Part 2: Attraction

Bon Bon pulled out some chocolate cake from the oven, and layed them on the bench.

"That smells great, Bon Bon!" Lyra said, hugging her from behind. "You've outdone yourelf this time."

"No I haven't!" She laughed, and pushed Lyra off gently.

Lyra smiled, and pulled Bon bon to her with magic. She looked at her lustfully. "Well, maybe I could see if I could outdo last ni-"

A knock on the door interrupted her. "Maybe I should answer that..."

"Yes, do so." Bon Bon giggled.

Lyra made her way to the door, involving jumping over the bench and landing in front of it. She opened it by hand (holding a human-sized object for a while can get taxing after a while), and the six girls, and one draco, stood there. "Come on in!"

"Let me guess, honey; It's the girls?"

"Yep! Come on!"

She shifted the cake into the fridge to cool. "Ok!"

"So, where were we up to?"

"The part where you had just met for the first time in 18 years."

"Oh yes, well, let's see, where do I pick this up..."

The Celebrations had been completely ruined by the appearance of Nightmare Moon. A few days later, it had all calmed down, particularly with the return of the second Princess, but now it was just... too quiet.

Lyra sighed, lying on the couch. "Bored..."

"Why don't you spend some time with Bon Bon? You haven't seen each other all week." Eclipse said from the kitchen.

Lyra muttered something that sounded like agreeance. She lept off the couch and headed to the door.

"Be back by 6!" Eclipse yelled to Lyra, as she walked quickly out the door.

Carrot Top pulled her arm back, and threw the ball at a massive speed. Derpy bolted up to it, and catched it before Bon Bon could. Derpy threw it to Bon Bon, who failed catching it. Carrot Top chuckled.

"You're not that good at catching balls."

"I sucked at PE, remember?" Bon Bon tossed it up and caught it. "But, I'm not that bad."

"Prove it."

Bon Bon smiled slyly, and pulled her arm back. She launched the ball at high speed, nearly matching Carrot's. Carrot held her arm out to catch it, but watched as it completely deviated from her grasp, and into the hands of Lyra.

"Why did you do that?!" Carrot yelled at her.

"Because I can?" She threw the ball back at Carrot, who caught it with ease. "I don't exactly know, but it looked like fun."

Carrot merely glared at her.

"And I won't say you didn't catch it. Just that I caught it."

Carrot rolled her eyes, and walked off in a huff. Derpy stayed.

"Is she always this aggressive?"

"Kinda. But she has a good heart." Derpy stated. "Anyway, hi!"

"Hi." She turned to Bon Bon. "How's it going?"

"Could be better." Bon Bon sighed, and wiped her brow. "I need to relax and cool down. My place?"

Derpy and Lyra nodded in agreeance.

Bon Bon smiled, and turned to Carrot, who was walking away in the distance. "Hey, Carrot! Wanna join us?"

Carrot turned, distance obscuring her face. "Really?"

"Why not? You're our friend, right?"

Carrot made her way quickly to the group. "Of course. I thought you were mad at me for walking off."

"Why would we be?" Derpy replied, smiling with crossed eyes. "We thought you were mad at Lyra for interrupting us."

"I was, but then I realised it wasn't anything to rage about." She turned to Lyra. "Sorry for snapping at you."

"It's ok. Besides, I've only known you two for a week now. I can't get it all right."

"Seems legit." They stopped as they reached the door of Bon Bon's home. Bon Bon pulled a key out and opened it, a wave of cool air hitting them.

Derpy unfurled her wings to catch more cold air. "Ah, that's better..."

"I agree." They walked in, and took places around the room. They sat there for some time, soaking in the cool air, glad to be out of the hot sun.

"This may sound invasive," Derpy spoke first. "But, do any of you have a crush on anyone?"

"I hardly know anyone here, so not really." Lyra said in responce.

"Neither do I." Bon Bon added.

Carrot sighed. "Unlike you two, I actually do. And I'm not particularly eager to talk about it."

Derpy perked up. "What's he like?"

"She."

Derpy's wings slightly unfolded. "Really? You like a girl?"

"It's not illegal, just uncommon." She looked away from the avian. "Though this town is mostly female, so it's probably more common."

"You think I don't know that?" Derpy said in a flat tone.

"Whatever."

