Chapters The Sad Song of Fluttershy
You walk down a crowded hallway but stop when Fluttershy blocks your path. "Um... Anon... I wrote a song." She passes a notebook to you. 'Meet me after school. We'll be heading to the animal shelter. If you don't mind, that is...' By the time you finish reading, she is gone. Should you go? You don't have anything better to do afterschool and everyone else already has plans. Seems like you have something to do, instead of jerking it to shit on the Internet.
The last bell rings, allowing everyone to burst through the doors of the school. You casually walk out and see Fluttershy near the statue. You start to approach it and waive. "Hey! Flutters!" She jumps up and looks around. When she finally sees you, she gives back a small waive of her hand. You scoff on how cute that is and meet up with her at the statue. "Sorry for that, I didn't mean to startle you."
She tries to put on a smile. "Don't worry, I'm used to it. Thank you for showing up."
"It's not a problem, there's nothing for me to do for today, so I'm all yours."
"O-oh, how great." She whispers out. You notice that she gave out some enthusiasm, but you choose to ignore that.
"Should we walk there, or take the bus?"
"It's just a few streets away, we can walk there."
"Alright, let's not waste the day." The both of you start to walk down the street. During the walk, you decide to know her a little more. "Animal shelter, huh? Makes me wonder why you're not part of PETA or something."
"Oh no, I want to actually help on where I can. Big organizations like that, well, I'm afraid of they're really helping, or just keeping it for themselves. I'm actually surprised you're not busy today."
"Yeah, not really was expecting for much. Just wanted to stay at home, relax, maybe some TV or porn."
"What was that?"
"Huh?" You realized on what you've just said. Well fucking done.
"That last part, what did you say?"
"I said... Corn. Yeah, lots of corn I need to eat." You give off a silly chuckle.
"R-right. It's nice to have you come along. I've been meaning to ask you for a while, and I've thought that, this was the right way."
"Well, you've got me." You shake your hands a little. She couldn't help but giggle at your retarded humor. "For a while?"
"Y-yes. I never had the chance to tell you in person, because, you would be with a friend or someone else. I've made this note to tell you about... You know."
"Yeah, you needed some help at the shelter, I get ya."
"N-no, it's not just tha-"
Someone walks in between you and Fluttershy and bumps both of you. "Hey! Watch where... Rainbow Dash?" She turns around and takes off her earbuds.
"Hey guys. Just wanted to do that to get your attention. Ya sure you ain't coming to practice today, Fluttershy?"
"No Rainbow Dash, not today."
"Bummer, you wanna come along, Anon?"
Just as you're about to talk, Fluttershy jumps in. "He's coming with me for today, Rainbow Dash. Both of us are going to the animal shelter and help out the poor pets who need attention."
"And that's more important than helping your friend with the band?"
"Yes, it is." Fluttershy answers boldly.
"Whatever, I'll see you guys later." She puts on her earbuds and jogs away.
"Darn Rainbow Dash, that little..."
"Come on, let's keep on walking, Flutters."
"S-sorry, it's just that, the nerve of Rainbow sometimes. Always wanting to do stuff her way. What's worse is that this band is keeping me away from helping the animals."
"Good thing that you have me, we can get a lot of work done, and we can get to know each other a little." You say to keep her focused.
"Y-yeah, about that, were you able to read my song?"
Song? It looked more like a note instead of a song.
"Flutters, wasn't that just a note?"
"Y-you didn't look past that page?"
"No, I only read the title of the book. It said you wanted to meet up afterschool."
She starts to have some kind of panic attack. "Oh dear. I though that you, you wanted to... Oh goodness."
"Hey, hey. Calm down, there's nothing to worry about."
"There is! I thought that you wanted to..." She starts hyperventilating.
"Calm down, come on now. What was it that you wanted?"
"J-just r-read th-the b-book."
"Not yet. I'm getting you to the animal shelter." You set each hand on her shoulders. "Relax now. Take deep breaths. I'm not calling an ambulance when the animal shelter is just down the street. Just take deep breaths now." She inhales and exhales slowly. It goes on for a few more cycles. "Better now?"
She nods. "Mmhmm."
"Good, let's continue walking over there, we can talk about the song another time."
"The song?!" She hyperventilates again, even harder than before.
