A Misty Secret
Chapter Two - Crime Scenes
Previous ChapterPinkie Pie spent a few minutes to read the first chapter of the Daring Do book. The protagonist was solving a murder mistery in it. The first chapter was talking about how important it is to carefully inspect the scene of the crime.
"-Um...Twilight kind of made a mess of this place." Pinkie was thinking out loud. Spike listened to her with a broom cleaning up. "-I don't think I would find anything here... if there were any clues I wouldn't be able to identify them."
"-So you will need a new victim with a fresh crime scene." Spike added.
"-You're right. That kind of makes me sad. There will have to be new victim in order to find the thief." Pinkie answered and she helped Spike clean up. "-I'll be going. If Twilight or the Princess sends any letters about the case let me know." She told Spike as she walked out the door.
"-Sure thing, Pinkie." Spiked waved after her and he went back inside.
Pinkie decided to just walk around town hoping she will get a better idea what to do instead of just waiting. She still decided to smile happily and greet everyone she came across. She couldn't let herself or her friends lose their high spirits.
"-Hi, Pinkie Pie!" She heard from above. It was a familiar voice Pinkie knew immediately who it was.
"-Howdy, Rainbow! Whatcha' up to?" She smiled. Rainbow Dash landed in front of her.
"-I'm on my way to Fluttershy. As you can imagine she really worked herself up about this nonsense. So she asked me to stay with her until this all gets resolved." She said rolling her eyes. She wanted it to seem like a chore but Pinkie knew she was probably flettered that Fluttershy thought she can protect her against a criminal.
"-That's super nice of you Rainbow! I'm sure you'll have an awesome time together. But aren't you worried that your house will get ransacked while you're away?" She asked with a worried look.
"-Nah. " Rainbow shrugged. "-I talked with a lot of other pegasi who live in Ponyville and none of them were robbed. I bet this guy can't fly. It's been nice to talk Pinkie but I'm late as it is and I'm sure Fluttershy is already crying under her bed." She said quickly and she took flight. She quickly dissapeared behind a rooftop.
"-BYE RAINBOW!" Pinkie shouted smiling. "-I'm glad my friends are taking care of each other in these difficult times." She thought to herself. "-I hope Fluttershy will be fine. But what Rainbow said about this guy not being able to fly... maybe she's onto something. I should remember that."
As she was thinking this she walked by Colgate's house. She must have been robbed recently if she was still so upset just an hour ago. Pinkie decided to take a chance. It turns out she wasn't that patient. She knocked on the door.
"-Who is it?" Asked a thin voice from inside.
"-It's Pinkie Pie. I'm here to investigate the robberies. Would you mind if I asked some questions?" She said more calmly than usually because she knew Colgate was in a fragile emotional state.
The door soon opened. Colgate was in the living room, she opened the door with her magic.
"-Sure Pinkie, come in. It's nice to have friends around in times like these." Pinkie heard and she stepped in the house Colgate approached her with a small, calm smile. She looked better than earlier but her eyes were a little pink from the salty tears.
"-It's going to be alright, Colgate. I will do everything in my power to help." Pinkie smiled. "-Is it okay to ask what was taken from you?"
Colgate nodded.
"-It was a family picture from when I was a filly. It meant a lot to me because that was the only picture I had of my grandmother." She looked at the floor poking it with her hoof. "-Um, come here, I show you were I kept it. I didn't move anything...I didn't have time."
Pinkie nodded. She was glad Colgate left the crime scene untouched. It was the living room on a small wooden round table next to the window. It was slightly opened and mild breeze came in through the gap. Some papers were scattered on the floor.
"-So the picture was on the table...and what are these papers?" Pinkie Pie asked.
"-I draw sometimes... these are blank sheets. I kept them on the same table as the picture." Colgate answered. Her eyes still filled by melancholy.
"-I'm sure they were scattered from the wind through the window. Did you left it open?" Pinkie asked.
"-Now that you mention it...no. I usually don't open it through the night. It was like this when I found it." Colgate said walking closer to the window and inspecting it.
"-The thief must have entered through it." Pinkie concluded. "-He took the picture and he either knocked down the papers or after he left a stronger breeze scattered them in the room."
"-Oh...what does that mean?" Colgate asked looking confused.
"It means this thief is extremely untidy! He either didn't close the window after he left, wich is the RUDEST thing I can think of...OR he made a mess of the room with the papers and he didn't bother to clean up afterwards! This guy is the WORST!"
"-Oh, but he couldn't have closed it after himself..." Colgate added. "This window opens and closes from the inside." She pointed out.
"Huh..." Pinkie calmed down a little. "Maybe he is an alright guy but I'm still very mad at him!" Pinkie stated angrily. "-Do you know anyone who would want your picture this badly?" She asked. Colgate was thinking for a short while.
"-If someone wanted it...we could've asked a unicorn with a duplication cutie mark to make a copy. Noone ever asked for this picture." She said.
Pinkie deeply sympathized with Colgate. Since her family lived far away her pictures were very important to make her feel close to them. She said goodbye to Colgate and she headed back home to recollect her findings and come up with an action plan and to prepare for the night watch.
