Forsaken Friends
The Third Day
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"3 days! 3 days working on this stupid crate and not even a hint of damage left on it!" You scream out. You are on the edge of starvation from this constant determination for a fucking wooden box.
"A-Anon, I r-really think y-you should reconsider this." Fluttershy flies over to you while holding a coconut.
"This damn box will be open!" You continue to scream as you get closer and hug the box. "Tell me, box. Why? Why are you so stubborn? What mysteries are hidden beneath your oak chafed layers? Hmm? TELL ME!"
Fluttershy raises the a coconut and tries to hide behind it. "P-please Anon. S-stop this."
Your attention turns to the cowering mare. "Oh I'll stop. As soon that I found out what's inside! Now tell me, WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!"
She drops the coconut and flies over to hide on top of the crate. "Anon, t-this isn't like you. You must stop this and... what is this?" She grabs a rope from the top of the crate and reveals it's existence.
You stare at what you hope it could be. "Quick, hand it over." She lowers it to you. Grab & pull down with all your weight and remaining energy. Laugh maniacally while you hear the nails giving out.
"Anon, w-will you stop this behavior w-when your done?"
"Yeah, sure. Just as soon as-" The side gives out and releases it's containments. "At last! It's... tools and kitchen utilities?" You bend down to grab a pot in one hand and a hammer in the other.
"Well, at least we have what's inside, right?" Fluttershy says to lighten the reward. You fall on your knees and cry in shame. Fluttershy gets off of the crate and stands right next to you. "Don't be too hard on yourself." She rests a hoof on your shoulder. "You finally got it open and that's what you always wanted."
"I wanted something USEFUL, not this crap that won't do anything!" You hear her walk away as you continue crying in your hands. She comes back with that coconut she dropped. You let the coconut poke you a couple of times. After a while, you look up and see a cheery smile on her dirty face. Suddenly you get an idea. You drop the tools and hug her. She doesn't make a sound and only returns the hug. Let go of her and look around for the tools that come into mind.
"What are you looking for?"
"Aha!" You exclaim while grabbing out the hammer you were holding in one hand and a screwdriver in the other. "The right tools to crack open our lunch." You run over to Fluttershy and sit down. "Quick, set the face of the coconut up." She does so and backs away. Rest the screwdriver in one of the hairy oval eye. Twist and jab it to make a hole. Once done, raise the coconut and drink. "Yes! Finally!" Keep on draining the juice from the coconut. Once you're sure it's empty, rest it on a piece of wood. Throw away the screwdriver, and grab out the hammer. Rest the head over the coconut. Raise your arm up, and thrust it down. It makes solid contact, causing the coconut to split into two. "IMMUNITY!"
You go over your fourth coconut by scraping off the insides with a spoon. You watch your partner digging deep into her fifth coconut. It's insane on how they need more food than you, even if they are smaller. But still, doesn't mean it's no excuse to survive. Now the both of you have food, and that's all that matters for now.
"Anon?"
"Yeah Flutters."
"M-May I have, another?" She asks while pushing the empty coconut away. You reach over the stack of coconuts Fluttershy picked out. Pretty insane that she did this all by herself, despise her fear of heights. Seems like anyone can pass their weaknesses in times like this. You grab a ripe one and roll it over to her. "Thank you."
"Not a problem." You reply and continue on eating your coconut, while Fluttershy tries to open her own. She just taps the hammer on the face of the coconut. "Here, let me try."
"No, I got it." She just continues on tapping it with the face of the hammer.
"Flutters, let me do it."
"I can do it, I know it." She keeps on the same pace and force from before. You reach over and snatch the hammer from her. "H-Hey!"
"You're not doing it right, let me do it." You say while centering the coconut.
"I can do it on my own!" She flies over and tries to take the hammer from you. "I can, handle, myself."
"Not on this, one. Just-"
"No! I'm capable of helping myself!"
You let go and see her fall back. As she's pushed by her own force, the hammer flies out of her hooves and hits the coconut standing. It splits down into two by impact.
"Damn... I guess you can do it."
She gets up. You noticed that she is peeved at you. "Because YOU helped me."
"No, that was all you. I just let go." You try to reason with her.
"And if you didn't let go, that wouldn't have happened." She argues.
"That just slipped out of- Just, forget this, I'm going for a walk." You say while getting up to walk around the edge of the island. You are approaching the part of the island with the most rubble. Ignore the scene and walk over the items until you trip over something sticking out of the ground. You sit up and loom over what you tripped over. It's not a part of the ship. Grab whatever it is and pull. It feels smooth and not really sharp or out of place. You bring it out of the ground and feel it completely. It's a bottle of wine. This made it all the way out here?
"Anon?" You hear Fluttershy's voice from behind. You turn around and put the bottle on the ground.
"Oh, hey. How come you're over here? Shouldn't you watch the fire?"
"I came over to apologize to you, until I saw that." She points over to the imported bottle.
"I said when we make it out of this island, I'll stop."
"But must you really? This is not the time." She aggravatingly says to persuade you.
"Well, with the chances of being found in the middle of the sea, it sounds like the perfect time to get lost." You say while trying to get the cork out of the bottle.
"Fine, be that way. Don't come crawling to me when you're crying about an upset stomach." She turns around and heads back to the camp.
You stop what you're doing to look at the bottle and think about this. You've went through shit for these 3 days. Hacking out the limited number of food doesn't sound much of a good idea.
"You're right... this is a horrible idea." Fluttershy stops walking.
"I am?" She turns around and walks back to you.
"Yes... This has been runing my life for years. It's time for me to quit." You get up to walk into the water. As it gets higher and higher, let the water sway by you. Just as the water is up to your waist, you stop and look at the vanishing sun. With some attempt, you chuck the bottle into the sea and never see it again. Head back on the island to see a stunned Fluttershy.
"I... I can't believe..." She says while looking for the bottle out in the distance.
"That I just did that? It's how people finally make a stand from where I come from." You walk past her to head back to the camp sight. Look back to see her still out there, watching the waves move side-to-side. She doesn't even budge until you say something.
"You coming?"
"Y-Yeah..." She still keeps her head aimed at the ocean while walking to you.
"Come on, there's nothing out there. At least for now." You inform her with an arm wrapped around her neck.
