow fell back and almost threw up. Twilight looked away. She too, felt slightly sick at the sight of that.

"Ok," Twilight said taking a deep breath. "I think it's time to bring her back."

"I don't want her walking around ponyville with maggots falling out of her cheek." Rainbow looked at Pinkie again and gagged.

"Don't worry, one of my books said that she will return back to normal when she has awaken."

Rainbow was still looking away. "Just bring her back." she said while trying not to think of the maggots.

Twilight quickly said the spell. A zap of purple hit Pinkie and her body glowed for a moment, and then went dull again.

Rainbow glanced at the coffin. "Nothing happened."

Twilight looked down at her books, then back up at Rainbow. "It said in one of my books that she will awake at midnight."

Rainbow groaned. "I have to wait till midnight?"

Twilight nodded. "Yes, but don't worry. It's just 1 and a half hours from now."

Rainbow groaned again. "What are we going to do until then?"

Twilight scratched her head. "Well, according to the rules, we have to close the coffin and put her back in the hole."

"Do we have to cover her with dirt too?"

The purple unicorn shook her head. "No. We just have to close the coffin and put her back in the hole. It says not to cover her back up."

Rainbow glanced back at the coffin. "I'm not going to put the lid back on there. I don't want to look at her face again. It makes my skin crawl to see those maggots crawling around inside of her." Rainbow shuddered.

Twilight thought for a moment and then her face lit up. "I know! I can just use magic to levitate the lid and put it back."

Twilight took a deep breath. Suddenly, the coffin lid was covered with a purple, sparkling coat. And then it was lifted into the air and dropped neatly onto the coffin.

Twilight smiled. "Done! Now your turn. Please place the coffin CAREFULLY into the hole."

Rainbow slauted her friend and gently picked up the coffin. Then she carefully placed it into the hole.

Rainbow looked at Twilight. "Why can't we cover her up? Don't you think that's the smartest thing to do?"

Twilight looked back down at her books. "It says here we can't cover her completely because then she won't be able to get out. She can't die again, but she can go mentaly insane being stuck in a coffin down there."

Rainbow nodded. She understood why. She wouldn't want to be locked in a coffin forever. Especially if she couldn't kill herself. She thought about all the fun stuff her and Pinkie were going to do together. They could go pranking other ponies again and Pinkie could bake Rainbow and herself her famous cupcakes. Rainbow was completely over the whole cupcakes thing now. She didn't have the nightmares anymore. And she didn't feel in danger anymore either. She went back to the normal old Rainbow Dash. Except the fact she was always crying and hurting in the inside. But that would be all over. As soon as midnight struck, she would be back to normal. She glanced at the coffin, then looked at Twilight.

"How much longer?" She wished the unicorn would say 'any minute now' but, she didn't.

Twilight glanced at the watch she was wearing and yawned. "Just about an hour from now. It's only 11:03pm."

Rainbow sighed. She wanted Pinkie now. And to make matters worse, she was awfully tired. Rainbow yawned. She was falling asleep just sitting there. She glanced at the purple unicorn. She was asleep, her head lying on her books. Rainbow chuckled. Of course Twilight would have fallen asleep reading. It's her favorite thing to do. That reminded Rainbow of her favorite thing. Flying. It always woke her up and made hher have an alive feeling. She zoomed into the air and flew at the fastest of speeds. She did lots of tricks too. Then she landed gracefully on the ground. She yawned again. It didn't work. She gave up. She trotted over to Twilight and shook her. Twilight sleepily lifted her head and blinked a few times.

"W-what?" she blinked a few more times. "Rainbow? Where am I?"

The rainbow pegasus yawned. "Your in a graveyard. We were bringing Pinkie back. Remember?"

Twilight nodded. "Yeah. I remember. I must have fallen asleep I guess." Twilight looked at her watch. "It's 11:35pm. I'm going home and going to bed."

Twilight started putting all of her books back into the wagon she brought.

Rainbow yawned and started helping her purple maned friend. "I'm going home too. I need to find something to keep me awake."

When all the books were put in the wagon Twilight took a deep breath and the wagon's handle was coated in a purple cover. Twilight trotted to her house, the wagon fllowing close behind.

"Bye Rainbow! See you tomorrow!" Twilight smiled and waved a hoof then kept on trotting to her house.

Rainbow waved a hoof also. "Goodbye Twi!"

Rainbow zoomed into the air and zoomed straight home. When she got home she trotted right into the kitchen and fixed herself 3 cups of coffee. She quickly drank it all. She wanted to stay up to witness her pink friend's arrival. It made her shiver with excitment just to think of her being back and alive. She glanced at a clock hanging on her wall. It would be just 3 minutes before Pinkie comes back. Rainbow gasped. She needed to ask Twilight where Pinkie would go after she wakes up! Rainbow dashed out of her house and zoomed straight to Twilight's house and then banged on Twilight's door.

"Twilight! I need to ask you something! Please come out!" Rainbow continued to bang on the door.

Twilight opened the door. "Rainbow? What are you doing?"

"I need to know where Pinkie will go when she awakens! Will she stay in the graveyard? I need to be where she goes! And hurry because we only have about one minute!"

Twilight thought for a moment, then responded. "Uhh.....I recall in one of my books it said she would most likely head to her house once she-"

But before Twilight could say anymore, Rainbow zoomed off. Twilight sighed and went back into her house. Meanwhile, Rainbow was at Pinkie's house waiting. She glanced at the clock. Only 30 more seconds before her friend was to wake up. She couldn't believe it. She was actually going to have Pinkie back! She watched the clock and counted down the seconds.

"10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1......"

Rainbow waited but nothing happened.

Where's Pinkie? she thought. Isn't she supposed to wake up and come home?

Rainbow sighed. She decided that the spell didn't work and Pinkie wouldn't come back. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Rainbow sighed sadly.

It's probably just Twilight, coming to see if the spell had worked. she thought.

The knocking filled the empty house for the second time. Rainbow sadly trotted over and opened the door. She looked into the beautiful blue eyes of the pony standing there. It wasn't Twilight.
