Sleep, everypony needs it, even the princesses. Every fifty thousand years for five thousand years one of the sisters take their long nap whilst the other rules Equestria alone. The fifty thousand year mark was soon upcoming and it was Celestia’s turn to sleep. Celestia walked groggily over to Luna, her mane was an absolute mess and crest was worn lopsided. Luna had taken notice of this as a sign for her sister’s deep rest.
“Ready for thou’s slumber, we assume,” Luna asked Celestia, seeing that her usually stately presence was ruined by her rather sleepy and messy appearance.
“Yes,” she answered in a sleepy, grumbling tone,” are you ready, sister?”
“Yes, Tia, I’m certain thou will sleep soundly, Equestria is in good hooves.
“Yes, I know that I will sleep well knowing my sister is in charge, it’s just that it’s only your second time ruling all by yourself.”
“We can understand why you might be concerned, but rest assured, things will be just fine.”
“Good, well then, I guess this is goodbye for a while, goodnight sis, see you in five thousand years.”
“Good night then, we love you.”
“As do I,” she replied, smiling at her younger sister as she climbed into bed.
Luna smiled as she looked upon her resting sister; she left her sister’s quarters to be met with two guards adorned in golden armor, their coats were a pearly white, one was a unicorn the other a pegasus.
“Good luck,” said the guards as they stood erect by Celestia’s quarters.
“Thanks,” Luna thanked.
Luna trotted up to the castle’s observatory, where here quarters were, inside the walls and floor were a midnight blue, just like her coat. The ceiling was embellished with phosphorescent stars that resembled the night sky. A spiral staircase was on the back wall, leading up to the telescope section of her chamber. A white carpet sat below the canopy bed which included ash wood night stands and across them sat a matching dresser. Next to the bed was a balcony that contradicted her dark room which looked out to the castle and Equestria below. Back inside, their was a bathroom complete with shower, jacuzzi, sink, toilet and black marble floor. Finally, she had her study which sat at the top of her room with her telescope.
Luna had trotted upstairs to her study, where she spent the majority of her time at. She sighed when the royal messenger huffed a sizeable load of papers on her desk, making it even more chaotic than it usually was. She rummaged through the letters, examining them one by one. Over time, the pile disappeared as a new one formed with the letters she had already read. She was sighing and huffing her breath until she had come upon a harrowing letter, it read:
Dear Princess Luna,
It has come to our attention that there has been a disturbance between relations with us dragons and you ponies. I am supposed to be under the understanding that there was to be no pony settlements that cross into our territory and; are you, by violating our treaty, insisting that this not be? The dragons insist that you meet at the border where the problem lies.
Sincerely,
Draco
Oh no, she thought, we hope that the dragons will be able to accept our terms. The last thing we need is another Draconic War.
Luna trotted out of her room and to the library, once inside, she looked for a drake. She searched in aisle upon aisle of books when after searching for her tirelessly she happened upon the red baby dragon who was the royal messenger.
“Hello, Belinda.”
“Hello, your majesty,” Belinda exclaimed,”how may I be of your service?”
“Yes, about that, there are some pressing issues concerning the dragons and us, apparently, there have been reports that there has been pony settlement that has crossed the border, we need thou to inform the treaty committee of this.
“But of course, your majesty, I will inform them, I guess you are leaving?”
“Yes we must leave to see that the negotiations go well.”
“Well best of luck, princess.”
“And thanks, and that is why you are my number one assistant!”
“Aww, shucks!”
Luna headed towards her carriage, next to it were a few batpony guard who stood upright by it.
“Hello guards, we need to go to New Neighxico to discuss peace settlements.”
“Alright, your highness, we will ready your coach for flight.”
“Very well then.”
After the team of batpony had readied Luna’s carriage, they had flown off. In all the time they had traveled in Equestria, they had reached their destination within five hours of non stop flight.
“Greetings, your highness,” said the military pony as Luna exited her carriage.
“Please,” she replied,”call us Luna, we may be a princess, but their is no need for formalities.”
“Alright, Luna.”
“So,” asked Luna,” when are we going to meet the dragons?”
“Tomorrow morning, Luna.”
“Very well then, we need you to gather all the officials together for a meeting.”
“Can do.”
Luna was walking to the meeting room, when:
Crash! Luna had crashed into another pony who was carrying some books.
