“Hell yea gentlemen, add that one to the books” I said folding my armored legs onto the coffee table in front of me as I spoke to the titan and warlock sitting just opposite from where I sat within the transport ship.
“Yea chop that one up to the traveler…” the deep grumbling voice of the Exo titan known as Ragnar-002 who took a swig of his mixed adult beverage of an alcohol concoction and engine oil. Downing it as some of the liquid missed his mouth and rolled down his steel colored metal jaw line then slamming the now empty mug down next to his dormant airplane style helmet as it sat upon the wooden table causing a loud *thud* to echo in the almost empty cargo bay.
“Yo, what the hell man? You’re an Exo, how the hell you able to digest that man?” A new voice, coming from a nameless Warlock who was sitting to my right with his helmet off and placed in one hand while he held his drink in the other.
“Don’t know, I just can man. I find it quite strange that no matter what I consume I don’t have to relieve myself like you blood bags do” Ragnar responded back to the Warlock as he leaned back in the chair he sat.
“Well whatever it is, it’s sure is strange”
“Like that tattoo on yo…”
Ragnar’s sentence was cut short when a navy blue robotic frame walked up the ramp of the ship and approached the lot of us. “Guardians. I hope I wasn’t interrupting anything?”
“It’s ok please continue” I said motioning him with my right hand.
“Thank you. Guardian” The frame spoke again as it folded its arms across its stomach region as the sensor on its head lit up as it pronounced the words. “Commander Zavala wishes to speak with you in the Hall of Guardians at once.”
“Uh-Oh! Some ones in trouble” Ragnar chuckled under his breath as the beverage he drank started to take effect.
“Can it Robocop” I said comically as I set my drink onto the table next to my helmet that was modeled heavily after recent combat Exo-frames “I best not keep the blue giant waiting then” I then moved my out stretched hand over my helmet, grabbing hold of it and placing the helm onto my head as the air tight seals and HUD activated.
With my Helmet fully secured on top of my head, I lifted myself out of the chair of which I sat and went on my way to meet with Zavala.
I walked down the ramp of the ship and up two flights of stairs while passing a technician who had her hands full with some frames who need maintenance. I soon found myself within the main hanger which was in its usual state of busyness do to the fact that it’s the only space port within the tower and it houses two of the main factions; Dead orbit and The Future War cult. I continued forward as I tried to quietly pass a small group of civilians who were having a tour of the tower by the looks of the frame that was leading the group in my direction and succeeded in doing so but failed when dead orbits cult representative Arach Jalaal noticed me sneaking by.
“Ah Guardian. How was the mission today?” the Awoken shouted from where it stood which caused me to freeze like a thief caught in the act; as he continued to stare down at his tablet with his long jet black hair covering his face.
“Yea, yea, yea. How you doin their Jalaal?” I sighed in defeat as I turned my frozen body to face the awoken recruiter of dead orbit. “Did you get those ship part you asked for?” I asked, leaning on a side rail that was placed coincidently nearby.
“Yes I did but that was not what I wanted to talk to you about guardian. I want to know when you will be joining our ranks since you are not a part of the cult or those fools of the monarchy.” He moved his gaze from the glowing screen which only made his skin a bit brighter; to where I stood with both hands on the rail bar. “Hasn’t Zavala given you our recruitment papers?”
“To tell you the truth I haven’t received any recruitment papers from dead orbit” I lied innocently as I let go of the guard rail and continued on my task. “An besides you know that I’m an Iron lord now right?” In truth; whenever I received the papers from any faction that wanted me I would simply just stuff them down a nearby trash can because I didn’t believe nether faction had the man power or resources to protect the city except for the vanguard and the consensus.
“Well please hurry and fill it out. We need guardians like yourself in our ranks so we can defeat all our opponents.” He shot back, completely ignoring the part I said about the Iron Banner.
“Yea well make sure you deliver the glimmer to us before the days end” I mumbled under my breath with some anger as I took a sharp right and up a large flight of stairs.