"What's she like?" Lyra tilted her head.

"She's... I don't know, cute or something. Particularly her eyes..."

"I see."

"She's an avian, which makes things interesting."

"You have a thing for winged girls?" Bon Bon chuckled.

"OF COURSE NOT!" Carrot sat up in a flurry. "She just happens to be an avian."

"Okay then."

"Ok, maybe something easier to answer;" Derpy jutted in. "What sort of person would you probably have a crush on?"

"Let's see..." Bon Bon thought for a second. "He or she has to be honest, smart, funny, outgoing, all that stuff. Anything else is a matter of fate."

"Me, I don't know. There has to be something about them, something special, something... I dunno." Lyra sighed. "Unfortunately, I couldn't get a boyfriend at Canterlot. They were either to snobbish or were missing some feeling I needed."

"I agree." Derpy replied. "I have a crush on someone too, but I don't really want to talk about it..."

"You made me talk about it." Carrot Top said. "Why can't you?"

"Personal reasons."

"Whatever..."

The group fell into silence for a while, awkward at first, but then it grew comfortable.

"So, that's when you realised that you were in love with each other?" Twilight inquired.

"No, that comes later." Lyra cricked her neck. "Honey, can you get the cake out now?"

"I guess it's cool enough now. Give me a moment. Do continue."

"Fine... anyway, a few weeks later, something very, very tragic happened..."

Lyra sighed for the upteenth time that hour. "Isn't there anything we can do?"

"No, the town is still being repaired." Bon Bon replied. "Ursas can bring a whole town out of action."

"It still annoys me that we can't go outside. We need some sort of entertainment."

"I couldn't agree with you mo-" A slam against the door stopped her. She bolted out of her seat and flung the door open.

"I'm home..." A weak voice came from the armoured figure lying on the ground, armour stained with blood.

"Dad?!" Bon Bon cried out, and dropped to her knees. She wrapped her arms around him. "Are you ok?!"

"Just get me inside, we'll talk later."

Redheart took the stethascope off Sharpedge's chest. "He's stable, but he needs to rest for a week."

"Thanks nurse," Sharpedge replied. "But I can't stay here for a whole week."

"If you move too much, you could reopen your wounds, or worse."

"I see." He turned to Bon Bon, who was sitting next to his bed. "You've grown well."

"Thanks, dad." She responded, saddened. "So, what happened?"

"My patrol got flanked by a manticore. It came out of nowhere. It hit me first, but the others got away fine." He coughed. "Of course, they saved me, but could only carry me so far. Redsun couldn't concentrate. I knew we should've had a medic."

"You're going to be fine, dad, I promise."

"Hey, Lyra?" He said weakly. "Is that you?"

"Yes, it is."

"How'd the school go?"

"I passed, fortunately. And I found that I was good with music-related things." She smiled, though still unsettled by the whole event.

"Excellent." He coughed again, more violently. "Ow. Any preference in instrument?"

"Lyre."

"That makes sense. Your name is Lyra, after all. I was called Sharpedge long before I knew I was good in combat skills. Skills rarely needed these days." He coughed harder than before.

"Dad, are you ok?"

"Where are the caster nurses when you need them?" He muttered, then noticed blood on his hands. "I think I'll live. But, if I don't-"

"You'll be fine, dad!" Bon Bon flew into a panic. "Don't say that!"

Redheart cast a medical detection spell from a scroll. A simple one that didn't destroy the paper it was on, so it could be used again. "I'm sorry, but his coughing is opening his wounds." She lowered her head, then looked up. "Soulbeat!" She yelled to a nearby nurse, tending to a more stable patient. "We need magic assistance!"

"On my way!" He leapt across the room, and pulled a scroll from his coat. "Level 10?"

Redheart nodded. "Make it quick! We're not losing him!"

"Aye!" He unfurled the scroll, and muttering Draconic words that eventually rose into a shout, energy leapt from the scroll and into Sharpedge. The energy faded off after a while, and he looked to Redheart.

Redheart used the detection scroll again. "He's stable, but not for long."

Soulbeat kicked a useless thing in frustration. "Where's our Level 20 pluses when we need them."

Bon Bon looked at Sharpedge, a maddened sadness on her face. "Dad, you'll be fine!"

"Listen, you two." He said weakly. "Look after each other, whatever it takes."

