Author's Note
This story is placed in the far future like everyone from canon is dead and myths. I'm still working on it and I take a bit to update so please don't worry it.
In The Bakery
Life has always carried on. No matter who is queen or king or princess life goes on. The sun rises and the moon falls even if there isn’t someone there to tell them to do so. Weather changes without cleanups or races. The Ponies of Equestria live on, discovering new species and races, evolving to new heights. Life isn’t truly peaceful, wars break out sometimes, there is crime in the streets but there is a lull between the good and bad. It’s not a bad life for those who live it. Or at least that is how it appears on the surface.
Carrot Creations likes to see herself as a well rounded Earth Pony. She keeps her head out of the clouds but keeps her heart open. Maybe that’s how she got in this position she thinks numbly staring at the stallions with slicked back hair and sunglasses. They look like the typical villains from movies and it makes her stomach roll. They just stand there, they don’t talk and for a moment she wonders if they are mute. The the one to the right steps up, his fur blends in with the black of his suite, he has gray hair that is not only slicked back but long enough to be put in a low ponytail. He looks in her direction, he’s wearing shades so she can’t tell if he’s actually looking at her and who the hell wear shades inside a building?
“Carrot Creations?”
“Yes sir,” she prefers to be called Carrie but she isn’t telling the Stallion In Black that. He hums and comes closer to her. Her back straightens and her large rabbit like ears twitch. She doesn’t like strangers in her space. He doesn’t say anything just gives her a plain white envelope, furthering her discomfort and her paralleling him with movie characters. She takes the envelope carefully. It’s rather heavy and there is thick decorative script. When she looks back up they are gone. Oh gods, she’s going to die isn’t she? They put a powdered poison in it that will blow up into her face when she opens it. She doesn’t want to die. Walking as quick as her legs will allow she places the envelope on the counter. Celestia’s hairy armpit this is bad, bad, bad! She fights the urge to bang her head onto her counter.
What on this green earth has she done to be given a mysterious envelope from scary Stallion in Black wanna be’s? Her hands clench and she settles for placing her chin on the counter and stares at the envelope. It’s taunting her to open. ‘Come on and take a chance,’ it whispers. ‘Sure I can kill you in numerous ways but I could also be a very good thing.’ The door to her bakery bounces open followed by the sound of off key whispered singing. The mare who walks in has black fur, splattered with red ink.
“Hey Carrie! You would not believe what my Master had me transcribe today! Why people want print books when there are holo books still shocks him apparently.”
Carrie smiles as her best friend Ink Blotch rants or rather talks animatedly about her day. Her hyper friend helps soothe her nerves and she rises from her position and walks back around the counter to grab a cake slice for Ink.
“Oh hey you have mail! Can I open it!?”
Her neck turns so fast that she swears she gets whiplash.
“INK BLOTCH PUT THAT DOWN!”
The black mare drops the envelope like it scalds her and steps back, worry and a bit or ‘I’m sorry please forgive me, I don’t know what I did wrong but I’m sorry’ in her eyes.
“I don’t know what that is but it was delivered by creepy people don’t touch it.”
Dark green eyes stare at the envelope suspiciously now.
“Like stalker creepy or part of organized crime creepy?”
“The latter.”
“Fun…. Well be better open it anyways. We will need masks, gloves and tongs along with something long to open the envelope,” Ink says “We’ll tackle this like an ancient Theology book.”
Only Ink would liken a possibly deadly letter to an old book. Luckily she has most of those things handy, mainly because Ink was telling her you never know when you’d need them. But first she heads over to the door and flips the ‘Open’ sign to ‘Closed’. She really doesn’t want to be responsible for any accidents and the S.I.B scared away her other customers when they came in. When she comes back with the needed items Ink is going over the thick script that merely reads Carrot Creations. Silently they put on the masks and gloves and Carrie lets Ink open the envelope though she’s the one who takes the letter.
The letter is written in the same thick script only instead of words there are numbers. Her brows furrow. Ink Blotch looks over her shoulder trying to figure out the code and both mares pale when the see the signia at the end. There is a large sun with a black crown sitting in the middle of it. The gem that sits in the middle of the black crown is cut in a Celtic cross style and is a dark purple.
“Why in the seven levels of Tartarus are the Misplaced Crowns contacting you? Do you speak against the Princess? You do know if the guards hear you they’ll kill you right?” Ink speaks quickly no longer very interested in the deciphering the message. The less she knows the more truthful she can be if questioned. Carrie gives Ink a look.
“I don’t know Ink and I’m hurt you think me so stupid as to speak against royalty. I have a few customers that do that and a few who speak for her. Personally I’m torn.”
“Do we want to figure this out or give it to the guards?”
“If we give it to the guards they’ll think we’re part of them and arrest us. I don’t wanna go to jail.”
“Well then, we’ll figure something out….”
