In the beginning there was the sun and the moon. Two gods guided them over the skies of equestria, bringing life to their children who lived below. For thousands of years the two sisters lived In harmony until a terrible war ravaged the world they helped to keep in harmony. It was long and brutal, mistrust and greed spread across the land as all of the sister's children began to fight for resources that seemed to have run scarce. When the war was over the sister's destroyed the empire that had formed in its wake. After man had succeeded in destroying themselves the sisters agreed they could never let another war be waged on the lands they helped form out so they devised a plan. Both sisters chose disciples from the world below and contacted them. They told them that in exchange for watching over the lands below and stopping any indications of war, they would be granted sanctuary among them when they became one with the heavens. They all agreed and so was formed two groups of remarkable people. The disciples of the sister who ruled the sun were known as the children of the sun while the others were called children of the moon. Both organazation's mission was to sniff out rebellion or strife before it caused war and snuff it out. For three thousand years this method worked perfectly and new generations of children were born to carry on thier families legacy of protecting Equestria. But soon a rift began forming between the two sisters. The sister of the moon became paranoid that her sister was plotting to overthrow her position so she could rule of the sun and the moon. When the sister finally snapped, she and her disciples raged a war that the sister of the sun was trying to prevent I. Equestria. After a long conflict, in which both sides lost many good people, the sister of the sun decided to banish her sister to the moon for all of eternity. After her ordeal, and with her sister banished, the sister of the sun branded all children of the moon as traitors, and with one order she had her own desciples hunt them down to be brought to justice. After 10 years it was thought that all of the children of the moon were captured but the sister of the sun never dreamed that a handful of them were able to conceal themselves among the humans below. After 200 years, the children of the moon have regrown thier numbers and have decided it would be better to stay hidden away, never to use thier powers again for fear of being found. And so the children of the sun and the children of the moon faded away into legend. But after banishing her sister, the sister of the sun discovered that the sacred artifacts that allowed her to guide the sun across the sky was missing along with her sister's. These artifacts were thought to have been given to the children of the moon by the sister of the moo. To hide among the mortal world so that her sister could not rule at all. Eventually the sun and the moon found their own way to guide themselves across the sky, though they still await the return of a ruler to once again guide them across the heavens.
"Owww!" Shadow yelps as Sunset Shimmer thumps him on the head hard." What the hell?!" He mutter staring at her.
" The teacher is talking to you stupid!" She mutters jerking her head toward the front of the class where Mr. Dust was raising his eyebrow at him.
" Sorry, what were you saying?" The rest of the class snickers and giggles. The teacher rolls his eyes.
" Once again Mr. Shadow.......in what year was the zebra empire defeated by the equestrian colonies?" He asks
" Uhhh.....1756 right?" He smiles hopefully closing the book he was reading.
" No that was the year equestria was discovered." He shakes his head
"Oh...." Shadow slides his copy of Equestrian History by Silver Quill out of his desk.
" I know your mind would rather be elsewhere right now Mr. Shadow but please.....at least try and pay attention." Mr. Dust says turning back to the chalkboard and continuing." Now, in 1879 the equestrian militia and thier gryphon allies beat back the advancing zebra forces at The Battle of Fort Sunrise. They were able to take control of the port and gathered supplies front the ships docked there......"
Shadow sighed as his teacher trailed off.
"Hey what were you reading?" Sunset shimmer asks twisting around in her seat.
Shadow pulls the book he was reading out from under his history book and hands it to her." It's called Equestrian Legends and Lore by Moon beam." He whispers as she takes it and flips open the cover.
"Never heard of her....." She says reading the first page. Suddenly a hand snatches the book away.
"Reading fiction again Shadow?" Mr. Dust reads the cover and chuckles." We only discuss facts in this class Mr. Shadow, not about fiction such as this....." He drops the book back on the desk.
"It is facts." Shadow challenges.
Mr. Dust stops dead." Says who exactly?? If there was evidence of some god sisters who moved the sun, I think we would have recorded it somewhere." He says smiling as he tried keeping him temper.
"How would you know?" He asks.
"It's my job to know these things, now....." Shadow cuts him off.
"So?? There are things even you don't know..." This time Shadow crossed the line.
" THATS ENOUGH!" Mr. Dust yells and takes a breath before turning to Shadow." That will cost you 6 hours of detention this Friday Mr. Shadow, and I'm not afraid to give you another. Now pay attention!" He growls and walks back to the chalk board.