"Now breathe! Fucking breathe!" She tries, but it looks like she's a fish out of water. For some odd reason, you tightly hug her. She doesn't move, or even breathe for a while. You feel her exhale, getting the oxygen back in a good flow. You pat her on the back and let go. When you try to back away, she still hugs you. "Uhh, Fluttershy?"
"Oh! Sorry! Sorry!" She jumps back and crosses her arms. Cute and weird. "This way, we'll talk later."
"Fine by me."
The Sad Song of Fluttershy
Chapter 2: A Helping Hand
She unlocks the door and walks in. The entire building then flares up with sounds. What you can hear in the darkness is barks, meows, and wings flapping. "Hold on, I'll get the light." You hear her shoes hitting the floor. Sounds like it's tile. The fluorescent lights flicker on, few of them continue on flickering. When you get a better view of the store, makes you feel unwelcome. The baby blue walls are chipped, the floor tile floor is cracked or missing a piece, and a few of the cages are rusty. This place looks barely livable for anyone or anything. "Everyone, calm down. This is a friend." May of the animals stop hitting or scratching their cages and start moping. If you were to guess, they're begging. "Sorry about that, they aren't used to people other than me here."
"Yeah, I can tell." You walk along with her and get deeper in the store. As you walk by the cages, the dogs whimper or scratch the door. The scratching isn't to frighten you, but rather, they want to get out. What the hell is going on? "Fluttershy, what's wrong with them?"
She stops and looks down. "They want to be adopted." That's pretty obvious. "This place, they never get used to it."
"It's better than the streets, right?" You question the standards for the animals.
"For a few of them, yes. Others prefer to stay in an alleyway in the city." Refusing a roof and place to eat? That's just messed up. You look around in each cage. The food bowls look like they're full, and the water looks like it's half empty.
"What's up with their food? It looks like they never touched it."
"I usually overfeed them, just in case of something happens, like band practice." Makes sense, since Rainbow tried to push it to us earlier. "Please, follow me." You do so and look at the cages passing by. Each dog or cat you pass seem to either be excited or worried. Looks like people don't come here often.
"Fluttershy, how often does this place get volunteers?"
She stops again. You see her hands clench into fists. "Y... you're the only one." She chokes on her own words.
You walk over and rest a hand in her shoulder. "Come on, others came over right?" Fluttershy immediately turns around and clutches you. Her face is buried into he center of your chest.
"You're the only one who ever came!" She muffles into your shirt. You decided to let her sob into your cotton shirt and comb over her hair with your hand. This went on for a few minutes while the crying slowly dies down. As it finally was just a few sniffles, you thought of something to keep her distracted.
"Hey, how about we finally help the animals?"
Fluttershy didn't make a sound when you said that. "That's... Not the reason why I brought you over." She releases you from her pity hug and heads into the back room. You follow her into it, regardless if it does creep you out. It looks like a room for a young girl. Some plush animals on the bed, a desk with a mirror, pretty much stuff for a teenage girl, only more rundown.
"Do you live here?" She ignores your question, and walks over to a door beside her bed. It reveals to contain a bunch of supplies. Tiles, paint cans and brushes, hot glue gun, light bulbs, all the necessary stuff to make this place back up in shape.
"I've invested so much into this place. Even if I live here, it's not enough time to get me started on it." She sits on the side of her bed.
"What about your family?" Almost on cue, she cries onto her hands. That already tells you enough about her relations with them. You walk over and sit beside her. "I'm sorry to ask. I didn't know that you were all alone this entire time."
"I'm always alone!" Fluttershy wraps her hands around her pink hair. You laid a hand on the side of her waist and let her tilt a little to you.
"I'll be here. I'll help out the best that I can." Her hands slide out of her hair and she looks up to face you.
"You, won't leave me?"
You put a hand under her chin and use the other to wipe a tear away from her face. "I'll always be around." A small smile cracks the side of her check. She lays her head on the side of your arm. How cute. Too bad you have to ruin this for something. That something is, what is up with the song she gave you? What's so important about it? You will hold onto that for later. Right now, you want to help her out with whatever you can. "You want some help with changing a few lights?"
She shines those lovely blue eyes at you. "You, want to h-help?"
You chuckle."Isn't that the reason on why I'm here?"
"Well, n-not entirely." She sheepishly rubs the back of her neck. "C-can we discuss this, maybe later?" Cute, weird, and strange.
