Daring Daughter

"She's not mature enough yet!" yelled Green Scales."What if something happens to her?"

"I'll be with her!" retaliated Daring."And besides, she can take care of herself. She's not a little filly anymore!"

"But she's never met ponies before - except you." argued Scales. "They won't understand her!"

Solar was stood watching her parents argue; she could barely contain herself. She just wanted to yell, "STOP!"

Daring and Scales abruptly stopped their bickering and turned to stare at their daughter.

"Just stop it both of you!" yelled Solar. "I'm tired of being treated like a little filly! I'm old enough to take care of myself and go on a mission. I know my training, I'm ready, you can trust me Dad. And Mum will be with me. I am going!"

Daring and Scales shared a look.

"She's not going to give up on this." murmured Daring."She's the most persistent filly I've ever met. Just let her go."

"You're right," Scales sighed."We can't fight her, you can go Solar, just promise me you'll be careful."

"I will Dad!" replied Solar."I'm gonna go pack my saddlebags now!" With that Solar ran off to collect her stuff.

"I hope you know what you're doing," said Scales to Daring.

"Of course I do!" said Daring arrogantly."I'm Daring Do. Greatest explorer who ever lived!"

"Yeah I know." chuckled Scales."Just look after our daughter."

"Ok, chill," sighed Daring."I'm gonna go help Solar pack." With that Daring flew off to help Solar.

"Hey Solar." said Daring."How are you doing?"

"I'm fine Mum, really." replied Solar. "I know what I'm doing."

"I know, I know." said Daring "I just want to make sure you've got everything you need. Have you got rope, water, you're hat, banda-!"

"Mum stop!" yelled Solar." I've got everything ok. I'm ready!" At this Solar narrowed her eyes and crouched into a fighting stance. Daring laughed, "I know I just want to make sure you know what you're doing. Just in case we get separated though, I made a list of ponies you can trust, but remember, never tell anypony who me and your dad are."

"I know!" said Solar taking the list. She looked at the names on the list. "Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity... Aren't they the Elements of Harmony?"

"Yes they are." Daring replied. "I've met them. You can trust them all, especially Rainbow Dash. Just don't go around telling them that I'm your mum, ok?"

"Ok!" said Solar happily. "I just can't wait to go!"

"Yeah. I'm excited too. The first mission with my daughter." laughed Daring."But you had better get some sleep, we can't have you falling asleep tomorrow."

"Ok Mum! Goodnight." said Solar quickly. Solar then sped off to brush her fangs. Then she rushed back and lay in bed.

"Night Mum!" said Solar.

"Night Solar." replied Daring. Daring blew out the candle and quietly left .Solar lay awake thinking about the next day and how it could change her life forever.

Slowly Solar began to drift off to sleep. But her sleep was troubled. All the doubts and fears she had came out to play at night. The fear she would lose her mum, the doubt that she might not be meant to be an explorer like her, the fear of meeting other ponies, the fear that they would hate her. "What is it?" "It's a monster!" "A half-breed!" "It doesn't belong here." "It doesn't belong anywhere." "Ha ha ha ha ha!" "Solar! Solar! Wake up Solar!"

Solar awoke abruptly to see her mum standing over her.
