Chapter One

"Do you have a name for her yet?" asked a pink filly as she jumped up and down next to Celestia.  The princess sighed and rubbed her ever growing belly.

"No, Cadence.  I just found out a few weeks ago that it was a filly.  I still have a few months."  Cadence stopped and sat down, frowning.

"You still need to find her a name, Auntie Tia.  Its always bad to wait till the last second."  Celestia giggled and stroked the filly's mane.

"And it's always better to wait and not to rush."  Cadence stuck out her tongue, she was still only sixteen but had the mind of a filly at times.  There was a silence in which Cadence decided to change the subject.

"So,, have you spoken to Sparkle since her deployment?" asked Cadence.  Celestia shook her head.  Sparkle was one of her top guard and marefriend.  They had to keep their relationship low due to how nobles and other high political ponies could react and turn against them.  She was also the reason for her enlarged belly.  Being a unicorn she had more than enough ability to make it happen. She was currently deployed on the edge of Equestria.

"Not since she left.  They had troubles out there so I wouldn't be surprised if she hasn't had the time to-" she was cut off by one of her guard walking into the study in which the two alicorns sat.  He removed his helmet and bowed.

"Princess, at 0500 this morning, there was an attack on the eastern edge of Equestria.  We had heavy casualties and two captains were killed.  The captains' names were Shield and Sparkle.  The conflict has calmed down and is believed to be under control......Princess?"  Celestia's eyes were wide and her back was rigid.  Cadence looked at her in concern.  Cadence motioned for the guard to leave.  Once he did, she put a hoof on her aunt's shoulder.

"No, Sparkle couldn't be gone.  She said she would be there.  She said she would stand next to me when I have birth, she would support and help me raise the filly, she said she would love us both forever."  Celestia bent forward and placed her head in hooves.  "This world is too cruel, Cadence."  Cadence stroked her mane gently, calming the white alicorn.

"It's okay, Tia.  You can get through this.  I'm sure she would not want to see you like this.  She would want to see you stand tall and continue on despite her death.  You are strong, prove it."  Celestia smiled the pink alicorn and embraced her.  The two sat in quiet, waiting for someone to speak or to break away.  Neither did for awhile.  Finally, Cadence broke away and smiled at her.

"Come on, you got court in a few minutes.  You need to get cleaned up and ready."  Celestia smiled and followed the mare out of the room, though she didn't want to sit and listen to snobs all day.  She much rather lay down and shut everything out.  She put on a illusion spell on her stomach and walked into the throne room, preparing for another boring four hours of her day.

Celestia sat in the throne room, listening to a proposition on a mining project in Canterlot.  The day court took twice as long as it usually took and it was almost time to lower the sun and raise the moon.   It had been three months since her mare friends death and the raising and lowering of the sun and moon were the only things she ever really enjoyed.  Cadence tried plenty of times to cheer her up, each failed, however.  Her advisor, Quill, showed as much enthusiasm to the stallion as she did.  None.

Celestia groaned and grabbed her stomach, or close to it as others could see, as pain surged from the lower part of her body.  Quill put a hoof on her shoulder, trying to make sure she was alright.  Celestia waved her away and started to sit up.  Before she could, another wave of pain went through her.  She again went back in her hunched position.

       Something wet touched her hoof.

She opened her eyes and stared in shock at the small pool of water at her hooves.  She looked over at Cadence who was sitting off to the side, observing the court and giving advice here and there.

"My water broke."  Cadence and Quill stared at her in shock.  Cadence went to Celestia's side while Quill shoved out the stallion and told the guards to get the doctors.  Quill, who had foals before, sat next to Cadence and Celestia and calmed the white alicorn.

"Just take deep breaths."  Celestia followed Quill's instructions, breathing in and out calmly.  She groaned and bent forward again.

"It's not helping!" grolwed Celestia.  Cadence made a mental note to stay back when Celestia was giving birth, she had no intention of being injured by a mad alicorn in labour.  Celestia is scary while in labour.

