Broken Worlds: Age of Ruin

Five years ago, a young boy found and activated a portal that bridged the worlds of Earth and Equestria for the first time in thousands of years. During his stay, he made new friends, new enemies, and discovered new powers.

But, I bet you’ve already been told that story, haven’t you?

Well, how would you like to hear a new one?

This particular story begins four years ago - you may be familiar with the events that led up to these events - when an ancient warlord possessed the body of an alicorn prince, and tried using his power to converge and conquer the human and pony worlds. He was eventually defeated by a more-or-less heroic man, but there was nothing that could be done about the imminent connection of the two dimensions.

The prince and the hero had bright hopes for the future, now that their races had a second chance at living in harmony.

Fate, however, had other ideas in mind.

Upon the worlds’ convergence, several portals opened on either side, and the results were disastrous. Human technology was not accustomed to Equestrian magic, and many electronic systems that operated near a portal’s epicenter were overloaded and destroyed.

It only took one unlucky portal to cause a nuclear reactor on the eastern seaboard of the United States to end the world as they knew it.

Now, the entire eastern half of the United States, as well as large portions of many other countries, is trapped in a nuclear winter. Any humans who were too close to the portals when they first opened were either killed instantaneously, or died at a later date from direct exposure to magical energies. For several months, there was widespread chaos.

In mankind’s darkest hour, however, there was a glimmer of hope: BlackTech, a scientific organization and weapons contractor, was the largest remaining power in the United States, and brought order to the now-lawless country, and established a new government. The remaining citizens were rounded up and relocated to several major cities, some pre-existing and some created by the company itself, where they were well-taken care of. They were told that the attacks that had destroyed their once-peaceful lives were not an accident, and that BlackTech had every intention of striking back at their otherworldly enemies.

There were few humans who were unwilling to help them achieve that goal.

For the first time since their last meeting, Earth had officially declared war on Equestria.

And so we begin our tale here, four years later. The BlackTech Initiative and the Equestrian Alliance are still at war, with either side daring their opponents to concede defeat and refusing to give in. If Equestria loses, then BlackTech will exterminate the inhabitants of Equestria, and claim the planet as their own. If humanity loses, mankind will be pushed out of Equus, and doomed to die out on a broken world.
