Chapters Prolouge
Glistening silver eyes had become pinpoints in the soft moon light as Cosmic Light ran through the Everfree forest attempting to escape the hungry hydra that had been chasing her for the past 5 minutes, although it seemed like a hour to the petrified little filly.
Hungry, thirsty, and exhausted, Cosmic light was in bad shape. She might have enough energy to do a little more then a levitation spell, but it would take all of her effort. After living by herself in Everfree for the past week she had managed to teach herself many new tricks in order to not only survive, but also create a temporary home; or so she thought. Sadly this looked like it might have been the end for her; she was quickly running out of stamina while the effects of the last week took its toll on her weakened body.
She started thinking saying to herself "I thought I was prepared for the forest, but I probably could have read about it more or learned better spells, or even a healing spell while I was at it. If I was smarter I wouldn’t have used so much magic when it wasn’t necessary.” While lost in thought the hydra managed to catch her by the end of her tail, throwing her hard into a very large tree trunk. The force of the impact caused 3 ribs to break, and knocking the wind out of the poor thing and with the bark having caused multiple and deep cuts all over her body (making a bloody marinade for the hydras next snack), she did the only thing she could think of. Cosmic used the last of her magic in order to blind the hydra with a white light to try and disorientate the massive beast. Ignoring the blood dripping down her entire body, she barely managed to create a bright enough light.
Finally catching her breath she managed to continue running with her adrenaline numbing the pain of her injuries. She knew she had to do something or she wouldn’t last much longer. Cosmic light was just about at her final breaking point and was fighting off the urge to just give up, when a bright flash came from above taking the filly by shock. She ran knowing that the distraction would be her last hope.
A moment before Princess Luna had noticed the bright light and came to investigate, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect timing ironically enough. After making the hydra run away, scared for its life, she turned to help the filly. With only a glimpse of the filly before. She was shocked to discover that she had vanished. Leaving a confused Luna in one of the most dangerous place in all of Equestria. Needing to lower the moon to make way for her sister's sun, Luna returned to the castle. While lowering the moon, she couldn’t stop thinking about her, and what had happened. She started hating herself for not searching for her, herself.
In hope of finding the filly she saved, Princess Luna had a squad of her Royal Batpony guards and (with her sisters permission of course) a few of the Royal solar guards under Celestias watch, search the everfree forest in a desperate hope of finding her or any sign of her. For the next three days they searched to no prevail. The guards had very little to go by because Luna wasn’t able to get a good look at the filly. The only description was skinny, short, blue or gray mane and tail, and dark purplish-blue or dark blue fur .She could tell that she was younger then the Infamous Cutie Mark Crusaders. (After a few Crusades went wrong they became well known between both Royal guards and castle staff. Shining Armor is still in therapy). Luna begged the squad; that was ready to give up the search; to look for one more day. After a moment of back and forth between the guards and Luna they agreed with a “here we go again” sigh. One more day. That was it.
Cosmic light having run away during Lunas distraction, managed to finally rest for a minute. She created a mental checklist of all the components she would need in order to attempt to even survive the next few days. She had survived the hydra, but being so severely injured faced her with a whole different issue that hadn't even crossed her mind before. Coming to a conclusion that water would be more important, she made a 5 mile hike to the bank of the river, she spent the next minute just drinking all the water she could manage to try and hydrate her dehydrated body, and sooth her throat that had turned raw during the presuit. Not sleeping that previous day and still being so young, she barely managed to keep herself up. (Cosmic Light was a night owl. She always stayed awake at night and slept during the day, even though it didn’t leave the filly many opportunities to make friends. She didn’t mind though. She was happy being by herself. Or so she thought. She had her books, and her night to keep herself occupied. It was all that she had ever even known).
Her next step was to find shelter to keep herself safe, before a second creature had become aware of the helpless victim that could easily be swallowed in one bite by more then twenty percent of the carnivorous predators that called the forest their home. After a hour of searching for a suitable location and her body feeling like it had been hit by the force of a sonic rainboom, she gave up the search and settled to creating a makeshift shelter. She took two long branches and tied them to a thin but sturdy tree with vine making a A-shelter. She then took several giant leaves in her mouth and wove them together to keep the wind and possible rain out. Under the tree coverings you wouldn’t be able to even tell that there was a shelter there. The whole task took about 20 minutes and the last of her energy. Barely being able to eat a little grass from the surrounding area, Cosmic light finally passed out.
She woke up the next night and couldn’t move her body. It was then she knew she was sick but had no way of healing herself and her magic and stamina still critically low, so both were out of the question. A fever starting to come on leaving the poor filly feeling like she had been traveling in the desert in the middle of summer. Knowing she was out of options all she could manage to do was whispered to herself “Why did it have to be me? What did I ever do to deserve this life? Just Why?”. Barely being able to breath at this with her broken ribs, the young filly was scared for her life, and after only a few minutes in agony from her injuries Her world started going black. Her body when limp, and she could hardly even keep her eyes open. Her last thought was “Could this really have been the end?” Her body went limp as she drifted off into a comatose like state. Knowing it was the end, a single tear fell from her eye. She was out of options.
What is your story?
How do we know that the Princess wasn’t just night dreaming about it all?” Lunar Owl asked Captain Shield wind as they rummaged through the everfree forest in pursuit of a young filly that Luna swore was out here and needed help.
“The princess is in charge of the night. I’m pretty sure she could tell the difference between the dream world and the wake world. Besides if there is a filly out here, she needs help. Most ponies wouldn’t survive more then 3 days at the most, who knows she has been out here for; and if she is injured then that puts her in even greater danger” Captain Wind replied while heading sky-ward in order to get a better view of the surrounding area. It was then he noticed something wasn’t right. Captain Wind noticed some greenery that looked slightly out of place, but couldn’t figure out why until he was right by it. It wasn’t a plant, it was a shelter, with a unconscious filly inside matching Lunas rather vague description. After a 4 day search, they are confident that this is her.
Getting a better look, it was rather unique colors for a equestrian. She was a night time blue, slightly brighter shade then Luna, with a royal blue, and gray mane, a adorable clustering of freckles on her cheeks, and a black star cutie mark, with light streaks filling it, the star was in a field of baby blue, with a black ring around the whole thing. The captain couldn’t help but briefly wonder how a filly so young; she might have just started school; was able to already obtain her cutie mark already, and what her talent was. She was rather small and underweight for her size, but that worked to her advantage to stay hidden. Without warning he came to a realization that this poor filly was very sick, and injured. He didn’t have time to think, he needed action if it wasn’t already too late to save her life.
"OWL! GET OVER HERE NOW!!! The captain sounded out so loud, it could be a close second to the royal Canterlot voice.
“Yes captain, did you discover anything” Night owl asked as he ran over to the captain. It was then he noticed the filly and ran over to check on her. He had far more medical experience then the captain, that is why they were paired together. (With the massive size of the forest, the guards all split up into 6 groups of 2, one high rank with the ability to contact Princess Luna in a moments notice, and with combat ability to protect themselves from the murderous creatures wandering the forest. The other was decent at worst in combat, and had medical training in case of injuries, and to help the filly once discovered.
“We need to get her to the hospital soon or she won’t make it, She has multiple lesions around her that have gotten infected, causing a high fever, and multiple broken bones along with a possible head injury. I can also feel that she doesn’t have enough energy to replenish her magic that is critically low.” Night warned the captain. At that note, Wind sent a note to the Princess alerting her of the situation.
BAMB! WHOSHHHHH!
A bright white light and sudden rush of ice cold air on a hot summer night startled Wind and Night as Luna and teleported to their location. “Princess!” both guards recited and saluted in unison.
“There is no time for that now. I will teleport her to the castle infirmary with me. If her injuries are as server as you claim, she shouldn’t waste any time.” The both guards stood at attention and saluted, as Luna picked up the filly in her magic, holding her tight, and vanishing in a blink.
“I know this isn’t the time, but am I the only one impressed at how far she has come in her way of speaking? She is actually starting to talk like she was born in this generation” Night said to Wind.
“I have to admit I am slightly impressed. I would have bet she would slip at some point, but now isn’t the time. We need to round up the others and get back to the castle. Something happened to her, and we need to find out what. You don’t just go live in Everfree for the fun of it at that age.”. With that both guards where off.
BOOM! The doors to the castle hospital slammed open, causing the doctors and nurses to all jump. The hospital wasn’t needed for anything serious except for when a guard was injured during combat, alcohol intoxication, or Luna did something stupid again that landed her a broken bone. After they recovered from the initial shock the head doctor finally asked “Please tell me you didn’t try Kendo again. You nearly broke your horn last time, my Princess”. At that note Luna gave him the death glare.
