My Little Pony Champions of Justice
Chapter 14-A Lesson In Humility
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe morning after Blueblood had arrived, things were already starting to go downhill; for he continued to act like the spoiled prince he was. Upon stepping into the castle’s kitchen, his first reaction was that of shock. Shock from the fact that he saw Twilight cooking in the kitchen.
"P-PRINCESS!? What is the meaning of this!?"
"What are you talking about Blueblood?"
"You're...COOKING!"
"Um yeah. That's what ponies do when they want to eat." Twilight stated as she returned her attention to the stove, calling Spike to the kitchen. She hummed a happy tune as she set the plates for the three of them, while Blueblood just sat there in disbelief. A princess doing manual labor!? To him, it was an insult to noble ponies everywhere.
"Here you go Spike! One triple cheese omelet!" Twilight said happily as she hoofed over his plate.
"OH BOY!" Spike shouted in excitement, licking his lips with anticipation. Like any big sister or mother, Twilight kissed the baby dragon on his forehead before gently rubbing it.
"How about you Blueblood? Want anything?"
"Toast and coffee I suppose." Blueblood requested, trying not to be rude towards her hospitality. "Princess Twilight."
"Please just call me Twilight." She insisted while putting some bread slices in a toaster.
"Yes of course. Twilight? Why don't you have servants here? You're a princess now."
"True. I just don't feel right having other ponies do stuff for me simply because I'm royalty."
Blueblood had a hard time wrapping his head around this concept as Twilight handed him his meal. After breakfast Blueblood returned to his room to find a rather large travel bag along with a note from Valiant.
Meet at the edge of the Everfree Forest.
Valiant.
"Oh joy. Camping." Just the thought of the word made him shudder. He preferred the castle gardens over an actual forest.
Meanwhile, Flash and Valiant had assembled near the forest’s edge, along with Button Mash and his friends. They were rather excited to go camping despite the various dangers they were told about.
"This is gonna be fun!" Pipsqueak said in excitement before standing at attention with the others.Valiant marched up for inspection. Like always, he was dressed from head to hoof in his armor along with Flash. The two knights looked over the three squires before nodding in approval, noticing Blueblood staggering over as he tried to keep his balance.
"Good gracious! This thing weighs a ton!" He yelled in outrage while the foals tried to stifle their laughter. Flash looked the other way as Valiant facehoofed himself out of embarrassment for both him, and the prince.
"Celestia help me..." He mumbled to himself, peeking out to see Blueblood finally standing in line with the others. Giving a short sigh the unicorn returned his attention to the four ponies to begin the debriefing.
"Alright listen up! Today will be working on your skills in the field. This will test your intuition, teamwork and above all, courage. Also; we have a special guest arriving today."
"Special guest?" Button asked before spotting another Pegasus descending from the clouds above. He seemed to be covered in a few twigs and leaves from the forest, after dusting himself off the pegasus quickly trotted up towards the two knights, looking rather timid.
"Everypony. This is Moonshy, he's an expert in survivalist, and was the one responsible for thwarting the plans of one "Queen Chrysalis" If I'm not mistaken."
"Oh well… I wouldn't say "thwart" I mean, I did have help." The pegasus said humbly, scratching the back of his head while Blueblood groaned out of boredom. With everypony present, the group headed straight into the forest following Moonshy. He pointed out several dangers in the forest. From the most ferocious animals like timberwolves to the various poisonous plants that laid hidden.
"Hey a mushroom!" Button shouted as he picked up the fungus, licking his lips with anticipation.
"Look at me! I'm a Mario!" Button mimicked one of his favorite video game characters as he prepared to devour the plant.
"BUTTON STOP!!!"
KER-SMACK! Moonshy had managed to slap away the seemingly harmless mushroom mere before Button even had a chance to take the first bite.
"Hey! What gives?"
"That's a Death Cap! Once consumed it kills you in minuets!" With that, Button’s face went pale in an instant.
After a long hike through the woods, the ponies stopped at a nearby ledge overlooking a clearing. Thanks to weeks of training, the colts barely felt any fatigue from the journey. Blueblood, however, was an entirely different story.
"Sweet Celestia! How can you knights do this!?" The prince gasped as he crawled to the ledge. He was about to complain even more when he caught a glimpse of the view. A view which he could only describe as “breathtaking.” There was an ocean of green leaves as far as the eye can see, clear starry skies and the light of a full moon. Seeing such a view warmed Valiant’s heart, as it reminded him of his old home back in Azeroth.
"How can a savage place have such beauty?" Blueblood asked, still staring in disbelief at the sight.
"Savage? My friend this is how nature is supposed to be. Untouched, and untamed." Valiant answered as he removed his helmet to breathe in the night air.
"Alright. That clearing is our meeting point, each of you will take your own route. The bags we have given you have enough rations to last the journey, this will be your final test. You must put everything you've learned into surviving this trial. If you run into any trouble, you'll find a signal flare in the backpack...Good luck." With his speech finished, the three colts darted off in a direction towards the clearing. Blueblood just stood there confused, trying to figure out which foal to follow.
"Well...this is a problem."
"Don't worry Blueblood. We picked out an easy route for you." Valiant said as he guided the prince towards a smaller portion of the ledge, followed by Moonshy and Flash.
