The fucked up life of Lynx.
Midnight meetings, and a guard's confusion
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLynx walked out of the Library Twilight and himself would be staying in, and out into the night, adjusting his father's hat, and flaring his wings. A cool breeze sifted through his dark blue wings. Lynx started to run at a house, then jumped off of it, and up into the night sky. A beautiful starry night sky greeted Lynx as he flew through the air, dodging clouds and taking in the calm moonlight shining down on him. Lynx looked down on the smallish town and smiled lightly as a few couples walked through the streets, taking a stroll. Turning his head to his destination, he realized that it wasn't too far from the Everfree Forest. Lynx slowed down as he began to land. Lynx ended up crashing into the ground side first into some branches, instead of a regular landing, on his feet. He groaned as he got up and brushed himself off, noticing a few cuts on his arm.
'Crap. Better not let Fluttershy see those. Now where are those...what the fuck?'
Lynx raised an eyebrow as he found his parent's memorials that he had made when he was 12, surrounded by bouquets apon bouquets of every flower known to Lynx.
'How? I never told anypony about this...'
Shaking his head, Lynx searched his pockets for the necklaces he and a metal worker in canterlot had worked on. One was a silver wolf with sapphire eyes and a emerald aura. Lynx had never understood Equestria's magic, so he just went with it. Lynx walked over to the tombstone grave he had made and hung the necklace over it, dangling with his father's dog tags. The dog tags read;
'Colonel Jake W. Shadow USAF' And his tombstone read; 'A badass, a father, and an awesome brother. Jake W. Shadow, 1979-2016'
Stepping over the flowers on the ground, Lynx made his way to his mother's tombstone. She didn't have any dog tags, because she wasn't in the military. She had been a college professor, teaching mathematics. Lynx took out the other necklace, which was a robin with emerald eyes and a ruby and silver body, a golden aura surrounding the bird. Lynx kneeled before the tombstone and hung the necklace on it and on the tombstone it read;
'A mother, a sister, and a best friend to all. Alice J. Castle, 1971-2016.'
Lynx shed a tear, before wiping it away, and setting his eyes on the task of perfecting their memorials. He had made this when he was twelve, way before he had access to any kind of tools to carve perfect tombstones. So he found some large rocks and put them in the ground, calling it good.
Some son he was.
Bringing his sword out, Lynx began to cut off jagged pieces on the tombstones with powerful slashes. The edge of Lynx's sword was made of sharpened diamond, so that it could cut through just about anything. The sword was also infused with some of Celestia's magic, making the sword easier to wield, and giving it more power.
While doing this, Lynx saw something move in the reflective surface of his sword. Spinning around, he looked around and saw nothing. Lynx kept a keen eye as he went back to fixing the tombstones. Watching his sword while he worked, he saw that it was a familiar dark blue Alicorn with a starry mane, looking at him curiously, while hiding behind a tree. Lynx smiled. Acting like he was going to take another big slash at the tombstone, Lynx raised the sword high, then spun it, and threw it mere inches from the Alicorn's muzzle with deadly accuracy, making her flinch back in surprise. The sword impaled itself in the soft earth next to Luna.
"Hello there Luna. You didn't have to hide, I promise I don't bite...unless you give me a reason to."
Shaking her head, Princess Luna began to speak in old English and a annoying loud voice, but Lynx stopped her. He walked over to her calmly, received his sword, and went back to shaping tombstones.
"Luna. I know you know how to speak correctly. Please just drop the accent with me."
"Very well. What are you doing out here, Sargent Lynx Shadow?" She asked in a much lower octave.
Lynx looked at her blankly. "Luna. You don't have to say my whole title, just call me Lynx. Besides, I'm off duty. To answer your question, I am honoring my parents with this memorial and i'm just...cleaning them up a bit. What are you doing out here Princess? Shouldn't you be in Canterlot?"
Luna looked down at her hooves, lost in thought. "I left and came here, because the royals are extremely boring, and they don't like me. Although, i don't blame them after all i have done..." Lynx nodded in sympathy as he slashed off another jagged piece of rock. Looking at the tombstone, Lynx saw that it looked a little better, satisfied, he turned around, and leaned on his sword like cane, the blade slightly sinking into the soft earth.
