The Interview

JINX

My home was the start of my new life and what a home it was. The house was two stories high. I was in the mid hallway on the lower level right before the entrance. I moved forward past the set of double doors. I noticed a bathroom on the left side of the hallway. As I kept walking I notice the first door on the right which led into the kitchen. The room behind it was the dining room. Across from that was a private bedroom and closet. I guess this was my room but, before I moved my stuff in I wanted to see the rest of the house. I headed to the second floor of the house. There was a main hall on the right side I could see the living room? That seemed strange but, what did I know about making homes. As I looked beyond the living room I could see two more doors one led to another bedroom but, this bedroom was a lot bigger than the one downstairs this one also came with its own bathroom. This was my room. The other door led to a little library. It clearly had not been used in a while. This was a lot more space than I could ever know what to do with. This is going to take a lot of time to clean. I would clean all this later right now I needed to head into the city. It was at least a fifteen minute walk from my new home.

Baltimare was kinda not what I expected. I was expecting it to be bigger than my old town but, this was just...wow there were buildings that touched the sky. The city was livelier than anywhere I had ever been, that said I did grow up in a small town. I must have been walking while I looked around because I walked into somepony. I quickly backed up trying to get a look at what I walked into.

“Sorry I wasn't paying attention to where I was going.”

“You should really pay more attention.” The stallion replied then walked off.

Yup he was real friendly I thought to myself in sarcasm. I can't let one rude stallion get to me. Today was a big day for me. The day I could make a new start for myself. As I continued looking over the town this time checking every now and then to make sure I wouldn't run into anypony. I noticed a clock but, what shocked me was the time on it. It was twelve o'clock. Horse apples i'm going to be late. I had completely forgotten about the interview. It was the biggest reason why I was able to live on my own. I could not afford to be late. I have ten minutes to get there. Sadly the only clue I had about the building was that it had a big microphone on the building. It took me seven minutes to find it. I’m not sure why it was so hard to find something so big. I rushed through the door. I looked at the clock on the wall above the main desk. I still had two minutes left. As I walked to the dask a mare greeted me. She had a cream color coat and a blue and white mane she was wearing a red bow.

“Hello how can I help you today miss...are you ok?” She must have noticed how tired I was.

*huff* *huff* “I’m fine.” I started catching my breath I continued.”I'm here for the interview.”

“Well alright but, you must have been flying for a while to get so tired.”Flying?…..FLY! how could I forget I had wings. That would have made finding this place much easier.

“Your name miss?” she asked.

“Its Razzle Dazzle.” I replied. She then began to flip through some papers and found my name.

“Yup, you're right on time please follow me Ms.dazzle.”

As I walked with her I thought to myself about how I could have forgot about my wings. I guess the reason was because I had not been able to use them all that much. I was raised on land with my unicorn parents. They could not teach how to fly and when I did learn to basics from a friend they didn't want me doing it for my safety so, flying was something I didn't do very often.

When we arrived at the interview room I noticed how large the table in the middle of the room was. It had a bunch of wires connected to large box. I had never seen anything like it before. The mare told me to have a seat at the table and wait while they got ready. I waited for about five minutes or so trying not to touch anything in fear of me breaking something. A stallion walked in he had a seafoam green coat and a fiery orange mane with small burn scars at the base of his horn. What could he have been doing to have burns there? Was he in a fire or something? I wanted to ask but decided it might be a touchy subject so I said nothing.

“Hello my name is Magicae but, my friends call me Magis. I will be the one interviewing you Ms.Dazzle.”

I nodded. The reason I went with that name is because me and my best friend came up with it on the fly. I never knew I would get published let alone be on the top sellers list. When I started writing it was for the fun of it. Getting lost in my own characters and the hardship that had to face in my stories. One day my parents read one of my stories and loved it. My dad said I should try to get it published a couple months later and here I am.

“Just...Razzel is fine.” I said my voice squeaked a little from being so nervous.

“Well Razzel when this red light comes on we will be live. I'm just going to ask you some questions about the book and what made you want to be a writer. I can tell its your first interview so try to relax.” He points at a red light above him with his hoof.

“Ok.” I took some deep breaths feeling the tension flow out of me. Magis was a nice enough stallion way kinder than the one I bumped into. I can do this just a couple simple questions then i'm done. I noticed that Magis horn started to glow a dark red as he moved two microphones. One was in front of him and one was moved in front of me. The red light blinked on and he started.

