Chapter 3

Your hooves in the holes of my sweater

I opened my eyes only to squint them suddenly 'man for once it's a sunny day' I said to myself as I slowly got out of bed, I didn't bother with making my bed today. I wandered into my bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror, I smiled at myself as I saw my hair was starting to get a little brighter. My prismatic hair looked like a paisley rainbow now instead of a dull grey rainbow, my eyes were also a paisley pink. My color was starting to come back, I still had a long ways to go before I was back to my normal self but I'm getting there. The rings under my eyes weren't as dark either, since I was starting to get more sleep, I walked out into the kitchen and ate a doughnut. Once I was done, I decided it was time to apologize to the rest of the girls today, and maybe try to talk to Big Mac. That's the part of my day I was worried about, I heard someone knocking on the door. 'Wonder who that could be?' I thought to myself as I opened the door and saw Derpy.

"Hey Rainbow Dash, I brought your mail" she smiled. I hugged her tightly.

"Oh Derpy I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I avoided all of you girls when you all have been there for me," I said as I started to tear up a little. Derpy smiled at me as she handed me my mail.

"I do understand Rainbow Dash, remember I am a single mother" she said as she turned to leave.

"Thanks Derpy" I sniffled as I waved goodbye to her. I put my mail on my table and flew off to Sugar-cube corner to talk to Pinkie Pie. I landed on the ground and trotted towards the door of Sugar-cube corner. I opened the door expecting to see the Cakes and instead seeing Pinkie Pie. I smiled "Pinkie Pie just the lady I wanted to see today," I said trotting over to the counter.

Oh, hiya Rainbow" she smiled at me as she finished putting away newly baked cupcakes and cookies. I smiled back at her as I sat on my haunches.

"So Pinkie, I wanted to apologize for being so withdrawn and not talking to you or the girls. Plus ignoring all your calls" I sighed, looking at my feet. I felt a hoof on my shoulder, I looked up to see Pinkie smiling at me.

"It's okay Rainbow I understand, Cheese Sandwich and I have gotten in fights before. Granted, you and Dumbbell aren't together anymore, but this is a learning experience," she smiled as she gave me a cupcake. I took it gratefully and munched on it while she finished baking. After I finished my cupcake I got up.

"Well Pinkie, I'm heading out to Sweet Apple Acres to go talk to Applejack and then maybe Big Mac. I don't know how it's going to go so wish me luck," I said sheepishly as I got to the door.

"Good luck Dashie" she squealed happily. I laughed to myself as I flew into the sky and headed towards Sweet Apple Acres. I started to fly a little fast and after a while I could smell apples, I smiled to myself. I haven't been here for Big Mac and I got into a fight and stopped talking, I guess it's a good think he wants to talk to me again. I looked around and saw Applejack by some of the Apple trees in the south field. I swooped down and landed sloppily. She turned around and smiled at me, I gave her a weak smile in return.

"Well howdy Rainbow what are ya up to t'day?" AppleJack asked, smiling as she bucked another tree. I smiled back at her as I sat down.

"Well, I wanted to tell you that I am sorry for the way I acted towards all of you girls. You all have been there for me and I just ignored all of you. All of your calls and everything. I'm a horrible friend," I said as I looked at the ground and kicked my hooves around in the dirt. I looked up to see Applejack smiling at me, I gave her another one in return.

"Well Rainbow you have been through a lot, I don't know what you've gone through, but I understand you wanting time alone. I just wish you would've told us that instead of ignoring us," she said as she took her bucket up apples and headed towards the barn. I followed quickly behind her.

"Thanks AJ I just felt horrible and I feel so much better after apologizing to all of you ladies, you girls are my best friends and if I even lost one of you I would be devastated" I said as I sat there and watched her put all the apples away, a few feet away I saw Big Mac pulling the plow. I was trying my hardest to not look at him. Applejack followed my gaze and smiled.

"Are you going to talk to him today? He told me he wasn't even sure you would listen to his voice mail," she said sitting down next to me. I sighed as I looked from Big Mac to Applejack.

"I don't know what to do AJ. Like I want to talk to him, but then again, I don't want to talk to him. I hurt him bad AJ and I haven't talked to him since" I sighed as I felt the sting of tears coming. I willed them back.