"Don't say stuff like that! You'll live!"

"I'm sorry, I wish I could have been there more for you. But you have Lyra, and she'd do a better job."

Bon Bon fell into the sheets, crying loudly. Sharpedge placed his hand on her head gently, then looked to Redheart.

"How are your wounds getting worse?!" She yelled at the scroll, but really to herself.

"It's the poison."

"Manticore poison?"

"Aye. How long now?"

"You want to know WHAT?!"

"Tell me, so I can face my death like a man."

Redheart looked at the scroll once again. "Ten seconds, minimum."

"Damn." He lifted Bon Bon's head from the sheets. "As I said, look after each other. You two are perfect for each other."

Redheart yelled at Soulbeat again, about another scroll, but he was out of them.

"Lyra, keep on playing. Honey, do your best job at everything."

"Five seconds."

"You know, when you were five, I honestly thought the two of you would become more than just friends."

"Two."

"Whatever happens, believe in yourself and each other."

"Zero."

"See ya girls." He slowly fell limp, looking completely calm as his lifeforce drained from him.

Bon Bon stared at his peaceful-yet-lifeless body for a few moments, before screaming in sorrow and burrying her head in the sheets.

Bon Bon sniffed, and covered her eyes up. Lyra drew her closer to herself, and wrapped her arms around her.

"Sorry, girls, this bit get's a bit... emotional."

"We understand." Twilight spoke up.

"I kinda don't-" Dash added, and in responce Applejack kicked her across the room and into the wall.

"Sorry about that." She apologised.

"It's fine, don't worry." Bon Bon said through the block in her mouth. "You don't have to."

"So, what happens next?" Rarity asked.

"Skipping the whole time of absolute sadness, about a month after that, it was Winter Wrap Up..."

Carrot dragged the cart along the snow-covered ground, cursing under her breath. "Why in Equestria do I have to carry this?"

Bon Bon looked up from checking the seed stocks. "Because you're qiute strong. Stronger than me, at least."

"Whatever." She stopped for a break. "How's the missus?"

"What?"

"Lyra. I wasn't being serious. You two do seem very close, though."

"We were best friends before she went to Canterlot. We've still got that connection."

"Be that as it may, Lyra seems to be getting very attached to you."

"I don't think-"

"I mean, it could just be friendship, but she seems a whole lot more active when you're around, but kinda... hollow when you're not. Like she's missing something in her psyche, something that only appears when you're there."

"How did you figure that out?"

"Oh, I didn't. Well, not most of it. Derpy said something about it, and then I started noticing."

"Are you saying she's in love with me or something?"

"No, we're not. Even if we absolutely knew she was, which we don't, we wouldn't break her trust either way."

"You know I'm not going to forget this."

"Whatever. Can you help me with th-"

"Hey girls!" Applejack yelled out. "Git back ta work! Winter ain't gonna wrap itself up, ya know!"

"Sorry boss!" Bon Bon called out, and continued working. Carrot groaned, and continued pulling the cart.

"Make sure the animals are woken up gently." Sparkler ordered, directing a small group.

Lyra walked up to Sparkler. "You're the captian of the Animal team?"

"Yep." She sighed. "Don't you have things to do?"

"Rarity's stuck on this one nest, and has only completed one. I don't have much to do."

"Darn." Sparkler looked to Ponyville. "I hope we're not going to be late."

"Hang on," Lyra pointed to a commotion in the town square, visible from the hill they were on. "We should probably go and find out what's up."

"Sure. Race you!" Sparkler kicked off, startling Lyra.

"Oh, you're on!" Lyra started running as well, closely matching her school friend's speed. They reached the town in record time, only to see a mass confusion.

"What the heck's up?" Sparkler yelled over the crowd.

"The Animal team still needs to wake up the animals, but the Plant team needs the snow cleared!" Bon Bon, who happened to be next to them, replied. "The Weather team is kinda stuck between them!"

"There's gotta be some way of fixing this mess!" Lyra shouted.

A whistling bird halted all conversations and arguments. Twilight stood near the bird, and apologised.

"I all know you want to complete your jobs on time, but arguing is no way to go about it."

Lyra glanced at Bon Bon.

"What you need is... Organisation! And I'm just the girl for the job!"