"I feel you there, when I went, no, more like was forced, to live in canterlot, it took many months for both the royals and townsfolk to start accepting me. I didn't want to live in the castle so, I tried looking for a house to rent. All of them sent me away and I was stuck living on the streets, until I met Twilight Velvet and Twilight Sparkle."
Luna sat down. "Tell me more. I wish to know how you, and Twilight Sparkle, became close friends." Lynx sighed.
"I've already told one story today, I don't want to tell another."
"That is an order Sgt. Shadow. Th-I demand it." Lynx chuckled.
"I am a day guard."
"No, thou is a day and night guard. Thou has received training for both." Lynx sighed in defeat. Luna was right. Both the solar and lunar guards had trained him. Part of the reason why he was already a Sgt.
Only part though.
"Can i at least get a please out of you?" Luna smiled as she flared her wings, hovering above the ground a few inches and asked in an adorable voice;
"Pleaseeeeeeeeeee???????????"
while doing this;
"D-d-d-damn L-l-luna! T-t-that was adorable! Yeah I guess can tell you how I met twi."
Luna giggled and sat down next to him. Lynx sheathed his sword.
"Ok, so it all began when..."
(Seven years ago....)
"Sorry, but you scare most of the ponies here and it would be bad for my business if I allowed you to buy a house from me. Once again, sorry, and good day to you sir." A grey earth pony in a suit said as he slammed the door in Lynx's face. The impact of the door hitting his face made Lynx rub his now bruised forehead. Sighing, Lynx made his way back over to his favorite running trail and began to jog. A bench along the trail caught Lynx's eye as he panted heavily from running non-stop for two and a half hours. Sitting down on the bench, Lynx began to look up and around at the park, the only place where the city wasn't covered with cement or stone. Lynx dreamed of going back to Ponyvile and seeing thunder, lightning, rose, and the mares again. Especially Rainbow...Lynx sat upright.
'No Lynx! No! That was just...just...a dare ! Yeah! It's not like she liked you...or did she?'
'I don't know Lynx, that kiss was really something...' Another voice in Lynx's head said sarcastically.
'Fuck off Wolf! I don't want to deal with you right now!'
'What a dick...'
'Oh so I'm a dick?'
Lynx's thoughts were interrupted by a panting purple unicorn with dark purple hair, and a white unicorn with purple hair with white streaks in it, stopped in front of Lynx's bench. The purple unicorn didn't seem athletic at all, while the white unicorn seemed full of energy. The purple one seemed around Lynx's age and confirmed it by complaining.
"M-mom (pant) why did I (pant) have to come with you? This is torture!" Lynx chuckled in his head, and Wolf did as well, thinking;
'If only she knew.'
"Mom" scoffed. "Oh please twilight, all you ever do is study, study, study, and no fun!" then the white unicorn looked at Lynx, who was still panting a little. "Besides there's nothing wrong with a good run, wouldn't you agree Lynx?" Lynx straightened up.
"How do you..." The mare grinned.
"Oh please, all Celestia talks about with me anymore is you and Twilight here. You know, she is pretty worried about you, Lynx."
"Twilight" and Lynx looked at each other, then looked at the white mare in confusion once more.
"Huh?" They said in unison. The white mare just smiled.
"How about we all introduce ourselves. I'll go first. My name is Twilight Velvet." She held out her hoof to Lynx. Lynx shook it.
"Lynx Shadow, and before you ask, I don't want to be a prince." The purple unicorn walked up to Lynx and held out her hoof, shaking slightly
"T-twilight Sparkle, student of Princess Celestia. What exactly are you? I haven't seen a lynx like you before. I didn't even know Lynxs' could talk." Lynx and Velvet laughed.
"I am a human. My...father...well he named me Lynx in memory of his grandfather." Twilight looked disappointed.
"Aww and here I thought I found a new cat species..." Lynx looked at Velvet in confusion, who just shrugged. Then she spoke.
"So Lynx, how goes the friend and house search?" Lynx visibly cringed.
"Not well. All of these stuck up ponies, no offence, are still scared of me, and think I should be on the streets where I belong." Twilight gasped.
"That's horrible! I'm so sorry, I don't see why someponies are afraid of you...(wait. wasn't she shaking in fear a minute ago? well either she's really bipolar or just fuck my logic)...hey mom?"
Velvet looked at Twilight. "Yes?"