"Sure, the lights won't change themselves."
Both of you give out a half-assed laugh and get up. "You're really great Anon."
"Nah, I just help those who need it."
"Oh, uh, okay then." She mumbles out. You walk past her and start to get a light bulb and a screwdriver.
After you tighten the last bolt, you look down to see Fluttershy smiling. "There, that's the last one."
"Thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it since, I can't go higher than the first step."
"It's not a problem, learned it from my dad." You say while putting the screwdriver away.
"What does he do?"
"Electrician, I tag along when it's the weekend." You get off at the final step and set the screwdriver aside. Just as you do, she wraps her arms around you.
"You're so brave, Anon."
"Come on, it's just a few light bulbs."
"No, I mean it. Staying here, not afraid of anything, not even if the lights might explode or afraid of falling from such a hight."
"Fluttershy, I was only five feet off the ground."
"I can't even imagine how it would look up there." You shake your head and stop when your phone goes off. You get it out to check that it is a message. it's your mom, saying "Where are you?"
"Is everything alright?" Fluttershy asks.
"Yeah, just need to send a quick message." You send a message back. 'Helping out a friend, might come home late.' You put it back in your pocket and see that Fluttershy is concerned at something.
"Do, you need to go?"
"No, I can stay a little longer."
"A-are you sure? I don't want you to get in trouble or anything."
"Don't worry, my parents are usually fine with it."
"Oh, okay then." Your stomach grumbles. You had to skip out lunch today. Then again, it was taco Tuesday. Actual shit in a shell, and yet Sonata is able to stand that crap. "A-are you hungry? I know a place down the street."
"Sure, I can go for a bite."
"Eee! I'll get dressed." She runs back into her room. You decided to start to put the stuff away buy folding the ladder up and setting it aside at a corner. The screwdriver is beside it, now all that leaves is the box filled with these worn out light bulbs. It's best to just leave it on the counter for now, you can barely thing with this damn stomach smacking you a bit. "Okay, I'm ready." She comes back out, wearing a dark blue dress and matching shoes.
"Woah."
"Oh dear, I should have worn something a little more simpler. Is it too much?" You look on how it's a little shorter than her usual green skirt. "I'll go change real fast."
"It's great, I like it." She blushes while playing with her hair. "Come on, let's go for that restaurant."
The Sad Song of Fluttershy
The both of you take a small walk down the street. You can see the sun sinking in the horizon, letting a few stars to shine in the sky. "You might like this place. The people there are nice and the food is very good."
To you, it already sounds better than a Denny's. "Must be quite a place."
"It is, especially the environment is very calm and soothing." The both of you stop at a restaurant at the corner of the street. It doesn't have a name posted anywhere on the outside. "Here it is." You walk in and hold the door for her. "Oh, t-thank you."
Doesn't it feel nice to do some good shit once in a while? As you close the door, you look around the place. The walls are a vanilla color, along with a few nineteenth century paintings hanging on them. The tables have a black cover on them, with a candle or two lit on the center of the table. There is some soft jazz music playing in the background. Why does this restaurant feel a little out of the ordinary? "Hello, and welcome to Little Italy, may I- oh! It's good to see you, Fluttershy!" A female waiter comes by and holds a set of menu handouts.
"Hi Alice, table for two please."
"Ah, nice to know that you've finally got one!" Wait, what did she mean by that? "The both of you go right in and pick any table. I'll be right with you in a minute." The waiter than winks while you follow Fluttershy into the restaurant.
"Oh! There's my usual table." She points at the farthest one in the corner. You wonder if that's really her regular, or they just give that one to her.
"How about we try a different one for today?" You suggest.
"B-but that's the first table they gave me, and I've always eaten there since."
Something tells you that this place is controlled by assholes. "I think it's time to get out of your comfort zone, don't you think?"
"I-I suppose it wouldn't hurt." You lead the way and find a table in the front, right next to the stage playing the music.
"A-Anon! In the front?"
"Yeah, didn't you ever wanted to hear the music up close?"
"W-well, I-I do." You pull back her chair and push it in when she sits down. "O-oh, thank you." You take your seat and look around the restaurant. There are a few people that are eying you and Flutters. Their conversations turn into mumbling gossip.