I always disliked all four of the factions here at the tower. It’s not just the cowards here at ‘Dead Orbit’ it’s also the complaining rebels over at the NM who are also causing trouble and then theirs those closed lip spooks over that the FWC who claim they have a weapon to fight the darkness but won’t even speak of it when asked about. Personally I think we need to do away with these parasites that are bleeding our people of their resources and time because they keep recruiting these fresh recruits with promises of glory and fame if they just sign the dotted line and swore allegiance to their suicidal cause. I don’t understand why we can’t just put our faith in the vanguard; I don’t think I ever will but enough of me getting flustered.
Within less than a minute I found myself staring up at the giant glimmering moon like sphere that hovered high into a beautiful blue colored sky while over the last city on earth.
“When are you going to wake up you big bastard? The city needs you” I thought to myself looking up at the cracked white shell of the dormant god known as the traveler while I stood near the edges of the main courtyard of the tower. The plaza itself was bustling with guardian traffic which was mainly focused around the three large pillars that were just off to my right that held the countless vaults of guardians “precious” loot including my own; and around the main postal service building that sat near the center of the plaza.
Knowing that I had time to kill, I casually continued forward. Walking down yet another flight of stairs, cutting through the vault pillars and soon I found myself in the crucible section of the hall that was decorated with the cloth banners of the crucible which pretty much was two swords crossed within a white diamond along with the skulls, bodies, and armaments of defeated enemies slain by the leader of the crucible. This section of the hall was ran by the infamous lord Shaxx who made sure that any guardian who approached him about such activity would make sure they are full prepared for the tedious activity.
“Howdy Shaxx” I greeted him as I began to pass the desk he stood behind with both his arms folded behind his back.
“Greetings Ronan, slayer of Oryx” he greeted in his deep English brewed voice “So how is old salad doin’ these days and aren’t you supposed to be on a mission?” The half horned bastard sounded intimidating as he brought his arms around and folded his two fur covered appendages across his chest as he looked up at me.
That is one of the only cons about being a titan and having the shear height I have as a guardian. I get mistaken for Shaxx when I ever take a walk throughout the city, that and catching the gazes of every single woman in the city which I’m not saying is a bad thing but when all you want to do is relax and enjoy a little down time but all around is single women giving you every single wolf-whistle there is in the book or tries to “get at you” then it gets old especially when I have to ask Ragnar for his cloak before I go out. We all know how hunters get when it comes to their cloaks.
“Yea old man Saladin is doing ok for his age especially . Needed me for something. ‘Have any idea what it is?
“Don’t know, the vanguard never keeps the crucible in the loop these days” he replied shaking his head “but enough chit – chat; now get goin guardian!” I did exactly so.
Before me stood two of the guardian mentors Cayde-6 and Ikora. The two were hunched over a large rectangular on different sides table looking over some charts and books on said table that sat in the middle of a small valley in the large room that was surrounded on its longer sides by book shelves and multiple banners that shown the three guardian class’s emblem; Warlock, Hunter, and Titan. Near the end of the room were a large window was placed before the two rather large artillery cannons aimed out into the wilderness and manned but two frame sentry’s but before the glass screen was a large monument that had four angled pillars that surrounded a large metal globe that represented earth and her colonies along with a smaller globe that was just below it was the traveler and its light. I stood there in silence for a bit while I looked for my classes mentor but my presence did not go unnoticed as the mentor of the warlocks turned her shaven head in my direction.
“Why hello Dante” Ikora cooed in a seductive manner
“How’s it going Ms. Ikora? You two know were Commander Zavala is?” I asked but before any of them could answer; an authoritative toned voice sounded from where the monument was.
“Over here Titan.”
“Never mind” I said cheerfully as I did as I was told as I passed Cayde-6 who just raised up his right hand in a positive gesture and as I walked by I returned it by slapping the hand with my own. I soon walked out of the small indoor valley and found the owner of the voice that had called me over.
Before me stood a hairless and stony face awoken titan who was adorned in silver and red colored armor who was standing at attention and starring out into a lush green valley that was surrounded on both sides by two snow covered mountains that stretched high into the sky above the city. He dawned the emblem of a white double headed eagle that had its wings outstretched on both his large maroon shoulder plate on his right shoulder along with a smaller image of it on the polished silver chest plate.
