A Second Chance
A Live look at America`s Origins Part 2
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe ponies looked on the signing of the document to become a free nation, It certainly made a change in history and Britain as a few days later, King George III got upset with the document and decided to teach the colonists a lesson by sending in his British military.
Meanwhile, we transported to Boston where we looked on the bell tower and a man with his horse waiting patiently.
"So what`s going on now?" Vinyl asked looking around.
"Right now we are waiting for a signal." I replied with confidence.
"What kind of signal?" Luna asked. Afterwards 2 candles lite up in the tower and the man got on his horse and rode into the town shouting "The British are coming, The British are coming!"
"Thats the signal, 1 if by land 2 if by sea." I replied as the 2 illuminated candles in the bell tower signaled the British armys arrival. I typed in a new date and went to a historical mystery that has baffled Americans in the future.
(Lexington, Massachusetts, 1775)
On a sunny day in Lexington of April,19, The ponies first saw the American militia, where volunteered colonists were trained, but not as effective as the British.
"Welcome to our first battle of our revolution, The Battle of Lexington."
"There won`t be too much violence, will there?" Fluttershy squeaked.
"No, there was a low casualty count here, but this was a famous battle due to it`s mystery we are about to see." I said as the ponies looked on the 2 armies on far sides of each other and stood there. The anticipation was probably killing everyone, when a loud shot was heard and like a chain reaction, the battle commenced.
"Who fired first?" Rainbow asked.
"That is the question we`ve all been asking since then, but with no witnesses to see who fired, it became known as 'The Shot Heard from Around the World'." I replied as a few militia men fell and from the British only one laid dead.
"Fall Back men, Fall Back!" A men shouted and the militia retreated to Concord with the British advancing. I teleported us all to Concord and a few hours in the future and the battle commenced with more British falling. The militia then were stunned at the British`s retreat of Concord and had defended the ammunition storage.
"This was our revolution`s first victory and more would come because we knew the land far better than they did." I said as I time skipped over a few major battles like the Siege of Boston, Bunker Hill, Saratoga, and to the finally Yorktown, where the British finally surrendered and the Americans became a free nation.
"Is the war over?" Twilight asked.
"Yes, after 8 years of relentless fighting, The British finally surrender and the United States was born and new things began to prosper as we form our own government; A democracy." I said time skipping to George Washington`s presidency.
"Who`s that?" Lyra asked pointing at our first president.
"That my dear is George Washington, Our country`s first president. He was a great leader to our First Continental Army in the war and was voted as President." I explained as George finished his vows and is the president.
Soon we time skipped into the future and began explaining about the Bill of Rights and our Constitution. The ponies seemed to have a grasp on the concept of what America was trying to achieve and as the 1800s rolled in, it was time to introduce 'Manifest Destiny'.
(Louisiana, 1803)
We warped into Louisiana where we met Napoleon and Thomas Jefferson about to make a sale.
"Is that the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence?" Minuette asked.
"Yes, Thomas Jefferson is currently our 3rd President here and he is buying Louisiana from France." I answered.
"So other countries own the U.S?" Celestia asked.
"Yes, France, Spain, and Mexico all had territories in the U.S out West and the 'Louisiana Purchase' will be out biggest stepping stone to the Pacific." I explained as the sale was completed with Napoleon having $3 Billion and Jefferson 828,000 square miles of land.
As time progressed, We continued our Westward expansion and the cities began to industrialize with a few inventions of trains, steamboats and new machines to help up production in businesses. Farmers settled in the lands and new states were created, But a certain moment in this time caught my attention, the origins of the farm I was raised in. My ancestors signing the deed to the area and beginning to build up the farm I knew.
"This really touched my heart here, seeing my ancestors and the farm." I wiped a tear from my eyes.
"It`s alright sugarcube, This was a good moment since you get to see your ancestors in pon er person." Applejack said with a genuine smile.
"Applejack is correct darling, This has been a marvelous experience." Rarity concluded.
"Thank you, now who`s ready for some great moments in history?" I asked as the ponies were eager to learn about the United States. After showing them the Transcontinental Railroad, the increase of industry and the inventions of electricity, telegraph, and telephone, I portrayed some other bad moments like the health issues in the meat and cities, the decreasing population of Buffalo, and the Trail of Tears.
After passing the Texas Revolution, we entered the Civil War between the Confederate and Union armies. The first battles like Fort Sumter and New Orleans were gruesome since weapons advanced with the interchangeable parts and deadlier ammunition. But things took a turn as the Battle of Gettysburg commenced and President Lincoln made his 'Gettysburg Address' which changed the lives of many people.
Lincoln also made the Emancipation Proclamation to free all the African American slaves in a few states. The ponies were glad to see Lincoln and saw how great of a president he was. Then 2 years later, The Battle of Petersburg marked the end of the Confederate Army and the end of the Civil War.
"It seems the war has come to an end." Luna said as was signing the terms of surrender.
"Correct and the beginning of Americas reconstruction, but not for Lincoln though." I said sadly as we time skipped ahead to Lincolns assassination. John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln`s assassin shot the president behind his left ear and leapt onto the stage and began his getaway leaving the ponies in shock.
"Why would someone do such a thing?" Lyra cried as tears formed.
"Yeah, what did Lincoln do to deserve that?" Minuette held onto me as I petted her head.
"I`m not sure, Lincoln was the first president to be killed while in office and after his death, his Vice President became President, but he still help the United States become whole again and our technological and westward advance continued until we reached the Pacific and more states became annexed or formed." I explained and time skipped into the future as the United States was now under American control.