You're able to make out a few words from the crowd. "Hey, isn't that the girl that eats by herself in the corner?" "Why is he going out with her?" "I've heard that girl has some kind of autism." Prestigious assholes.
"A-Anon? C-can w-we sit somewhere else?" Her shaken voice irritates you. She must have heard the whispers around the restaurant. The horrible part is that they won't stop. You look at the couples around and have an idea.
"No, we're staying here." You turn around to face most of them.
"Calm down. I... actually went out with you because of a bet I lost with Rainbow Dash." His date tells him. Bulk is about to say something, but he just slumps into his chair. Everyone else who witnessed this, just went back to their normal conversations or continued eating. The guy with a meatball stuck on his zipper gets up to run for the restroom.
"W-wow Anon."
"Sorry about that outburst. They need to be told off."
The waitress from the entrance that greeted you comes in. "I see that both of you are getting used to the new table. Here's the menu, I'll come back with your drinks, what would you like them to be?"
"Just water." You ask.
"Water would be nice."
"Okay then, I'll be out shortly." Alice walks off and goes into the kitchen.
"Do you come here often?" You ask out of curiousity. She clearly does, but why?
"Yes, I do. Their salads and soups really hit the spot for me." In some way, you're not surprised by that. It would explain her thin figure, but not those thighs. Just ignore it and stay relaxed. You look at the menu and see a high amount of calories for anything on a simple dish. Now you understand why she would rather stay on the side dish. Skipping out lunch today, you might as well try to catch up.
"Here are your drinks, are you two ready?" The waitress asks wen pulling out a notebook.
"Um, I'll just have the salad."
She writes down her order and looks at you. "And what about you sir?"
You look at the menu and look at the spaghetti and meatballs. After that guy running away to clean up, you'll avoid this one. "Chicken Alfredo."
"Are you two enjoying your meals?" She comes back to ask the two of you.
"As usual, it's wonderful." Fluttershy speaks while wiping her mouth on a napkin.
"How about you, sir?"
You play the soaking noodles around with your fork and jab into a slice of chicken. "It's actually pretty good." It is, the only problem is that the oil and grease is saturating it.
"If you two need anything else, I'll be walking around."
"Thank you, Alice." She walks off to clean up a nearby table. "I must say, I've never enjoyed coming here before. Thank you for coming along with me."
"Like I said, it's not a problem." You reply while twirling your for around. Fluttershy puts down the napkin and continues eating her salad. Just seeing it makes you crave for something healthy. You're starting to regret this decision and desire a piece of green to make the sluggish feeling go away. When you look at the plate, it barely looks any different from what it was twenty minutes ago.
"Are you alright, Anon?"
You avert your attention t her. "Oh, yeah. Why?"
"W-well, it's just, you barely touched your food."
"I guess I'm already full." She scoots over to toss some celery into your plate. From where you're sitting, her cleavage is kind of hard too miss. You look at your plate to drown out the temptation. "That's fine, thanks."
"O-okay then." Fluttershy goes back in her seat and resumes to eat her salad slowly. You jab your fork in a batch of lettuce and start to eat it. It tastes fairly good, compared to when you were eating pure fat. You wonder if you should believe everything that your parents say or what is bullshit for the future. "Feeling better?"
"Mmhmm." You mumbled out while swallowing it. "Hey, do you think we should go back? It's kind of getting late."
"Are you sure? We could try out the desserts." She suggests, almost as if she wants to stay for a little longer.
It sounds promising, but after that meal is a risk you won't take right now. "Maybe another time, I'm pretty stuffed on the food today."
"Okay, m-may we get the check, please?" Alice comes over and sets it on the table. You grab out your wallet and search for the right amount. "Anon, I-I'll pay for it."
"Nah, I got this. Besides, mine is more expensive."
"B-but I'm the one that brought you over and besides, I should repay the nice things that you've done for me today."
"It's fine. There's nothing that you need to owe me." You set down a few tens and ask Alice to get you a box to take your untouched dinner home. She goes back and hands you a small, black box. "Thank you." You pour it in and close the box. "Are you ready to go?"
"Mhmm." The both of you start to walk away from the table and start to walk out the door.
"Hey you two!" Alice is shouting and waiving at you. Once she catches up, she opens up her hands to have some mints wrapped in a white and green wrapper. "Here, I forgot to put these on the tray." You and Fluttershy take two. "It's nice to see you again, Fluttershy. Sure hope you come back with your friend."