Shadow groans as the class returns their attention back to the teacher." Great......tomorrow is Friday.......this day can't possibly get worse." He says leaning back.
Shadow didn't know how wrong he was, because his whole view of the works was about to be permanently changed.
Shadow sighed thankfully as the bell rang, signaling the end of his history class. He quickly packed up his books and put them into his backpack. As he was walking out the door Sunset Shimmer caught up to him and started talking as they walked to biology class. He mostly ignored her until she began taking about the book he showed her.
"So you really think that the legends are true? About those lost artifacts and the children of the moon?" She asks smiling as they walk by a group of five girls.
"I'd like to think so...." He says opening the book.
"What made the children of the sun and moon special?" She suddenly asks after a minute of walking." I mean how did they keep equestria in check?"
He looks up at her." Have you read this book?" He asked.
"Well not the whole book, I stopped at around chapter 3." She smiles.
He turns his head back ahead as they round the corner." The sister's granted the ones they chose with certain powers. When the relics were lost, everyone who was a desendant of the original 16 children of the sun and moon lost their powers. Apparently they searched for years but came up empty handed." He says as they arrive at the class and he walks to his usual seat at the back of the class while Sunset Shimmer takes her seat at the front next to a girl with pink hair.
The teacher, Mrs. Truffle, walked to the front of the class and smiled." Alright everyone get into pairs. We have a lab activity today. I will give you five samples of cells and I want each of you to draw and describe them on the worksheet you will be sharing. So everyone grab a microscope and start when you have everything you need." She says sitting in her chair.
Shadow doesn't really care who paired with him he simply waited for whoever was left and he was surprised as Sunset Shimmer waked through the crowd of guys and sat down next to him. He sighs." What is it going to take to get you off my back?" He turns his head to her.
She smiles." Tell me more of what you know of the legends in that book." She says adjusting the microscope she brought to the table.
"Why are you so interested in what I know? You've obviously already read the book." He says as he takes the worksheet and scribbles his name on it before passing it to her.
She shrugs." I just.......do?" She says unsurley.
He groans and runs his temples." Alright listen here Sunburn..." He says glaring at her." I don't know what you want and I don't want to. What u do want is for you to walk away right now." He finishes as pain flashes through his head. His headaches were getting progressively worse. Ever since he came to school at Canterlot high. She backs away from the table and slowly walks to the front of the class where she sits next to a pink haired girl and starts talking. Shadow finishes the worksheet in about ten minutes of class and eventually sits down and Grabs his book he had been reading in history and opens it. As it opens two prices of paper fall out. One was a note the other was very old looking. Shadow cautiously opened the note and started reading it to himself quietly.
"Follow this map to the everfree forest and take what you find there to the Canterlot library." He finishes and picks up the old paper. At first the map was nothing but strange lines and scribbles, but the scribbles and random line seemed to move across the paper to form words and an x at the end of the line. Shadow drops the map as the bells rings, startled by the movement of the words. He grabs his book and shoves it into his bag. He picks up his bag and takes a last look at the map, which had returned to its original scribbles and lines, before turning and quickly walking out of the classroom, leaving the map behind on the floor.
Shadow quickly ran to his car parked in the parking lot on the side of the school. He tried calming himself down as he leaned on the hood of his Red sedan. He put his hand back and felt something on his windshield wipers. He turned to find another note and unlike the first note, this note had a strange crescent insignia on it. Shadow cautiously opened the note. Inside were only five words written in curly, elegant writing . Five words." You can't run from us.". Shadow quickly dropped the note and drove home quickly. When he arrived at his house he quickly walked upstairs to his room, telling his mom he was tired, as he walkes through the kitchen.
"Alright but dinner will be ready in ten minutes." She says as he slams his door.
Shadow sits at his desk and holds his aching head. His migraine was getting even worse than it was at school. He powered on his computer and turned on some soft music and it seemed to work until he realized he wasn't alone.
"You don't listen well.....do you?" Shadow jumps out of his seat and falls backwards. He lands hard and closes his eyes as his headache gets even worse. He opens his eyes and finds himself staring up at a girl. He jumps up and backs away to his desk.
" who the hell are you?!" He asks.
She smiles and stands up off of shadows bed. Her bright white hair was in a ponytail and her skin was a smooth light blue. Her eyes were a bright violet. Shadow raised his eyebrow as she giggles and pretends to take a step toward him. Shadow stumbled back knocking an empty glass bottle off his desk. Shadow growls and ages forward.
