“Uhh, just five more minutes” I groaned as I turned around in the bed.
BEEP*
BEEP*
“Alright, I’m up.” I sat up in bed groggily rubbing my eyes as I looked towards the alarm clock.
BEEP*
With great perseverance, I managed to turn of the alarm clock by reaching out to touch the red button at the top of the alarm clock which read 8:00 AM.
“HUUUAAAH” I yawned as I moved towards the dresser and looked in the mirror. “I’m an absolute mess,” I said while looking at my disheveled hair and my wrinkled pajamas. I yawned once more before walking to the closet to grab a towel, and then to the shower to start cleansing myself from last nights events.
After I finished showering and dressing myself, I walked over to the kitchen and living room of my small apartment. I grabbed a glass of milk as you know us Dutch folk do and I put some bread in the toaster, humming an old tune while waiting for the bread to finish toasting. Today was going to be a lovely day, I thought to myself. I looked over to my notice board on the fridge and it read ‘don’t forget to study, test is on May 23.’ “What was the date today, oh yeah the …” my jaw dropped as I released today was the 22nd. “MY TEST, I’ve got get to the library NOW”
I grabbed the glass of milk and my toast, stuffed it in my mouth and ran for the door. “Gotta get to the car.” I muttered to myself as I almost forgot my wallet and my keys on my way out. I took out my driver’s license and saw that it was there and still intact on the inside pocket of my wallet. I chuckled to myself as I saw the picture on the piece of plastic. The picture was one I had taken on the day I passed my drivers license. The one and only time I had ever become drunk was that night. I didn’t remember the night very well but I did get a serious headache and heard strange tales of what happened the previous night the next morning so this card served as my everyday reminder never to drink again. EVER.
Alongside my undignified picture were my credentials;
Name: Thomas Bucklough Polet
Date of Birth: 15 April 1995
Nationality: Dutch
Place of residence: Amsterdam, Netherlands
You know, other information that the police might need to know just incase I infringed the law, which by the way, would totally NEVER happen.
I got in the car, closed the door and fastened my seatbelt. I fumbled with the car keys before finally getting them into the slot. I turned the key and the engine spluttered to life. But just as I was about to drive out of the parking lot of my apartment building, fate decided to have some fun and killed the engine. I attempted to get the car running again but it had stopped working. I tried to find a logical explanation and to my dismay, I noticed that I was out of fuel. So much for fate.
After grumpily stepping out of the car, I locked the doors and started walking along the canal. It was a rather cloudy day as the fall was nearing it end, but nonetheless, it still looked fairly … nice with the sun lazily looming above the horizon. I put my hands in my coat pocket for it was undoubtedly cold. “I really should have fueled up yesterday, now look where that got me.” I grumbled into the morning skies.
“Hey, Watch it” someone yelled as I almost walked straight into him or her without even noticing.
“Sorry sir”
“Just watch it next time”
“Yes sir” I replied as I kept walking, not even once looking up. I was simply too lost in thought to notice where i was going so I put my body on auto-pilot
I took a right and started going into the side streets of the ancient city. For fifteen minutes I kept taking my shortcuts until something caught my eye, something bright. My walking ceased and I stared though a small door into a dark alleyway lit only by a very bright light at the very end of it. My brain screamed at me saying that I should be getting ready for my final exam tomorrow. Half of me agreed and wanted to keep walking and get to the library but my curiosity evidently won as I stepped through the door, into the alleyway.
I started walking towards the light at the end of the alleyway. Once about halfway through, the door slammed shut and I heard it lock. I ran back towards and started banging on the door screaming and shouting for help. To my dismay, not one soul on the other side heard my pleas. I looked back towards the glowing end of the alleyway, fearing what was situated there.
I didn’t want to go that way, so I stayed where I was, afraid. I thought to myself that maybe I was about to be robbed, or murdered. I kept thinking of worse and worse situation all ending dreadfully for me. Half an hour later I figured that if I was going to be robbed or murdered, that it would have already happened and so, curiosity won … again.
Moving towards the light, it became less hard to penetrate the brightness with my line of vision. I noticed that at the center of the light, there lay an amulet on a stone pedestal. Inside the middle was a small gem that strangely looked lie it was moving on the inside. I edged closer to the medallion and stranger it was up close. The gem inside the middle actually had swirling clouds of what looked like mist although magenta and blue were weird colors for mist. This made me think to the galaxy in men in black. The metal around the gem was half gold and half silver, with astounding carvings of ancient battles I failed to detect. Baffled by this strange amulet, I picked up a stone and hit the gem with precise accuracy. The amulet fell to the ground with a clang but nothing else happened.