“Hello everypony and welcome back to Black Hawk radio! I'm your hosts Magicae and today we have a real treat for you guys. Today we have the very lovely Razzle Dazzle. For those of you who don't know she is has one of the best selling books out there. Now folks you know i'm not much of a reader but I loved her book!”

I blushed a little from all the praise he was giving me. I was a nice feeling but, way too embarrassing. Wait why was I embarrassed we were the only two in the room and Magis was just doing his job. Its not like there were hundreds of ponies listing….. wait there were.

“So what inspired you to start writing?”

“Well when I was little I spent a lot of time telling stories that I made up to my friends. They loved them always asking me to tell them another. They said I should try writing, that I might be good at it. One afternoon later I had my very first chapter done. When I finished I felt really excited to have somepony read it. My parents were the first to read it and, they loved the story and that made me feel overjoyed! I knew I wanted to write more and that was also the day I got my cutie mark!”

I looked down at my flank there was two closed books with a quill in between them. my cutie mark was my reminder of that amazing day.

He asked a few more questions like the ones he said he would and I was giving my most honest answers. Trying my best to not to stutter and make sure I don't take to long. It was going great I had relaxed a lot more then when we started. It helped that he made a few jokes in between each question. Overall I had a really nice time.

“Well folks thats all the time we have for today. Thank you again for coming on the show Razzle maybe you can come back again sometime.”

“Thank you for having me on Magicae. I had a really nice time and I would love to come back in someday.”

“Thats all the time we have for today. I'm Magicae signing off.” The red light went out and he removed the microphones and set them on the table.”See that wasn't so bad now was it?” He said as he was stretched out each hoof.

“Easy for you to say, you do stuff like this everyday.” I replied.

“Good point but, you did have fun right?”

“Yeah it wasn't as bad as I thought.”

“I do have one question I want to ask you but, I knew you would not answer over the radio because it was personal.”

“Um ok whats your question?” I hoped it was nothing embarrassing.

“What's your real name?”

That shocked me.“I..Im sorry what!?” How did he know? There is no way he could know. Did I let it slip during the interview. How could I have been so foolish?

“I can tell that you are way too shy to want to be famous. Let alone have fans follow you. So Im guessing you made up the name to keep to yourself, am I right?” Wow he was good he could tell all that and we only been in the same room for an hour. I guess its ok I mean he did kinda understand why I made the name. He could have told everypony but, he didn't.

“If you knew that then why didn't you expose me on your show?”

“Because I understand why you did it. You're not the type to be in the spotlight.”

“Sounds legit. My names Jinx if you're really that curious.”

“Its very nice to meet you Jinx. Well if you have nothing better to do me and my friends where going to grab a bite to eat if you want you could come with?”

Well that was unexpected. Why would he invite me to come eat with him and his friends. Maybe he just wanted to get to know me. Maybe it was a trap to expose me but, if that was true he could have done that while we were live. Maybe I'm overthinking this whole thing. I had nothing better to do so, why not?

“Sure I got nothing planned after this.”

“Great give me one second to get my bag and will go.”

After he got his bag we headed out. Today was not at all going how I thought it would, It was going much better. The harder part of the day had past and now that I can relax and enjoy myself. We walked in silence for a while. It was weird so, I spoke up.

“Sooo you questioned me mind if I do the same?” I asked.

He smiled. “Sure, I don't see why not.”

“Ok, where are we going for lunch?”

“Its one of my favorite places here. They have the best hay fries around.”

“You said you and friends. Where are they?”

“My friends are meeting us there, by the way were here.” He pointed at the building with a hoof. A cozy looking plays on a street corner the windows have the name starlights dinner it was slightly crowded the walls were a nice shade of yellow.

“Awww, I had more questions.” I pouted.

“You can finish asking me later.”

“Fine but, that line looks pretty long don't you think?” I asked, I was really hungry and waiting did not sound great at the time.

“Were not waiting my friends are already inside at our favorite table.”

As we walked passed the ponies in line. I could tell they were not to happy about us going in front of them. He led me into the back. There were two stallions already sitting there across from each other.