“You needed to see me sir?” I asked as I to stand at attention because the being in front of me was no regular titan; this was the mentor of all the Titans. Zavala.
“Indeed guardian, I hope your latest mission went smoothly?” the baby blue skinned titan asked me as he continued to stare out into the wilderness with his bright blue eyes.
“It went rather well sir. We experienced very little resistance and completed the objective on time sir” I answered as I too placed both my hands behind my back and stood at attention. That was when I noticed he held two data scrolls within his left hand.
“That’s damn good to hear guardian, that’s damn good.” He repeated as he brought his hands around to his front. “These are for you” He handed me the two grey data scrolls. One that was embroiled with the vanguard ‘V’ emblem and the other with a white skull that was circled in a dark blue circle.
I took one that held the vanguard crest on the shell and opened it to reveal a blue hologram screen which held a detailed explanation of what Zavala needed to see me for.
“So you need Fire team Orion to go to the Mare Cognitum region on the moon?” I asked moving my gaze from the page and being met with the neon gaze of Zavala.
“That is correctt”
What is there that is of importance that the vanguard is sending just two guardians?’ I asked again as I read more of the information on the screen which wasn’t much.
“There is an old research station there that we have recently lost contact with so as precautionary step we decided to send a small six man response team to reestablish contact but at we lost contact wit1 o’clock this afternoon we have the response team”
“Walk with me” Zavala mumbled as he turned is whole body in my direction and started walking around the monument. “So I decided to send two of our best to see what the problem is”
I rolled the scroll back up before I did as he commanded and followed him over to the table in the middle of the room where he was already at his end of the furnishing pulling up something on the 3D holographic displayer on the table. Before I could even ask, an orange colored image of what appeared to be a twelve sided polyhedral appeared above the projector.
“This is what we want your fire team to try and retrieve” he pointed at the three dimensional image.
“What is it? A satellite” I asked; starring up at the image.
“We don’t know. That was what the research team was trying to find out before we lost contact with them. What we need the two of you to do is take an S-110 Vulcan (the ships you see bringing supplies to the tower. They look like the airship Osprey) that had been out fitted for space travel, head to the base, retrieve the device, along with you to give us an update on the research and the rescue team” he explained to me as he held up the other metallic scroll. “I can already tell you know who this is from”
“That one I’ll toss in the trash sir. I just spoke with him” I said as I gave back the vanguard scroll and went on my way.
“Well don’t bother but on the same matter; if you come across any survivors of the research team or the response team we sent in, then we want you to bring them in so they can be debriefed” Zavala ordered as he placed the vanguard scroll on the table and tossed the dead orbit scroll into a small trash can under his side of the table. “We will upload the details and any available data on the base to you ghost”
“Sir Yes, Sir” I flattened my right hand and brought it up to the edge of my forehead before I turned in a complete 180 degrees on my heels and walked out off.
“Ok Ragnar; we got ourselves a mission so meet me up by the shipwright” I whispered into my coms microphone as u passed Shaxx who was now occupied with his double horned personal combat frame; Arcite.
“Alright man, see you their” the other end came to life with Ragnar’s grumbly voice.
I then moved my hand away from my ear piece and out in front of me with the palm facing up. “Ghost, did you get those coordinates?”
A few inches above the palm of my hand appeared my ghost; a black orb that contained light with a central recital that acted as the bots eye. Surrounding the light carrying orb are eight jet black triangle styled pieces of armor casings that were adorned in armor brackets and would move side to side in sections in order to show the bots emotion. “Yep, just finished downloading the last of the details” the light within its eye lit up as the ghost spoke with enthusiasm “what do you think happened to the people we sent up?”
“I don’t know, but my guess is that it’s the fallen who is responsible for this”
“Why do you say that?” it tilted to show some emotion.
“Well the fallen have been active recently along with them raiding and looting more settlements across the moon while the Hive stay to their own area and only venture out when they are ordered to” I added as I tried connecting the dots. We soon found the both of us back at the plaza of the tower which had been cleared out recently to where there was almost no guardians in the area.
