Driving Life with a Lead Foot
Chapter 7 - Memory Games
Previous ChapterNext ChapterYears passed in moments, and moments passed in years. Afterward, only vague remnants remain, but when one comes back, it's a stab to the gut.

"Skyline?"
He kept hearing that in his head, every once and awhile, and it was starting to annoy him.
Skyline sat in his garage, surrounded by blood in his closet. He, too, was covered in blood. The blood of innocent people.
And that's just the way he liked it.
Skyline's garage was starting to crumble what must have been years and years later. Skyline left his garage only to pick victims and hang out with his last friend, who now seems to refer to herself as Pinkamena.
Skyline's phone beeped. He wiped the blood off of the screen and looked at what caused the notification
It was a message from good ol' Pinkamena.
Pinkamena (cupCAKES@pony.com)
Pinkamena: hey you I pulled the next number. Wanna come and help?
Skyline wickedly smiled.
Skyline: wouldn't miss it.
Skyline got out of his closet and shut it tightly behind him. He rushed down the stairs and grabbed the keys for his 2000GTR. He hopped in, and gunned the engine.
***
Skyline and Pinkamena had finished preparing for the next number. Skyline asked which one it was this time.
"Bon Bon." Pinkie said with a smile, as if such events weren't even happening.
Skyline and Pinkamena walked closer to the victim as she began to arouse.
"Huh..? Who's there?"
Pinkamena stepped closer. "It's me, don't you remember?"
"Pinkie, what's going on? Help me out of these restraints!"
"I'm sorry, but I can't do that. You see, your number came up, and I don't make the rules."
Skyline remained in the shadows, smirking.
"What do you mean, my number?"
"Look, I don't make the rules. You have to understand."
Pinkie grabbed what looked like a circle of fabric, but don't be fooled. It wasn't fabric.
She showed it to Bon Bon. The "fabric" was a teal color with a golden lyre on it.
"You like it?" Asked Pinkamena, obviously having a bit of fun.
"Y..... You........ Is that.....L-Lyra?"
"Yeah. She was a bit loud though. We had to deal with her voice before we started. How ironic..."
Bon Bon seemed to have put two and two together. "You!? You killed Lyra?"
"Yep! Her number came up too, you see."
"NO, I DON'T SEE! Y-YOU MONSTER!"
"Well, it was fun, but we have to get moving. We have other matters to get to."
Pinkamena turned on the lights. Around the room were entrails used for decoration, as she would say. There were intestines hung like streamers, and skulls scattered about. And that's only to name a few "decorations"
Bon Bon saw me and shot me a look of despair.
"Pinkamena here has a rule. We start with the cutie mark." Said Skyline.
"N-No! You can't!"
"Oh, but we must." Said Pinkamena.
Skyline pulled out his sharpest throwing knifes and took aim. He then threw one at Bon Bon's hand, pinning it to the upright table she was pinned to, and she proceeded to scream.
"Sky, you know I get first dibs!!" Pinkamena whined playfully.
"My bad." Skyline grabbed a cutting knife, then gave it to Pinkamena. "Here ya go."
Pinkamena smiled evilly, and grabbed the knife. She yanked the clothes off of Bon Bon and she began her work.
***
Pinkamena and Skyline were finishing with Bon Bon when Pinkamena spoke up.
"Oh, I'm behind a number. I have her locked in the other room. Let's go check on her."
"Lead the way." Skyline said, smiling with his blood stained face.
The two walked across the room and approached a metal door. Pinkamena opened it, and inside was a single figure, out cold. But when she turned on the light, Skyline's heart stopped.
Fluttershy.
Skyline felt his head clear, a funny feeling he hasn't had since.......
Suddenly, Skyline felt something. Fear. At that moment, Skyline felt his mentality returning to its previous state. He..... He could never kill Fluttershy. Who would do that?
The disease was seeming to retaliate. "Death is Magic! KILL. THEM. ALL."
Skyline fell to his knees, grabbing his head. "This..... This is wrong....."
Out of nowhere, Pinkamena disappeared, and he was in a completely white room, but there seemed to be no walls. Just empty nothingness. His bloodstained body looked completely out of place here.
"Skyline?" It was that voice again.
He turned quickly, and froze.
The four princesses were standing side by side, staring at him.
"Skyline?" Twilight said.
"I-I killed you! You're all dead! I-I didn't mean to, I was possessed, and...... I don't know what's going on."
"Skyline," they all said in unison. "You are not what you think you are."
"A-Am I dead?"
"Your time here is up, but you are not done."
Suddenly, Skyline's vision flickered, and the four princesses turned into bloody mutilated figures. Skyline stumbled back.
"This... This can't be real!"
"The mind perceives what's real as what it wants to be real."