"Can't he stay with us?" Velvet smiled.
"Why? Are Shining and Spike not good enough for you?" Twilight rolled her eyes.
"They don't talk to me anymore. Would you Lynx?" Lynx smiled, and then put a hand to his chin, stroking his non-existent goatee.
"Depends..." She looked at him with a pair of purple, irresistible, puppy dog eyes.
"Puhleeese?"
"Fine."
"Yes! Now I can learn about humans!" Together, the three of them headed to the sparkle home, side by side, talking about random topics to pass the time.
(present time)
Luna looked at Lynx incredulously.
"So...that's it? Just like that?" Lynx just shrugged.
"Honestly I think Celestia called in a favor and the Sparkles are just a happy go-lucky family. Now, what made me and Twi good friends is what happened at that house hold. But that's a story for another time."
Luna sighed. "Very well, thou can tell me next time I visit." Lynx nodded. Then he looked at his watch.
"It's pretty late, I have to make sure the girls are fine, and I need some sleep. I look forward to seeing you again Princess Luna."
"As do I Sgt...err...I mean...Lynx." With that, the dark blue Alicorn spread her wings, and flew away into the night sky. Lynx watched as her body disappeared from his sight. Lynx sheathed his sword.
'That ass though...' A voice in Lynx's head teased. Lynx rolled his eyes.
'Fuck off Wolf. We can't be hitting on the princess. It's against the law or something.'
'Damn politics...'
'Exactly.' With that, Lynx flared his wings and leapt into the air, thrusting his powerful wings to keep aloft. As he sailed into the night sky, he started to pester Wolf, the entity stuck in his head.
'So...Luna huh?'
'No. More like...Celestia.' Lynx's eyes went wide and almost crashed into the ground. Gaining altitude before he ate shit, he asked;
'Uh...may I ask why?'
'Have you seen that ass?' Lynx blushed and a tent in his pants began to form as he remembered something.
'Yes Wolf, I have, and so have you. In fact, we even got to...to...do something with it. Isn't that good enough for you? And will you please stop trying to watch it all play out again?'
'Oh come on, you know you want to remember that again.' Lynx sighed.
'Yes...but...what I don't want to do is show up at Twilight's with a super-hard cock!'
'Too late.' Sadly, Wolf was right. There was a rather large tent formed Lynx's pants. Lynx looked around in the air and saw a lake surrounded by a few trees. Lynx smiled as he braced himself and dived down towards the body of water.
'You wouldn't...'
'Hell yes I will! Cold shower for the-SPLOOSH!' Lynx was cut off as his skin touched the ice cold water, putting an end to his erection. Lynx quickly swam his way to shore, and gasping and shivering.
'C-c-celestia fucking d-damnit Lynx! W-w-why!?' Wolf shouted and stuttered in Lynx's mind. Lynx wondered the same as he made his way into Ponyvile, shivering in the cool, now freezing, breeze. His ABU's with the guard logo and Celestia's and Luna's crest on either side of his shoulders, clung to him, trapping him in a frozen prison. His wings dripped with the frozen water from the lake, and ice had formed in the feathers, making his wings too heavy, and painful to fly with.
'Fuck it! Shirt's going off!' Lynx thought as he set his sword down by a nearby building and took off his soaking shirt. Grabbing his shirt and sword, Lynx ran to the library, drying off a little and getting some exercise in too. As he approached the tree/library, Lynx heard some things being thrown around and some arguing. Reaching behind his back, he pulled out his sword and pressed against the door, ready to kick it down. Hearing the sound of hoof steps, Lynx whipped around, sword just inches away from the pony's nose. It was Apple Jack.
"Woah there, Lynx. Ya nearly cut mah muzzle off!" Lynx sighed.
"Sorry just a little on edge. Do you know what's going on in there?" Lynx asked, pointing at the library. AJ shook her head.
"Not a clue, sugarcube." Then she walked past Lynx, going into the library. Lynx followed, sword still in hand. Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Spike, Thunderlane, and Fluttershy quieted down as Lynx and Apple Jack entered the Library.
"Hey guys, what's going on in here?"
Twilight spoke up. "Nothing just uh..."
Pinkie Pie cut her off.
"We're just figuring out where you're going to stay. Also-" RD put a hoof in her mouth.