“Hey guys I would like you to meet my new friend Jinx, Jinx this is Snow Drift and Dusty Trails.” He pointed to each of them. Snow Drift mane was pure snow white with a stripe of ice blue. His coat was sunset red. he had a band around his left wing.
The other dusty trails was an earth pony he had a brown coat and a clay red mane.

“Hey nice to meet you both.” I gave a nervous wave.

“Hello Jinx very nice to meet such a lovely mare.” Snow said with a tone in his voice that was unclear to me.

“Sup” dusty stated simply.

I sat down next to dusty and magis sat next to snow.

“So Magis where did you meet this cutie.” He said making me blush a little. I let my mane fall into my eyes so I couldn't make eye contact with Snow.

“Well you guys won't believe who this is. Jinx is none other than ouch.” I had hit his leg from under the table making him look at me. Once he saw the look in my eyes he realized what I wanted.

“What I meant to say was I met her after work and invited her to come hang out.” I'm not sure if they believe that or not but, they moved on anyway.

“So Jinx where are you from? you don't seem like the type of pony to live in a big place like this.” dusty asked. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad one. Judging by the stallion I ran into earlier I'd take it as a good thing.

“Wherever shes from they must be doing something right to have made something as lovely as you.” Snow committed. Ok so there is being polite and there was just plain flirting and he was definitely flirting. Even when I knew he was coming on to me I could not help but turn red at his words.

“W...we..well im from.”My voice starting to squeak. I slowly started to descend into my seat. Snow just kept going.

“You really should not hide such beautiful eyes under your mane.” By now I could feel the heat coming to my cheeks.

“I..I….I” words were failing me I could not think at this point. I could hear dusty laughing probably from how red I looked. I was going to die here. Suddenly magis spoke up.

“Ok you had your fun Snow leave her alone. Sorry Jinx Snow likes to make mares as red as you just were.

“Yeah, mares are fun to mess with but, I'm into stallins.” Snow stated.

Wait Snows into stallion!? that shocked me. I couldn't tell if I was shocked by the fact or, by how direct he was being. I guess you can't judge a book by its cover but, if Snow thinks I'm going to let him get away with this joke he was in for a big surprise. Two can play this game.

I got up and starting walking out. All three stallions realize their mistake. Snow being the fastest quickly got in front of me using his wings to fly a little over my head. I hung my head down letting my mane cover my face. It was also hiding the smile I was desperately trying to get rid of.

“Jinx wait it was just a joke please don't be upset.” Wow he sounded serious. Great I had him right where I wanted him. I quickly forced fake tears into my eyes.

“Wh….why?” I said low enough that only snow could hear me.

“Why what?” he asked. Then I went in for the kill.

“Why would you play with a mares heart like that. I was really thinking we could have been a thing! I could have given give us a chance and you said all these things about me was that all a lie!?” Magis, Dusty and Snow jaw dropped to the floor. I guess they were not expecting that answer. This was just too perfect.

“Well I...I we uh joke.” He was as speechless as I was at this point. I could not hold it in anymore I fell on the floor laughing. I could see snow face turn bright red. That made me laugh even harder. Dusty and Magis were laughing with me now. After that we all sat back at our table this time Magis was sitting next to me while Dusty was sitting across from me with Snow.

“Snow we cool? I mean you did start it.” I held out a hoof. he bumped it showing that we were.

“Yeah were cool I gotta hand it to you your acting was really good. You really had me going there. Don't think I'm going to forget about this. I don't play to be even I play to win.” He stated excitedly.

“Same here.” As I brought my hoof back to me my stomach screamed to my brain for food loud enough that the hole table could here.

“You sound ready to eat.” Magis said.

“Yeah top tear acting can do that to a mare.” I replied.

The waitress had finally came to our table and took order. When she finished getting our order she left back into the kitchen.

“So if you two are done I would like to have my question answered.” Dusty stated.

“Yeah were done for today. I’m from a small village near Hollow Shades. I just moved here today.”

“So how do you like it here so far.” Magis asked.

“Well i'm still having trouble remembering where is where but, other that its been great.”

“You know if you having nothing to do tomorrow we can show you around right guys.” Dusty and Snow noded in agreement.

“I would love that.” I said that a little more excitedly then I wanted to. The waitress came back with our food. None of us talked as we ate. The food was just too amazing. After lunch or should I say dinner. When we lift the restaurant the sun was already setting. Snow had somewhere to be so he flew off. Dusty had a night shift so he walked with us until we splitted ways. That just left me and Magis. We started walking towards my house.

