Darkspore: The Equestrian Battlefield

The night of the meteor shower

As life beyond the stars keeps getting more and more advanced and as great nations and civilizations clash in endless battles with each other, one small country, in one small planet remains ignorant of all this and always in everlasting peace and harmony: Equestria.

This country was mainly populated by ponies (earth ponies, unicorns and pegusi) and ruled over by the celestial sisters, princesses Celestia and Luna. This country was meant to be viewed as the beacon of harmony on the planet and many neighboring nations viewed it as such. Equestria, although having gone through its fair share of evil and powerful villains causing trouble, never once suffered through any sort of war or any battle of the sorts in centuries. Of course, just as all great things don't last forever, neither does peace and harmony, and this very statement was to be proven correct one faithful night.

The night had descended over the quaint town of Ponyville, and as the stars sparkle magnificently like diamonds in the sky and as the moon watches over the land with her pale blue eyes, the townsfolk are oddly awake and gathering at the Ponyville park. Why is this happening, you may ask? Well the reason is because tonight will be a surprise meteor shower. The event was named this way, since the last meteor shower happened just recently, and the next was supposed to happen in about fifty years or so, so this came as a surprise for everyone, including the celestial princesses.

Of course, although the princesses found this to be some odd dilemma to solve, the rest of the ponyfolk were relatively excited about another meteor shower happening. And none were more excited then the newest crowned princess, Twilight Sparkle. In the beginning she was an (almost) ordinary unicorn, but after finishing a spell from the legendary unicorn wizard Starswirl the Bearded himself, she became an alicorn, and was crowned princess. And after a tone of challenges (and also defeating a crazy centaur from hell) she officially became the princess of friendship and was even given a castle of her own, which looked more like a giant tree made of crystal. But no matter how much she may have changed on the outside or may act like a 'proper' princess, she was still same old Twilight Sparkle. Meaning she still acted like a little kid at the candy store, when something fascinating appears.

And this means, right now, she's going stir crazy over the meteor shower happening soon. She even went as far as quadroople check her research equipment. Of course this lead to her number one asisstant and good friend Spike to become rather irritated.

"Ugh, c'mon already Twilight, or we're gonna miss the surprise meteor shower!"-Spike shouted, his patience having run out already, and causing the young princess to turn away from her stuff and look at him.

"Sorry Spike. It's just that I'm so excited about this upcoming meteor shower that I-"

"Yeah, yeah, I know. And so is everypony else in case you haven't noticed."-Spike interrupted her sentence as usual, but instead of being upset at her friend, Twilight merally spoke as casually as earlier.

"No, don't you understand Spike? The last meteor shower happened just recently and the next one wasn't due for at least fifty more years. I mean, even princess Celestia and princess Luna can't explain this, for pony sake!"-Twilight accidentally raised her voice due to her excitement, which didn't affect Spike in the least bit, but she then took a deep breath and continued-"So, now this gives me the chance to study this event, and provide an explination when the princesses couldn't."

"Uh-huh, yeah, that's very nice and all Twilight, but if we don't go now, then WE'RE GOING TO MISS IT!"-Spike shouted out the last part, hoping this will finally have an effect on his overexcited friend.

And surprisingly enough, it did.

"Yeah, you're right Spike, I've wasted too much valuable time getting prepared."-she said as she hauled her backpack full of her sciencey stuff onto her back-"It's time we move out!"-she said with determination

With that, Spike just smiled, realizing he finally managed to convince her to get going...until she suddenly stopped in her tracks and said:

"You know what? Maybe I should double check again, just to make sure everything is here. Better safe then sorry."

But no matter how innocently Twilight spoke, Spike just groaned so loudly, it almost seemed like he shouted, and just grabbed the princess of friendship by her right hoof and started dragging her to the intended area. All the while Twilight just stared confusadely at her friend.