Lynx laughed. "Ok simple, I'm staying with Twi. I was actually assigned as her personal guard as of yesterday, and well, she's my best friend."
"Oh. Ok..." Thunderlane said, pawing at the ground. RD and AJ also did this. Lynx realized what he had just said.
"Oh come on guys, I didn't mean it like that. You all are still my best friends in equestria. I just need to stay with Twilight here because she doesn't know the town and i do. Also, i'm her guard so i kinda have to keep a close on her." The three nodded.
"We just haven't seen you in forever and..." Thunderlane started.
Lynx put his hand up. " And you want to spend time with me. Well didn't you hear celestia? Im not going anywhere. Goodnight." With that, Lynx set his clothes, sword, and hat on the couch before laying on the floor, curling up, and falling asleep. The group of ponies looked at Lynx with a raised brow.
"Uh...Lynx?" Twilight asked as she prodded the human with her hoof. No response came from the sleeping male . AppleJack grinned.
"Lynx ain't gonna wake up sugarcube. Ya should know this already." Yawning, a sleepy Rainbow Dash made her way over to the sleeping human and curled up to him, resting her head on his chest.
Jaws dropped, while spike and Twilight looked on in confusion.
"Uh...does she normally act like that?"
Thunderlane shook his head. "Nope...that's a new one..." The rainbow maned mare opened her rose colored eyes.
"And this never happened..." With that, the rest of the ponies took the hint and made their way to their respective homes, leaving a sleeping human and cyan mare curling up to one another in the moonlight.
======================================================================================
Golden rays of sunlight shone in Lynx's face as he was awakened by the sound of someone knocking on the library door. Lynx ignored it and continued to sleep. The knocking got louder.
"This is LT. Flashstorm, open up!" Lynx's eyes snapped open as he recognized the voice.
"Hold on a second and i'll answer the door!" Lynx yelled as he cradled his "pillow". That was until he realized that it wasn't a pillow in his arms, but a messy haired, rainbow maned, cyan pegasus. Lynx's eyes widened. "what in the fuck...?"
"Sarge, get your flank out here before the Captain has our hides!"
Shaking his head, Lynx quickly detached himself from the sleeping mare and started putting on his uniform.
'Still damp...damnit.'
Grabbing his sword and hat, Lynx ran out of the library, colliding with a white pegasus wearing the same uniform. Only difference was the gold bar that lynx didnt have. Standing at attention, Lynx saluted.
"Sorry Lieutenant."
"Let's just go before the Captain kills us."
"Yes Sir!"
(Canterlot, Elite Guard Training grounds.)
It was a slightly chilly morning and the sun was slowly making it's way over the horizon illuminating the sky in a bright orange glow. It might have been a beautiful morning to enjoy and take part of if the Phoenix Guard didn't have to stand in formation and watch as their commander paced back and forth muttering under his breath.
Captain Night Striker was a dark blue unicorn with a single grey stripe that ran down his right side. His mane was a jet black with a slight blue accent to it. His cutie mark was a sword being illuminated by the moon. His eyes were a piercing amber color. His gleaming sword gave off a soft "clink" with every step he took. He wore a red and yellow uniform, decorated with similar traits as a blazing fire. He looked to the skies and smiled slightly at the approach of his last two guards. Landing with heavy breaths, the two new arrivals saluted him.
"Sir! 1st Lieutenant Flashstorm Reporting for duty! Sorry for the lateness!"
"Sir! Seargent Shadow Reporting for duty! Sorry for the lateness!"
Night Striker looked at them with cold eyes. "Don't let it happen again you two. Fall in."
"Yes Sir!" The two fell in to formation and Night Striker started to take roll. Facing a Griffin wearing the ranks of a Seargent, Night Striker raised a hoof to his head, saluting.
"Report."
The Griffin saluted.
"Sir, all guard in my team are present and accounted for, with the exceptions of Steel Heart, Sir!" The Captain nodded then faced the other teams lined up, doing the same thing. After the attendance was done, Night Striker led his troop through some rigorous training, (push ups, wing ups, 7 mile run, and drill) leaving them winded, with aching bodies, and fast beating hearts. Next, they went to the training grounds where the Captain singled Lynx out.
Lynx stood at the ready with his sword out while the rest of his troop armed themselves with weapons. Night Striker slowly walked up to Lynx slowly, raising a levitated sword at him.
