Welcome to Ponyville
Chapter 2
Previous ChapterNext ChapterBullet Storm spent the next day wandering Ponyville, looking for any traveling merchants that would hire her. She spent hours searching for work, but none were found.
As the sun descended and the moon rose, she gave up and went back to the inn to drink the rest of the day away. Around twenty minutes after she arrived at the inn, Sky Berry and Volta appeared beside her again.
The pegasi turned to her left. "Hey! Its you again! How have you been?"
Bullet Storm gave a weak smile. "I've been doing okay." She said quietly. "What about you?"
"I'm doing really good!" Volta said happily as she lifted the bottle of alcohol she had just requested.
"Are you sure okay?" Sky Berry asked. "You seem a bit down."
She sighed. "I can't find a new job."
The pegasi laughed. "Pfft! Fuck work!"
"Well what do you think I should do then?"
She shrugged. "I dunno. Have fun."
Bullet Storm took a few gulps of her beverage and set it down on the counter. "What if I said I had fun doing my work?" She seemed a bit nervous.
Sky Berry looked at Bullet Storm's flank to see cross hairs were her cutiemark. "And what was your job previously...?" She asked.
"I was a gun for hire."
"You had fun shooting ponies?"
Bullet Storm cringed. "Well... a little bit, yes. But that's not just it. I had fun protecting caravans as well. It was thrilling."
Sky Berry remained silent. Volta was mumbling something to herself, occasionally taking a drink from her bottle, which was nearly empty at this point.
"I'm not evil. I was just doing my job. Its what I'm good at..."
"Don't worry about it." Sky Berry said in a cheery tone as she smiled. "I don't think of you any less differently."
"Thanks, Sky."
She moved closer and wrapped her hooves around Bullet Storm's body. She nuzzled against her chest lovingly. Bullet Storm's muscles tightened. A deep shade of red appeared on her cheeks.
"H-Hey there. Come on now. Settle down." She tried pushing Sky away gently, who went back to her stool after a few seconds.
Bullet Storm started to return to her drink when the thought occurred to her that there was the possibility that Sky Berry was just trying to get with her. She didn't know Sky's sexual preference, but she wasn't going to bother asking. That would just be weird.
Bullet Storm went both ways when it came to sexual preference, and she did have a bit of a crush on her new friend, but she didn't want to admit it.
Looking the other way, she sighed and muttered to herself. "Why do I have to push ponies away?" She was never very good with others, but then again, she's never been in a relationship... or at least, not a good one.
A few minutes passed and she looked back at her new pegasi friend. "So what is it that you do?"
"Sorry?"
"Your talent. What is it?"
"Oh." She smiled. "I can plant berries."
Bullet Storm looked at her in silence, trying her best not to laugh. "... Berries?"
"I can plant berries in the sky. Though I don't really do anything with my talent."
Bullet Storm examined the red neckerchief on Sky's neck. "So if I may ask, what's up with the cloth?"
Sky looked down and smiled. "My father gave it to me. He's a guitarist. I didn't get to see him much because he was usually on tour. But he's still a great father."
"What about your mother?"
"She's a salespony. She sells berries." She paused as Bullet Storm started to drink her alcoholic beverage. "So what about your parents?"
The white coated unicorn choked on her drink and released it back in the bottle. "My what?"
"Your parents."
"Uh... they weren't as nice as yours..."
"Oh... I'm sorry."
"Don't be. Its not your fault." She cleared her throat. "So, what's Volta's story?" She asked, trying to change the subject.
"Her? She was a singer but she didn't get much fame. Now she's just getting drunk."
Volta just passed out on the counter, releasing a slight snore from her muzzle.
Sky Berry looked over and chuckled. "Well, time to go. Gotta bring her back home. Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow."
"It was nice talking to you again, Sky." She held out her forehoof and the pegasi bumped it with her own.
After a few drinks, Bullet Storm went upstairs to her room to call it a night.
The following morning, she woke up with probably one of the worse hangovers she had ever felt. The sunlight beamed through her windows, blinding her sight and stabbing her brain. Every little sound was amplified. Birds sang in the trees, which was a huge problem for her at the moment.
She stumbled downstairs and bought some breakfast, which took the last of her money. This was the last day that she could stay here. She'd have to pay the innkeeper to stay another night. But that wasn't an option anymore. If she didn't find a merchant that would hire her as a bodyguard, then she'd be heading back on the long endless road empty handed.
She finished her breakfast and stepped outside. She needed to find some work. Maybe today she'd actually find somepony willing to hire her.
She started her search at the marketplace. There was nothing. She scouted the entire edge of town. No sign of traveling merchants. She went everywhere. But there were no job opportunities that would suit her.
After a while, the moon was back in the sky. This was it.
She went back to the inn, entered her soon to be expired room, and started packing up her stuff. She put her armor back on, which was relieving to get out of for the few days she had. The gun holster with the rifle rested on her back, as did the saddle bags.
She walked downstairs to see Sky Berry and Volta at the counter. She was never very good with goodbyes. Maybe it was just best to leave quietly without saying anything.
As she was stepping toward the door, Sky Berry turned around and waved happily. "Hey Bullet Storm! Over here!"
The armored unicorn froze and slowly turned toward her.
"Hey, what's up with all the gear?" She asked.
Bullet Storm stepped forward so that she was face to face with Sky Berry. "I ran out of money and this was my last day here. I have to move on."
She wrapped a hoof around the pegasi and started to walk away.
"Wait!"
Bullet Storm stopped at the door and sighed, looking down at the ground.
"Why don't you just stay with me and Volta?"
She looked back. "R-Really?"
"Sure! You can stay as long as you'd like!"
Bullet Storm cantered forward and hugged the pegasi as tightly as possible.
"Oh thank you so much Sky!"
"Its no problem, really!" She struggled to say. "But your kind of choking me."
Bullet Storm took a few steps back to give her some room.
Sky Berry looked at Volta. "Can you stay here? I'm gonna bring Bullet Storm to our house."
Volta raised a bottle she had in front oh her. "Sure thing-" She hiccuped. "Sky!"
"Don't pass out because I might not come back for a while."
Volta nodded happily.
The two ponies stepped outside and walked toward her house.