Soon, many figures spawned. Both the living and dead versions of the princesses stood before him.
Skyline clutched his head again. The two mentalities were fighting, trying to kill one one another.
The many figures now held rifles, and readied to aim. He now heard many voices in his head, saying the names he's used.
"The Rookie..."
"Ryan Cooper...."
"The Armored Reaper..."
"The Guardian Angel..."
"Silvia..."
The princesses, dead and alive, raised their rifles and fired, one by one, at his chest. As soon as they were out of ammo, Skyline was left standing there, coughing blood. He fell to his knees as the princesses chanted his names. As he started black out, to die, The living Twilight walked up to him.
"Skyline?" She said.
Then Skyline fell through oblivion.
***
Skyline launched up in a bed, screaming. Applejack and Rarity were there, and Skyline seem to scare the life out of them.
Skyline got out of the bed, and punched the wall. After going straight through the drywall, he pulled out his fist.
The pain. It's real.
Skyline ran to Applejack, whose heart may have stopped. "WHERE. ARE. THE. PRINCESSES?"
Applejack swallowed. "T-They're in the main hall... A-Are you-"
Before Applejack could finish her sentence, Skyline had already left the room, running.
Skyline ran through the halls. He realized he was in Canterlot, and he woke up in the same room where he had seen them die. By his hand.
He soon reached the main hall and kicked the door open. There, at the thrones, were the princesses, and they stared wide-eyed at him.
Skyline ran to them, and hugged them all. "Y-you're alive! It wasn't real..."
Celestial spoke up. "You have been asleep for three months. Has something happened?"
Skyline froze. He put his head in his hands. "Three months...?"
He took a seat on the floor. "I was in... Like, a dream of some sort.... But it felt real.... And I killed you. All of you...."
Twilight stepped toward him. "Skyline, what happened?"
"I-I can't remember... It... It hurts...."
Luna stood up. "We can ask him at a later time. Right now, he needs to recover."
Skyline looked up. "What did I miss? Tell me."
Cadance shifted in her seat. "We found that you planted a tracking device, and that device gave us floor plans of Chrysalis's base. After we got all the Intel we needed, we moved in. Your squad mates lead the assault. In the end, we won. We found Chrysalis with a bullet wound in her chest. When we examined the bullet, we found out it was yours. And she isn't dead. She's in our secure detention area in the basement.
"Afterburner healed well, and is as good as new. She's been worried sick. And, Skyline, there's something you need to see. Or rather, someone.
***
They were walking down a hallway, with Skyline in tow. After going down an elevator, they turned a corner and they came to a door. Twilight entered first. Inside, there was one-way glass and another door to what looks like living quarters rather than an interrogation room. Twilight knocked, then entered. She started talking to whoever must be in there.
"Judgement day. Our friend woke up and he's pissed. You're gonna tell him what you know, and I wouldn't cross him if I were you."
Skyline entered the viewing room. Before Skyline stepped into the captive's room, Twilight handed him his Silver Magnum. As Skyline held it, the Insanity flashed in his vision, only for a split second, but enough to make Skyline stumble backwards.
"You alright?" Twilight asked.
"I'm gonna need a therapist..." Said Skyline as he entered the room.
He turned, and he saw her.
Her skin was a pale pink color, and she had aqua hair. She was unmistakably an alicorn, and she wore jean shorts with a flower print tank top.
Skyline took a seat in the chair across from her at a table. He placed the gun in the middle of the table, the grip facing her.
"You don't know me. You're about to." Skyline said in a casual tone, while staring into her eyes. "Tell me about yourself."
"I-I.... I'm Morning Dew..."
"Why are you stuttering?"
"Y-you aren't exactly an everyday person. You're a mercenary, a killer. Probably have a vast knowledge of such field too."
"And how exactly do you assume this?"
"I can read you. You've had a recent traumatic experience as well."
Skyline flinched, and then steadied himself. He spawned his horn, and faced her in alicorn form. "I'm more than a killer. I'm an asset. I'm a weapon." He moved closer. "And I've fucked up a LOT of guys."
Morning Dew nodded.
"Now, please enlighten me as to why I'm here. You must be important."
She paused for a second, and then took a deep breath. "When your team hit the base the second time, they found me. Chrysalis had captured me."
"So you're a POW. A prisoner of war. You'd be released. There must be something else."
She looked at him. "I overheard them talking. I know all of her plans. She..... She's not the only one. Sombra, he was working with her. He has manifested into a human form. They..... They are working to bring back Nightmare Moon, and from there, they plan to rule Equestria. And they were close. Until you came along."
Skyline buried his face in his hands. "I must have been horrible to puppies in a past life or something."
"Can you please tell them to release me now?"