"So...Seargent....I heard about your little assignment in ponyville..."
Lynx gulped. 'Fuck...' Lynx thought in his head.
"...and that you failed at it. Was it really THAT hard to guard Celestia's student? No? Well then, today, we're going to find out if you are worthy enough for the job. LT! Grab a bow and some blunted arrows will ya? Let's make this FUN."
With that, Night Striker swung his blade in an arc, causing Lynx to flinch back and raise his sword to block the attack with his sword, Slicing the Captain's sword in half.
'Huh, i guess a diamond edged sword does come in handy.' Wolf said in Lynx's head.
The Captain grinned as he threw away his sword, and levitated a wooden sword from a wall to Lynx. "Ah ah ah... you get to use a training sword today. No upperhand to you."
Lynx pouted as he sheathed his sword and threw it to the side, grabbing the wooden sword from Striker's magical grasp. Taking in his surroundings, Lynx saw that Flashstorm had a bow and arrow in his hooves, trained soley on him. The rest of his troop watched from the side, making bets. The captain tapped Lynx on the shoulder with his own training sword, getting his attention.
"Shall we begin Seargent, or do you want to daydream all day?"
Lynx responded with a low-sweeping kick to the Captain's legs, causing him to fall and give Lynx the chance to put his sword to his throat. Lynx grinned.
"The question, Captain, is if you are ready." A sharp, searing pain on Lynx's back caused him to reel back and look around. An arrow by Lynx's feet made him look to Flashstorm, who grinned as he nocked back another arrow.
"Don't get cocky Lynx. That's what gets guards killed."
'The Captain's right lynx...' Wolf said in lynx's head. Lynx growled.
'How about you help me out then?'
'Nope this one's on you.' Wolf stated as the Captain's sword came back at Lynx in a flurry of strikes, in which Lynx failed to block. The Captain grinned. Lynx rubbed the spots that Night Striker hit.
"What happened to the Lynx i know from Baisic training, hm?" Lynx thrust his sword at the Captain and spun around, giving the unicorn a round house kick to the side. The Captain responded with a signal to Flashstorm. "Alright Lynx, here's test one, dodge, block, and attack while avoiding the arrows." Lynx rolled to the side as a blunted arrow whistled past his ear, snapping in into fragments when it hit the ground. The Captain dove at Lynx and swung his sword in an ark, and smacked the hilt into Lynx's gut, causing Lynx to grunt in pain as he reared back. Another arrow came speeding past Lynx, making him flinch. Flashstorm laughed at him.
"C'mon Seargent, light on your feet!"
Lynx growled then lept forward, dodging an arrow and sliding underneath Night Striker, jabbing his stomach. The Captain jumped then was caught in the side of the face with a arrow. Shaking his head, the captain spun around to face Lynx, only to find him grabbing his horn, kicking his legs from under him, and put his sword at the Captain's throat. Lynx smiled.
"So Captain, i think i can handle myself and Celestia's student." Lynx released the captain. Night striker looked at Lynx, grinning.
"So i see...Cadet." Lynx's eyes widened. Memories of basic training rushed back into his mind.
"You...aren't...sending me back to..."
The Captain grinned even wider. "Yup. You guessed it Cadet, you are going BACK to baisic training in a couple months so you better sharpen up your skills." The Captain looked at his troop.
"TROOP ATTEN-HUH!" The phoenix guard quickly went to attention. The Captain looked at them with cold eyes. "DIS-MISSED!" With that, they all left, leaving Night Striker, Lynx, and Flashstorm in the training ground.
Flashstorm walked up to Lynx, standing by Night Striker. "You see Cadet, Night Striker here is getting a promotion to Colonel and he is leaving command of Phoenix guard to me. Now I need a trustworthy second in command and You seem like a good candidate. So we decided on sending you to the advanced officer training program."
Lynx had no words. Only a dropped jaw and a thought in his head exsisted. That is untill a Solar Guard landed in the Training grounds. Lynx turned towards him. The Solar Guard looked at Lynx.
"Are you Seargent Lynx Shadow?"
Lynx nodded.
"Good. Grab your stuff, Princess Celestia would like to speak with you."
Lynx looked at Night Striker. He nodded. "You're dismissed." Lynx saluted before grabbing his sword and flying away, towards the castle, where Celestia waited.