The walk to the park wasn't an easy one, since Spike had to stop almost every minute or so to see if a certain purple princess was keeping up, and every once in a while he'd catch her stop and try to double check her 'equipment', and he'd just grab her hoof and literally drag her for a minute or so like a sack of potatoes.

But after what seemed like an eternity, they finally made it to the park, where they saw every pony, and I do mean EVERY PONY, from Ponyville gathered there, either sitting on park benches or lying down on picnic blankets that they brought with them.

After about a minute or so, they managed to locate their friends, who were already seated on a large picnic blanket along with the cutie mark crusaders, waiting for the two.

While Spike would have liked to make a wise-ass remark about Twilight almost making them be late, he wanted to get their spot as quickly as possible. The reason is because he wanted to see the surprise meteor shower with his crush, Rarity. He didn't have the chance to do so during the last meteor shower, so he figured he might have a chance now.

Once they they arrived and were greeted by their friends, Twilight immediately got to work, setting up her equipment, and with Spike's help, they were done in only a few seconds, with their friends marveling at how much stuff their alicorn friend brought.

"Well Ah'll be Twi. Ya sure brought a heck of a lot of stuff with ya tonight."-Applejack remarked

"Indeed darling. Why, one would say that you're going to record everything that will happen tonight."-Rarity added, ignoring the fact that Spike's been starring at her the whole time.

"Well, since Princess Celestia and Princess Luna weren't able to give an explination for this phenomenon, I thought I'd try out my luck and try to explain it myself, by documenting every moment of the meteor shower."-Twilight explained, while adjusting her telescope

"Hehehe, leave to egghead Twilight to be all sciencey at a time like this."-Rainbow Dash remarked in a wise ass manner

"Uhm...Rainbow? I-I don't think that was a nice thing to say."-Fluttershy meekly stated, while her fellow pegasus still chuckled

"Aww c'mon Flutters, You know I was just joking around."-RD said, as she wrapped a hoof around her friend's shoulders.

And before anyone else could say anything, Pinkie Pie suddenly appeared and announced-"Hey everypony! The show's starting!"

And as soon as the last words left her mouth, everyone present in the park looked up into the night sky and were at awe, as dozens upon dozens of very bright blue, almost white, colored globes fell from the heavens, with a long streak of sparkling stardust trailing each one of them.

Everypony was simply marveling at the spectacular site before them, in fact many of them would be bold enough to say that this meteor shower far exceeded all previous meteor showers they've seen in terms of magnificence and beauty. In fact if you were to look closely at everypony's eyes while they were still watching the skies, you could see that they were all sparkling, much like diamonds.

While all of her friends were enjoying the site before them, as well as eating some of the cupcakes and cookies Pinkie brought along, Twilight was busying herself collecting as much data as she can from the meteor shower as best as she could, while also enjoying the site herself.

The meteor shower lasted for another hour and a half, until finally it stopped. As soon as it did, everypony began to pack up and leave the park to get some rest. The mane six stood behind to help Twilight pack up her stuff, which oddly enough made her saddlebag seem much larger then when she had arrived.

Although while they were doing this, the five mares noticed something off about the princess of friendship: she had a frown on her face the entire time they were packing. In fact, halfway through the meteor shower, all she did was frown constantly, as if she was worried about something.

This in turn worried them as well, and so they have decided to ask their friend about it.-"Uhm Twilight? Uh we were jus' wonderin', are you alright? Ya seemed kinda...worried about something."-Applejack asked, and Twilight simply smiled and answered, though everyone could tell that her smile was deffinately forced.

"Oh yeah, don't worry Applejack, I'm totally fine. I'm just a bit tired, that's all."-Twilight said, even pointing at some circles that were forming beneath her eyes for emphasis. But being the element of honesty, Applejack knew that she was lying. But she was did have a point, in that it was extremely late, so she, as well as the others, decided to pester her about the subject tomorrow.

