A Misty Secret
Chapter One - Investigation?
Load Full StoryNext ChapterUnder any other circumstance Pinkie Pie would be happily trotting through the streets of Ponyville, smiling and cheering up her friends but she knew that wouldn't solve the problem right now. Smiles wouldn't make the crimes go away... She walked by Rainbowshine who was visiting her friend, Colgate. Rainbow was trying to comfort her. Colgate was sobbing and her pink friend was patting her on the back with a worried look.
"-It will be alright, Colgate, don't you worry. The Mayor will find who did this, and you will get your picture back."
Colgate was trying to be optimistic, she nodded, but she couldn't or didn't want to talk. She just cried.
Pinkie could tell that the picture Rainbowshine was talking about ment a lot to Colgate. She couldn't believe why would someone steal something like that. It wouldn't have any value to a stranger.
They both saw Pinkie, she gave them a reassuring nod in sympathy. Rainbowshine tried to smile back, but she couldn't bring herself to it.
This wasn't a unique situation. In the last few weeks dozens of homes were broken into and a lot of things were stolen. Sometimes food, sometimes personal objects sometimes gold. It was inconsistent and noone knew what the thief was after.
Pinkie was on her way to Twilight's library. She was a smart unicorn and she helped Pinkie solve a mistery before so Pinkie was sure the two of them can help the town out with this one.
She shortly arrived to the treehouse but she didn't expect to find it in this condition. The front door and windows were wide open and a pile of books was under the second floor window and several new books were thrown out every second.
"-It's not here...it's not here! It has to be here!" - Pinkie heard Twilight's screaming from the inside.
"-SPIKE! What did you do to it?! Where is it?!" The screams got a little intimidating.
"-Oh no! Twilight too?" Pinkie concluded with a sad sigh. But she quickly changed her expression to a more dedicated one. With determinded confidence she quickly run inside to the second floor.
"-HEY! TWILIGHT!" She screamed right into her friend's ears. "WHAT UP?"
Twilight froze in place in fear. That noise was really unexpected. The second floor was a mess. Even more so than usually. Twilight's bed was filled with books, Spike was hiding under it no doubt waiting for the Twilight storm to die down. The window was opened and the shelves were empty. Twilight threw all the books to the floor as she was searching for something.
"-Ah, Pinkie...hello. I don't have time to talk, one of my rarest and most precious books is gone! I always put it right there every time I read it." She pointed to a place on the shelf that now was empty. "-I know I put it there two days ago, but when I woke up today it was nowhere to be found. I always check it just out of habit." She looked devistated. She sighed and sat down on one of the clear spots on the floor. There were books almost everywhere else.
"-Don't be sad, Twily! You're one of the smartest ponies I know! I'm sure you figured it out already, but it's the Mystery Thief's doing! He stole your book, Twilight! He'll never stop unless You and Me do something about it. Whatcha sayin'? The dream-team back together Hah? Come on! If we investigate this together we can make Ponyville the happiest place in Equestria again!"
"-You're always so enthusiastic about everything Pinkie." She sighed and looked out of the window for a moment. "-Thank you. You're right. There's no use moping around when we could do something. Oh." She turned to Spike and looked under the bed." -Sorry for yelling at you, I was really upset about the book...I know this wasn't your fault." She stood up and started to search through the piles of books on the floor quickly, using her magic. Pinkie was always fascinated by the view of the flying books.
"-What'cha looking for Twi?" She asked.
"-Um...I remembered having a...THERE IT IS!" She pulled out a blue book from the bottom of the pile and held it up in front of Pinkie.
"-Take this, Pinkie. I'll be heading to Canterlot to talk to the Princesses and find a spell that can help us. In the meantime here in Ponyville, it will be up to you. This book has everything you could need. You proved yourself back on the train I believe you can try to solve this case in the traditional way."
Twiligh never looked so determinded in a long time. Pinkie was surprised that Twilight actually trusted her to investigate on her own. She thought if she agreed to do this she would want to have her eye on her not to get in any trouble. She almost teared up.
"-Are you serious, Twilight?" She asked with a huge smile.
"-I've never been this serious in my entire life. The train is about to leave...I have to hurry. Good luck, read the book carefully and don't let Spike to be caught up in this please!" She yelled as she ran down the staires and out the door. The train really was about to leave. Looks like Twilight didn't want to waste any time.
Pinkie looked out of the window and watched her unicorn friend run out of sight.
"-You won't regret this, Twi. I will find whoever is behind this." She said to herself. "-I mean...I will try." She looked at the book.