“It’s not me; well not this time.” she said in a with a thinking face, “A filly was found in the Everfree forest and needs to be taken care of. I know for a fact she has been out there for at least 3 days. I do not know who she is, but we can not simply ignore a injured pony.” With that every staff member jumped into action, taking the filly, putting her in a bed. They started with the physical examination, and understanding the danger she was in, they made her their top priority.
“We will take good care of her, and we will contact you when she is stable. As of right now I only give her about a 20% chance of survival. That number can increase or decrease depending on the next 24 hours.”. The doctor said as gently as he could to Luna who was starting to become frantic with worry.
“Thank you. Night court will be starting soon, if need be send for me and I will get away as quickly as possible. Please take good care of her”. They watched as the princess accidentally let a tear drop from her eyes. She hated seeing such a young pony in such condition. They had a whole life ahead of them, and she was basically helpless. Just standing on the side lines watching, killed her inside even though she would never admit it out loud.
The hospital staff watched her walk away, gently closing the door behind her. After the door closed the head doctor looked at one of the nurses “When did she learn to start talking normal?” only to have the nurse reply
“No clue, but it’s about time. Also 20 bits she cancels night court tonight to come back and stay with the filly”. With that the staff started betting. After a moment the doctor started giving orders,
I need a bag of saline, 2 bags of o negative blood and……..
Lulu? Lulu? LUNA!
“Hah, wha, Oh Hi Tia, what brings you by my night court?” Luna asked trying not to let worry show on her face.
“Lulu, some of the guards alerted me to you. They say you aren’t acting like your normal self. You look like an absolute mess, not a way a princess should appear, and also you keep spacing out. I mean I know your the Princess of the night, but does your head have to be in space? Celestia asked with a small chuckle.
“Sorry Tia, I just have a lot on my mind, I usually don’t have a lot of ponies come in after this hour, so I think I'm going to cancel the rest of night court. I have some where I need to be.” Luna explained as she started heading to the front doors of the throne room.
“Do you want to talk about it Lulu?” Her only response was a single shake of Lunas head. Luna continued walking down the hall, and she could feel her sister's worried eyes following her. Celestia couldn’t help but watch her leave, with various scenarios of what could be troubling her sister racing through her mind. Not knowing about the filly, she came up with some pretty unique possibilities. Yes including a Discord influence. After she started going back to bed a thought crossed her mind. “I’m amazed that she isn’t talking and ancient tongue much anymore. She is really starting to get over her 1000 years on the moon.” Celestia whispered to herself, letting a small smile form on her lips.
Knowing the doctors would still be working on the filly, Luna decided that she should go get cleaned up, she looked more frazzled then Twilight when she thought her friendship letter was going to be late. After a quick bath, and brushing her starry mane, she headed down to the hospital. As she walked through the front doors she could hear the doctor
“Ah, just in time. I was just about to send for you. Still sounds weird sending for a princess instead of the other way around, but I'm getting used to it. Kind of, not really, ok never mind, back to the matter on hand. She is doing remarkably since you first brought her in. She is stitched up, received a blood transfusion, liquids because she was dehydrated, and she is resting as comfortably as possible.
Unfortunately she does have 3 broken ribs, but they will heal in a few weeks. I’m honestly amazed that is all she had broken given the extent of her injuries. Her bones are very strong. We have found something interesting though. First I must ask, how did you get here so early? Shouldn't night court be going on for a few more hours?”
Luna shook her head “I’m afraid I wasn’t very well and canceled it early.”
The doctor looked concerned for a moment as others started exchanging bits with out the night princess noticing. “Do you want me too look at you, find out if you have a illness or if it is just stress and worry?”
“It is just the stress and worry” Luna assured the doctor. “You said that there was a development that you found? Would it be possible to help us discover her identity, and hopefully try and find her family?” Luna said with a hint of hope in her voice.
“Ah yes, well it's very interesting. Her bones are extremely strong. The can be about equal strength to Alicorn bones, but somehow while doing x-rays, we discovered that almost every single bone in her body had been broken and remodeled. Some more then once. I don’t know what in Tartarus this child has been through, but I can’t imagine anyone surviving some of those injuries. Let alone this poor filly.” The doctor said not taking his eyes off Cosmic Light.
“How do you suppose that could have possibly happened? Could she have been in the forest that long that she managed to receive all those injuries?” Luna though while her mind was racing. At a lost for words from everyone in the room, the all just stared at the filly for a minute. “What is your story” Luna asked breaking the silence. The doctor looked at Luna with a sparkle of a idea in his eye. Without even needing to say anything else, Luna realized what he was implying. “I’ll be back”
DISCORD!!!!!!!!!!
“Oh hello Tia, what’s that matter? You never call me, unless you want to”
“Not the time Discord, did you do something to Luna?” Celestia asked curiously
“Who, moi?” He said in disbelief with an exaggerated expression. “I would never do anything bad to dear Lulu. What kind of friend would I be?”
“We all know you better then that” Celestia said rolling her eyes. “She has been acting weird all day, spacing out, fidgety, she even cancelled night court after just a hour. I thought I’d never get her to come around after she spaced out the last time I saw her.” Tia said looking towards the ground lost in thought.
“Ah yes, is that why I heard you use the royal Canterlot voice earlier?" Discord asked in a joking voice.
“That wasn’t the royal Canterlot voice. I’m not sure you remember but mine is twice as loud as Lunas. I can already see mass chaos already” She said remembering the last time she used it, half of the west wing was destroyed.
“You make a valid point, I am the only one here allowed to make chaos.” He said with a evil grin before disappearing with a snap of his talons, leaving a very confused and terrified Celestia in the throne room.
“How much paper work is he going to make for me this time? Also what did he do to Luna? Even if he isn’t responsible for her behavior, I have a gut feeling he did something”, Celestia said to herself before noticing her Royal guards snickering. “You didn’t see or hear anything” Celestia said then a flash and she was gone. “Where’s a camera when you need one the first Royal guard asked the other.
Dear Twilight,
I have noticed that Luna has not been acting like herself and last time this happened is because of Discord who swears he had no part in this. I was curious if you knew anything that has been hidden from me? I hate having to ask. Also if you can do some research on reverse mind control spells for interdimensional transitions, the long term effects of a mineral diet, and check a star map with the current constellations and mark anything out of the ordinary. I can not rule anything out. One last thing, can I also get that recipe for the whiskey cake you made last week? It was the best I've ever had, and please keep Pinkie Pie away from it. It took 5 different sedation spells at the same time to make her drowsy. She is some how more destructive then the Cutie Mark Crusaders when she is on that stuff and I didn't think that was physically possible. Not to mention I’m not sure how much more therapy your brother can take before he starts having a complete mental breakdown again. Thank you, and my apologies for any inconveniences.
Your loving teacher,
Princess Celestia
“What happened to me?” Cosmic Light asked herself waking up in pitch black. “Was it all a dream? My body isn’t hurting like I thought it would. It all seemed so real though, but then where am I?” Cosmic thought while attempting to find any sign of light. She had noticed that there wasn’t even a moon visible. Was it just too dark. Her heart started racing as she thought of almost every possibility. BOOM!. The loud crash made the poor filly jump 5 feet in the air. Trying to slow her breath after a moment she finally got up the courage to talk. “He-hello? Who’s there?” I can’t see anything. HELP! Wait, wha-what was that spell again? Oh right. Huh? No, no, nononononononononono! My magic, it isn’t working! Why isn’t it working, I should have enough magic to do a simple light spell. HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!” She cried hoping that someone would be around to help here.
BOOM!
Eeeeepppp she squealed, terrified she did what she knew best. She ran. She made it about 13 feet before she ran into something. Falling on her back, slightly in shock, she attempted to make out where she was, and why didn’t it hurt when she ran into, whatever that is? Feeling around she noticed it was a tree.
BOOM!
“I-I'm in the forest still? Wa-wait, if I'm in the forest then what is making that crashing sound?” Heart revving up, she attempted to focus enough to try and see any slimmer of anything. “This is, it’s just like that dream. Wh-why?”
BOOM!
Confused she just sat there and hoped that if she didn’t make a sound it wouldn’t notice her. Remembering that Hydras have poor eyesight, but an amazing sense of smell and hearing she thought quickly. Covering herself in what she prayed was mud (it smelled like mud so she was confident she was safe), she knew that would mask her smell, and now as long as she didn’t make a sound she should be ok.
