PROLOGUE

“I’m sorry Rare’, but this just isn’t working out,”

Rarity jaw dropped lightly, her pupils shrinking to such a small size it seemed as if they were just pinpricks on her irises.

“W-What do you mean it’s not working out? We’ve only been dating for five weeks now!” She stammered, trying not to yell.

Across from her, Flash Sentry stood, leaning against the alley wall with his hands shoved down his pockets. He showed nothing but apathy, his eyes glazed over, mouth curled into a frown. Flash had been taking her out on a ‘date’ to Sugar Cube Corner, but midway said they needed to talk and took Rarity to the alley.

Her silver knuckles turned white as she clutched her purse tighter. Rarity was relieved he didn’t try raping her, but still this wasn’t good. Not at all.

“It’s just if me and my band are gonna get famous, I can’t be dating people like you,” He shrugged.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you’ve been gettin’ awfully fat.”

His words were like a gunshot through her brain, leaving her standing there in pure shock. She didn’t even blink as he walked off as if nothing happened.

Soon, tears began to run down her cheeks, and Rarity began to ran off in the opposite direction sobbing.

-

“Scootaloo, what is that?”

“What is what?”

“That!”

Scootaloo looked in the direction Sweetie Belle was pointing, down at the bowl of gunky, bubbly mash potatoes.

“Mash potatoes, obviously!” She scoffed.

Applebloom walked over, holding a tray of perfectly made cookies. “Uh, what’s that?” She pointed to the cup of dark brown, boiling liquid in Sweetie’s hands.

“Cereal!”

They stared at her for a moment, before the little cowgirl shook her head. “Anyways, want a cookie?”

The others nodded, reaching out to snatch a treat.

Suddenly Rarity burst through the door, sobbing hysterically. “Oh Sweetie, I had the most horrible day!” She walked to her little sister and squeezed her tightly in her arms. “Hold me.”

“Uh, Rarity? What happened?”

“F-Flash dumped me!” She wailed.

The crusaders all rose a brow, going from curious and concerned to unamused.

Rarity wiped her eyes, turning to Applebloom. “Are those sugar cookies?”

“Uh yeah-”

“Thank you!” Suddenly, the whole tray had been swiped from her hands, as Rarity ran to her room.

The girls all looked at eachother..

“So, how bout we make popcorn instead?” Scootaloo offered, seeing her fellow crusaders ready to murder Rarity for kidnapping their cookies.

-

Rarity slammed the door behind her and put the tray on the bed, sniffling softly. “I can’t believe he’d do this to me,” She murmured, popping a cookie into her mouth as she started to disrobe.

Once she was only in her underwear, she popped a few more of the little biscuits into her mouth and walked to the mirror. She looked down towards her waist. She’d have the body of a top model, if not for the doughy roll of fat hanging over her waistline.

Rarity cringed, pinching the fat. “How haven’t I noticed this before?”

Tears began to sprout in her eyes.

“Oh god, have the others noticed too?  Why haven’t they said anything about this?!” Rarity exclaimed to herself, chomping down on another cookie. “What if I can’t lose weight? What if I never get another boyfriend again?!” She ate more and more until all there was left to grab were itty bitty crumbs.

Licking the crumbs off of her fingers, she stood up and walked to the door, “I hope there’s still some ice cream left..” She murmured.