“Oh my,” exclaimed the dark grey unicorn, he had a black mane with a white outline, the edge of his form was a white line and his cutie mark was a lunar eclipse, ” I’m sorry- Princess Luna, I am so sorry.”
“It’s okay-”
“Eclipse.”
“Yes, Eclipse, such a beautiful name, might we help thou with this mess?”
“Thanks and of course! It is an honor to meet you, you are my inspiration, if it weren’t for you, I would never serve under you!”
“Aww, thanks! So what do you do here?”
“I am the stockpony for the records.”
“Do you want to join thou?”
“Of course, your majesty!”
“Please, there’s no need for formalities, just call us Luna.”
“Alright, Luna, such modesty.”
The two trotted towards the meeting room, once inside, there stood some ponies dressed in military uniforms, they saluted Luna as she entered.
“Greetings, my little ponies,” Luna greeted.
“Welcome, your majesty,” one of the officials said.
“Please, just call us Luna.”
“Alright, Luna, how are you finding your stay at our facility?”
“Well, it’s not Canterlot palace but hey, it’s a military base, what do you expect. Anyways, I’d say fine, funnily enough, I found this pony,” she said pointing to Eclipse,” carrying books and we accidently bumped into him.”
“Ha ha, that’s quite funny, indeed, so, about our plans.”
“Yes, we must start the meeting. So, how are we to get these unwanted settlers out of dragon territory?”
“Yes, about that, we have come to the decision that we will inform the settlers by letter that they are to be abdicated from their homes. We have then planed to work with the ponies to build them houses that are fit for them. We won’t do this, however, if you do not consent, we will not go through with it.”
“Very well then, we will go through with that plan.”
Luna and the others exited the room. Next to Luna trotted Eclipse which were heading towards her room.
“I hope the dragons accept our proposal,” said Eclipse.
“As do we. So, tell us about you, we are very interested in you.”
“Well, I was born and raised in Canterlot, my parents we the kind that wanted me to succeed at everything academic that I did. I was going to be the royal librarian when there were tensions between the dragons and us. You and your sister came and once I set eyes on you and saw how you convinced those dragons to not deny our treaty, I knew that I wanted to serve under you. By the time I swore to serve you, I had found that the librarian spot had been taken. Saddened, I decided that the only job that I would be good at by serving you would be this.”
“Ah, another fellow intellectual, I see, not many of us are there?”
“Yes, I suppose.”
“So, how would you like to come with me and stay at Canterlot palace once this is all said and done?”
“That would be amazing, one might say I’m over the moon!”
“Ha ha, good one!”
Luna and Eclipse decided, despite it being awkward, to sleep together, the bed was very large so that either princess could fit in it, so it diminished the awkwardness. Once awake the two headed for the border.
“Greeting princess,” said the Chief Dragon in caliginous tone.
“Greetings Chief.”
“We have noticed that those settles have not since left.”
“We have arranged for them to leave immediately and are to destroy the unlawful settlement.”
“Well you must be mistaken, because a little pegasus told me that they weren’t going to move, whatever you tried to do and that they are not under your rule.
“Well,” Princess Luna calmly said before raising her voice,” then tell them: THEY ARE GOING TO BE BANISHED TO THE SUN FOR THEIR CRIMES AGAINST EQUESTRIA!”
“Only one problem, they are out of your jurisdiction.”
“IT DOESN’T MATTER, THEY HAVE COMMITTED A HEINOUS OFFENSE AGAINST MY KINGDOM AND THEREFORE WILL BE PUNISHED!”
“And another problem, despite what you said, they are not in your jurisdiction and they will not move. They are under their own control and until this is fixed, we have some unresolved issues. I want a solution soon or, I may be afraid, we will once again have to go to war.”
“Well,” Luna said, her voice returning to normal,”My army will mount a defense against them.”
“Well, what happens if this plan doesn’t work?”
“It will and, by the way, since they are not under my rule, our problem is null and void, however, I will fight them for you AND THEN WILL PUBLICLY HUMILIATE THEM FOR THEIR TREASON AGAINST EQUESTRIA BEFORE SETTING THEM ABLAZE ON THE SUN!”
“Ok, I don’t mean to offend, but you really need to use your inside voice.”
“Sorry, we use the royal ‘We’ when something that we are passionate about makes us angry.”
“It’s alright.”
And so Luna gathered an offensive to fight against the traitors.