Skyline looked up. "No. You're coming with me. We are going to plan the beginning of the end."
Skyline stood up. "Come with me. You can bunk at my house. You'll be safe. Nothing gets that close to me unless it wants to die."
Morning followed Skyline out, and Skyline asked where Chrysalis was being held. After telling him, he was stopped by Luna.
"You can't trust her." She said.
"I trust everyone. It's the devil inside them I don't trust."
He gave her one last look and then he headed torward Chrysalis's holding cell.
He went down many flights of stairs, and twenty security checkpoints, and then he finally reached the door.
"Wait here." He told Morning Dew.
Skyline scanned a keycard and the door was released. He stepped inside.
There, sitting in front of him, was a hauntingly familiar black figure staring at him.
"So, you've had a nice nap, I suppose?"
Skyline ran up to her and punched her across the face. "What the fuck did you do to me? Tell me!!"
Chrysalis chuckled, her nose broken and bleeding. "I gave you a glimpse."
"Don't be cryptic. You have no idea what it has done to me! I feel like I'm insane right now.... And it's your fault!"
"You will understand later...... But you know you can't kill me Skyline."
Skyline froze, then punched her again, and again. "Why do you have to ruin my life? I used to fight with you. I was blinded. Betrayed! Now you twist the knife, try to break me. WELL FUCK YOU TOO!"
He punched her again. He picked her up and threw her at the wall.
He turned and left the room. When he closed the door behind him, Morning looked at him with a baffled expression.
"You....?"
"If you value your life, you will never speak of this. AM. I. CRYSTAL. FUCKING. CLEAR?"
"Y-yes."
"Good. Come on."
***
Skyline was sitting in a blank office, and was lying on his back on a comfortable couch. Another man car in a chair next to him, and asked him questions.
"Can you tell me about your vision?"
"I'll be dead before I tell that story. Dammit, what am I doing here? I'm in fucking therapy. Chrysalis hit me in the one place that I couldn't armor. I-I can't keep doing this. I need to leave this life behind. I need to settle down, or something. Right?"
The therapist thought for a second. "It is already known that you can dimension travel, so think carefully about what you mean by that. You seem to be under a lot of stress. You need a break."
Skyline got ups suddenly. "Listen doc, before I leave for the day, I wanted to tell you that I'll be.... Out of town for awhile."
The therapist just sighed. "I hope you'll do the right thing."
Skyline didn't hear this, because he was already gone.
It was raining outside, and he ran to his car. It had been three weeks since he had woken up, and the visions were gone for the most part, but they haunted his dreams. He was thinking for a moment, and soon he floored the gas pedal. After a few turns, he stopped and got out and flew upward. He knocked on the door as he stood in the rain. After a few moments, Rainbow Dash opened the door.
"Skyline?" She said. "What brings you here."
"I thought like you were the right person to tell." Skyline said, soaked in rain. "Don't tell anyone else, but I'll be gone for awhile. I need to rid myself of these images. I need to do something else. Don't try to follow me, you won't be able to."
Rainbow dash looked confused. "Why are you telling only me?"
Skyline paused for a moment. "I felt like you were the right person."
Rainbow dash rubbed the back of her neck. "Look, you're a badass and all, but you seem to be distracted. You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine..."
"Good." And then she kissed him.
For a split second, Rainbow Dash was kissing Skyline. Skyline pulled away quickly.
"I-I......." Skyline was speechless.
"You alright?" Rainbow Dash asked. "Was I too blunt?"
Skyline blinked hard. "I-I gotta go." Skyline turned and flew back to his car. rainbow dash was left standing in her place, and sighed.
"I had to fuck it up..." She said.
***
Skyline ran inside his warehouse and found the car he would use. After a few moments, he ran to it and unlocked the door.
A 2002 Nissan Silvia S15. It was completely black and it was lowered respectably. It had no spoiler and BBS rims. With one of the biggest Twin Turbo systems on the market, the blow-off valve could be heard a mile away.
Skyline got in and found a pair of clothes in the trunk. A school uniform. He put them on and climbed into the driver's seat
He started the engine. He began to perform a very difficult spell. His wings started to shrink until the disappeared, and the car started to glow. He put his arm on his armor backpack and he set it to chop his arm. After a few moments, it inserted one into his arm. With that, his skin started turning into a normal human skin color.
His vision began to blur, and he put all his might into finishing the spell, and then the world around him shifted suddenly.
After the black spots cleared from his vision, he got out of his car and sat on the hood, looking at the large and beautiful building. He came at the right time, too. The first day was tomorrow.
He grabbed his backpack and slung it over his back and walked past the gates. As he walked in, he passed a plaque.
"Home sweet home." He said.
Starswirl Academy.