Once everything was packed away everypony was ready to head home, but before any of them could take a step, Spike suddenly piped up-"Hey, look over there!"-he shouted while pointing towards the sky.

While Twilight simply thought that her assisstant was just seeing things, as he had a tendency to do this when he was extremely tired, the others were in both shock and awe at what they saw. And when Twilight looked up as well, all of her suspicions diminished.

Up in the sky were eleven comets shooting down towards earth below. At first they all thought that these were some straggling meteor from the meteor shower, but upon closer inspection, they noticed something significantly different about these ones: they were all crimson red in color.

While normally the different coloring of comets wouldn't be such a big deal, the six element bearers, including Spike, could tell just by looking at these things, that something wasn't right about them. And their suspicions were proven right, when the comets did something absolutely and completely unexpected: the comets at one point, at the same time, gave off a sound reminicing to that of an explosion, and spread out flying into different directions, creating an expanding shockwave in their wake.

Now they knew FOR SURE that something wasn't right with these comets as they saw the direction in which each of them flew to: two flew directly into Canterlot Mountain possibly even shacking up the city itself, two flew towards Manehattan but instead of landing somewhere in the city they instead crashed into the ocean, one flew towards Appleloosa and landed in its orchard, one flew into the Badlands, one flew north towards the Crystal Empire but landed outside of it at the base of an icy mountain, one flew towards Smokey Mountain, one flew towards an unknown direction, and finally two of the comets flew towards areas that were quite close to them. One landed in the Everfree forest and one landed in Sweet Apple Acres.

Knowing that an object of unknown origin landed in the orchard of her very home, Applejack quickly picked up her little sister and raced towards her farm to make sure Big Mac and Granny Smith were okay. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie decided to go with her too in case she needed help. Twilight turned to Spike instructing him to send a letter to her former teacher Princess Celestia, and he did just that.

Even though she, as well as Fluttershy and Rarity wanted to help out their friend and fellow element bearer, they knew that they as well as Applejack, Rainbow and Pinkie were all extremely tired after staying up so late, and knew they needed some rest. And so, reluctantly, they went back to their homes, trusting their friends to do the same, and knowing full well that they would have to check out that comet at Applejack's home.

Deep in the Everfree forest, exactly were the comet landed, the thick pillar of smoke began to thin out and now the space rock itself was clear for all to see under the moonlight.

Only, it wasn't a rock.

It looked more like a very large orb, med entirely out of metal, with small spikes jutting out here and there. There were also cracks surrounding the sphere, probably caused by the crash landing. However after a a few moments, there was a beeping sound then, from the cracks came out steam, and the cracked parts began to part like how a lotus flower opens up, and when it completely opened up, it was revealed that something was inside the metal orb.

The strange figure was curled up and it was alive, and breathing heavily, having two tubes placed inside its mouths on either side of the pod. Nothing specific about its body could be determent duo to the heavy steam, but a minute after the pod opened, two pairs of blank, orange eyes opened where the head presumably is, and shined like the fires of hell it self.

And so begins the story of how Equestria went to its bloodiest and most violent war ever.

To be continued...

Author's Note

Well ladies and gentlemen, this is the start, or should I say re-start, of my latest crossover story idea.

I've actually wrote this story before, but it was simply horrible, and I have you guys to testify for that. So now I'm attempting to rewrite this story, and possibly make it better. Much better.

For those of you who don't know what 'Darkspore' is, and I'm pretty sure 99% of you guys here on this site don't know what it is, it's basically a darker, bloodier, and more action packed version of the original 'Spore' game. In essence its kinda, sorta like 'League of Legends', 'Smite', 'Heroes of the Storm' and all the other similar games. Except of course, just like in the creature mode in 'Spore', you can collect parts and weapons while playing, and you can also edit your heroes, using the parts that you collected.

For more information regarding this game, just go and google it and the wiki site will explain it better then me.

Well, then that's it for now, so I'll see you guys later and have a good one.