"Get out of here now!" He says. She smiles and sits down on his bed
"I'll leave when you take this map." She holds up the paper from the classroom.
"Is this some sort of joke?" He raises his eyebrow and sits in his chair.
"You saw the map......you decide if you believe it. All that matters is that you follow this map." She says getting more comfortable.
"Why should I? I'm not the adventuring type and there are a lot more willing people out there so go find them." He says crossing his arms.
"I know that.....but we need you." She says crossing her legs.
" what do you mean we...." She cuts him off and stands up quickly. She hops over onto his lap." What are you?!" He stops and she wraps her arms around him and presses her lips to his. Behind shadow the door was opened by his mother who froze at the sight before her. The girl smiles and pulls away and looks at shadows mom.
"Oh! Hello!" She waves and smiles. Shadows mom waves back slightly.
"Shadow who is this?" She asks crossing her arms with a stern look on her face.
Shadow is still confused and try's to form words."uhh who...da....huh? What?" She turns and stares at the girl who was still sitting in his lap.
She elbows him slightly in the ribs bringing him back to Equestria." I thought you said you told your mom who I was?" She looks down at him curiously.
"Uhhhh I didn't really......feel it was time?" He finishes with a raised eyebrow.
She smirks and smiles back at shadows mother." I'm Moon Beam.......his girlfriend." She smiles and hops off his lap. She walks to his mother and holds out her hand which shadows mother takes.
"Well.....dinner is almost ready.....would you like to join us?" She asks smiling now.
"Oh uh Shadow and I were going to see a movie tonight......right?!" She elbows him again.
"Ow! I mean yeah! We can have dinner......another day?" He smiles awkwardly.
"Okay, another night then." She smiles and steps out of the room. Moon beam rushes out latched to shadows hand, but before they get halfway down the stairs. Shadow hears his mother call to him.
"We are having a talk when you get home shadow!" She says as they rush out the door. Shadow gulps as he gets to the driver side of his car and moon beam gets in on the other side. Shadow starts the car and looks over to see her looking in the mirror fixing her hair.
"Where exactly are we going?" He says now noticing what she was wearing. She was dressed in a white hoodie with a crescent Symbol on the left side of the chest, and blue jeans that were slightly faded and hugged her form.
"You still don't listen do you?" She smiles at him noticing him looking at her." You're taking me to a movie." She giggles as he groans and rolls his eyes.
"I hope you know how bad I'm going to get chewed out when I get back?" He says as he pulls out of the driveway and starts down the road.
"Moon beam..... Wait?" He turns to her." Your the one who wrote equestrian legends and lore?!"
She smirks"guilty." She chuckles." It's all true just so you know."
"I doubt it." He says stopping at a red light.
" you doubt the children of the moon?" She looks at him curiously.
" it's just a bunch of legends and none sense." He says as the light turns green.
"You doubt my powers?!" She raises her eyebrow.
He snorts." The only power you've shown me is how manipulative you can be." He smiles and stops at a stop sign." And how good you can kiss." He mutters as he presse the gas.
"You'll see......" She crosses her arms as they parks in front of the movie theatre.
"Now what?" He turns to her.
"We see a movie stupid!" She punches him rather hard.
"Ouch! Gosh fine then!" He gets out the car and closes the door." What are we going to see?" He says as she steps out.
" I don't care." She says stretching. They both walk to the ticket window and shadow buys two tickets to some new comedy. After two and a half hours of irritating laughter, shadow walks out with moon beam still laughing.
"Could you shut up?!" He says angrily as she pushes him.
"Aww don't be that way." She takes his arm and latches onto it like a leech." Now......what's for dinner?" Shadow groans loudly.
"Your kidding right?!" He glares at this girl who was now leeching his money.
"Please......for me?" She looks up at him with puppy eyes." Maybe you'll get another kiss if you take me to dinner...." She smirks.
Shadow sighs." I swear I'll be broke by the weekend if you keep this up." He opens her door and let's her get in. Shadow slowly walks around to the other side of the car and try's to open the door, but someone slams their hand down slamming it shut. Shadow looks into the eyes of possibly the one person he hated more than Sunset Shimmer." What do you want Flash?" He glares at the Orange skinned boy in front of him.