"Shortly after Twilight-" Lyra pointed at the caster of the same name. "-was given the title of All-Team Leader, we went to my place for rest." Lyra said. "Well, just me and Bon Bon. Derpy and Carrot were busy doing something else."

"Thanks for having me over, Lyra."

"Eh, no problem." Lyra waved it off. "Besides, we've been to your house more than mine anyway."

"True, that." Bon Bon sighed. "Hey, Lyra?"

"Yes?"

Bon Bon thought about telling her about what Carrot had said to her. But she decided it wasn't the best thing to do.

"Nevermind."

"Oh come on!" She yelled in frustration. "Can't you tell me?"

She raced through her head to try and think of something, but nothing appeared. "Well, I kinda forgot..."

"I don't believe you." Lyra leaned closer, glaring at her. "You couldn't have forgotten that quickly."

"Lyra, what are-"

Lyra leaned closer, almost unbalancing Bon Bon and herself. "Tell me what you were thinking!"

Bon Bon panicked. "Lyra, watch out-"

Icegale walked in, and chose to ignore the position the two girls were in. He tapped Lyra on the shoulder, which shattered her balance. Lyra's lips fell onto Bon Bon's by complete accident, shortly before they fell off the couch in a tangle of legs and arms. Icegale, not having seen the contact, helped the two of them up.

"Sorry about upseting your balance. Anyway, Eclipse wants to see you, Lyra."

Lyra merely nodded, then dashed off without looking at Bon Bon.

"Pardon me for intruding, but what were you two arguing about?"

"I had a thought that Lyra really wanted to know, but I couldn't tell her."

"I won't ask for details. It's your secret."

"I think," Bon Bon looked at the door. "I should get going."

"Should I get Lyra to say-"

"I'm fine." Bon Bon said, as she left the room and then the house in general.

"You two kissed by complete accident?" Pinkie inquired, half-way devouring a slice of cake."

"Yes, we did." Bon Bon blushed. "It kinda caused a rift in our friendship. We barely spoke to each other between Winter Wrap Up and that competition between you," She pointed to Rainbow. "And you," She gestured to Rainbow Dash. "Even though we really wanted to inside, clear up the whole thing."

"Only after the competition did we come back together, but it was sort-of awkward. Then, on the day that there was a Sonic Rainboom-"

"Which I created." Dash said proudly.

"Bon Bon decided to confront me about it."

"Lyra, can we talk?"

"Sure."

"Look, about the whole thing a few weeks ago..."

"What thing?" Lyra asked, honestly not remembering the event.

"Where I had a thought, and you wanted to know it, but we kinda..."

"Oh yeah, that." Lyra replied, slightly embarrased. "Sorry about it."

"No, it's ok. Look, let's go get something to eat. Together."

"I'll buy." Lyra said. "After all, it is the best I can do."

"Are you sure?"

"Positive."

At the cafe

"This place knows how to make good sandwiches." Lyra said, happily chewing into her food.

"Mm." Bon Bon agreed, mouth full of her own. "We should try the apple pie. They're made by Sweet Apple Acres, and you know how good their apples are!" She added, after swallowing.

"I second that."

Silence fell between them. "So..."

"Huh?"

"Got any tales from your life at school?"

"You've heard them all already."

"Come on, you've gotta have a few more!"

"Hang on, let me think..." Lyra sat in contemplation for what felt like a few minutes, but eventually shrugged. "That's it."

"Blast. I was hoping for something to talk about."

"Do you have any other stories?"

"Not really." Bon Bon sighed. "Well, I do, but I promised Derpy I wouldn't tell anyone else."

Lyra perked up. "Oooh, an illicit secret..."

"You missed the bit where I can't tell anyone about it."

"Damn."

Bon Bon thought. "Unless you promise to tell ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, I guess you can hear it."

"WAIT!" An avian crashed into the ground next to them. She popped her head up, googly-eyed. "Maybe I should tell her instead of you."

"Uh... sure."

Derpy took a seat, and dusted herself off. "Don't tell anyone, and I mean ANYONE. Especially Carrot."

"Alright, shoot."

"I kinda... Have a crush on... Carrot."

"Wow, really?"

"Yes." She grabbed the caster by the collar. "DON'T TELL HER!"

"I promise. Though, to be honest, Ca-" She was stopped by Bon Bon.

