A Second Chance
A Day That Will Live in Infamy
Previous ChapterNext Chapter(December, 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii, Torian`s POV)
As Japanese aircraft swarmed in and the attack underway, We needed to get out of the open before a Zero comes in and strafes the ground but I couldn`t help but watch as a torpedo strikes the Oklahoma. Then a bomb explosion erupts upon the West Virginia and fires were set ablaze on her deck.
"Are those the Japanese aircraft, you`ve been shooting down?" Twilight asks as we began running for cover.
"Yes, and these are A6M Zero fighters, B5N Kate torpedo-bombers and D3A Val dive-bombers." I said as more hangers explode and more planes get destroyed. Then I decided I was going to do something I should have done during the attack.
"Twilight, you must retrieve my Sitar from my quarters and return it to Equestria." Twilight gasps and was about to protest as I cut her off. "Twilight we dont have time to argue, for all we know it could have been destroyed, Now its not far just head past the last 2 hangers and it should be on your left, Once inside just go down the hallway and the room should say 'B235' and it should be in the closet." I explained to her.
Twilight nodded before she asked. "Where are you going?"
"To do something, I should have done today, now go." was all I said as I ran to a jeep parked nearby as I started the engine and drove off. Twilight knew where to go and decided to do it and hope I wouldn`t get myself killed.
(Twilight`s POV)
As Torian left, I decided to go and retrieve his Sitar so I made my way over to his quarters. While running I heard the sounds of the Japanese planes roar overhead and dropping explosives on the ships docked nearby and one of them he called the 'Oklahoma' took so many water explosive hits and began rolling over on its left side.
But nothing seemed worse as the time I had reached the last hanger, A massive explosion onboard the 'Arezona' ignites and seemed as if it were about to break in 2.

"Dear sweet Celestia!" I whispered in horror as the ship burned. I knew that I would estimate hundreds were probably killed in the ship, Then Suddenly, the hanger behind me explodes and I ran inside the Quarters Bunker. I peeked out to see the hanger in twisted burning metal and a few humans on fire, screaming in pain. With a job to complete, I began looking for Torians room 'B235'.
"Wonder how things are holding up for him?" I thought to myself to hope that he was alright.
(Torian`s POV)
Driving out of Pearl Harbor, I began to drive to an airstrip that I know that wasn`t attacked, Ewa airfield. It was a 30 minute drive there and based on the accounts of eyewitnesses after the attack, it was one of the few that never got hit.
Once there, I parked the jeep and began searching for an aircraft that was combat-ready. In a hanger was a P-40 Kittyhawk fighter and I checked for fuel and ammunition and to my luck, there was enough fuel for about 1 hour and about 1500 rounds of 50 caliber ammunition.
I started up the engine and taxied the plane out of the hanger and onto the runway.
"Alright Golden, time to make history." I said to myself as I pressed the throttle and the planes began to pick up speed as she began to gain altitude.
As I was at 3000 ft I saw the smoke bellowing from the harbor. Looking down, I saw multiple ships on fire, sunk, or undamaged. I even saw the USS Nevada beached almost blocking the channel which could have had a serious effect in the future, The Oklahoma capsized, and the Arizona almost blown into oblivion. Now it was time for revenge as I set myself on a Japanese aircraft and fired a quick burst before he trailed smoke from his left wing and spiraled into the harbor.
"That`s for the Arizona you sushi-eating bastards!"
I had to keep moving so I wouldn`t end up as a target so I lined up and shot a Kate out of the sky, but he slammed into another Kate which was really cool as I was joined up by 2 other P-40 pilots Welch and Taylor and began fighting off the attacking Japanese fighters.
(Twilight`s POV)
As the sirens wailed from outside, I had found Torians room and found his sitar in the closet like he said, now all I had to do was get it back to Equestria, but as I looked at the clock on a wall, it was 8:20 am meaning the portal will close in 10 minutes and without my horn and magic, I wont be able to get us back.
"I hope Torian can keep track of time?" I hoped and ran out of the building right before another explosion erupts from the building, I felt extraordinarily lucky that I got out in time.
As I ran back to the portal, I tossed the Sitar through it and ran for cover as I saw 3 planes in a formation taking down the Japanese and as one flew in low, I was able to catch a glimpse of Torian inside one as he shot another plane which exploded in air. But then a Zero fighter got in behind him and was shooting at him until his plane caught fire from his right wing.
"Oh no!" I gasped as the Zero peeled off only to get killed by one of Torian`s allies.
I saw him once again but this time he was going slower touched the ground with a hard bump as the propeller bent back and the plane skidded across the runway and grinded to a halt. as the fire began to spread all I could do was watch until the canopy opened and the wounded warrior jumped out.
(Torian`s POV)
When I got shot down by that Zero, my right wing burst into flames and I was beginning to lose control. I also noticed that fuel was leaking inside the cockpit so I came down on Ford Island`s runway in a crash landing. I hit the ground and skidded for almost 100 ft before finally stopping, before hopping out of the aircraft. Just as I did, I quickly got up and ran over to Twilight just as the P-40 that got 6 enemy planes exploded into a fireball.
"Torian, Are you OK?" Twilight asked as she hugged me.
"Yeah, what about the sitar?" I asked.
"I put it through the portal, I was lucky enough to escape with it before your Quarters building exploded."
"OK, good." I said as I looked at the time and saw that it was 8:25 and the Japanese began to pull back, but this was only the first wave and with the second coming in, we had to get out fast. "Come on Twilight, lets go before the Japanese second attack wave comes."
We both leaped through the portal and I left a mark in American history, where I flew with the 2 American pilot heroes of Pearl Harbor as an Anonymous pilot and with 6 more kills, I could add that to my kill status on my F6F. But it was the most dastardly surprise attack in history and we lost 8 battleships, 3 cruisers, 3 destroyers, and over 2,403 American sailors and/or airmen killed.
(Golden Oaks Library, Equestria)
Finally returning to the world I call home, I looked at Twilight, who was once again a unicorn and saw the portal to my world close. My sitar was lying on the floor picked it up to see the inscription my dad wrote before he left. "To my brave little sailor, I know youll do great things and as a father, Ill always love you."
I gave Twilight a 'Thank you' look and gave her a tender embrace. "So what does that sound like, then we can talk about what happened at your world." Twilight asked as we broke the hug.
"I`d be glad to show you." I replied as I got into my playing position and played a little tune.

As I finished, Twilight was surprised by the way the instrument sounded and couldn`t help but look at the beautiful craftsmanship of a marvelous instrument.
"It sounds so amazing, no wonder you went back for it to get a job, I guarantee you`ll get that job." Twilight said happily.
"Thanks, and speaking of a job, thats where Ill be heading, Thank you Twilight for your help." I said as I left with my sitar and Twilight waved good-bye.
(December, 8, 1941)
"Yesterday, December,7th, 1941, -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.
Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong, Guam, Philippine Islands, Wake Island, and this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.
No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire."