As I assumed that the thing was safe to touch, I went over to the amulet and picked it up. I traced my finger over the smooth carvings of the battle scene embroiled skillfully into the metal and came to realize that as my hand moved closer to the gem, the swirling mass of clouds started to move more excitedly and in response I would move my hand away again. As frightened as I was of this strange, unearthly relic, I had the deep desire to feel the unnatural gem. I touched it. At first the gem felt warm to my touch, smooth as silk yet hard as a rock. not two seconds had passed before the gem's outer layer shattered like glass and all hell broke loose as the torrent of powerful winds rushed out of the gem and into my finger. I fell back and writhed in agony as I felt and extremely powerful force moving though my body looking for an exit.
I could only scream as the force twisted and turned my body but to no avail. the power fluctuating from the energy burst was unbearable and I began to assume that god had come for me. i though to myself 'what could I have done to deserve this' suddenly the energy changed course and started entering my head. I screamed in absolute torment as the intensity of the power threatened to overtake my conscience.
to my horror, a black, oily substance started leaking its way out of the hole in the amulet where the gem used to be situated. I gasped in torture once again as I felt all the pressure building up inside of my brain. Looking back at the goo seeping from the amulet with half conscience, I noticed a sudden bright light as I was thrown back against the wall of the alleyway with what felt like the force of many, many grenades. I heard a crack and wasn't sure if those were my all my bones, or the wall, though I assumed it was the former as it sure felt like it. I fell to the floor, my conscience failing and my strength drained, I closed my eyes and fearfully awaited death as i knew he was to come and pick me up.
Twilight had just finished reading "The history of the Griffon Wars" for the THIRD time that week when suddenly a massive explosion was heard from the direction of the Everfree Forest. 'What was that' she thought to herself. Out of nowhere, the shockwave hit her and forcefully knocked her back against the wall, sending pain up her right forehoof as the brunt of the impact was forced onto it.
She quickly picked herself up and looked out the window to see that a bright glow was coming from the Everfree forest, though rapidly diminishing. She then proceeded to walk down the stairs and was shocked at the sight before her, spike lay dazed on the gound and all the books had come of their shelves and lay on the floor.
"spike, spike are you alright? SPIKE!"
"eeeuuughgghg," was all that came from the baby dragon as he began to stir.
As she started towards Spike, Twilight heard a flash and turned around to see Princess Celestia and Princess Luna both looking at her with worried faces.
"We need to hurry" was all that Celestia said before she and Luna both ran out of the Golden Oak Library towards Everfree at full gallop
The sunlight sneakily made their way onto my eyelids as I slowly began to regain conscience. I didn't want to wake yet so I did anyone would do, I rolled onto my side. As I did, pain coursed its way through my body
"aaaaahhhhhhh" I screamed out in agony
and with that, I lost conscience once again.
Once I regained conscience yet again, I managed to sit up using only my right arm. I struggled moving as my back kept giving me uncontrollable throbs of mind-racking pain. I took a look at my left arm.
I started feeling sick to my stomach. my left arm was covered in cuts and bruises but worst of all was that it just hung there limply, bent at an unnatural angle. I tried to move it but got only torturous pain in return. The bone must be broken I thought as the pain finally receded. I proceeded to look at both my legs sprawled out in front of me and that did it. I felt extremely sick.
"HHHHHUUWWWAAAA." I vomited onto a cold, stone floor made of large bricks. I noticed then that a pool of red sticky liquid was starting to surround me, engulfing me in the stench of blood.
I vomited a second time and felt the remains of my half eaten breakfast from that morning come out. after getting my bearings back I decided that I should move and try to find civilization. first I called for help but to my avail, no-one came. for the first time, I took notice of my surroundings. I was in some sort of ancient castle ruins as I saw a crumbling roof above my head and worn down walls with massive holes all around me. there were also two thrones at the far end of the chamber. Must have been an ancient royal castle for the king and the queen. I noticed almost instantly that no-one had been here for years an that it was unlikely someone would come here so I decided that I should move and try to find civilization which did however prove difficult due to my situation. I tested my right leg first. Fatal mistake as I had to use my remaining strength not to scream out in misery at the condition of my right leg. there were many deep wounds into my leg and my thigh. my foot was bent at an angle that I didn't even know a foot could bend to, broken or not. but the worst part was the foot-long gash that had cut through my lower leg muscle so deep that I could see the bare bone underneath. It hurt like hell.
