Chapter 5 The Firework Battle

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The ponies had gone through the boxes and found the more powerful fireworks consisting of repeaters otherwise known as cakes, reloadable mortars, sky rockets, and missiles. There were plenty of mortars, motor shells and rockets to go around. They established themselves on the balconies and windows around the front of the castle, which overlooked the entrance below. One pony was slated to aim the launcher or projectile, while another pony would lite the fuses. They would work in two pony teams. The ponies were scared, but set. The Ponytopia ponies were ready and waiting for the undead to arrive.

At the edge of the forest the hordes of zombies and packs of ghosts arrived. In front of them was Poison Heart riding her mate Storm Cloud on his saddle.

Poison Heart shouted, “Get them!”

The zombies and ghosts burst forward.

Victor Pony was the one chosen to lead the ponies during the battle, while Rainbow Heart was in Rainbow Moon’s Throne Room remembering the past, but also waiting for the signal to try and activate the dormant trap devices. The ponies aimed their rockets and mortar canons directly at the zombies and ghosts.

Victor Pony said, “Ready, aim, fire!”

The ponies lit the fuses. The barrage of fireworks launched and detonated, causing injury and damage to the zombies. Zombies were getting knocked back, some getting burned, some losing body parts, others getting blown apart being disabled. The fireworks detonated in a rainbow and then more of colors and with loud bangs like ramparts.

Victor Pony ordered, “Reload!”

After reloading and lighting more fuses, another wave of fireworks streaked through the air and burst into the enemy forces. It was then that a mare on one of the teams noticed something running in front of the zombies towards the castle.

The mare exclaimed, “There’s a filly outside!”

Victor exclaimed, “What?”

The mare exclaimed, “It’s Squeaker! He must have wondered outside before the fight.”

Another stallion asked, “Do we stop and get him?

Victor Pony said, “Keep firing! If we stop, we all die.”

The foal was playing outside having fun when the attack occurred. The filly was terrified being accidentally left outside. Squeaker was running as fast as she could to the entrance to the castle.

Timber Fall knew what the right thing to do was. He ran out through the front entrance into the chaos with fireworks flying past him and exploding all around him like missiles and bombs. He got the filly, put her on his back, and ran back, hearing the moans of the zombies getting struck by the explosives. A firework detonated on the left side of his face. Singed and burned on the left half of his face, he got knocked down, the filly tumbling off his back and rolling on the ground. After a moment, he opened his eyes, his ear ringing. He had blurry vision from his right eye, blinded in the other and deaf in the ear on the same side. Timber Fall picked himself up, mounted the foal on his back again, and marched forward unfazed just in intense pain. Timber Fall made it back with the filly through the entrance and into the main castle. Timber Fall picked up the foal from his back and set her down.

“Thank you.” The young pony said scampering away.

Her mother rushed up and grabbed her, hugging her.

Timber Fall was embraced by Fruit Fields who hugged him, kissed him on the burnt side of his face and said, “You’re the best stallion there is.”

Timber Fall returned the embrace.

Meanwhile, a misfire injured a mare, the firework rocket exploding in her hooves severely burned and injured her. Another mortar shattered when its tube integrity failed, resulting in the shell exploding in the tube, injuring both stallion ponies on the team. Other ponies carried them to a room set up for injuries and a nurse pony tended to their injuries using what little medical supplies she had. A few other ponies were injured as well, some severely. The wounds mainly were all over the front of their faces, front legs, and front hooves from the fireworks that detonated in front of them. They were burnt, bloody, screaming, and crying.

The fireworks were not causing enough damage and they were running low on fireworks.

Victor said, “Ok. One last barrage. Give it everything you have. Fire!”

The blasts of colorful fireworks launched and exploded in mass, looking like the finale at a fireworks show. When the attack was done there were no more usable fireworks left. The zombies and ghosts made it to the entrance door and entered the castle.

Victor Pony informed Night Wish, “They’ve breeched the castle door! Notify Rainbow Heart.”

Night Wish flew to Rainbow Heart in Rainbow Moon’s Throne Room.

Night Wish informed, “The zombies and ghosts have entered the castle. All ponies are safe from the corridors that are dangerous.”

“I hope this works.” I said, putting my horn into an empty cone shaped hole device designed for a unicorn horn in the center of the control station in the machine, “Come on, work for me.”

I used energy from my horn like turning the key in a car. The engine struggled to start.

A little break, before I stated, “Recognize your creator. I was half of the pony who made you. Engine engage!”

I used all the magical power I could muster. The engine struggled, but then fired up full throttle. The engine bursts into action full bore, powering up the machine castle.

“Yes!” I exclaimed.

I used my hooves to pull two levers on the control station, activating the defensive traps. This activated a deafening emergency alarm throughout the town. Zombies were getting slaughtered. Many circular blades came up from the floor and down from the ceiling, working in conjunction with multiple chainsaw blades from the side walls mowing down zombies in a grid like pattern as it moved back and forth down the halls, cutting zombies into many cube like blocks. Additionally, large spikes, massive piston like smashers, and tall rectangle shaped blocks began to crush down from the ceiling and up from the floor squashing the zombies. After the zombie massacre, they fled with the ghosts following behind them.

Storm Cloud admitted, “We won’t be able to get them.”

Poison Heart was mad.

Poison Heart declared, “Retreat back to Ponytopia.”

The gang called the ghosts and zombies back.

Victor Pony exclaimed joyfully, “We did it! We won!”

There was cheering and celebration from the ponies from Ponytopia.

I returned to the ponies and said, “They will retreat to Ponytopia. We will be safe for now.”

Double Talk, the mayor, came up to me and said, “There could be other ponies in Ponytopia who need our help. They won’t last long once they return.”

I rolled my eyes and admitted, “We can’t go back there. It’d be suicide. These are average ponies not soldiers. Even if the royal guard arrived it be a massacre.”

The mayor added, “Then we’re gonna have to come up with a different strategy. How about a small stealthy group? They could penetrate Ponytopia and try to find and rescue any remaining survivors.”

I said, “I don’t know. It’s too risky.”

The mayor said, “We have to do something. We can’t just let those ponies die or worse. We have to go.”

I barked, “No! We can’t.”

Double Talk unloaded, “What if you were the one trapped in Ponytopia, wouldn’t you want somepony to help you? Or, what if it was Night Wing, your lover, left behind, wouldn’t you want somepony to at least try.”

I reluctantly agreed, after looking at Night Wing and having a few moments of thought to myself, and nodded in approval.

Now the question was who.

“I’ll go.” The injured Timber Fall stated with authority.

“If I die, I want to be with my stallion.” His wife Fruit Fields said.

Victor Pony said, “I’m always up for helping a pony in need.”

Night Wish said, “It’s my duty as the Lunar Princess apprentice to try and help anypony in need.”

I uttered, “I suppose I have to go to.”

“Me too. I’ll go.” Night Wing said.

“No! Absolutely not!” I ordered. “You are staying here. I am not going to lose you.”

Night Wing said, “I will go if I want to.”

I barked, “Don’t make me chain you up in the dungeon.”

Night Wing sly stated, “Oh, kinky.”

I said, “This is serious. I don’t want you to come with us. Promise me you’ll stay here.”

Night Wing looked down at the ground and said, “All right. I won’t go with you.”

I put my hoof on his face, his cheek, and said, “Thank you.”

We kissed.

The five of us departed from the safety of Ponytown to try and save any survivors. There were five of them, well, technically six, Night Wing snuck along in the air going from cloud to cloud with stealth.