“Well whoever did it; well stop them like the ones before them” the ghost then vanished from above my hand but continued to speak in my earpiece. “We best get goin’ then”
“But one quick little stop first” I added as I headed over to the vault pillars.
Moments later. (Pronounce with a French accent)
“So what’s the plan their boss man?” Ragnar asked as I walked up the short stair way that led to a small open area within the hanger that was filled with many crates, red and yellow fuel canisters, along with a few tables that were placed in front of a high safety fence that ran along the whole balcony within the hanger. While to my front and right was nothing but a map of our solar system and a line of black tool cases.
"I’ll explain that to you… when we get on under way” I lifted a large and heavy grey duffle bag off my shoulder but still keeping it within my grasp before asking. “But first. Ms. Holiday?”
Over in the far left corner, a blond haired female adorned in an old grey sleeveless jumpsuit that exposed her large sleeve tattoo and multiple grease stains upon her arms was sitting atop of a large shipping crate with her right pants leg rolled up to show off the knee cap of her synthetic leg; looked up from the ground to where the two of us stood. “Yea Guardian?” she asked with a hint of a western drawl in her voice as she spoke.
“Well ma’am, Zavala gave the both of us here a mission and said that there was a ship here with our names one it; an S110 ‘Vulcan’ if I’m not mistaken”
“Awe yes, you boys lucky I got that flyin’ gas can done this mornin’. Took my whole team of technicians to get that thing space worthy” Holiday noted as she jumped off the crate, opening its large lid, and bending her small figure over to reach into the container which gave both Ragnar and myself a good look at her back side that her whole backside which her tight fitting jump suit didn’t do well to hide.
When she finally came back up from digging around in the container she held a tablet within her hands that looked a lot similar to the one that Jalaal held but smaller like a pre-golden age communicational device.
“Ah here we go” The mechanic exclaimed as she pressed her forefinger on the devices screen, causing the whole platform that we stood on the suddenly shake and jolt to life as it released some locking mechanism and began to slowly lower itself down to the flight deck level.
When the lift finally stopped both Ragnar and myself stepped off and was followed by Holiday who tapped the screen of the device again but to only cause the lift on that far end of the deck near the hanger exit to rise and reveal a large black and white double engine vehicle or otherwise known as the S110. When the lift finally became level with the rest of the flight deck it emitted a load clanking sound that just blended with the rest of the noise that was being produced but it was enough to that was being loaded with a few large crates through its back cargo ramp as we traveled across the flight deck. Though this model of airship is in some way an exact copy of its older sibling who is the work horse of the vanguard in supply and resources, it had to be renovated and outfitted with golden age space travel technology along with a larger cabin and stronger engines not to mention the three underbelly dorsal wings were removed as well.
“The damn pieces we had to fabricate by hand just do we could finish this bird…” Holiday added as she trailed by naming all the parts they made with their machine they used to make parts for aircraft they can’t find.
“You going to tell me the details of the mission or what?” Ragnar asked as he moved his gaze from the red scarfed blonde.
“Well I would but I figured that you were too busy looking at the ass of the shipwright to notice I was talking” I whispered as I looked around the hanger and noticed the two Paris-class interceptors that were stationed off on the far side of the hanger that were being operated on by two frames.
“There’s nothing wrong with looking, just as long as you don’t touch.” He placed one hand on the upper half of his chest plate while he shook his other in the air at me. “And besides I know how you and the queen looked at each other when you both first met.”
“I thought we both agreed to never speak of that again” I sighed as the three of us arrived at the docked ship.