Right then the severity of the situation hit me. I was stranded and alone in some place that I don't even know or recognize, I'm was bleeding myself dry, and I was no condition to do anything except wait. I knew I was going to die, I could feel it. Feel death coming closer and closer, grasping its long, bony fingers around my soul and pulling it in. Thats when I began to sob.
I started laying back down and sobbing quietly, waiting for the inevitable. The crimson pool was growing around me and I started to sob even more. tears were rolling down my cheeks and mixing with some of the vital life fluid that had surrounded me, turning it a slightly lighter shade of red. Thoughts of home made their way into my mind as I wept for my life. I started to lose conscience from the lack of the fluid that kept me alive. Before I lost conscience again, I heard a rustle behind one of the walls and I thought 'there might be people coming' so with the remaining strength in my lungs, I called out.
"o-o-ov-ver he-ere, p-p-pl-please, h-help me" was the barely audible gurgle that came from my throat but it was enough. the creature had heard me as he was coming closer. Suddenly on the other side of the stone floor from behind a wall came a white ... horse? in golden clad armor. I suddenly changed my mind about calling for help but it was too late now, the creature had already found me.
We locked eyes for about thirty seconds before I started moving away while the creature only stared at me. I had to drag my legs and my useless arm with the only good limb left on me. I started slowly inching away from the creature. my arm buckled under all the weight. I faltered and fell. I turned my head to see the creature had turned around and was ... yelling for some kind of princess, galloping away at full speed. I though i must be dreaming because I's almost one hundred percent sure that ponies cant talk.
My mind reeled as the fall took its toll on me and I was almost unconscience once again. I saw a bright light in the distance. In front of the light was a figure with wings that raced towards me. It looked like it was coming for me, to take me away from this horrible life.
My final thought before my eternal sleep overcame was one that I had thought I would never come to think; 'god, is that you?'
Since they had raced out of the Golden Oaks library that morning, Princess Luna, Princess Celestia and Princess Twilight Sparkle were looking for the ancient magical signature that had suddenly entered their world with quite a bang. they had started around the edge of the Everfree forest, near fluttershy's cottage but had soon found that that search was fruitless.
eventually, Celestia and Luna managed to trace the energy signature to the ancient ruines of the castle of the royal pony sisters and the areas around it. By the time the princesses all arrived, a platoon of guards had already started scouring the area per orders of Princess Celestia herself. Suddenly a guard came from the main entrance of the castle and shouted
"Princess, we have located a strange being inside the castle. Come quickly, it looks like he's dying.
With that, Celestia took to the sky and flew towards the main entrance of the castle at phenomenal speeds with Luna and Twilight following suit. As Luna managed to catch up, she asked through labored breaths
"What do *huff* you think it *huff* is?
"I do not know, dear sister of mine, but we shall find out soon enough" Celestia answered her sister who grunted in reply.
As they landed and walked thought the main entrance, the sight that greeted them shocked them greatly, Even Celestia. A strange being la collapsed around a pool of blood in the middle of the ancient throne room of the castle. all three princesses approached cautiously and eyed the strange being. After debating if the creature was harmful or not, the princesses decided than in its state, the creature could hardly kill a fly.
"Sister, we need to move the creature to a hospital right away, its dying" Luna exclaimed in a pleading tone
" I agree, we have to take action immediately. GUARDS," Celestia called
"Yes my princess"
"Please take this creature to the nearest hospital in ponyville. Be very careful." Celestia stated
"As you command my princess" The guard said while bowing before galloping away to fetch more guards for the dire situation.
"Princess, can I ask you something" Twilight Sparkle asked quietly
"Of course my faithfull student, ask away."
"What do you think that creature was and do you think it had anything to do with that magical outburst from this morning. There might be a connection that we have not thought of. It doesn't seem very coincidental, that magic burst and now this creature."
"I do not known what the creature is but from his form, I'm guessing that its a bipedal. as for the second question, The creature did not look very magically infused, neither did I sense any particularly strong magic coming from the creature. I'm just not sure what connection the events all have in common. However, we can certainly ask the creature once it wakes up and you my faithfull student can lead the information session " Celestia responded
Twilight seemed to have her spirits lifted by the pursuit of knowledge. Especially an area which nopony ever had the chance of research.
