Outside was not the familiar inky nightscape I was accustomed to, but an ever-changing field of glistening stars.
They danced and twinkled, shining light upon empty worlds unimaginable distances away.
Seems their display was wasted on dead eyes tonight.
"That is not a mindset one such as yourself should hold."
I leapt into the air, startled at the revelation that I wasn't alone. I searched the room for the speaker, but was only greeted by a soft chuckle.
"You were a difficult case. I have conversed with thousands of your kind with little difficulty, but you consistently proved to be, ah, a challenge."
Thousands of my...was the lady space voice a dyslexia counselor?
"Maybe it was not the state of mind, but the quality preventing my access...."
I get the feeling that I should feel a little insulted by that remark...Wait, prevent access to what?
"Your dreams. We are currently communicating through one of your dreams. Though this is not the first night I have attempted communication, it is, thus far, the most successful."
Communicating...th-
"Through dreams, yes. You see, I am a Princess of Equestria, the Lunar diarch and Ruler of the Night. In accordance with this responsibility, I am the guardian of dreams."
Diarch? The hell's an Equestria?
"That is unimportant; it is clear that you have questions. You are troubled by past events, and are attempting to convince yourself that you are okay with them. I am here to tell you, as with the many others I have encountered, that you are not alone, and everything is going to be fine."
Kinda ominous. What's your game, space lady? What the hell is going on?
"We do not have much time, as you will awaken soon. All I that I ask of you is you seek out other survivors. It is not healthy for your kind to live life alone...and, Elliott?"