Booooommmmm.
A bright white flash blinded the poor unexpecting filly.
`“Little one are you near by?” Not recognizing the voice right away, and attempting to figure out if she was there to help, she made the choice to just remain quiet and hold out until sunlight. “Hello, little one, are you around here?” Taking slow deep breaths Cosmic tried to figure out again who the voice belonged to. (Anyone who ever knew Cosmic Light new that she was extremely shy to most people, but she had a sixth sense that allowed her to get close to certain people. She hadn’t figured out how it worked exactly, just some she can usually open up to after a little while, and some she can’t say more then 5 words to. She’s working on it though. So far she has found 2 others.) While lost in thought; which she tended to do a lot by accident, trying to figure out what was going on she didn’t notice the area around her lighting up. “Why hello there. It’s alright, you don’t have to be scared.” Jumping at the sound of the voice she turned around and was face to face with the moon princess.
“Prince-prince-princess Lu-Luna” Cosmic whispered so low that it would make Fluttershy sound like Pinkie Pie on meth. After the shock of the situation wore off, she attempted to make a run for it.
“Not this time” Luna said firmly while using her magic to levitate the helpless little filly. Setting her down and covering her with her wing trying to calm her down, Cosmic Light finally managed to look up to the Princess with soft pleading eyes. “It is alright, you can not be harmed here, for you are in the dream realm”
“So if this is a dream, then are you just a part of my imagination” Cosmic light said amazing herself she could actually talk with her
“No, I am real. It is because of my magic, I was able to connect my conscious to your dream, and come help you. You have many people trying to help you in the wake realm as we speak. I need to find out what is going on though, in order to help you further.” Luna said gently trying not to let Cosmic notice how much worry is actually running through her mind.
“I’m so sorry, but I can’t go into detail. I can tell you about the night you saved me though. I was sleeping under a tree covering when a hydra tried to eat me. The ground shaking felt like a earthquake, and that woke me up, just in time. I ran for a while, although I'm not sure how far I actually went. I was already really tired and couldn’t really go too far. After a while he was able to catch me by my tail and throw me into a big tree. That's all I remember until you helped me by distracting the hydra. I used that to my advantage to get away. I managed to get something to drink and build a small makeshift shelter and that's it.” Cosmic light finished her rather vague story, trying not to go into too much detail.
“That fills in a few more blanks but that’s not everything. We need to have longer talk when you are well again. At least for now you are safe. Can you tell me who you are, or how to find someone who can help such as a family member?”
”I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you. The best thing for me right now is to distant myself from everything. Especially my family.” Cosmic told her looking down trying to suppress the memories.
”I understand, but distancing yourself, no matter what the issue will not solve anything. The best thing you can do is talk about what is bothering you. I am here to talk if you need me.” Luna told Cosmic in as gentle as firm voice as she could without sounding like she was being overprotective, considering the situation.
“Thank you, Princess. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind. I’m curious though, is being connected to me in the dream realm keeping me safe." She said looking up to meet the moons’ princesses eyes. Looking into the filly's eyes she could tell how much pain she was truly feeling. Not the physical pain, but much worst. Emotional pain. Feeling helpless because Cosmic won’t talk to her she finally chose to drop it for now before she does anything that could hurt her anymore then she already is.
“No, me being in your dream is not keeping you safe. The guards found you and took you into the hospital. You are very sick, but they are doing the best they can. Hopefully you will wake soon. I am so sorry but I must go now. I will be back, if you do not wake first. Please stay strong and remember that your dreams are what ever you want them to be. Let your imagination wonder, and just have fun with it.” Giving a big hug and nuzzling her.
“I’m sorry Princess, and thank you for everything you have done for me.” Cosmic said with a smile and glimmer of hope in her eyes. With that Luna vanished leaving cosmic alone. “Well she did say to have fun”. You can see the gears turning in Cosmics head as the forest turned into a giant field to play in, and lots of toys to keep herself occupied. Deep down though, she could still feel the wound that was about to be torn open. Hoping to keep it there she decided to play, now that she knew that it was all a dream. She could relax slightly. It was a rare moment that she loved.
“Did you discover anything useful about her?” The doctor asked Luna noticing her coming back to reality.
“I found out that she was attacked by the hydra while sleeping, and her injuries are from when it threw her into a tree. Apparently she had been out there for a while trying to distance herself from everypony. That's all she was willing to tell me. I can tell that she is going through a lot, but if she won’t let me help her, then I don’t know what to do. Maybe my sister would have a idea how too..” Luna started trailing off lost in thought.
“That explains how she got her injuries. It doesn’t explain the massive amount of past injuries though, and I have no explanation on how she could have even started to get them wit how strong her bones are. Its not like she could just fall off a scooter and break her arm. This is like a dead weight was dropped on her from the 2nd story window.” The doctor said while starting to look over her again, not even attempting to hide the worry in his eyes.
“I must go, but I will return later. Please continue to take excellent care for her and please alert me immediately if she wakes up or if anything of importance happens or discovered. Oh, and thank you everypony for all your work. I know it hasn’t been easy.” Bowing her head, Luna started out of the room to go lower the moon and join her sister for dinner. (Tias breakfast).
“Um princess, you don’t have to thank us. We would be more then willing to help anypony that was injured. If there is something we can do, we will do it without a second thought.” Smiling Luna closed the door in her magic.
“Do you think that Luna knows more then she is telling us?” One of the nurses asked after waiting a moment for Luna to be out of earshot.
“Definitely, she's holding something back, but it is none of our business. There must be a good reason for it.” Nodding in agreement everyone went back to check over the filly.
“She at least could have told us her name” A nurse commented causing the whole room to look at each other with worry and amusement.
“Good morning Tia”
“Good morning Lulu. How are you” Celestia said looking up at Luna. It was then that she noticed that Luna was looking rather ill. Getting up she met her halfway, with a concerned older sister look, she wrapped her wing around Luna “What’s that matter Lulu. Here come sit down.” She pulled out a sitting cushion with her magic, and helped her sit. A glass of water, Apple cider, and a rather large salad appeared in front of her within seconds. (The kitchens always made sure to have their food ready when they arrived). “Are you feeling ill?” Celestia asked with that look. Luna didn’t show others when she was ill or depressed, so when it showed, something was wrong.
“No Tia, I'm not sick, just had a busy few days. No need to worry about me, I’ll be ok. Just have a lot on my plate that is.” Not feeling hungry she just played with her food. “So how has your day been? I heard that you were helping organize some treaty with the Diamond Dogs?” Celestia could tell she was trying to change the subject. She let it go, at least until she heard something or noticed something otherwise.
“Yes, the Chief wants Crystals from the Crystal Empire in exchange for help building new tunnels in the mountain side, to allow access to other cities and towns in Equestria. Cadence and Shining Armor already agreed that was a fair trade, but asked me to figure out the amount of Crystals that the dogs would be receiving, time, and cost. After that is finished they will sign the treaty and the construction should begin within the next month.” She explained finishing her breakfast. Looking she noticed that Luna hadn’t touched hers. “Not hungry this morning Lulu? What are you thinking about?” she asked sneaking the apple cider away from her sister.
“I just have a issue and I can’t figure out what to do. I need somepony to talk to me, but they refuse. I can’t just make her talk to me because it’s on a personal level. The main issue is that, she ended up in danger because of it. Do you have any suggestions on what to do?” She explained. She didn’t want to get her completely involved as of right now, until she has more facts. It has been kept secret from her, because of a past incident. She didn’t want to open up an old wound.
“I expect more details later, and it depends on a few factors. First, was the danger to themselves on purpose, or was it by accident. Second, how many people are already involved, and third, how old are they? Are they a filly like the cutie mark crusaders and younger, are they about Twilights’ age, Cadences’ age, or maybe older? Until you can figure out all the variables the only thing I can say, is just try and be their friend. If it’s personal then you can’t make her talk to you, but just being there can mean a lot more then you ever know.” Celestia said gently.
She was thinking about what might possibly be going when Pop .
“A letter from Twilight? Is everything alright?” Luna asked curiously
Celestia opened the scroll and started reading
Dear Princess Celestia,
I’m so sorry, I do not know what could be bothering Luna, but I have noticed that the sky hasn’t been as bright the past few nights. Also double checking the star maps, there a several stars out of place ………….
Luna noticed Celestias face grow concerned. “Is everything alright? She’s not hurt is she? Does she need help?”
Looking up from the scroll, “It’s nothing to worry about Lulu, she said with a small nervous laugh like a filly who was caught doing something they shouldn’t be.
