Living Hell
Chapter 5 - Adjusting and Learning
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI woke to a huge pain in the stomach. I hadn't eaten in quite a long while, so I wasn't suprised. I walked out of Princess twilight's quarter's, making sure to not disturb the still sleeping purple princess, and wandered my way around the crystalline castle, internally wincing to my stomach, until I finally managed to find my way to the food court. Several ponies were actively working in the part of the kitchen I could see from the dining room, and watched as a servant walked out of the kitchen at the same moment I sat down.
"What will you have today, Princess Star?" Questioned the well dressed pony.
"I would enjoy some fries, an apple or two, and a drink. Do you have tea here?" I ordered, pondering what kind of choices they would have in a pony cafe.
"Yes, we do have tea here. anything else?" the waiter pushed lightly to assure I got everything I wanted.
"No, that will be all, thank you." I replied thankfully.
A few minutes later, the waiter pony came from the kitchen levitating a plate filled with a form of fries tat I had never seen before and two apples with a neatly centered tea cup behind them. As the waiter-pony gently levitated the platter down in front of me so as not to spill or drop anything, I began to poke at the fries with a hoof.
I finally picked up a fry with my muzzle ( I hadn't figured out how the hoof-holding worked yet) and took a good feel to the taste. Its taste was exactly like an extra greasy McDonalds fry, and as soon as I realised that, I jammed my muzzle into the frypile and shoved as many of them as I could, not allowing myself to savor in favor of hunger.
I finished the fries, and picked up one of the apples using both of my hooves. I bit into it, and I suddenly wasn't sure wether I was biting into an apple or drinking apple juice so fresh that it had just been made from a batch of apples that was just picked. I think it was a combination of both, from the way the juice almost dribbled out of my mouth before I could gulp it down past the apple chunk still in my mouth.
After vigorously devouring BOTH apples, I turned to the tea that I originally meant to wash down the rest of the food (of which happened by the apples instead), and, deciding I was still hungry enough to drink it without hesitation to catch my breath, I took a sip. It was the sweetest, most evenly mixed tea I had ever touched to my lips, easily beating McDonald's already deliciously sweet tea by a mile!
I was done with the tea before I had realized I had started, and took the tray to the disposal area with my mouth so one of the maids could wash everything. I left the food court, thinking slightly of home, missing my fingers and the freedom of my forelegs, until an insane idea hit me.
Twilight awoke to a desperate show of me attempting to balance on my hindhooves." What are you up to, Star?" she questioned, pondering over several reasons why a pony would do such a balancing act.
"I'm stretching my muscles and combining it with balance training," I said, not stopping my act, "maybe if I do it enough, I can learn to be bipedal as a pony!"
"I'm not sure you'll get very far with that, but good luck." Twilight said sheepishly.
"I'm geting pretty good at this, I feel like if I get my hind legs adjusted to move back farther and more easily, maybe I can do it," I explained factfully, pausing as I fell backwards, "well, I might have to design a hindhoof extension modeled after the Human foot's length, but that's all I'd really have to do for the stainding part."
twilight watched as I flipped myself back over and began another attempt. Curious, Twilight asked, "The 'standing part'?"
"Oh, right," I realized Twilight didn't know of my idea yet, " I am going to make a functional model of fingers that I can attach to my forehooves alongside the attempt to walk on my hindhooves alone so i can do daily activities as i would have before while I learn how to use my magic for levitation."
The idea of long jointed fingers on a pony gave Twilight a shiver, "Can we not remove the inhibitor during the day while you're consciously aware of the state of your mane and tail? You can figure out and learn magic faster, especially levitation magic." She brainstormed aloud.
Stopping my balance practice, I told her, "I like the idea. Where do we start?"
Twilight unstrapped the inhibitor, watching as my magical aura swooped back over my hair just as quickly as it had gone when the inhibitor was first applied. She levitated a relatively small book from a bookshelf in the corner and laid it in front of me. "Try imagining that this book suddenly fles upwards and hovered." Twilight said, looking back and forth between my horn and the book, waiting to see any form of magical aura form on either side.
I closed my eyes, visualizing the room around me within my imagination. I focused on the book that lay in front of me and imagined it floating upwards. Letting my twisted imagination take over, I then imagined a pair of eyes and a mouth growing out of the spine of the book.
My imagination made twilight disrupt my focus with an "eep" that hinted something had happened. I opened my eyes to notice the book had actually grown a face on its spine and was attempting to attack Twilight's leg using its cover to move around and slap, a cute yet venomous growl radiating from its mouth. Twilight cast a spell that returned the book to normal, then looked up to me, an expression of confusion and horror covering her face.
"Sorry, I have a twisted imagination." I said, undazed by the events I had just caused.
"I... can see that," Twilight comented, levitating the ex-monster-book back to its place on the bookshelf, "maybe you should try to keep the twists uncurled."
"Yeah, I should probably watch myself. At least I know how to do basic levitation now?" I said, trying to change the topic to focus on what I HAD achieved.
"True, " started Twilight, "but you still need to imagine with your eyes open, Star."
"Not a problem," I stated, "I had plenty of time to practice my imagination back in my world when I was extremely bored."
Twilight taught me how to do different things using different situations that I could conjure within my imagination. When I had finished her entire basic training program just before nightfall, she was very suprised at my learning curve, showing it off with a comment, "Do you realise that you have completed what normally would take a unicorn several years to finish? You are learning this even faster than I did when I was a filly, and even I took about a year to finish basic training after I began learning magic! You must be my new rival in magic, you have to be! I've never met such an easy magic learner as you, not even myself!"
As Twilight rambled on about my rapid success, of which was undoubtedly achieved by the ridiculous amount of time in my childhood I spent just sitting and imagining different things to keep myself internally busy, I found that I was very tired from a day of constant magic usage and trotted up to my little burn-bed and purposely faceplanted into it, falling asleep moments later after I positioned myself comfortably.