Quill kept trying to calm the alicorn while Cadence at there awkwardly, she didn't know what to do.  She knew how to take care of foals, not give birth to them.  She was completely clueless and just stroked Celestia's mane.  This seemed to help somewhat.  She gave a sigh of relief as the doctors came in with a stretcher.

They quickly lifted the princess onto the stretcher and pushed her with haste out of the throne room and to the hospital wing of the castle. Celestia held onto Cadence's hoof the whole way, she had to hide the pained look on her face as her hoof was turned into powder by the impossibly strong grip of Celestia.

Cadence was told to wait outside with Quill while the doctors deliver the foal.  Cadence walked over to a chair in the waiting room with a slight limp.  Quill raised an eyebrow at her.

"Are you alright, Princess Cadence?" asked Quill as Cadence found a seat by the hallway.

"Yes, it's just she has one hell of a grip.  Being in labour doesn't help either, just makes her squeeze harder."  Quill looked down at the alicorns hoof and saw it was red around the area Celestia had been holding.  She was surprised she still had a hoof.

The two sat and listened to the cries of Celestia along with the occasional cuss that was loudly announced through the building.  Cadence winced, hoping it wouldn't be this painful for her when she had her own foal, whenever that would be.  She already felt sorry for the poor stallion, or mare, who had to stand next to her when she gave birth.  She just hoped they would still have the ability to walk.

After six hours of waiting, the screaming stopped and the medical wing was filled with silence.   The silence was broken by the cries of a small foal.  Both Cadence and Quill let out the breath they didn't know holding.  The doctor came out and told them it was okay to enter.

In Celestia's hooves, was a lavender alicorn with a dark purple mane and pink highlights.  The alicorn filly held firmly onto one of Celestia's hooves, not seeming to want to let go.  Cadence giggled at the cute little filly.  The filly squirmed in her mothers hooves and opened her eyes.  A deep purple.

"What are you going to name her?" asked Cadence.  Celestia forgot to find one.  She looked out the window in hopes to possibly find the answer in the night sky.  Both the sun and moon were low in the sky, bathing the sky in orange and purple.  The stars were just starting to show.  Twilight.  Celestia smiled as she looked at the sky.

"Twilight.  Twilight Solar." Cadence smiled, obviously agreeing with the name.

"Princess Twilight Solar.  Well, she's not a princess yet but it's still a good name."  Celestia nodded and cradled her newborn daughter.

"A good name indeed."  Celestia looked over her daughters body.  "We do have a small problem, however."  Cadence raised an eyebrow.  "She is an alicorn."

"How is this a problem?" asked Cadence.

"It is already going to be a lot of trouble for her being the daughter of a goddess.  Being a goddess herself does not help."

"What will you do then?"  Celestia thought for a moment before leaning her head forward.  Her horn touched Twilight's and a light golden aura covered her.  Her wings shrunk into her body.  Once the light faded, Twilight looked like a normal unicorn filly while Celestia looked like she was about to pass out.

"There." she said as she layed her head on her pillow.

"What did you do?" asked Cadence, staring at the filly on awe.

"I removed her wings and 50% of her magical power, as well as her earth pony strength in slumber.  It will awaken when she is of age."  She looked down and smiled at her daughter.  "Until then, she is my little unicorn."

"I will never understand you, Tia.  I have no doubts whatsoever that you will be a great mother." said Cadence, smiling at the alicorn mare and the now unicorn filly.  "We will have to see how everything turns out for the little filly, castle life will not be kind."

"I will not let anything bad happen to her.  And if anything does, I will handle it as I deem fit, even if I have to send a group of ponies to their deaths."

"You also scare me at times." said Cadence as she shook her head.

"It's my job to be intimidating when I need to be." said Celestia with a shrug.

"I can't wait to see what will happen when she starts dating.  Faust help that poor stallion." said Cadence in a mock tone.  Celestia rolled her eyes at the young alicorn.  She looked down at her daughter who was carefully making her way to her source of food.  Celestia pulled the covers over to give her a little privacy.

"I have a feeling that I will not have a relaxing moment for a very long while."