“I didn’t agree to anything their buddy”
Ragnar is my good friend. Hell he was the one and only person that helped myself get settled into the life I have now with the order when I first came to the tower after being resurrected in the hills of a country once called Ireland. He even was there for me when I lost my own kin during the battle of twilight gap, to lend me a hand and get me back on my feet. My own ‘brother-in-arms’. This all wasn’t just one-sided though. Throughout our brotherly bond; when we dove feet first into the vault on the planet of Venus with 4 other guardians we defeated the vex time conflux god Atheon. Luckily no one was killed during the assault but no one left that fault the same. When it came to dealing with the Hive, when we descended into the depths of the Hell mouth fortress on the moon and entered into the nether to defeat the hive’s god: Crota, Son of Oryx; but in the end two guardians were lost to the darkness. One such guardian Ragnar held a relationship with her. A price that had to be paid for the completion of the mission. But when Oryx the taken king came to our system both Ragnar and myself were chosen by the vanguard to go deep into the king’s dreadnaught fortress and dethrone him. After fighting our way through hordes of Hive and ‘Taken’ along with a oversized Primus and Ogre who both were ‘Taken’. We both entered a gate that spawned both the ogre and cabal to do what we were sent there to do but before we dealt the final blow; the king somehow tainted the both of us with something just before he took his own self. Still to this day we yet haven’t figured out what he did to us nor do we plan on telling anyone unless it calls for it.
While I was in thought I had noticed the two frames that had entered the aircraft carrying numerous familiar looking crates had just exited and were standing to the side of the cargo ramp with Holiday herself who just continued to stare are the screen of her data pad. “… Along with a redesigned NLS drive, two new bowing jet propulsion systems, and the addition of space worthy armament …” she trailed off again.
“Uh Ms. Holiday?” I interrupted her naming of all the new parts she had to fabricate or had to order for the aircraft. “What’s in the crates that those two frames loaded into the ship?” I asked standing under the large ‘H’ style tail wing looking into the ships cabin.
“Oh those?” she said gesturing to the said crates while setting the device in her hands down onto a small workbench that was covered in tools and what looked like schematics of aircrafts. “We took the liberty of taking the supplies out of both of your ships and that included everything but you see those two grey colored boxes?”
We both nodded our heads in response and glanced over at the crates.
“Those are your jump ships ...”
I don't know about Ragnar but when Holiday that five worded sentence; I just stared at her in confusion, thinking and hoping that she really didn't dismantle both Ragnar's 'Boat' and my tribal marked blockade runner.
"... An' no we didn't turn your ships into scrap"
"T-Then ... How?" Ragnar stuttered out as he slouched his shoulders.
"We were able to digitalize them down to mothing but code along with a few other important materials for them and store it all into those two specially made crates that allow you or your ghost to access.
"Oh-Ok" both Ragnar and myself said simultaneously to the news of our ships not being dismantled. a guardian cant do much to protect the city nor the whole galaxy without their own personal jump ship.
"Yeah ok. Well if you little girls are done talking, I'd suggest ya'll get goin' now" Holiday suggested as she turned away from us in order to help a engineer who was standing patiently off to the side; behind her.
"alrighty Ragnar lets get this done man" I gestured to my partner as I stepped onto the aircrafts passenger compartment and picked a seat that wasn't blocked by cargo.
"Eeyup, gotta get back in time for my date"
"Really so I take it as your flyin' this time?" I asked secured the bags in my hands to the overhead of my seat before sitting down and secured my own self in.
"Ah fuck it. you just know how much I like flying" he added as he made his way past me and any crates along the way before he found the beak of the ship and locked in.
"So is she good looking?" I asked trying to continue our conversation before it went silent do to me sleeping.
"Uh-Huh. she's a model for SEXO weekly" he bolstered as the two twin engines roared to life and causing me to have to yell over them.
"WOW THATS IMPRESSIVE BUDDY. I HOPE IT GOES 'WELL' FOR YOU TONIGHT..." I reached into a secret compartment in my chest plate only to pulled out a pre-golden age device that is white in color and had a black screen with a small circular nob just bellow it. this small size devise was known as an 'MP3 player' that I found searching the walls of a place once known as Seattle, Washington in the north America's. To my surprise the small piece of plastic still worked and with a good charge from my ghost; I was able to play the tunes that were held within it. I quickly selected a tune I liked from the device and pressed play as the sound of an electric guitar began to play in the background. "... WELL WAKE ME WHEN YOU CRASH THIS TIN CAN, ALRIGHT"
"WILL-DO AND THANKS FOR THE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE THEIR ASS"
An with that; I lowered the lids to my eyes along with my head and fell into the void that was my dreams as the ship ascended out of the hanger.
'here we go'
