A not so perfect winter wrap up
Ch4: Enter Dr. Wilchynski
Previous ChapterRarity moved swiftly through the room, grabbing all of her supplies and such. After she had seen the horrid thing... Not to mention the video, she had just wanted her traumatized mind off it. In only a few short hours she had designed three different dresses, and was now making them. But, no matter how hard she tried, the thing kept popping up in her mind. It was haunting her in its own way.
She shook her head in disapproval and stopped moving when she remembered the creature explaining what was going to happen to his friend, and then it happened. Her face was a sickly green by the time the now burnt in memory took its course.
"I'll be fine, I just need to stop worrying about tha-" Rarity didn't get to finish, as a loud knock at the door was heard,
"Coming Darling!" She shouted putting her tools down on the table. Walking over to the door, she opened it,
"Oh Twilight darling you look terrible, come in." Said Rarity smiling at her drowsy looking friend.
Twilight walked in, bags under her eyes,
"Rarity, we need to talk. I haven't told the others yet, right now I just need to get this off my chest." Said Twilight looking up, her face unexplainable.
"Yes darling? Is it about that... Thing?" Rarity asked sheepishly, still sickened by it. Twilight nodded,
"It's also about that... Doctor. Listen, after we started to head back to town I took that device. I didn't tell anypony, because I thought you would all disapprove. I watched the rest of it last night, I-I..." Twilight paused, looking Rarity strait in the eyes,
"That creature, is-is a parasite of sorts. And it kills anything in its path, I'm just waiting to hear back from princess Celestia. After we tell the others, we're going to hunt that thing down and stop it." Twilight finally finished, determination clear on her face along with a mixture of fear that she was so desperately trying to hide.
"Well... Right darling, go tell the others. The faster we can stop that monster the faster things can go back to normal." Said Rarity approving. Together they had faced many trials and tribulations, and had faced some of the greatest threats known to Equestria. But they had never dealt with something that was so willing to kill, never dealt with something that's sole purpose was to kill. It was scary to think on that night they found it, it could of easily killed them all.
Twilight left only a minute later, her mind set on one thing. To stop the creature.
"Berry? Hello!" Pinkie asked once more, knocking on the door for at least the thousandth time. Ever since she had found out Berry was an alcoholic, she had sworn to help. And it was another thing to keep that big, mean, scary, ugly monster out of her head. It was cold outside, and she wanted in.
Cocking her head to the side she figured Berry was either passed out, or doing something. Or maybe Pinkie had made some progress, and Berry was out doing something sober. Pinkie liked the latter idea best. Sighing she decided heading back to Sugar Cube corner was the best option. Turning away she began to bounce back, humming a quiet toon. The snow on her hooves cool.
"Ouch!" Pinkie shouted immediately retracting one of her hooves from the snow. She had stepped on something, lifting her hoof up, it was a small shard of glass. Frowning Pinkie cringed as she removed it. It was only a small piece so it didn't hurt to much to remove. Looking at where she stepped on it, it was Berry's favorite glass.
"Did I make myself not clear lieutenant?" Asked Dr. Wilchynski sternly, his arms folded behind his back.
"It's not like we could just board the ship! Your a insane-" The lieutenant didn't get to finish as Dr. Wilchynski spun around, his face plastered with anger.
"I SAID DID I NOT MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?!" He roared looming over the lieutenant, hatred and malice in his eyes. The lieutenant gulped, knowing that the doctor was well respected and it wasn't wise to not listen,
"I want that specimen." He paused,
"And I want it NOW." Dr. Wilchynski finished turning away, his white lab coat blinding in the bright light.
The lieutenant grimaced, and almost spat in digsust, he was crazy! He was a typical only cares about work scientist. He was very lanky, with brown hair that lead to sideburns, which lead to a nice bushy beard that was nicely combed.
"I-I'll get my squad together as soon as possible, then we'll head ou-" The lieutenant was cut off once more,
"We're going today, Lieutenant. I know your name Jonas, and I could easily have you suspended. So it would be wise to not argue." Said Dr. Wilchynski calmly, looking out the elevator window. Jonas, the lieutenant, nodded hesitantly.
Once they reached the ground floor, Dr. Wilchynski walked right out and headed to his lab,
"Lights on." He said without looking at the switch once. With a slight flicker, the lights turned on. Walking over to a large computer. Tapping a few buttons, a small light flickered onto the screen. It began to pulse, then the whole screen flickered to life. It showed a model of a planet looking much like earth, but a little smaller.
Keeping his face emotionless, he tapped a few more buttons and the planet spun around to show the pulsating light once more,
"So one of my logs wasn't destroyed?" He asked himself aloud,
"Well that makes my job a little better, knowing I can at least collect something those colonial brutes haven't destroyed." Dr. Wilchynski said, allowing himself a slight grin.
Suddenly with a hiss, he heard his lab door open,
"Yes?" He asked, not facing the person who entered.
"My squad ready for deployment." Said lieutenant Jonas, not looking to happy about it. Dr. Wilchynski turned around and gave a warm smile,
"I'll be with you in a minute." He said, and with that, lieutenant Jonas left the room. Grabbing a leather bag that went over his left shoulder, Dr. Wilchynski opened a drawer to his right. Inside was a revolver, one he had saved for such a situation. Grabbing it, he tucked it into the bag.
Turning and walking out of the lab, he shut the door and pulled out his keycard locking it. The lights inside dimmed, and flickered out. Turning around once more, he began to head to the dropship where the lieutenant and his squadron resided. Not allowing himself to waste another second, he boarded without a word.
The ship started its engines with a rumble, roaring to life as the hanger door began to open up. Lifting off he ground, the dropship began to head out to space. Nothing was said as the craft traversed space, and within three hours the planet came into view. Dr. Wilchynski had no idea how much trouble it would give him.
Breaking the silence, one of the soldiers spoke up,
"So why the hell are we going there again?" He asked as he chewed his toothpick. The doctor was to answer,
"Something you tiny brain wouldn't be able to comprehend, it would be wise to hold your tongue." He spat angrily, pulling out a small modified device.
"Hey! I was just askin!" Shouted the solider angrily, getting upset with the doctors answer.
"Typical." Said Wilchynski not looking up from his tablet of sorts. The lieutenant looked at his brother in arms, his expression screaming,
'Do as he says.'
Hesitantly, the solider quieted down. Soon enough they were ready to enter the planets atmosphere, and they did just that.