"Dearest sister, Could you please scan the area with a magic level spell please since i know you are best at them. I want to know the extent of this power."
"Of course Celestia" Luna replied as she charged her horn for the spell.
"nothing so far, nope, still nothing, just the same ancient magic as the - WAIT, its there, oh wow. WOW"
"What" both Twilight and Celestia practically screamed in Luna's ear.
"CALM YOURSELVES" was heard from Everfree to Canterlot as Luna used her royal Canterlot voice to calm her sister and her sisters apprentice down. "This magic is beyond what i've known for more than a thousand years, not since before my ... banishment. This is strong magic indeed. So strong it might rival our own.
I started slowly coming back to conscience. My eyes opening ever so slowly, I saw white. A blank canvas, unpainted, in front of my eyes.
I thought to myself 'Am I dead?'
I couldn't feel my legs, literally. I couldn't feel my legs, neither could I move them. My left arm was immobilized but my right arm was still slightly functioning as I gradually lifted it up to my face. Before my hand touched the flesh that surrounded my skull, I touched a soft blanke covering my face.
"doctor, doctor he's awake" I heard someone shout, though I couldn't hear them very well over the immense headache that had formed in my head.
Then all the events that had happened all came back to me. I started violently shaking as panic began to take over. I wanted to move my limbs really badly which caused me to forcefully attempt to move my right leg, which resulted in agony as my leg fell on a metal pole at then end of my leg.
"AAAAAHHHHH" I screamed as the pain shot up my leg.
"hey, stop moving, you're supposed to be still" I heard. Suddenly I felt a tingly sensation on my right leg and my leg was lifted back up on the footrest. eerily enough, I did not feel any hands touching my leg while it was lifted back up.
"w-where am I" I asked
"you are in ponyville hospital, and if I may ask you a question, what are you?" A male voice replied
"what am I?, well I'm human of course, just like you"
"human?, whats a human?"
by now I had the feeling that all of this was a prank. I probably had that bandage across my eyes so I couldn't see all the snickering faces and cameras pointed at me for some sort of reality show that I was put on.
I then started laughing. "hahahahahaha." I heard gasps of confusion from the male voice beside me and a sigh from a female voice on the other side of my bed.
"Sir, I think we might have to run you up on mental stability once you get better. your current situation is no laughing matter"
My snickers died down and I told the voice. "oh please, do you really expect me to believe that I'm dying or something. This is just some elaborate prank set up by some TV-show. Undo the bandages across my eyes and well see who's laughing. Plus, these bandages are really itchy." I held my right arm up to my face, trying to undo the bandages, to no avail.
"very well sir, but let me warn you. You wont like what you see. "
I felt that tingling sensation again as the bandage was unraveling of my face
"How are you doing that" I inquisitively asked
"doing what" the voice replied
"unraveling the bandage without using you're ... you know, hands"
"Isn't it obvious, I'm using my magic to unravel the bandage, and if I may inquire, what are ... hands, as you put it?"
i barely had anytime to think before the cloth was lifted away from my face and I came to stare directly into the eyes of a ... horse? No, not a horse. more like a pony, horse weren't that big. My jaw hung loose as all I did was stare. This pony had a doctors coat on ... wait, he had a horn. A HORN for christ's sake. and what was weirder, there was a brown energy surrounding the horn and the piece of cloth that was being laid down on a table. what was this place? This had to be a dream, there was no other explanation. there was no way that this could be physically possible.
To my absolute horror, the pony on my left with a nurse's uniform spoke.
"well, you still aren't laughing. Bet you're as surprised to see us as we are to see you, ehh?"
It was all I could do not to faint. My mind was being overloaded with all kinds of emotion ranging from curiosity to fear to anger.
"Nurse Rose, could you please alert Miss Sparkle of the condition of our patient. Im sure that she's anxious to see it" The doctor said.
The nurse took one last look at me before dashing of to go and find this Sparkle lady. I looked back at the doctor who gave me a kind smile before turning away and scribbling some. After coming to my senses, I looked down and the sight that greeted me looked awful. My right leg was on a footrest, covered in bandages all the way up to hip. My right arm was bandaged up as well, though it looked much better than my leg. I also noticed the bandage across my chest.
"Didn't I say you wouldn't like what you would see?" The doctor smirked at me.