"There's a small dirt path just below this ledge, be sure to stick to it and do NOT travel without moonlight. Otherwise, it’ll be very easy for you to get lost."
"Excellent! Anything else?"
"Yes. Remember if it hurts just, you know, scream."
"What?"
BUMP!!
AHHHH HOO HOO HOOEYYY!!!
Before he knew it, Blueblood was sent crashing down into the trees below. Valiant gave a smug grin and waved goodbye while he did this. Once he was sure all four were out of sight, Flash gave a quick nod before taking off with Moonshy towards the clearing.
"Let the games begin."

Not long after crashing into the bushes, Blueblood burst from the shrubbery. Still traumatized by the event, he took a few deep breaths to calm down while viewing his surroundings. The forest was different below the canopy, it had an eerie feel to it. All was quiet save for a few insects and birds chirping away. Knowing he could not stay in one place for too long, the prince quickly followed the path, with the help of the moonlight; while keeping an eye out for timberwolves and any other dangerous creatures. But the atmosphere of the dark forest began to play tricks on his mind.
Soon he began jumping at shadows shaped like monsters. The sound of the wind howling through the trees sent a chill down his spine, followed by the hooting of an owl. For what seemed like forever, Blueblood wandered the path and noticed the moonlight was starting to fade. Clouds had begun to roll in and it was getting colder by the second. That was he remembered his backpack.
"Oh please let there be a blanket in here." He said out loud rummaging through the supplies. He found a canteen of water, a small satchel with bread, fruit and a box of matches, but sadly no blanket. For a while, he sat there under a tree shivering until he remembered the camping trips from his youth.
"That's it!" He exclaimed, beginning to gather some fallen branches and dried leaves into a small pile. At first he tried to light the fire using his magic but, as it turned out, he wasn't so good since he spent most of his time flirting with mares back at his aunt’s school. After several failed attempts, he finally went to the box of matches. His hopes were lifted for a moment, but upon opening the box he came to find one single match stick. He began to whimper, thinking:
"What did I do to deserve this!?"
Once lit. Blueblood slowly placed the match onto the dried leaves, and a fire slowly began to build. Finally relieved from the cold, the prince began rubbing his hooves together for extra warmth. He gently blew on the flames to ensure the fire didn't die out. As he looked around once more, the forest didn't seem as scary as he remembered. All around he could hear the beautiful sounds of birds and insects singing into the night and above him. The clouds covering the moon began to part, revealing the starry sky once more. With this, Blueblood began to wonder why he spent so much time in the palace instead of exploring the kingdom like his aunts, or Twilight and her friends. The answer: Because he didn't have any.
In his youth, Blueblood wasn't always the spoiled stallion everypony saw him as. Once he had friends, children of fellow nobles. He was introduced to them by his aunt’s, but they turned out to be a bad influence. Upon meeting them, young Blueblood saw the foals picking on some of the castle servants. When he asked why they were doing such a thing, one of them answered:
"Because we can! We're better than they are, so we have every right to stomp all over these loser ponies! Remember that Blueblood."
Though he never remembered the name of that particular foal, Blueblood followed his advice. Soon after he grew into the arrogant unicorn stallion that everypony knew. That, was a mistake.
"Well this is a surprise."
Moonshy had seemed to appear out of nowhere, startling the young prince.
"SORRY!! I'm sorry! I- I- I didn't meant to startle you!" The pegasus said sounding nervous, waving both hooves in apology. After calming down the two ponies sat around the fire, keeping each other company while passing the time with some conversation. But after a fair bit of small talk, Blueblood went quiet. He just sat there, staring up at the moon and stars.
"Uh… Blueblood? Are… you okay?" Moonshy inquired trying to break the silence.
"Fine I suppose...just thinking about old times." The prince sighed before telling Moonshy a bit about himself.
"When I was young, another colt told me that royalty had the right to act superior to those below our status...I fear that I made a mistake following this advice.”
"Didn't your parents teach you better?" The pegasus asked as Bluebloods head sank down in sadness.
"They...died when I was young."
"Oh....I'm sorry."
"It's fine....I would probably be an embarrassment to them." It was clear that the prince wasn't happy with the life he had made for himself. A spoiled rich pony who goes around acting like the world was his oyster; and treating every mare he met like dirt. Moonshy, however, had a different opinion.
"I don't think so. I mean… um, look at you now! Out here, all alone, with no servants or guards. You’re having an adventure!"
"Hm. Some adventure." Blueblood replied with a smirk. "How are the others doing?"
Being a little hesitant to answer, Moonshy scratched the back of his head, looking rather surprised as he gave the details.
"Well...Pipsqueak only made it down the hill before having a hard time hauling the supplies. Rumble instantly got lost and forgot we gave him a map. As for Button..."
Somewhere in the forest.
"AHHH HA HAA!! MOOOOM!!!!" A young foal franticly ran through the woods. Something large was chasing after him, as the trees behind him were shuttering with some enormous weight.
Meanwhile. In an abandoned fortress, Grogar had begun to work his magic on the many animals brought to him by his minions. He gave each a more fearsome and sinister form as he showed them to his master.
"The preparations have been made my master. Where shall I send the test subjects?"
"....Ponyville."
The End.