" I just wanted to say hi to my favorite shrimp!" He puts shadow in a headlock and rubs the top of his head. Shadows shakes himself out of the headlock and pushes Flash back. Flash growls and snaps his fingers. Two other walks out from behind an SUV.
Shadow groans." What? Can't take me on by yourself?" Shadow asks as his door opens and Moon Beam steps out.
"Who's this?" She asks curiously standing next to shadow.
Flash smiles." And who is this?" He asks shadow.
"Im his girlfriend." Moon Beam takes shadow's arm." And I don't appreciate you messing with us tonight." She says.
" oh no!" Flash laughs." Man! You don't deserve her buddy! How about she comes with me tonight?!" He laughs as Moon Beam steps forward and grabs his arm.
"I'm not letting this night get ruined by some snob." She glares and speaks a strange word."Diin!" She says and Flash becomes rigid and still. She pushes him back and he hits the ground with a thud, still frozen.
"What the?!" Shadow jumps back as he hits the ground.
"Now get him out of here before I do you two!" She growls as Flashes friends quickly drag his rigid form away with fear etched on their faces." Now..... I believe you were taking me to dinner?" She smirks at shadow.
"Yes! Of course!" He opens her door for her, now more fearful of her than ever. He gets in the drivers seat and pulls out of the parking lot. After parking outside one he nicer restaurants around, and being seated, shadow looked up at her curiously.
" what?" She's asks as she stops eating.
" how did you do that?" He asks as a waiter walks by.
"I told you who I am." She says smiling.
"And you are?" He says.
"What do you want? Some flashy introduction?! I'm one of the children of the moon! I'm part God!" She says dramatically and finishes with a chuckle.
A waiter walks up to shadow carrying a bouquet of roses." A flower for you woman?" He asks smiling.
Shadow sighs and looks at Moon Beam. She smiles." Fine." He says. The waiter smiles and hands her a rose.
" ten dollars." The waiter holds out his hand and shadow nearly spits out his food." I think my wallet just had a heart attack." Shadow says as he hands over a ten from his wallet.
"Oh come on! It is for me after all." She smirks.
After they finished their dinner, shadow paid and walked out of the restaurant with Moon Beam hanging onto his arm." Give me the map...." He mutters.
"What?" She asks.
"The map.....give it to me." He says looking down at her. She smiles and pulls the map from her pocket and hands it to him. He signs and slides it into his pocket. The sun had already set and there was only a bit of light left. Shadow opens her door for her and gets into the drivers side. He starts the car and looks over at her." Where do you live?" He asks exausted.
"Uhh I was actually wondering.... Mind if I sleep on your couch?" She smirks.
"Fuuuuuuck!" He slams his head down on the steering wheel setting off the horn.
"I'm kidding!" She says poking his stomach.
"Can you just not!" He groans.
"Take me to the Grand Galloping hotel. The address is 276 west Main Street."
"I know the place.....I also know you have to be pretty fucking rich to afford a reservation there." He squints at her. She smirks and shrugs.
"Am I not allowed to be treated nice by my "boyfriend"?" She smirks.
"Well a nice " girlfriend" would have at least offered to help pay for the meal, especially if she can afford to stay at the fanciest hotel in this town." He glares back.
"Touché." She says smiling.
He smirks and drives out of the parking lot. After driving for half an hour he parks outside of the hotel and walks her to her room on the 13th floor.
"And here it is!" She stops at room 1304." Well.....I'll see you tomorrow I guess...." She smiles.
"As long as you don't leech off my wallet again......I'll look forward to it." He smiles back." Bye....." He turns to walk away but she takes his hand. He looks back at her to see a blush appear on her cheeks." What are you??" She stops him talking by pressing her lips to his once again. This time shadow rests his hands on her hips and pulls her closer. After ten seconds they break apart and shadow smiles." What's was that for?"
"I promised you a kiss if you bought me dinner and you did.....I'll pay you back." He cuts her off.
"It's fine......" He smiles
"Well bye" she opens the door but shadow stops it.
"You forgot this in my car." He hands her the rose from the restaurant.
She smiles and takes it." Thanks.....bye" she walks Into he room and shuts the door.
All the lights in the room are off and a voice speaks from the dark." Did you give him the map?"
"Yes......I'll help guide him tomorrow..." She says hiding the rose.
"Don't become involved with this one Moon Beam....remember what happened last time you cared for someone....."
" I know.......I won't forget." She holds up the rise and stares at it sadly as it turns to ash in her hand.
