I Kick Someone's Butt (Part 2)

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

As I walked to school, my spirits were definitely high. That was before I realized my backpack was a bit heavier than usual. I stopped, taking my backpack from my achy shoulders and set it down on the firm concrete. Unzipping my backpack, I found the book from this morning. How the heck did that get there? I shrugged it off. Weird things are already happening, why should this be any different? Still, my thoughts were beginning to swirl through my head as I put my backpack on my back again.

I finally reached the school, and could easily spot my friend Mara leaning on the wall. I waved to them as I walked over. "Hey Page! I finally watched that video that some of the school likes!" she called out. I quickly recognized the thumbnail. "That one with the ponies in it?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. Mara responded "Well, yeah, but it's not as weird as you thought! There's this Pinkie Pi-" she stops, a smile on her freckled face. "Sorry Page, I forgot you hate spoilers." I sighed and shook my head. "We should get to our classes." I informed. We said farewell and I went straight to my English class. Usually, I enjoy reading, but I have the most egotistical girl in 8th grade: Lucy.

Lucy was the 'big cheese' in our school's popular group. She's basically a attention hog. If you mess with her, you get stuck in a 6th grader's locker. Jenifer Shag learned THAT the hard way! Enough about Lucy though, this story's about me! (Yes readers, I broke the fourth wall.) Anyways...

We were all reading silently, until Lucy interuppted "This is an awkward silence, am I right?" Her cronies and half the class giggled at that. The teacher shushed them, and class continued as normal. Lucy's group was still snickering in the corner at their own jokes.

Lunch came around in what felt like seconds.  Mara and I grabbed our lunchboxes and sat at one of the less crowded tables. Mara broke the silence of us eating. "Hey Page, remember when I liked that pony video?" I responded in curiousity " Of course I do. Why do you ask?" Mara stuttered "W-well it was an un-understatement.", she leaned in closer to me, " I loved it." I almost wanted to scream 'WHAT!', but I instead questioned "So you're a fan of this pony show?" She nodded. My mouth dropped in a whirlwind of emotions, before accepting my friend's new interest. We shared a quick hug before I heard another voice join the conversation. " Dear me, Mara's finally a real loser? Now I actually have a reason to laugh!"

Mara attempted to stand up for herself, responding "Lucy, we can agree to disagree, ok?" Lucy laughed. "How about...no?"  Her cronies laughed in reply to Lucy's answer. I saw Mara tearing up,  her head on the table. I hit the table with my arm. That's it! I have tolerated Lucy for far too long now! Sure, Lucy has teased Mara for stupid things before, but this....THIS IS THE LAST STRAW! "Lucy, back off. What has Mara ever done to you?" Lucy's jaw dropped, as the whole cafeteria went silent. No one stood up to Lucy, and those who did stopped soon enough. "What did you say to me?" Most of the girls in the room looked at me, including Mara. Her freckled tear-streaken face held a faint smile that encouraged me to keep going. "I said 'What has Mara ever done to you?"' I repeated to Lucy. Lucy opened her mouth to reply, but was interuppted by the bell for next period. Saved by the bell, literally!

For the rest of the day, Lucy was quiet. However, word quickly around the school about how I stood up to her. Some of the boys would high five me in the hallways. With the way things were going, the girls would surely congratulate me for kicking Lucy's butt. Mara was over the moon after lunch.  I guess helping her out

really made her day. As cheesy as it sounds, it made mine too.

But there was no time to waste after school when a new problem arose.