"Don't break her trust too." Bon Bon said quietly. "Let them find out on their own."

"Alright." Lyra muttered, pulling Bon Bon's hand from her mouth.

"What're you talking about?" Derpy inquired.

"Nothing important, really."

"I'm going to pretend that's true."

"You should. We'd just ruin everything for you if we did tell you."

"Well, in that case-" She stood up. "-I've got mail to deliver!" She crouched for take off. "Skies be clear for you!" She launched off with a gust of air.

"What's that mean?" Lyra inquired.

"It's an avian saying. It means good luck, which for most avians is a clear path through the skies."

"Makes sense. Having grown up in Canterlot, I didn't really get that."

"What's the caster one?"

"There're a few, most have to do with stars. I can't exactly recall any at the moment."

"Fair enough."

Silence fell again, a companionable silence, as the two of them continued eating their food. Bon Bon, after finishing, had a brainwave.

"Hey, I just realised I haven't heard you play your lyre before."

"Whfft?!" Lyra said through her bite. She cleared her mouth of food. "You haven't?"

"No, I haven't."

"Well, then, should I set a private show for you?"

"I'd love that. Your place?"

"My lyre's there, so yeah. Besides, my bed's larger-"

"Wha-"

"It means we can both sit on it without fuss."

"Oh." Bon Bon blushed slightly.

"Well, shall we?"

"Yep."

* * * *

Lyra pulled her lyre towards her as they entered the room. It was a heavy, gold-looking metal, about the size of a man's head. It had a name etched onto it.

"What's that say?"

"What, this?" She looked at the etching. "Julia."

"Who's Julia?"

"The lyre."

"You named your lyre?"

"Hey, it's not uncommon for musicians to name their instruments. For example, Octavia the famous cellist named her cello Sirena."

"A valid argument. Now, let's hear you play."

Lyra shut the door and set up on the bed. "What sort of thing do you wanna hear?"

"Something..." She thought. "Sweet."

"One sweet song coming up!"

Lyra checked Julia's strings as Bon Bon took position on the bed. She strummed them all just to make sure, then started playing. The song started slowly, but went to a comfortable pace as it went on. What surprised Bon Bon is the fact that Lyra wasn't playing with any magical assistance, save from the innate magic that came from her talent, which made her able to play as well as a professional could. She was swept into the whole mood of the song, and found herself resting her head on Lyra's shoulder near the end. Lyra finished the song off slowly, then noted Bon Bon on her shoulder.

"You alright?"

"That was... wonderful. May I request another song?"

"Sure. What do you want?"

"Maybe something, I dunno why, a bit romantic."

Lyra pulled her shirt collar. "Why?"

"I just wanna see if you can play something like that."

"Ok, but you're doing something for us later. Like making cookies."

"I'll think about what to make as you play."

Lyra sighed, and played another extraordinary piece. As the song drew to a finish, she looked at Bon Bon slowly.

"How was that?"

"It was... great." Bon Bon and Lyra's heads grew closer.

Lyra smiled, and moved her instrument elsewhere. "I'm glad."

Their lips pressed against each other for a moment, then they parted.

"I think I love you, Bon." Lyra said, looking into Bon Bon's eyes directly.

Bon Bon responded by a more focused kiss, then pulling Lyra on top of her. "Me too."

Lyra pressed her body against Bon Bon's, lips and all. The two of them fell into an embrace of absolute passion, which lasted the whole night.

Lyra and Bon Bon were equally blushing. The audience were just captivated.

"Wow..." Fluttershy, unusually, spoke first.

Rarity wiped a tear from her eye. "You two certainly know how to tell a story of love."

"So, is that all there is?" Dash inquired

"Of course not!" Lyra yelled in a proud voice. "We've still got the aftermath to go."

"Well, can we hear it?" Spike asked.

"Nah, we've got stuff to do, and I'm sure you do too. Don't worry, we'll say more soon."

"How about tomorrow?"

"We'll be busy all week. So, Friday week?"

"Alrighty then." Applejack replied, and stood up. "Thanks fer the cake, girls."

"My pleasure."

The group left, leaving the two alone again. Lyra grabbed Bon Bon's head and drew their lips together.

"So, shall we?"

Bon Bon chuckled. "I'd love that."