I looked back at the doctor to see that he had moved to the right side of my hospital bed and was now staring at me with two huge pairs of green eyes.
"B-b-bu" I stuttered as I finally began to recompose into my old self.
"h-how is this possible? this isn't possible. YOU aren't possible." was the one sentence I was able to get out before the doors slammed open and in walked a purple pony with wings and a horn. The doctor immediately bowed to the authority figure. I figured that this was the Sparkle lady which was supposed to come and meet me. I started backing away from the figure before she came over. I was scared out of my wits. All my thoughts were spinning around one phrase that had embedded itself into my mind; First talking ponies, then unicorns and pegasi, and now a pegacorn, or was it a unisus. As the pegacorn slowly approached me, My fear overwhelmed me.
"S-stay back. P-please dont hurt me" I pleaded with the pegacorn as I started crying.
The pegacorn looked towards me with a kind smile before speaking, "you don't have to be afraid. Im not coming to hurt you. however I do expect for you to cooperate as I am going to ask you some questions, that is if its okay?"
Figuring I didn't really have a choice in the matter, I nodded.
"Splendid, lets get right to it then" she (at least, I assumed that it was a she) said as she took out a piece of parchment, a quill and an ink bottle. How peculiar. I saw her scribbling some stuff down her parchment and I heard her mutter "It speaks Equish, amazing, and I thought that guard was lying"
"First question, what are you exactly?"
" ... "
"well go on then, answer the question. the sooner you do that, the sooner you can get out"
"I am a human, Homo Sapien to be scientific" I answered skeptically as I still needed to be cautious around these ponies."
As she wrote down my answer, I started taking in my surroundings
"Second question, who are you?"
"My name is Thomas, Thomas bucklough Polet"
The room was painted completely white with the exception of the grey door on the far wall. There was one window on my side but I was too far away to see through it. My attention was snapped back to the pegacorn who asked me yet another question.
and so, I lay there in my hospital bed, answering all of the question that the pegacorn asked me for at least half an hour before the made her utensils disappear. She started walking away from me but before she was through the door, I called her back.
"Hey um, miss ..."
"Twilight Sparkle" she said as she turned around to face me.
"Okay, miss Twilight Sparkle, I also have some questions that need answering. Like what are you? Where am I? Who are you? and what am I doing here?"
she chuckled "Well, I am an alicorn, which before you ask is an winged unicorn or a horned pegasus. you are in ponyville, in the country of Equestria, the largest and greatest off all the kingdoms and nations on the planet Equis."
I looked at her with my jaw wide open. 'a different planet?' Now I understand why she stood there flabbergasted when I told her I had told her that I was from earth.
"My name, as you already now is Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship and Element of Magic"
Royalty, I stood here in front of royalty. I was now really scared that I might do something or say something that offended her, so I attempted to bow in my hospital bed which resulted in dull pains all across my body.
"Im not one for formalities you know." she stated in slight concern as My face showed some painfull expressions.
I gratefully lay back down and looked back up at her.
"As for the last question, I don't know. I was actually hoping that you could answer that one."
I looked dismayed at her last answer but accepted nonetheless. Not like I had any other choice.
"Now I suggest you get some rest since the doctor will be here shortly to remove your bandages"
"My bandages are already coming of? Man, I must have been out for years."
"No, actually you were out for exactly five days. We used some healing spells on you and they seemed to have done their job well."
My brain couldn't handle the information that it received right then. Before I was able to react however, the doctor came in and asked the princess to leave. I unexpectedly got the overwhelming desire to back away form the suddenly frightening doctor who was using his magic on me.
"Im going to put a sleeping spell on you, don't worry, you wont feel a thing." He smiled happily.
I wanted to protest, but I could feel my eyes getting heavier by the second, soon I drooped down back on the bed and started sleeping.
"good, now this wont hurt a bit."
Dearest sister, I do not think that you should be out this night.
I know, but I cant shake the feeling that there is something going on that we don't know about.
I haven't felt that presence since the castle incident. You should really get to bed you know.
I appreciate your concern, but I do not wish to sleep just yet.
know that you can always come to me if you want to talk about it
I will, once the time is right, for now I will take to my chambers and let you rule your domain
What happened to not sleeping just yet?
I changed me mind
Don't pout at me, I know you've wanted to sleep all along. I could feel it
Huff
See you on the morrow sister
goodnight my sister