"Well Dash I would say right now take your time, you don't have to talk to my brother right at this moment in time. But don't forget about him either, I don't want him hurt anymore. You did hurt him bad, but I think he hurt you worse" She said as she got up and grabbed her bucket to continue bucking Apple trees. I followed her, I was trying to decide if today was the day that I wanted to talk to Big Mac. I deiced I wasn't going to.

"Well AJ I don't think I'm going to talk to him today, but I will another day. I just don't feel up to it today" I sighed. Applejack smiled and hugged me tightly.

"Well, like I said just don't forget about him," she said as she continued to buck Apple trees. I said goodbye to her and started to fly back to my house. I really hoped that once I did talk to Big Mac that he would want to be my friend again. I really, really miss him. The only other stallion I had been friends with was Thunderlane and I haven't seen him since my party for winning best young flyers competition. I landed towards Twilight's library, I was going to stop and talk to her but she seemed busy. I decided I was going to walk to my cloud house, while I was walking I wasn't paying attention and bumped into Thunderlane.

"Oh man I'm sorry Thunderlane" I said in a quiet voice. 'I would put Fluttershy's voice to shame' I thought to myself. I looked up to see Thunderlane smiling at me.

"It's okay Dashie, what's been going on with you lately. Everyone said you were distant with everyone," he said, walking with me to my house. I looked at the ground for a bit before I answered.

"Well Dumbbell dumped me and I haven't been the same since, he told me he loved me and then all of sudden he dumps me" I said as I started to walk slower. Thunderlane put his strong black feathered wing around me. I looked up at him as he nuzzled against my neck.

"I'm so sorry Dash, I wish I would've known. I'd have kicked his ass, he was a douche to you anyways. I just hope you let go of him eventually," he said to me as we stopped at my house. I sighed as I looked up at my house.

"Um, do you want to come inside, I haven't had anyone over for a while, not since Flitter a few days ago" I said smiling a little. Thunderlane nodded as we flew up and walked into my house, I had no idea what we were going to do so I decided on a movie.

"I love this movie" Thunderlane said as he wrapped us in a blanket, I wasn't used to this so I had no idea how to react. It's been a while since I've been around another guy. I started to relax a little when I felt Thunderlane's hooves on mine. I looked up at him and smiled. I could get used to that.

"I love this movie too" I smiled as I nuzzled against Thunderlane's chest, he didn't seem to mind. I could really get used to that. I wasn't really paying attention to the movie, I was paying more attention to Thunderlane. I don't think he minded too much. He smiled down at me and nuzzled his snout against my hair. I giggled a little as he did that.

"I haven't heard you laugh in quite some time" Thunderlane said to me as he stretched a bit, he wrapped his wings around me. I smiled to myself as I felt the feathers tickling me a little.

"I haven't heard myself laugh in a while either Thunder. It's kind of nice to just relax and watch a movie with a guy" I said as I relaxed and leaned into Thunderlane a little.

"I haven't actually hung out with you in a while, not since flight school that one summer with the Wonderbolts" he said as he pulled the blanket and his wings tighter around me. I sighed to myself, I really could get used to this, him being around and making me feel safe and warm and comfortable.

"Thunderlane I could get used to hanging out with you, maybe we could hang out for the next few days" I said as I snuggled into him.

"You know what Rainbow I would love to hang out with you for the next few days. Seems like you've needed someone around lately to make you feel better" Thunder said to me as he nuzzled his snout into my hair again. I couldn't help but smile to myself as we continued to watch the movie.

"That sounds amazing Thunder" I said as I slowly started to doze off, I was warm and comfortable. Not to mention I felt safe and secure wrapped in a blanket with Thunderlane. I closed my eyes and sighed as I relaxed, I felt Thunderlane lay down and I wrapped my arms around him and nuzzle into his chest. I looked at him and saw he was smiling at me. I couldn't help but smile to myself. I feel myself starting to feel happy, I looked at the screen of my tv, my eyes and my hair were starting to get brighter.

"This seems pretty amazing right now as well," he said as he started to doze off. I smiled as I closed my eyes. Yep, I could get used to this life