“Can I ask you something?” he questioned.

“Sure.” I replied.

“Why couldn't I tell them you were a famous writer?” Of course it had to be that question. I lowered my head as we kept walking.

“You wouldn't understand.” I replayed.

“How could you possibly know that.” He said with a playful tone.

“You're not gonna let this go are you? Even if I told you its from a bad experience I had?"

“nope.” He answered. "How can i understand if I dont even know what happened?" He asked.

“fine.” I took a deep breath then started.”Back before I got published when I was doing this for fun. In my hometown I was a nobody and I only had one true friend. She was great always there for me no matter what she kept me safe from bullies and from myself. I...I was in a really dark place before I got my cutie mark. I tried to fit in anyway I could but nothing ever stuck. My best friend...,..my only friend. She is one of the reasons I am here today. You remember when you asked me what my biggest inspiration was.”

“Yeah?” He said a little hesitant.

“She was if it wasn't for her….I might not be here.”

Just like that the world around me stopped. My body was extremely cold. I had not notice I stopped walking. I had not notice the tears falling down my face. I had not felt this way in a long time. Part of me was holding this in somewhere deep inside. I was alone again just before.

Suddenly it started getting warm. I could feel hooves were rubbing my back. Magis had me in his embrace. It felt really good to be hugged. I kept crying for who knows how long but, Magis stayed there with me. He didn't say a word he was just there. I had finally stopped. Still wrapped in his hooves he asked.

“Are you alright?”

I nodded still unable to speak, not that I wanted to.

“I’m sorry I had no idea it was that bad. If I would have know I would have never brought it up.”

“Its ok I think its good I tell somepony. I feel better now do you want to hear the rest?” He put his hooves on my shoulders we were looking into each others eyes. I can see that he truly cared for me. He cared for somepony like me somepony he only know for a day.

“Only if you think you can finish.”

I took another deep breath and looked into the sky. The moon was out now it looked so beautiful tonight. I looked back at him and continued. ”When I got my cutie mark my parents wanted to see if I could get published and I did. When everypony found out that I got published everything changed. Suddenly everypony started to accept me and I of all ponies was popular. Thats when things got bad. I started seeing less and less of my one true friend. The worst of it all was that I didn't even care. I was a completely different pony. I managed to keep our friendship before it was too late but, it came with a price. I never want to be that pony again. Thats why I hide and thats why I moved here to start fresh.” I waited for him to say something anything but, there was only silence. I hung my head down no longer wanting to meet his eyes. He must hate me now. I had always been a worthless. A nothing that was good to no one. I felt a hoof on my chin it made look him in the eyes.

“I may not fully understand what made you do what you did but, the fact that you don't want to be that pony you once were shows more than you know. You might not see it in you but, you're stronger than most and you should feel proud of that. Im not seeing you for what you did in the past but, I am seeing you for what you do now and right now I see a great mare who needs to let go of the past.”

His words were not like anything I ever felt. Magis was not seeing me for my past sins but, for who I was now. I hugged him again. he wrapped his hooves around me once more. I wish I could stay like that all night. it was silent for a few moments before he broke it.

“Its getting really late we should probably get you home.” He backed out of the hug all too soon.

“Yeah you're right.” I leaned on him for support. I was way too emotionally drained to support myself completely and he didn't seem to mind. We were finally outside of town when I spoke up.

“Magis theres been a question on my mind that I've wanted to ask when I first saw you.” I said letting a little yawn.

“Yeah what might that be?” I pointed at him horn with a hoof.

“What happen to your horn?”

“Well its not something I like to talk about but, you did open up to me. I'll tell you about it tomorrow. its a long story.”

“fine I can wait but, you owe me a story.” He walked me to my door before speaking again.

“You want me to pick you up tomorrow?”

“Yeah.” I open my door then looked back at him. He smiled and waved

“Goodnight Jinx.” He said.

“Goodnight Magis.” I replied. I felt that was the wrong way to end this night. I had to do something for the pony who stayed with me even knowing everything I did. I saw him turn and start to walk away.

“Magis.” I called he turned around.

“Yeah.” I walked starlight up to him and kissed him on the cheek.

“Thank you for everything today.” Then I went back and my house closed the door and fell on the floor my face the reddest it had ever been.
