When a pony dies they go to heaven or hell. Those that go to heaven are blessed with a eternal life. Those that go to hell are tormented for a couple of years until given a new life. If they mess it up in their second life they are eternally tormented and tortured. The however there is a cross line between ponies who become alicorn's. Ponies who become an alicorn live only slightly longer then ponies, so when they die they are reborn they have memories of their past life but they become a alicorn who is immortal, but that's not common at all. Almost all alicorn's that die are turned good with all memories of their past life and they come back to Equestria, regardless of what they did in their original life.

However a few slip pass being turned to being good, and maybe that is the premise of this story.
