The Return of the Pegasus Device
All's Well That Ends Well
Flap, flap, flap. With the beautiful sound of the purple maned mares orange wings flapping against her orange body, Scootaloo felt free from everything. Just then a laser shot right by her muzzle and her mind went back to her objective of catching the thief unicorn bellow her. Suddenly she stopped her wings for three seconds and opened them back up again just in time to ram her hoof into the back of the criminals head. The thief fell over onto her face and dropped the stolen Elements of Harmony. Scootaloo immediately did a 180 barrel roll mixed with half of a loop-the-loop, snatched the Elements, and sped off to hide them. Just as she got back, the thief got up, teleported right to her face, and punched Scoots jaw. Scootaloo went flying backwards few feet, backward and downward, before recovering. Her jaw was in excruciating pain, her lip was bleeding badly, and she had a few broken teeth, but none of that mattered, all that mattered was that this unicorn was brought to justice.
Scoots plunged herself at the mare and straight up again, giving her an extremely powerful upper-cut. The orange mare landed softly, performed a roundhouse kick, jabbed the unicorn in her jaw, blood came gushing out of that, and she jabbed her again, but this time in her muzzle, flapped her wings a couple of times, and kicked the side of the unicorns face with as much force as she could muster. After that the criminal was out cold. Scoots hoof-cuffed her and waited for backup to come and take her to jail. When the backup left Scoots went and got the Elements of Harmony, and returned them to the Tree of Harmony, where they belonged. As she left she remembered all of the good memories she had made here in her old hometown of Ponyville and wondered how Sweetie Belle and Apple bloom were doing.
When she got back to the castle, she immediately reported her success to Princess Celestia. The Princess had something to tell Scootaloo too.
“Lieutenant, it is good to hear of another success, but I have another mission for you.” Said a very serious Princess Celestia. Princess Celestia had been princess for long time, she also had the ability and responsibility of raising and lowering the sun. She was very tall with a beautiful white coat, and even more beautiful dull rainbow colored mane that flowed in the air no matter what.
“Whatever the mission is you highness, I will always accept.” Said a highly enthusiastic Scootaloo.
“That is very good to hear. Have you heard of the rumors of the Rainbow Factory?” asked the princess with even more and still growing seriousness.
Scootaloo gulped extremely nervously, “The what?”
“There have been rumors going around about this factory still existing and we want you to investigate.” Came a voice from behind Scoots. It was Princess Luna, Celestia’s younger sister and co-ruler. Luna was smaller than her sister alicorn, in fact she was also completely different from her sister. Luna had a charcoal grey coat, with a beautiful straight blue mane, she also raised and lowered the moon. Together they brought peace and harmony throughout all of Equestria.
Although there was a period of time where Celestia ruled alone and raised and lowered the sun and moon. This being because Luna became jealous of her sister because everypony was happy and played in the daytime and slept through her lovely night. This jealousy for her sister turned into the dreaded Nightmare Moon.
“You want me to investigate… rumors?” asked an exceedingly nervous Scootaloo.
“We fear that these rumors might be true.” Said Luna.
“But… But those are false rumors! The Factory was destroyed! I watched them destroy it!” Proclaimed a no longer nervous, but now frightened Scoots.
“We know about your past experiences with the factory, that is why we are asking you to investigate this. Because of those experiences, you are the only with enough information about the factory. If these rumors are true, then you will be the only one with the knowledge to know how to defeat the Rainbow Factory.” Said Celestia, comforting Scootaloo with her wing.
As the older princess said this Scootaloo’s mind went racing with flashbacks of Orion, Aurora, and Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash! Her mind went to a perfect flashback of the final time she saw her. But this flashback was so vivid, that it didn’t even seem like a flash back.
Rainbow punching the chains that held Scootaloo above that awful machine. Every punch loosening the chains, Dash finally flying right into the chains, the chains breaking, both of them falling to the floor, Rainbow being sucked into machine by the chain, Scoots thinking that Dash was just joking, and the final scream of pain that marked the end of Rainbow Dash.
Scootaloo had always blamed herself for Rainbow’s death. ”It’s all my fault,” She always told herself, ”I could have saved her. Could have been the hero of my hero. But I just stood there like a fool. Like a fool, because… I am a fool.” She knew it wasn’t really her fault, but the guilt that she felt whenever she thought about it made her rethink that.
“We know how much this must hurt for you to be asked to do this, when we know how emotionally hurt you are after the incident there, but you are the only one capable of doing this.” Said Luna.
“Do you accept?” asked Celestia.
Scoots looked at her magnifying glass cutie mark. She thought about it. She thought about it for a long time. She looked at Luna, then at Celestia, the back at her cutie mark. Her mind buzzing, ears ringing, muzzle aching in pain from the hit to she took while fighting the thief that stole the Elements of Harmony. She was scared, but at the same time excited. Maybe if I do this I could prove to myself that Rainbow Dash’s death wasn’t my fault.” She thought to herself.
“What do I have to do?” She asked.