"I hope I do, it's nice to have him around."
"He sure is, have a good night you two." Just as you're about to walk away, the waitress grabs your arm. "Hold up, I need to talk with you for a moment." You turn back around to meet eye-to-eye with the mid twenties waitress. "Kid, I've seen you in there, and I will say this; you're not bad. Standing up for your girl, is a good show on being a boyfriend." Did she just say boyfriend?! "But don't think that I didn't see you peaking at her chest. Don't fuck it up, and don't even think about hurting her, or else you may as well be mystery meat." Now you might want to keep that in thought and call that as a death threat. "Just treat her right, OK? She's a sweet girl, and I don't want her to go through on what I did." Alice sounds depressed as she tells you this, possibly a shitty boyfriend she had before? "You look like a good guy, and I just want to give you a good understanding on what you're doing, alright?" You're not even doing anything! You just nod and keep a straight face. "Good to know. Also, I gave her a corner booth, mainly to save embarrassment like that. You wouldn't believe on how often people get ripped on, just because they are eating by themselves. Finally, you should keep a nice shirt in your backpack. It wouldn't hurt to get a step forward in case if you come back."
"OK, thanks for the advice." You thank her while keeping a straight face.
"Anytime. Go along, we wouldn't want her disappointed, now do we?"
"Yeah, you got it." She lets go of you and gives off a waive and a smile to you.
The Sad Song of Fluttershy
You exit the restaurant and meet up with Fluttershy standing outside. "Is everything alright?" She asks. You don't know if you should tell her about this. Boyfriend, playing around, Fluttershy being attractive; seriously, you're losing track of everything from one small talk to a waitress. "A-Anon?"
"Oh, kind of, don't worry about it."
"Are you sure? You were in there for a while." She asks once more.
"I might tell you about it later. We should go back to the animal shelter." You start to walk down the street, allowing her to catch up.
"A-are you sure you couldn't tell me on the way?" It's probably best not to tell her most of it, you wouldn't want to jeopardize everything.
"Alice just told me to bring some spare clothes next time. I look pretty awful with what I'm wearing, and the dust isn't making it any better."
Fluttershy furrows an eyebrow. "You were in there for more than a minute. Are you sure it's just that?" That didn't elude much. Still, it might be too early to come clean.
"I can't tell you yet, there's just something I need to get cleared out."
She's agitated by your choice of words. "What's not to get? You can tell me anything Anon. You've listened to my problems, and I think its best that I can listen to yours."
"Fluttershy, it's nothing much to work over on."
"I want to give back something. I just, want to help you out, even if it's the slightest." She just won't drop this. It's starting to irritate you, but you already know best to never take it onto her. Even though if it might ruin a good friendship, it could be best to tell Flutters on what happened back there.
"What she mainly told me is that... Well, get this, is just that... we're kind of a couple. In her eyes, that is."
Her face isn't changed by anything. She just looks at you, confused. "I, kind of thought that..."
You stop and look at her. "So you knew about this?"
"I didn't get it at first when she said that you were a 'keeper' or that when she winked, but the way you stood up for me against those jerks, well, it felt like you were someone who would like me for who I am. If its worth anything, I think that we can be a cute couple." That's something that you didn't expect. She grabs a hold of your hand. "Wouldn't you agree, Anon?"
You assume that you passed out from the Chicken Alfredo back inside the restaurant and that this is some sort of fixed dream. A small squeeze on her hand indicates that this is all too realistic to be the sorts. "I wouldn't mind giving it a shot." Fluttershy’s eyes shine with hope, along with a smile to match. You smile back and resume walking down the sidewalk with her while still holding hands.
The both of you make it back to the animal shelter, or rather; her home. Once she turned on the lights, none of them had any trouble staying on. You really are going to thank dad for this one. "I must say, today has been very great."
"I can't argue here. A lot of things happened, all because of a simple note."
Fluttershy lets go of your hand. "Oh, right. Um, c-can I have it back?" You may as well, she probably needs it more than you do. For all you know, it could be her only copy.
"Yeah, it's in my backpack." You start heading for the back of the store.
"I-I can get it, you don't need to worry."
"Flutters, it's best that I get it out. I have a lot of junk in my bag, you'll be looking through so much crap."