“Then let me see the scroll Tia” Luna said playfully with a smirk.
“There is no need for” just then Luna jumped up and tackled Celestia to the ground, taking the scroll in her magic she made a run for it. Needing a little distraction, she saw her opportunity.
“LUNA! Give that back!” Celestia shouted running after Luna.
“Never! Mwahahahahahaha”, and with that the game of tag had begun. Racing around the castle. It was after it had closed day court, and before night court so nopony was there except for staff who were always entertained when stuff like this happened. Finally catching up to Luna, Celestia tackled her into a somersault, wrestling around like school fillies again, she managed to get the scroll back, and teleported before Luna could regain her breath.
“Whew that was close. I need to make a note to have her and Rainbow dash hang out and wear off some of her never ending energy. Hopefully she will go straight to my room to look for me. She would never think to look in the guards chambers.”.
“Um princess? Is everything alright?” a few guards asked concerned by the sudden appearance
“Yes, I am simply playing a game of hide and seek with Luna. If she asks then tell her that I went to the kitchens please.” Knowing it wasn’t unusual for the princess to pull stunts like this since she returned, they agreed and hid her in Shining Armors old room. After about 10 minutes Luna appeared
“Have you seen my sister? She disappeared on me and I can’t seem to find her anywhere.” Accidentally smearing her evil grin, the guards knew the game was still going.
“She went to the kitchens ma’am” two guards explained.
“Thank you very much”. she said teleporting off.
“Think she bought that?” A third guard asked the first two.
“CELESTIA GIVE ME THAT SCROLL!”. They all jumped at the sound of the royal Canterlot Voice.
“JUST TRY AND TAKE IT LUNA! I DARE YOU!!” in a shout. Knowing the damage of her royal Canterlot voice she didn’t dare use it. After they saw a flash of light one of the guards looked in the room to discover the room empty.
“Here we go again”
Now what am I suposed to do?
“We have healed her to the best of our abilities. Her ribs have been repaired along with all of the lacerations along her body. Her fever is gone and she is expected to wake up anytime now. She is extremely lucky that you were there, and got her to us when you did. One more day and she wouldn’t have survived.” The doctor told Luna when she came for a report. It had been two long days since she was discovered. Luna hasn’t eaten or slept then entire time. She doesn’t know why she is like this. They have helped others for so long. Its just something about her seemed to have a connection to Luna. Like she was her daughter.
“Thank you doctor. Is there anything you require from me?"
“As a matter of fact Princess there is. Just sit here and I’ll be right back” Pulling out a chair next to Cosmics bed and walking out of the room. Curiosity peaked Lunas interest so she did as she was told and sat down. Waiting patiently for his return she heard a low, groan as the filly started shifting slightly.
“Ouch, bright lights” Cosmic said starting to open her eyes. Laughing a little Luna dimmed the lights. It was just like she has fallen asleep. Not in a coma for the past three days.
“Well hello there. I’m am very happy to see you awake.” Luna said with a warm smile
“Oh, ummm hi again princess” Cosmic whispered. “How long have I been asleep?
Luna saw her starting to try and sit up “Woah there, just lay down until the doctor comes back. You have been asleep for three days that we know of. How are you feeling?”
“Three days? Really? I’m feeling good. I’m surprised I was expecting to be hurting a lot after being thrown into a tree by a hydra” She said laughing a little. Never thinking she would ever have to say that.
“The doctors have been using magic to heal you. I doubt there is even a scratch, although I wouldn’t be surprised if you are feeling slightly dizzy.
” “I am a little dizzy, but It should pass.” Closing her eyes to take in everything that happened she started thinking about what she was going to do from this point on. Luna couldn’t help but smile at the sight, relieved.
“Ok Princess” The sound of the doctor's voice made Luna jump.”
“Doctor the filly” the princess started
“She is alright I assure you, but you need to eat something.” He explained setting a large tray of food down on the table. “I was alerted by the Kitchens that you have not eaten since this whole thing started. Even for a Alicorn that is not healthy” He said interrupting Luna.
“Doctor the filly is awake” Luna said almost shouting
“What? Why didn’t you say so sooner?” The doctor ran up to Cosmic and sure enough she was awake
“I tried, then you got on me about how I need to eat.” She explained slightly amused..
“Well hello there. You had a lot of people worried. Do you know where you are?”
“The infirmary at Canterlot Castle.” Cosmic Light told him with a smile.
“Yes, how are you feeling? Does anything hurt?” The doctor started asking a bunch of questions. Luckily the filly was healthy again. “It is amazing how much you have recovered. Just lay there and I will get some lunch for you. You must be starving. Care to join me princess? I need to talk with you.”
“Yes it is a relief that you are ok. Of course doctor. Just stay here and rest until we return. Ok?” Giving the filly a hug
“Yes Princess” Cosmic said returning the hug. She watched as they walked out of the room. “What am I going to do now?” She asked herself trying not to cry.
“What did you need to talk to me about?”
“It’s just, she is well enough to be discharged from the hospital this afternoon, but I’m concerned. Where would she go? We don’t even know her name and we mainly just assume that she is from Canterlot, but since she was found in everfree then there is a strong possibility she could be from somewhere else.” He explained.
It was then that it hit Luna that she never thought about that. She was only focused on making sure she was ok, safe, and healthy. “I understand your concerns. I will admit that I hadn’t thought of that. Please don’t tell anyone. Also I will have a room ready for her here at the castle. I don’t think she is is of school age yet so we don’t have to worry about that yet. She is very smart though. I want to find out more about her, where she is from, family, why she ran away, and a few other things. If she is staying at the castle though then I will have to report to my sister everything that has happened. It is a conflict i’ve been deciding but I don’t really have a choice now. I am not letting her go outside by herself, or return who to a bad situation in which she did run away.
Woah“
Princess! Are you alright?”
“Yes doctor, I just got a little light headed. I will be ok though”
“Are you sure princess? Why don’t you go back and stay with the filly while I get her some lunch.”
“I’ll be alright for a little longer Doctor. The Kitchens aren’t far.”
“As you wish”. As they were coming back from the kitchens they noticed Celestia trying to spy on them from around the corner. Giggling to each other the doctor looked over to see her getting a idea. “Don’t even think about it. You are in no condition for one of your games right now”
“Yes doctor, I know. Just one little thing” Smirking her horn started glowing casting a unknown spell at the time. Looking at the doctor giving a ‘you better not have overdone’ look that she had become accustomed to seeing .
“What did you do to her anyways?”
“You’ll see in three, two, one,”
“LUNA!” Coming around the corner they saw Celestia had turned rainbow and her hair was black.
“I think you look better like that Tia” Luna said laughing and teleporting away.
“I’m sure it will wash out princess” the doctor attempted trying not to laugh. “Please get her back tomorrow though. She hasn’t eaten or slept in a few days and isn’t in the condition for a prank war. Also this gives you time to do one of your big pranks on her again. It’s been what? A month?”
"Very well. Is Luna alright? Why hasn’t she been taking care of herself? Do I need to talk with her?” The princess started asking obviously concerned.
“There is a project she has been working on. I’m confident she will talk to you about it very soon. Right now, I need to get her to eat something. I’m not at liberty to say anymore for your sister's personal reasons.” “I understand doctor, thank you and if you need anything from me i’m here.” The doctor sighed as he watched her walk away mentally slapping himself for saying something like that “Well that could have ended worse” he thought.
“Luna? Are you in here?”
“I’m right here doctor, I hid in case Celestia followed you.”
“Understandable, now sit down and eat before you fall over.” He said seriously and chuckling a little.
“Yes doctor” She sighed finally giving in. Sitting down she ate a salad, apple, piece of bread, a banana, and granola. She also downed a glass of water and apple cider. Laying down on one of the hospital beds she finally relaxed. Happy to see her finally eat and also almost asleep he just let her lay there. About five minutes later she was sound asleep. He didn’t complain. During that time Cosmic ate a salad and granola. Since she was so little it didn’t take much to fill her up. Not feeling tired yet she chose to read. A nurse brought her a few Daring Do books.
“Are you in school yet”
“No doctor, not yet. I am supposed to start next year.”
“How do you know how to read then? Most do not start reading books like that until they are in their third year of school.” He asked as he started cleaning up the room a little.
“My father taught me when I was very young. I kept up with it.”
“Where is your father now?”
“He’s gone. He is a soldier in the Royal Guard. I haven’t seen him in a few years. I’m sorry doctor but I don’t really want to talk about this.”
“That is perfectly fine. I understand completely. Can you tell me your name?” “I’m sorry I can’t.”
