“They’ve found us” Sapphire whispered, her breath quickening in a worried panic.
She extended her hoof to the foal beside her. “Run”. She breathed in her ear.

The pair trotted away from their current position, not looking back. The candle light quickly went out and they left it behind in the dust.

Running through darkness. pure, darkness. Only the faint outline of trees allowing them to navigate around them. It was like going on through an endless circle. Nowhere to hide. The only option was to run.

Finally stopping, Sapphire and the little filly looked at their dark surroundings. The cold night air breezing through their coats.

The young filly gave a soft whimper.

“Hey, shh shh, its alright. Everything will be OK”. Sapphire reassured the poor foal.

“I-I’m scared”. The filly said giving Sapphire a reproachable look.

“I know. And I am too. But you must listen to me, and listen well. I will keep you safe. Nothing in all of Equestria will hurt you”.

The filly nodded in approval of this statement. Her breathing quieting.

Silence fell.

They were alone.

“I think we’re safe..” Sapphire continued, breaking the silence. “Follow me”. She said warily trotting into the thick trees.

Sapphire and the young foal trotted onwards, looking back and forth keeping an eye out for any guards.

Sapphire let out a deep exasperated sigh.” we’re here”. She smiled looking up at a small cave hidden in the tall mountain above.

“Come on”, she smiled to the filly her gentle voice calling her.

Now at the entrance to the cave, The young mare had a closer look. The cave was dark, damp, and dirty. Rugged stones poked out from the sides and edges, and deeper inside there seemed to be a small light becoming, and echoing warmth.

“Come now”. Sapphire reassured the nervous foal taking her by the hoof and entering the cave.

“Sapphire!” cheered a happy group of ponies of all kinds. Earth ponies, Unicorns, even Pegasi were huddled together around the warmth of the beckoning fire.

“Y-you came back!” cried a teary foal, jumping into Sapphires arms, embracing her in a hug.

“Of course I did, do you really think I would leave my little brother behind?” she laughed nuzzling the young foal gently.

“Who’s that?” said a nervous looking filly pointing in the other fillies direction.

“Oh thats-” Sapphire paused.

“Hey, I never did catch your name”. she continued looking down at the now flustered filly.

“My name is Amethyst”. The filly replied anxiously. "And- I.." She paused. Tears streamed down the fillies face staining her light purple coat. She ran off, painful memories filling her head with pain.