"It's not a problem, r-really!" She makes it to the doorway and blocks it.
"Okay, come on now. It's just a song Fluttershy."
"B-but it's something that I made!" Damn, she's really beating herself on this. Could it be that terrible?
"Fluttershy, you wanted me to read it since the beginning of today and now you don't want me to read it? What's going on?"
She looks away and bites her bottom lip. "It's best if you don't read it." Shit, it must be that bad.
"Flutters, a lot of things happened all because of this song, if it wasn't for that, who knows what would've been today." She looks around, avoiding eye contact with you. "Just let me look at it, at least for a little while. I promise to give it back to you." You can see her bottom lip still getting it, but she's probably giving it more pressure.
"After you're done reading it, nothing will change between us?"
As if a song could do much. "It will not, believe me." Even if it is bad, you'll try to hold back the criticism. You'll need to give it some, just so that it doesn't go to the public, while saying it's decent or great. Better to hurt her a little now, instead of letting it build up and crashing it down on her.
"Okay." She moves away from the doorway.
You walk in and grab your backpack from beside the bed. "Whatever it is, it can't be that bad." You sit down on her bed, and unzip the biggest pocket. Fluttershy sits beside you and starts to chew on her fingernails. "Are you sure you want to do that? There won't be any left to let you paint on." She looks at her fingers then puts them on the bed. You take out the purple cover with the green spine on it. There's the yellow box title of it, with the message you've read earlier today. As you look to the side, you can see Fluttershy's hand is clutching in the bed sheets. You open up the book to see the first page and start reading. So far, it's not too bad. What does get you is that this sounds disappointing.
'Afraid, alone, no one in this world to share my pain. Beaten, blamed, all alone in damp, cold rain.' You don't even want to go past this point, so you close the book. "I-it was t-that b-bad?" She stutters out. In the corner of your eye, you've just noticed her hand is shaking. You tap your fingers on the plastic cover and wonder how you should go though on this.
"It's just... depressing. It describes how you're damaged mentally and emotionally."
Her hand stops shaking. She starts to let go of the bed sheets. "T-that was the song?"
"Yeah, wasn't that the one you wanted me to read?" She looks at you and then the book. Something is going on. "Sorry about that, I'll be leaving in about half an hour." That happy look quickly turned down on her.
"B-but, so soon?"
"Flutters, its night fall. I really think I should go soon." As you're about to walk into the back, she grabs your arm.
"Maybe... maybe you could stay for a little longer?"
"I'm sorry but I really should get home. I don't want to upset my parents on staying over." You try to walk, but she grabs your arm again.
Both of her hands are really gripping on your arm, while she tries to anchor herself on the tiles. "What about... what if you could sleep over here for the night?"
"Sorry, my parents wouldn't allow that, not to a person they barely even know." You keep on walking while she is sliding on the floor. Just when you pass the doorway, she lets go. Oh thank- Fluttershy then piggybacks on you by surprise. "Flutters, what are you doing?"
"Trying to stop you from leaving?"
"You're awfully light here. What are you, one-thirty?"
"I'm actually a hundred and fifteen." For a senior, that's petite as fuck. You walk over to the bed and sit down. She lets go and crawls off. "Please, don't go."
You grab your bag, put your boxed dinner inside of it and zip it up. "I really am sorry, but rules are rules. I can't go against my family."
"What if you stay here?"
She can't be serious. "That's really funny, Flutters." Her furrowed eyebrows and that stare going into your eyes tell otherwise. There is no way you can doubt on how determined she is about this now. "Fluttershy, I can't do that."
"Why not? We... we could run off! Yes! Start another animal shelter in a different city! No one could tell us anything, and we would always have each other every day!" Has she really lost it? Remember; you are the only one who could cheer her up now.
You grab hold of her by the waist and try to straighten her out. "I would never abandon you, OK? There might be times that I can't be there, but I will always support you."
She just looks into your eyes while you do the same to hers. "Do you promise?" It’s like she's asking if gravity exists.
"I promise." You let go of her and look back at the purple notebook. While you grab it, she just stays there, watching you turn through it. You start to read aloud her small song. "You're over there, I'm over here. You're the one who steals the show. And I'm the one to watch it go. When will you take me in, And let me be with you? My dear."
