New Beginnings
Memories Part 2
Previous ChapterOver the course of the next week Dusty and I did all the research we could on what I had seen. We found out that the creature was called a changeling and they fed off love of their victims. They were extremely dangerous and you should avoid them. If you were to find one you should report it to the local garud. The problem with this is that my mom didn't seem like any of these things. She was nice, kind, understanding, loving, I had never seen her as dangerous but, was this really my mom or a changeling that's been using me for a life long meal.
Dusty and I came up with a plan that would help me find out the truth. The plan we thought was full-proof but, thinking about it now, it was a stupid and childish plan. I was going to comfort her and find out what was going on. Dusty's job was to make sure a member of the royal guard was within the area just in case everything went south. He would be watching from outside the window. The signal was that I would make my horn glow. It wasn't the best play but, it was the only thing we could think of.
I sat in the living room waiting for that door to open. A million things flew through my head as I waited. There were so many ways that it could have played out and not many ended good. Before I could go any deeper into my own head I heard hoofsteps on are porach. I listened intently, as I heard the doorknob turn. She walked through the door and jumped a little when she saw me.
“Magis!? What are you doing home alone. You should be at Dusty's.” She closed the door behind her with her magic and stepped towards me.
“Don't take another step!” I said trying to make my voice as stern as I could.
“Magis what's wrong?” She asked with a worried expression on her face.
“I know what you are.” I said coldly.
“Magis I don't know what your talking about.”
“Admit it! Admit that you're a changeling!” I yelled. Her expression went from worried to shocked.
“Magis, that's ridiculous. I-”
“STOP LYING.” I yelled cutting her off. Anger I never know I had seemed to come out of nowhere. “Just tell me the truth. thats all I want.” My emotions mixed between anger and sorrow.
“I am telling the truth. I am not a changeling.” She tried to step closer.
“Im warning you. don't take another step.” I therantend.
“Magis what gave you the idea that I was a changeling?” she asked.
“A few days ago you were in my room looking at a picture of me and dad.” I noticed her eyes widen in surprise. “Then you changed.” I was ready for her to lie about everything. I was expecting it but, she said nothing. I stayed silent waiting on her to respond. The silence lasted for what seemed like forever but, the words she spoke were ones filled with truth. I know that were true but, hearing her say them didn't make it any less painful.
“Yes, Magis…. I am a changeling.” She admitted. “I didn't want you to find out this way. I was going to tell you when you got older.” She explained. I stayed silent, tears falling from my face. There was only two questions I had.
“Did dad know about you or where you just using him for love?” I asked. It was clear that she was taken aback. She tried to get closer but, I lit my horn and she stopped.
“Magis what did you just do?” She asked nervously. I just stayed silent letting my horn glow for as long as I could. “Magis tell me what you did.”
“I told you not to take another step.” I said. I knew I had little time to get answers before dusty came with the garud. “Tell me! did dad know about you!”
“Magis, I don't think you're ready for that. Look at how you're reacting to knowing about me.”
“Thats because you didn't tell me about it. Then when I found out about it and you denied it. How am I supposed to react!” I yelled back.
Before we could continue, the front door slammed open. Stunned by the door opening I could only watch as one of the royal guard came in. His eyes turned straight to my mother. Without warning his horn started to glow. Everything was happening to fast for me to keep up but, before I know it a blast of magical energy headed straight towards me. I wanted to move but, my body did not listen so I braced myself for the worst. The pain from the blast never came only darkness….
Jinx
I was on the edge of my seat waiting to hear more but, he stopped. He just stared into his empty mug. Over the course of the story we had a lot more drinks then we should have. I was sure if we got up we would fall on our flanks but, none of that mattered I wanted to hear the rest of the story.
“Magis what happen after that?” I asked, impatiently.
“I don't remember anything after that. All I know is I woke up the next day in the hospital with these scars on my horn. The doctors told me that I was lucky that I only had scars. The guard wasn't so lucky. He was found outside my house with a broken horn and scars covering his body.” That made me shudder a little but, he continued. “After that I had to live with Dusty's family. Till this day I still wonder if that changeling was my mother or did she take my mother's life for her own.”
I sat there stunned. What happened to Magis was a pure tragedy and there was nothing he could have done to change it. This made me question a lot of things that night. My main question fell on Snow and Silver. Where they fooling me this hole time? could I really trust them. Where they capable of doing things like that? Should magis know about them.
“Magis I-”
“Its fine.” He said, cutting me off.” Lets just have some fun.” He said downing another mug.
I simply nodded. “What do you want to do then?” I asked.
“I was hoping you would say that.” He said with a smirk growing on his face. ”care to dance?” He asked.
“Sure.” I said. I wasn't much of a dance but, I had a lot of drinks during that story and my body felt like moving. So we drunkenly made are way to the dance floor. I was way too drunk to care about anything. We danced for who knows how long, laughing as we tripped over our hooves.
After we finished dancing this hardest part of the night came, the walk home. It had gotten a lot colder then it was a few hours ago. I wasn't able to keep myself upright so, I used magis for support. He said he was fine but, he was probably was using me to balance us both.
The walk took no time at all as we walked and talk about random things. Somehow we got on the topic relationships.
“Magis, do you have a marefriend?” I asked, my tone of voice turning serious for a moment.
“N-no why do you ask?” He was shocked by my question but, I couldn't tell why.
“Because I don't want to have to deal with a jealous marefriend if you did.” I said. He looked at me puzzled. “Back when I was popular I had this friend, well she was more of somepony I knew. She thought that I was dating her coltfriend because I help him with his work a few times. It was such a pain. I just don't want that same thing to happen again.”
He laughed. “Trust me that won't happen. What about you? Is there somepony I should be looking out for?”
“Nope! I never had a coltfriend before.” I said.
“Really? Why not.” He asked.
“I never really had for dating I was always busy. How about you?”
He stopped and thought for a moment. “I only had one real relationship and it didn't end well.”
“Was she a bitch?” I asked bluntly. He stopped and looked at me stunned “Oh, sorry.” I apologized. “Its the alcohol talking.” I said.
“its fine.” He said, as we continued to walk. “I just wasn't expecting it but, yeah she kinda was to my friends at least.”
We had finally made it to my house after all the giggling and almost falling over a few times, we made it to my front door.
“Well, i'll see you tomorrow.” Magis said, swaying from side to side. He was barely able to keep himself up.
“Magis, I was thinking you could stay here tonight. Its really late and you look like you can barely walk as it is. I have an extra room you could sleep in.” I said, trying to justify what I asked.
He stayed silent for a while before answering. “Sure.”
