God sobbed, his tears washing over the desolate wasteland that was once his greatest treasure, his greatest creations reduced to nothing more than scraps, dwindling even further as they refused to stop killing each other. He cried, as those made in His image descended further into Satan's domain, and plunged the entire world into chaos. He wept as the Chinese decided to destroy his treasure, for they had decided that none should live if they could not have the world.

200 years later, God looked upon what had been His greatest treasure. He stared almost lifelessly as greed, selfishness, cruelty, and ruthlessness ruled what had once been a beautiful planet. His word had been forgotten, as most of the Bibles had been destroyed when the bombs went off. He stared for a long time, but He saw nothing. As he started to look away, he heard something. "...Bible. 'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Revelations 21:6.' It was your mothers favorite verse. Hold this verse close to your heart, and she will never truly be gone."

Someone still knew of His word! He focused upon where He heard that. God saw an infant staring at her father, trying to understand what he was saying, one who He saw as the future of His world. God watched, as she grew from infant, to child, to young adult. He watched as she was chased out of her home, and was thrust into combat. He watched all of her choices, both good and bad, as she began her journey. He watched her struggle, trying to stay on the side of the values that she had been taught, of justice, and succeed most of the time. He watched as she saved the infant deathclaw, and it begin to follow this soul. He watched as her soul tore itself apart, conflicting ideals causing her to make many choices, both good and bad. This tortured, lost, yet noble soul traveled through the wasteland, actually redeeming many.

He watched as she saved the slaves, and her father. He watched her go to her fathers project, and watch him die. He watched as her love for her father fuel her hatred to those who had killed him, as she tore through any in her way. He watched as she freed the one known as Fawkes, as she had her vengeance on those who had killed her father, and as she saved the lost dog from dying alone. He watched as wherever she went, she brought new life, new hope, to the wasteland, and watched as she was faced with the noblest of virtues, Honor, selflessness, courage. He watched as the failed creations took her, and how she won the fight. He watched, and waited.

He Watched as she went back to her project, and took it back. He watched as she was faced with that greatest of virtues, Sacrifice. God watched, proudly, as the Lone Wanderer fearlessly step into the chamber, with those she saved refusing to let her do this alone. He watched as she followed in her fathers footsteps, and felt now was the time to act, for someone who had done as she had, had saved what was left of His creations, she should be rewarded. As the life faded from her body, He acted, by searching for a world free of this conflict, where she and hers, could live in peace. He took her to the one place where He knew she wouldn't have to fight, where if conflict did arise, she would no longer have to fight alone.

And so it was that the Lone Wanderer ventured forth from Vault 101 intent on discovering the fate of a father who had once sacrificed the future of humanity for that of his only child. The Capital Wasteland proved a cruel inhospitable place, but the Lone Wanderer refused to surrender to the vices that had claimed so many others. The values passed on from father to child – selflessness, compassion, honor – guided this noble soul through countless trials and triumphs.

But it was not until the end of this long road that the Lone Wanderer learned the true meaning of that greatest of virtues – sacrifice. Stepping into the irradiated control chamber of Project Purity, the child followed the example of the father sacrificing life itself for the greater good of mankind Thankfully, when selected by the sinister president to be his instrument of annihilation, the Wanderer refused. Humanity with all its flaws was deemed worthy of preservation. The waters of life flowed at last – free and pure, for any and all. The Capital Wasteland at long last was saved.

So ends the story of the Lone Wanderer, who stepped through the great door of Vault 101 and into the annals of legend. But the tale of humanity will never come to a close, for the struggle of survival is a war without end, and war – war never changes.