“Ok. I have to go tend to a few other patients. Let me know if you need anything.”
“Yes doctor, thank you.” She acted like she started reading again until he left the room. When the door closed she got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. She looked at herself in the mirror and let a tear roll down her cheek. She thought to herself “I can’t tell anyone my name. It’s too dangerous and they will find me. What if I come up with a fake name? That might work. But what would I call myself? A name represents the person, but I don’t know who I am. I remember the day I got my cutie mark, but I’m so different. Everyone keeps trying to change me also, do I really need to change? Wait change like new life. A lotus flower resembles new life, and my cutie mark represents the night sky. What about Night Lotus? That could work.” Finishing her rant to herself, she washed her face and headed back before anyone noticed she was missing. She laid down again and decided to take a nap. She was used to sleeping all day and it was only the afternoon. There was still a few more hours before sunset even began. The doctor came back in to find both of them fast asleep. Turning off the lights in the room so only a small emergency light was left on, he shut the door. “Who ever she is, I have a feeling this won’t be the last time I see her.
Cosmic light woke up to find Luna was gone.
“Well hello there, did you have a nice nap?” She turned around to see the doctor smiling.
“Yes I did, thank you.” Stretching her stiff muscles and starting to climb out of the bed. It was then he could tell she was hungry again but didn’t want to say anything.
“Give me a second and I’ll get you something to eat” Smiling “Thank you doctor. How did you know?”.
"It's my job" He replied walking out
Going down to the dining room he noticed the princesses eating. “Princess Luna?”
“Hmm oh hello doctor. Is everything well?”
“Yes, I wanted you to know she woke up from her nap. Should I bring her here or should I just take her something?"
“Lulu who is he talking about?” Celestia asked completely out of the loop
“Bring her here. I have a room ready afterwards. I haven’t talked to Tia yet, but I will explain everything tomorrow. Right now I think it would be best to get her out of that room and into a different environment.”
“Yes princess I agree entirely. I will escort her here for you. It isn’t far.” They watched him leave.
“Lulu, who is he talking about?”
“He is talking about a filly. I will explain everything tomorrow.”
“What is her name?”
“I don’t know.”
“Did you ask her” Celestia starting to peak curiosity. First Luna starts acting weird, and now a filly appears? Its almost like the time she…..no it can’t be the same.
“Yes, she won’t tell me. I can tell she is shy around most people. I’ll work on it though. She is very unique. She hasn’t even started school yet, but she is very smart, knows how to read, and has her cutie mark.”
“Already? That is different” Hearing the door open again they decided to continue the conversation later. The doctor walked in with Cosmic light. Celestia was amazed at the appearance. She looked a lot like Luna did when she was a filly. She was very short and skinny for someone of her age, and sure enough she had a cutie mark. “Come sit with us my little pony” Celestia said in a warm smile. Not even being able to talk she just smiled and wordlessly spoke thank you.
“Are you hungry?” Luna asked knowing the answer already. She nodded her head yes and within a minute a plate full of food and a juice appeared in front of her. Silently eating Celestia and Luna continued talking among themselves about different things that were far beyond her understanding. It was because of this she didn’t realize that they were still talking about her. Celestia looked at her and smiled “How is your food?”
“Good” she whispered."
“Can you tell me a little about yourself?” The sun princess asked knowing that a lot of shy fillies started warming up after talking and also this could help piece together a little bit of the situation.
“Ummm well, my favorite color is blue, my favorite animal is a dragon, and I love reading.” She was careful with the what she chose to tell them. That shouldn’t give away anything of importance.
“What is your name?”
Thinking carefully she sighed “My name is………” after a brief moment she made up her mind. “Night Lotus”
“That is a beautiful name." Luna commented finishing her dinner. Seeing the look of guilt in her eyes both princesses knew that most likely was a fake name. After all why would she give up her name all of a sudden? It gave them something to go on, and to call he. “Night Lotus, I have had a room prepared for you. It is getting late. The moon is about to rise.”
"Ok. Thank you princess.”. After they were done eating, Luna showed Cosmic the room that she will be staying in.
“If you need anything at all, I will be in the big room at the bottom of those stairs.” She gestured to a flight of stairs leading down. “Good night Night Lotus”
“Good night Princess”. After about an hour, she couldn’t sleep, and had finished her book. She noticed that Luna was arranging the stars and wanted a better view. She snuck outside and decided to lay in the gardens and watch.
“Night Lotus? Why are you out here?” Jumping at the sound of Celestias voice she looked up again at the sky,
“I love this time of the night when your sister does the stars. I wanted a better view then out my window.” she explained.
“Come with me please. I can take you to a even better area” Getting up she followed Celestia to Luna's room. Hearing someone knocking at the door sparked Lunas curiosity. No one bothered her this time of the night.
“Hello you two. Shouldn’t you be in bed dreaming?”
“I was just about to and noticed her in the gardens. She wanted to have a good view of the sky to see all the stars. I hoped she could watch here?”
“Of course, then it is off to bed. Ok night?”
“Yes princess” She smiled like it was her birthday. While the princess was working she was giving a small lesson talking about the constellation and different celestial bodies. What stars really were, and why they shine in the night. Luna was amazed that Cosmic light had been able to follow everything. She thought to herself “mental note, introduce her to Twilight Sparkle”. After a moment of silence, Luna was a little over halfway done. “So what does your cutie mark mean? I’ve never seen one like that before.”
“Its hard to explain, but I can show you. That is of course if you want help.”
“Of course, I love demonstrations! What would you help me with though?”
“Please don’t tell anyone yet. I’m still trying to learn myself.” With that her horn flashed and she arranged a group of stars into the Ursa Minor constellation. Finishing moving the last star she fell to the ground out of breath. She loved moving the stars but it took a lot out of her. Looking at Luna standing there in shock. “Princess? Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I really need to introduce you to Twilight.” Luna said looking lost.
“Huh?” A confused Cosmic Light just had to look up at what she had done and smile. “It’s been too long.”
“Princess? Princess? PRINCESS LUNA!” Cosmic found herself shouting trying to get Luna back in reality. “Maybe I should have given her a little more of a warning first?” She asked herself. Looking up to luna, she started to get worried. “Was it too much of a shock?”
Finally snapping back to reality, Luna just allowed her mind to race. Confused and feeling like she just had 10 cups of espresso her mind was having trouble fighting back all the questions racing in her hurting brain. “How? How did you do that? A filly of your age should barely be able to do anything above levitation. I’m the only one who has ever been able to move stars. Can you also move the moon? Do you have control of other celestial bodies? Can you move the sun? How long have you been able to do this? How did you discover you can do this? What did you……..”
“Princess, I’ll try and explain everything I know. As I mentioned before though; i’m still learning about my talent” Cosmic Light interrupted and trying not to laugh at how she had managed to break the princess. “It’s kind of a long story though.” she looked rather shy and adorable at the prospect of even being able to talk to someone about it.
Seeing how the filly reacted, she decided to give her some time to figure out what to say. Smiling she put her wings around her and brought her in for a hug. “We don’t have to talk about it now. How about tomorrow night? I was hoping we you can show my sister, and also this way you only have to explain once. It will also give you more time to think” She smiled warmly
“How did you know?” Looking rather shocked like Luna had just read her mind; which was racing trying to figure out how to explain her special talent. Luna was the only pony she had ever showed; not even her family had seen it.
“I can see through your soul” She replied with a evil smile before tickling Cosmic Light. Cosmic burst up laughing. “Oh, you’re ticklish I see. Good to know.” Smirking a little she continued her ‘assault’ on the poor filly. Finally stopping after a minute; she gave her a neither hug.
“What was that for?” Cosmic asked trying to catch her breath
“That was for playing with my stars”. All of a sudden it something in her mind clicked. “Are you the one who rearranges some of the smaller constellations? Celestia keeps telling me that I was the one doing it when I nap.”
Looking rather guilty she nodded her head and started backing away. “I’m sorry, I forget to put them back sometimes” she whispered knowing what was about to happen.
Smirking’ Luna started walking towards Cosmic with a “I’m going to tickle you again” look. “Eeeepppppp” She squealed before dashing out of the room. Running to her room, it felt like a game of tag to her, and her room was the safe place.
“Night Lotus, get back here!” Luna laughed as she chased the filly down the hall. Thinking it was unfair to use her magic to pick her up, she settled with just running, completely forgetting about her wings. It was then she saw Cosmic turn into her room and shut the door. “So thats how you’re going to play it; huh?” smiling she opened the door to try and catch her.
