The Present
Load Full StoryNext ChapterTwilight heard a soft knock on the door that interrupted her studies. She was slightly annoyed at this fact but still made her way through the cluster of books scattered around the library. She tripped over a stack that she hadn't noticed which made her slam into the door.
It swung outward barely avoiding a white unicorn. Twilight winced at the sudden light in her eyes.
"Twilight! Are you alright?" Rarity asked.
"Yes. I'm fine, I just tripped that's all." said Twilight shielding her eyes from the sun.
"Have you been studying all night again?" Rarity asked suspiciously.
"How can you tell?" asked Twilight half shocked.
"First, you have horrible bags under your eyes. Second, You're trying to block the sun which means you're been in the dark for a while." explained Rarity.
"Ok. Why are you here?" Twilight asked.
"I wanted to return the book you let me borrow and I brought you a present." she said excitedly.
"Thanks for bringing the book back." Twilight said as Rarity handed the present and book to her.
"Aren't you going to open the present?" Rarity asked as Twilight started to trot back inside.
"Yeah as soon as I clean up. I can't make more mess by adding the wrapping to the mess." Twilight explained.
"Ok, are you still coming to the spa this afternoon?" asked Rarity as Twilight almost had the door shut.
Twilight silently cursed herself for forgetting.
"Of course I am." Twilight answered while finally shutting the door.
She peered through the window next to the door to make sure that Rarity was walking away. She then set the book and present on a table then started to clean up.
She finally returning each book to the proper place on the proper shelf, including the one Rarity returned. She took a sip of water as she picked up the present Rarity had given her deciding to see what it was.
She expected it to be some new design Rarity had come up with but whatever it was felt to hard to be any clothing . article. It was rectangle shape wrapped in pink paper, tied together with a lavender ribbon.
She then carefully removed the ribbon and unwrapped the paper discarding it into the nearby trash can. She lifted the present, book to be exact, and read the beautiful writing on the cover.
"Spells for Inquisitive Ponies."
Twilight was now curious. She had come to believe she owned all the normal spell books for unicorns but this proved her wrong.
She flipped to the contents. She looked over them recognizing a few but the others she had never seen. She realized she knew none of these spells.
She looked to see how much time she had before the spa.
"Oh my i'm going to be late!" Twilight exclaimed.
She ran out the door bringing the book along to examine it.
She made it the spa just in time and made her way to her friends.
"Oh, Twilight, I see you opened your present!" exclaimed Rarity.
"Thank you very much for it. I was surprised to find out I never heard of the book." Twilight said.
"It was actually a gift from all of us but since I had to return that book on fashion, I delivered the gift." Rarity said.
"Well thank you to everypony." Twilight said.
"You're welcome!" the rest of the ponies exclaimed in unison.
"What's the present for?" Twilight asked curiously.
"For your birthday!" exclaimed Pinkie.
"Pinkie my birthday was a month ago." Twilight laughed.
"Well we all wanted to get you another gift." Pinkie explained.
"Well thank you again." Twilight said.
"You're welcome." They said in unison again.
Twilight made her way to the massaging table bringing the book along. She kept it levitated in front of her as she laid on her stomach and read through the contents again.
She then practiced a simple relaxation spell on the masseuse resulting in her immediately falling asleep. A couple of minutes late the masseuse woke up dazed.
"I'm terribly sorry." Twilight said apologetically.
When Twilight finally arrived home she relaxed in a chair and practiced more spells.
She had already learned 10 new spells when she started to flip through exhausted from all the effort of learning the new spells.
"Spike! Spike! Where are you?" Twilight called out.
The dragon grumbled down the steps obviously still half asleep.
"Have you been sleeping all day!?" Twilight questionably exclaimed.
"No." Spike said trying to lie.
"Spike, Did you do any of you chores?" Twilight asked disapprovingly.
"No." he said attempting to lie again.
"Spike, I needed those done today! Just go back to bed! I'll do them myself!" Twilight exclaimed.
He happily complied by climbing the stairs and snuggled in his basket.
Twilight was so angry that she had completely forgotten about the book and she started to work on the chores. She had lost track of time and didn't finish the chores til early in the morning.
"Where did I set my book?" Twilight pondered.
She searched everywhere in the library but couldn't find it.
"If only Spike would have done his chores I wouldn't have lost that book." Twilight grumbled.
She sat down on the same chair visibly upset that she couldn't find the book.
Then she felt something poke at her back. She sat up immediately and looked behind her. She found out it was her book.
She flipped to the page she had left of on and read over the name of the spell.
"Trasportus Insidus"
Twilight laughed at the name of the spell. It was just transport and inside with us at the end. In fact, she laughed for a while just at the name.
When she finally stopped laughing she read on. The level of difficulty was maximum. Twilight pondered this for a moment weighing her options.
On one hoof she could learn a very difficult spell that could be useful but on the other hoof it may be a worthless spell that wastes her time and she'll never use it.
She decided she would find out what it did then make her final decision.
