Barnyards and Bulls
The Invitation
Previous ChapterNext ChapterRarity awoke inside her boutique to a loud thumping on her door. Assuming it was once again the paparazzi come to urge her to spread her legs, she threw a pillow over her ears and pretended not to be home.
That was, until she heard a familiar voice.
“Rarity! Rarity, where the hay are ya? I know you’re in there; don’t try ‘an play games with me!”
The thick country accent was enough to draw Rarity to her feet.
“Rarity! Rarity, please come out here! I just wann-”
The door creaked open and Applejack was hurriedly pulled inside.
“What in the hay?” muttered Applejack, a bit disoriented from the surprise move.
Rarity smiled at her. “Oh, Applejack, dear, you’ve come to see me!” The mare gave the country pony a gentle squeezing hug. “Where in Equestria have you been, darling? I know we had a bit of a fallout, but I never really thought you’d leave me behind! Here I was, wondering if you’d actually forgotten me along with the others, and you show up at my door! Oh, having dear friends like you is so wonderful! Here, let me put on some tea. We still have that cinnamon apple flavor you seem to li-”
Rarity was interrupted by a firm hoof against her lips. “That’s mighty kind of ya, Rare,” explained Applejack. “But I, uh, don’t got much time for chitter-chatter. Ah actually came by to ask you a favor.”
Rarity dropped the teapot she was holding in her magic. “Oh, dear, you should’ve just said so! There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”
Applejack twitched a bit. “Well, Rare, it’s nothin’ big. Ah just need you to come by the barn later to, uh, help me with some fancifying nonsense.”
Hardly containing her excitement, Rarity squealed in delight. “Oh, AJ, I never thought you’d come around! Of course I’ll help you out with aesthetics! We can make your barn the chic country home it’s always been destined to be!” The mare paused. “Of course, we’ll have to pick a time when I can actually go out without the paparazzi around. See, I feel it’d hurt my image for all these fancy ponies to see me hanging out with a mare like y-” Rarity caught herself and quickly changed the subject. “Anywho, I’ll definitely be seeing you later! How does eight o’clock sound? I know it’s a bit late but-”
“That’ll do.” huffed Applejack whose dismay had grown more and more obvious the longer the mare had talked.
With that, Applejack left. No goodbyes uttered or even a wave. Rarity wondered if it was something she had said, but quickly shook the thought. She was going to reconnect with an old friend. What could possibly ruin that?