Before Luna had entered the room, Cosmic decided to levitate herself up and hide in the corner of the ceiling. “She never will see me up here” she told herself. After all, why would you look for a unicorn in the air?
Catching a glimpse of her out of the corner of the eye, she did her best to not show a “got you” smile, and pretended to look all around the room, purposely not looking up. “Well I guess shes not in here. I could have sworn I saw her run in here though.” Putting on her best act, she walked out of the room, cast a invisibility spell, and teleported back into the room.
Laughing Cosmic lowered herself back down. “It worked! It worked! How did that actually work? I was sure she would see me eventually.”
“GOT YOU” The invisible luna said in a playing manner, but sharp and fast so it sounded like one word. The sudden voice caused Cosmic to lose her balance and fall backwards. Laughing the invisible Luna started a tickle attack again. It wasn’t until she was done that she finally dropped her disguise.
Trying to recover from the attack Cosmic just laid there and giggled. “Awww, how did you do that?” She asked in as straight of a face as she could manage
“It’s a secret” she told Cosmic with a big smile. Feeling like a little kid herself. Sitting down next to her, they both looked at each other and started laughing again. “Ok Night Lotus, it is late, and you need to get some sleep.” She said in a soft motherly tone
“But it’s still dark outside!” Cosmic tried to argue with a sad face like she was in trouble.
“Exactly, it’s dark outside. Little ones sleep when it is dark outside” Luna explained chuckling a little at actually having this conversation.
Cosmic looked at the ground and her ears went back. “I’m not even tired. I usually sleep during the day, and stay awake at night. I always have.” She explained. Looking up to a shocked and confused princess, she thought fast. “I can try and sleep at night, but I only can when i’m really tired, and it usually isn’t very long. Few hours at the most.”
“That is very unusual. Most sleep during the night, and are awake in my sisters day. How do you stay awake at night? Even for the older ponies who work at this time, have trouble staying awake.” The princess asked curiously using her hoof to lift the filly's chin up so she can see her eyes.
Thinking for a moment Cosmic looked up and smiled. “I’m not sure how I stay awake at night time. I have ever since I received my cutie mark. It feels more natural then staying awake in the day time. I try once in a while to stay up all day, but I usually fall asleep.” She admitted. “I know i’m different, but it has to mean something. Maybe it has something to do with my talent?” She asked, partly for Luna but mainly for herself as she started getting lost in thought again.
“Honestly, at this point, I don’t think anything can shock me anymore then you moving stars. Are you hungry?” Finally getting her to start opening up a little bit more, she thought that she should keep it up. A snack seemed like a good place to start next.
“A little, but I’ll be ok until morning.” Cosmics’ ears went back involuntarily as she remembered all of the nights she had gotten in trouble for sneaking a snack.
Laughing a little at her sudden change, she lifted Cosmic up in her magic and put her on her back. “Non sense. Lets get a snack. Don’t tell anyone but the kitchens always have little things set aside for me to eat. I like to snack rather then eat a meal.” Thinking for a moment, she needs simple questions to help the her keep warming up. “What’s your favorite food?”
“It has to be a tie between strawberries and mangos” she finally said after a moment of thinking. “What’s yours?”
“Hmmm, thats a tricky one. I suppose mine has to be hayburgers.”
“Really? I would think a princess ate nicer meals then hayburgers” Cosmic said giggling at the thought.
“They usually do, but I would take a hayburger or salad any time.” Giggling like a school filly, she remembered all those times when the kitchens would get annoyed at her for things like that. How they would say ‘it’s not princess like’, or her favorite, ‘how would Princess Celestia feel about you eating junk like this, rather then a nice balanced meal?’ Finally getting to the kitchens she tried to sneak in the back. “No need to bother them, if we’re just getting something small” she had thought to herself.
“Can I help you Princess?” One of the Chiefs said causing Luna to freeze like she had been caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to. “Didn’t we talk about this? If you need anything we would be more then happy to get it for you.” He said with a ‘don’t try that again’ smile and tone.
“Yes yes, I know. We were just looking for something to snack on.” She explained looking around to see what looked good. Of course everything caught the eye of the princess. Luna has a incredibly fast metabolism, so she was always hungry.
“We?” It was just then that he noticed Cosmic Light. “Well, who have we here?” He said with a warm smile. Cosmic couldn’t help herself but blush as her ears went back, and she tried to make herself look small, causing Luna to let out a little laugh.
“This is Night Lotus. I apologize for her behavior. She’s rather shy, if you can’t tell.” Looking over her shoulder at Cosmic only made the filly blush deeper.
“Thats perfectly ok. She actually reminds me a lot of one of Solar Guards kids. He is always talking about her on his break, I can tell that he misses her. It’s been almost 3 years now, if I remember right since he saw her last. His ex wife kicked him out, so he has been living here in the barracks with a few others and I don’t think they talked since he left. Thats enough of that though, it’s not my place to tell others about someone's personal life” The chief said rather quickly remembering that Cosmic was there.
“Is the Guards name Shimmer Steel?” Cosmic asked without thinking it through
“Yes. How did you?” The chief asked looking at Luna who was equally shocked.
“I’ve heard about him before from a few others in my hometown” She said quickly but also thinking carefully not to give anything away.
“Ok then” Sounding like he didn’t really believe the story, but wanting to drop it Cosmic sighed in relief.
“If they knew, then I’ll be in huge trouble. He can’t know i’m here, although I didn’t look like me last time he saw me, so I should be safe” Cosmic told herself not even paying attention to the others.
“Night?” Shocking the filly out of her mental debate, she jumped and almost fell off Lunas back.
“Umm, yes?” She said trying to find her equilibrium again.
“I asked you what you wanted to snack on?” he explained looking concerned at her change of behavior.
“Surprise me?” She asked in a suggestive tone. He just nodded and walked away, knowing exactly what to bring her. Walking over to the table, Luna bent down to allow Cosmic to get off. “Princess, whats going to happen to me?” She asked out of no where. Her mind was racing since hearing about the soldier.
Just as surprised, Luna thought for a moment. “To be honest, most likely we are going to try and find your family. If there is any reason why we shouldn’t then you should tell me, and I will figure something out. It is too dangerous for you to be living by yourself. Until then, you can stay here with me and my sister.” She did her best to have a comforting smile, but some concern managed to sneak out as she started mentally hitting herself for being so straight with her. Any progress she made might have been lost.
“Thank you princess, and I’ll be ok by myself. As long as I stay away from the forest that is” She said chuckling. After a moment Luna noticed she looked really sad again, this time like she was about to cry. Cosmic started thinking about the past, and why she ran away in the first place. “I can’t go back! I just can’t!” She told herself in a whisper. “I’ll be ok by myself. I’ll be ok by myself. I’ll be ok by myself.” She started repeating it over and over again without even noticing a tear come down her face. Luna put her wing around her and gave her a warm hug.
“I don’t know what happened, but you can stay here as long as you like. Nothing can hurt you while I’m here. I promise. I won’t push you, but I hope you will talk with me, when you are ready?” Luna asked loosing her grip a little so they could look at each other.
Sniffling a little and trying to dry her eyes Cosmic nodded. “I know, thank you princess. I don’t know if I can talk about it though. I’m so sorry.”
“There is no reason to be sorry Night Lotus.” Giving a neither tight hug, she let go just as the chief brought out food. A bowl of cut up fruit and berries, two cups of ice cream, and two non-alcoholic apple ciders. “Thank you Chief, this looks delicious”. Luna complimented as she started going for the ice cream.
“Yes, thank you chief. It looks yummy” Cosmic whispered trying her best to try and talk.
“Oh Princess Luna?”
“Yes?”
“You better eat some fruit too, not just the Ice cream. If you don’t i’m giving Celestia your cake” The chief said with a laugh. Sighing Luna took the bowl of fruit and put some over her ice cream. The chief walked away with a smile. Knowing her weakness and her diet, he could get her to eat just about anything.
Using her magic, she took out everything but the berries and ate them. She then used her magic to stir the berries into the ice cream and gave it to Cosmic. “Here, try a bite of this”. As told she took her spoon in her magic and took a bite. Luna saw a big smile and she went for a second. Laughing she handed Cosmic the bowl, took hers, and did the same thing. After they finished and talked a little bit longer, Luna and Cosmic finished eating and started leaving. Noticing Cosmic getting tired, she let her ride on her back again. “How about we go to my room? I have game we can play. Noticing the filly brighten up and the mention of games, she already knew the answer. She was running late, and the moon should be around five o’clock, instead it was still at eleven o’clock. “Ooops. Tia is going to kill me if she finds out” she told herself laughing a little Setting the Cosmic down on her bed, she walked over to the window and lowered the moon where it was supposed to be. “Do you like checkers?”
“I love playing checkers.” Cosmic said trying to sound energetic. She wasn’t fooling the princess though. Over the next hour, they played checkers, and a few other games. It was then she heard a knock on the door.
“Enter” she called, having a gut feeling she knew exactly who was on the other side.
“Good morning Lulu, I was wondering if you would finish lowering the moon.” Celestia said mildly amused and annoyed. Jumping up Luna noticed the moon was where she put it a hour ago.
“Sorry Tia, got distracted” She said with a ‘busted’ smile. “I’m going to get her to bed, and then I will join you in the dining hall.”
“Night Lotus has been up all night? Luna, what were you thinking! Shes just a filly.” Getting on her like she was Cosmics mother.
“I’ll explain everything I know over breakfast.” Luna said defensively. It was then she looked over and noticed that Cosmic had fallen asleep on her bed next to the game pile. “Should I take her to her room, or should I just let her sleep here?” She meant to ask that to herself but accidentally said it out loud.
“Let her sleep here. It is obvious you two have bonded, which will be very good for her in the long run. She is still trying to get used to things around here.” Celestia said with a smile.
“Your right. Lets go to the dining hall.” Using her magic, Luna moved the games, and covered up the filly with a small but very soft blanket so she wouldn’t get cold. “Have wonderful dreams, little one”
Explain please
The two of them walked out of Lunas bedroom and started walking twards the cafateria for Lunas dinner and Celestias breakfast. Celestia
"So who is she Lulu?" could tell that Luna was exhusted, but she needed answers.
"Wow, jumping right into it, huh Tia?" Luna teased while looking behind her to the bedroom, witch only made Celestia more curious.
"Yes. First you start acting weird, then you need solar guards for a secret project, then a filly shows up out of no where." She explained with more then a hint of concern in her voice.
"I'll explain everything during our meal. I need to figure out how to explain the past events."
"Very well. You have until they kitchens bring out our food."
"Thank you Tia." Sighing in relief, she had a few more minutes to figure it out. "Should I tell her everything, or just the important part. Should I explain her talent, or let her show Tia? What am I thinking, of course I'm going to let her just show her." Laughing a little at what happened with her, she has to wonder how Celestia would react. "Ok, I'll explain what I can, but I don't know If I should explain certain things. I guess I'll figure it out as I'm explaining."
"Luna, food is here. Now explain."
"When did that happen? Weren't we just walking a minute ago?"
"You zoned out again."
"Oh, sorry, I have a lot on my mind."
"I understand. Now please? The longer you put it off, the more confused you are going to make yourself" Celestia explained with a small chuckle, knowing Luna a little too well.
"She calls herself Night Lotus, although I have a feeling that isn't her real name. I saw her last week in the everfree forest. I managed to save her from a hydra. Unfortunately she had disappeared while I chased it away. Four days later, the guards I sent out on a search party managed to find her, and she was brought here and taken care of. She was in a comatose state for a while though. I met her in her dream, and she refused to tell me anything of major importance outside of how she received her injuries. That happened the night I found her originally. The hydra had hurt her by throwing her into a tree. Outside of that I don't know about her past, but there must be a reason she doesn't want anypony to find out who she is. Later that night we were talking with the night chief who mentioned that Night reminded him a lot about one of your guards kids. He said that he and his wife had gotten into a fight and he was kicked out. He hadn't seen his daughter in years."
Closing her eyes to take in all the information, she took a deep breath, but remained silent for a few moments. "That, is very interesting. It reminds me of...."
"I know. That is why I was hesitant on bringing it up at first."
"Out of curiosity, why did you tell me about the conversation with the chief? A similarity won't help us figure out who she is."
"I agree entirely. The reason I told you is because after we finished talking, she knew which soldier he was talking about. Out of your hundreds of guards, what is the likelihood? She attempted to explain that she heard other kids talking about him in her hometown, normally that would be very believable, but why would they talk about that one in particular. Honestly, I'm not even sure who he is."
"So you think there is a connection? Perhaps she is related to him, but what if she was being truthful, and it was just filly talk?"
"She is a night pony like me." Luna explained trying not to get to lost in thought. "If she spends her time awake at night, when would she be capable of making friends her age who would know about solar guards?" Explaining her method of thinking was helping her try to put things together herself. It was like a giant puzzle, and to find the pieces, you had to solve a riddle.
"Perhaps we should find this guard and ask about his daughter?"
"Yes, we just started eating, so maybe if he could be summoned quickly?"
"I wasn't thinking right now, but I suppose it would be best. The quicker we figure out this puzzle, the better. What is his name?" Celestia asked taking a sip from her apple cider.
"Shimmer Steel."
"Shimmer Steel? He is one of my top guards, and if I remember correctly he lives in the barracks." Looking the direction of the two guards who stood guard while the princesses ate she spoke up "Can you summon Shimmer Steel please? He should be in the Solar barracks." Both guards saluted and left to go find him. "Is there anything else I should be aware of?"
"Not at this time, I told you everything I know." Accidently smirking Celestia knew Luna was holding something back. She never was good at lying.
"I know that's not everything, but I suppose you will tell me when you feel the moment is right." Celestia told her sighing. After all this time, and she still keeps secrets from her, but this was a very confusing time so she let her slide.
"I won't, but she will."
Before Celestia could reply back, the guards came back with Shimmer Steel."
"Come sit with us Lt. Steel" with that command he walked over nervously and sat next to Celestia.
"Thank you princesses" The chief noticed the new arrival and a plate of food was in front of him in less then a minute. "Did I do something wrong?"
Celestia looked at him with a gentle smile. "No of course not. You are one of my top guards., we just had needed to talk to you for a moment."
"About what?" Steel asked now that his anxiety was finally calming down.
Luna spoke up this time "We were curious about your daughter." she replied with a warm smile that allowed his anxiety to calm down a little more.
"Oh. Alright then, what did you want to know?"
"We were wondering her name, and perhaps if you had a picture of her." Celestia replied. Knowing him, Celestia knew that being straight forward like that was the best way to approach it.
"Her name is Cosmic Light. I find it ironic because she looks more like a Sun Lilly in my opinion." He replied chuckling a little. He pulled out a picture to show them. The filly was as white as Celestia with a gray mane and tail, and no cutie mark. She did have the same body shape and similar mane cut as Night Lotus. "She is very shy, but she likes watching the stars, and she loves reading." He continued putting the picture back away in his armor. "I haven't seen her in a few years, so she most likely has changed. I don't really keep in touch with her mother."
"She sounds like a very unique girl." Luna told him, but in her mind, she was comparing the similarities. It was almost as if they were twins. "If you don't mind me asking, what split you and your wife up? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, I know it's personal."
"We split up because we wanted two different things. I wanted to stay here and help protect the princess and everypony else. Unfortunately because I would be away so long, Cosmic Light had to stay with her mother who wanted to travel. To find a new city." He explained
Noticing the guard getting upset Celestia spoke up. "Thank you, I know this can't be easy for you Steel."
"If you don't mind me asking, why did you want to know about my wife and daughter?" Luna explained how they found a filly that was very similar to his daughter and was trying to learn new ways to get her to open up, and maybe return her to her family if she had one. After giving her a few suggestions he hoped would help, he finished eating, then got up to go back to the barracks. He had to get ready for his shift."
"Lt. Steel?" Celestia said trotting up to meet him for a privet conversation
"Yes Princess Celestia?"
"Why don't you take today off. I was wondering if you might be able to make a list for my sister. With Night Lotus so similar to Cosmic Light, you would know better then my sister how to handle her."
"Of course princess, but I can do the list after my shift."
"I would hope it would be ready before she wakes up tonight. Besides, you work hard, a day off can be good for you."
"Yes, thank you princess." With that he was off.
"What did you say to him Tia?" Luna asked curiously
"You'll see when you wake up." She replied with a "I know something you don't know" grin that she only let Luna see. "Why don't you go get some sleep. You have been up for days." Agreeing Luna said good day and went to bed. Night Lotus was still sound asleep, but as soon as Luna got into bed she shifted in so she could snuggle with her like a foal with her mother and making Luna smile.
"I'm going to help you. I promise" She whispered before drifting off to sleep.
Celestia was in the middle of day court and decided to take a break for some lunch. She was just about to leave when she heard a knock at the door. "Enter" she called out.
"Princess I have that list for you, if you want to look over it."
"Oh thank you Lt. I'll be sure to give it to her. Did you enjoy your day off?"
"Yes princess, it was actually nice for once. I don't remember the last time I had a day off. Also if you need help with the filly at all, just let me know. I'll be more then willing to help." He said with a warm smile as memories of his daughter came back.
"I will be sure to keep that in mind. Thank you."
"No need to thank me." They both walked out together, Shimmer Steel to go take a nap, and Celestia to get lunch. Although in the back of Steels mind, he was wondering what made them think of his daughter.
Luna stirred as someone knocked on the door. Careful not to wake Night Lotus she got up gently and opened the door. "Yes?"
"Princess Luna, my apologies for waking you but Princess Celestia asked for us to wake you so you wouldn't sleep all night." The Solar guard answered
"Night?" It was then Luna noticed it was night. "Did Celestia raise the moon in my place?"
"Yes princess, but as I quote "You can do those stupid stars. This past year they always change on me and it is her job anyways."
Laughing Luna realized that Night must have done that. "Yes very well. Thank you."
"She also asked for you and the filly to meet her for your meal when you have finished."
"Actually could you ask her to come to my room? I have something she needs to see." She said with a mischievous smile.
"Of course" and the guard left.
Luna walked up to the bed and watched the filly for a moment. She looked so peaceful sleeping there, with not a care In the world. "Night Lotus? Sweetie it's time to wake up" Luna said softly placing a hoof on her shoulder
"Hmmm, Oh hello princess. What's going on?"
"It's time to wake up."
"Good night" Cosmic told her while stretching and giving Luna a hug trying to wake up some. She might be a filly, but she was acting like a teenager.
"Good night, Night. Do you still want to show my sister your talent?"
"Yes, hopefully she won't freeze up like you. Although it would be funny if she did." Cosmic light said trying not to laugh at the memory.
"I will admit that would be amusing" Luna said trying not to laugh like a school filly pulling a prank herself. "She will be here any moment. After we need to get you cleaned up, and then go and get food. Sound good?"
"Yes princess, thank you."
Both jumped slightly when they heard a knock on the door. "Lulu it's me."
"Enter Sister. You arrived faster then I would have thought."
"I actually took my time. You must have just gotten lost talking." Celestia explained smiling a little as she thought "Maybe this filly would be good for Luna, if she stays around for a little longer." Shaking her head Celestia finally asked "So why did you want me to come to your room?"
"Night Lotus has something to show you." She explained trying not to show her "I know something, you don't know" grin.
Luna looked over to the filly and noticed she had gone pale and was slightly shaking. She knew the filly was scared, but would calm down a lot after she had shown Tia her talent. "It's alright Night. You don't have to show her if you don't want to right now." Knowing that she was going to no matter what., that filly was as stubborn as Rainbow Dash when being challenged.
"No, I want to" Trying to not let fear seep into her voice, she got out of the bed and slowly walked over to the princesses by the door.
The three of them went out to the balcony and Luna kneeled down to whisper to Night. "I'll do the first five, and then you take over. See how long it takes before she realizes. Stand behind us, and keep going as long as possible." Nodding in agreement, she backed up slightly so she would be just barely in Celestia peripheral vision. Starting to charge her horn Luna took it as a sign she was ready to go. "This is going to be fun"
"What is going to be fun?" Celestia asked very confused at what was going on.
"Just watch." She started arranging the starts. First star was done, the second star, third, fourth, and lastly fifth. With that done she got the sixth one moving to help the filly, and she took over. Celestia watched the starts, and it wasn't until Cosmic light had finished her fourth star, that Celestia noticed something off. The stars where slightly shaking.
"Are you alright Luna?" Looking over she noticed her sisters horn wasn't glowing. It was then she looked behind to a smiling filly. Barely putting two and two together before her world went black.
"Tia? TIA!" Luna called out trying to wake a unconscious Celestia.
Cosmic fell in exhaustion before running over to check on Celestia. "Is she going to be ok?"
"Yes. I'm going to move her to my bed until she wakes up. It shouldn't be too long, and in the mean time you need a bath before we go and get something to eat."
"Ok princess. Who will finish the stars though?"
"I will. I have a spell that will allow them to arrange themselves. I do not like doing it because they don't always do it correctly, and Celestia calls it cheating, but I think under these circumstances it will be alright." With that Luna cast her spell and the picked up Celestia in her aura and carried her to her bed. After getting her comfortable they went to Lunas bathroom. She filled up the bathtub about a quarter of the way with warm water. It was the perfect amount for the filly, maybe even a little too much. Lifting her into the water Cosmic started laughing. "What's so funny?"
"I was secretly hoping she would have a reaction similar to yours, but this was even better." Cosmic explained giggling.
"I agree, that was priceless. I never would have imagined she would faint like that." Luna said trying not to laugh as the memory came back. "Do you think we over did it, showing her like that?"
"No princess, that was a perfect plan. Although can it just be the two of you who know? I don't want it getting around that I have this talent." Not trying to sound like she was begging to keep her talent secret, she tried her best to sound like she just thought it was easier, and not that is would cause a lot of trouble for her, and the princesses.
"Of course. I won't tell anypony unless you want them to know, and I will make sure my sister is aware of this also."
"Thank you." With that Luna picked up a brush and started washing the filly. She knew that she was more then capable, but Night seemed to enjoy being treated like a filly, so Luna didn't mind. It was actually quite relaxing for Luna, she hadn't done something like this since a while before he banishment.
Cosmic just relaxed, it wasn't often that someone took care of her like this, and she enjoyed it a little more then she should have. "I've had to act like a adult for so long, and keep so many secrets, I should just enjoy being a filly for once, because I don't know when a opportunity like this will come again." Luna rinsed her off and used a towel to dry her off. Going back into the bedroom they noticed Celestia shifting a little.
"It seems like she if finally waking up. Perfect timing." Luna walked over to Celestia as she opened her eyes and Cosmic just stayed there, not wanting to get in the way. "About time you woke up" she teased her sister by pulling the blankets over her head.
Memories of what happened started flooding in. "How can a filly move the stars? How can anypony move the stars? I've, I've never heard of any talent like that, except for yours. Is it only the stars? Can she move other celestial bodies?" Starting to hyperventilate slightly amused Luna. It was a very rare sight to see.
"Your not going to faint on me again, are you Tia?"
"No, I'm alright."
"Good, and I do not know how she does it. I found out last night, but she must have a lot of built up magic."
"Agreed, not even Cadence and Twilight have that much energy stored up inside. It shouldn't be possible?"
"Agreed. That is enough of this for now. Oh, before I forget, she asked us not to tell anypony."
"That is for the best." Celestia agreed. This was a very powerful filly, and if the wrong people found out, it could put her in danger. "Is there anything I can do?"
"Can you brush Nights mane and tail? I need a quick bath before we go get our meal."
"Of course." With that Luna walked over to Cosmic light who was standing on the other side of the room.
"My sister is going to brush your mane while I take a quick bath. Is that alright? After we will get food., you must be starving."
"Yes princess, enjoy your bath. Is there anything I can do for you in the meantime?"
"Just stay out of trouble. Also stop calling me princess, just call me Luna." Looking up to Luna with a big smile, Cosmic hugged her before going over to Celestia.
Celestia secretly wanted to brush Night, thinking back to all those times she helped Twilight. "How are you tonight?"
"I'm good. How are you feeling?"
"I'm good. Out of curiosity, when did you learn about your talent?
"About a year ago." Cosmic explained after having to take a moment to think. It had been a long year.
"Wait, are you the one who moves the stars on me? It just started happening around a year ago. I always suspected Luna of doing it, but she always denied it." Leaning down to look Cosmic in the eye with a "Yeah I figured it out" look in her eyes.
"Yes, I'm sorry, but a few were always off. I wasn't trying to be mean, or rude. I was just trying to make it look al little nicer." After that Celestia nuzzled Cosmic the way a mother would her child, before finishing brushing her. A minute later Luna came out.
"Are you hungry?" Luna asked the filly while finishing brushing her own mane. Nodding, but looking like she didn't really want to admit it, Luna picked Cosmic up and put her on her back. "Let's go then."
Thinking to herself "Maybe they really can help me. Is it worth it though? I should at least tell them my real name." Lost in though she didn't even notice that she was starting to fall asleep again.
Celestia and Luna just smiled at her. "Lets get some food in her before she falls back asleep on us. It's going to be a long day."
"Think she would like a cup of coffee?" Luna asked without thinking
Celestias' glare told her all she needed to know.
