Kingdom Hearts: Harmony of Hearts
Chapter 10
The Truth
Equestria: Canterlot ER
Twilight had tears in her eyes. Looking at Celestia in the hospital bed with a few bandages on her head, her mane and tail not flowing ethereally, and being hooked up to a heart monitor, it practically broke her heart to see her mother figure broken so. She didn’t understand why the unicorn, Vanitas, heartlessly attacked and threatened her, but she wasn’t going to let it slide.
Also, hearing what he said about the Elements of Harmony put her on edge. Remembering what had happened in her castle a week prior, she knew that Vanitas had somehow gotten their Elements from them, just as how the hooded pony had gotten her Element. As for what he was going to use them for, she was clueless as to how they would do it. The elements could only be used by herself and her friends and it could only be used to spread Harmony and Light, not Chaos and Darkness.
Twilight’s ears twitched when the door to the hospital room opened. Looking up she saw Princess Luna and Princess Cadence entering the room. They both had been helping the hospital staff with helping heal the wounded and defend the hospital during the battle. As the battle was over now, they had a chance to relax, but not easily, seeing as a fellow Princess had taken a hit in battle.
“How does she fare?” Luna asked.
“She’s alive at least,” Twilight said, “She suffered a strike to the head from a weapon just like that one.” Twilight pointed a hoof at Celestia’s Keyblade that was leaning on the stand next to her hospital bed.
Cadence looked at the weapon with curiosity. She lit her horn and tried to lift the weapon, but found that she could not. “The keyblade is a hoof and mouth weapon,” Luna suddenly said after Cadence tried lifting it with her magic.
Cadence and Twilight turned towards Luna in confusion. “How do you know about that?” They both asked.
“She used to wield a keyblade at one point,” a partially raspy voice said from the bed. Everypony looked to see Celesta was awake, but her hair still wasn’t flowing. She pulled herself into a partial sitting position on the bed just as Twilight rushed over to hug her, almost upsetting the hard work she made to sit up.
“Twilight, it’s nice to see that you are safe,” Celestia said.
“Just as it’s nice to see that you’re awake,” Twilight responded.
“We’re all glad to see you safe,” Cadence said, “But I’m curious about this ‘keyblade’.”
“I’m also curious about it as well,” Twilight said.
Celestia closed her eyes in contemplation before lighting her horn and teleporting in three cushions. “You may want to get comfortable,” she said, “It a very detailed and long story.”
Everypony got comfortable (which for Twilight, included grabbing a quill and paper). Celestia cast a soundproof spell on the walls and door, then began the story.
*************************
“Keyblades have a long and bloody history, spanning almost one and a half thousand years of time,” Celestia began, “Before that, all was peaceful and was bathed in light. All worlds were one.”
“So, there are more worlds than this one and Canterlot High?” Twilight asked.
“Correct, Twilight,” Luna said, “The worlds as we know them now became such because of a conflict known as the Keyblade War.”
“The Keyblade War started because everyone wanted the light they were bathed in.”
“That doesn’t seem like a reason to start a war,” Cadence said.
“True,” Luna said, “But it was greed that compelled them to fight. Each individual wanted the light for themselves and nobody else.”
“But the light, known as Kingdom Hearts, was guarded by a weapon known as the Χ-blade.”
“Keyblade?”
“No, Χ-blade,” Luna corrected, “Many pronounce it 'chi', but it meant the same.”
“Those who fought over the light created copies of it, the keyblades that we speak of. The initial fighting began with only a few fighting. But eventually, their fighting drew in more combatants, and with those combatants and the fighting, darkness was born. It desolated one world and shrouded the rest.”
“And the Χ-blade was shattered into twenty fragments,” Luna contributed, “Seven of Light…”
“And Thirteen of Darkness.” Celestia shuttered for a moment before continuing. “To this day, the destruction I saw and the hopelessness I felt was almost overwhelming for my young mind.”
“How did the Darkness not destroy the other worlds?” Twilight asked.
“That is what was amazing. Despite the destruction and hopelessness, the light from mine and Luna’s hearts was enough to dispel the Darkness enough for other survivors to rebuild the world we now live on.”
“As for the survivors that wielded keyblades,” Luna said, “They all vowed to use their keyblades to protect and serve others rather than fulfill their own wishes.”
“Luna and I came to wield keyblades shortly after a survivor of the War took us in as apprentices. Master Starswirl the Bearded and his other apprentice, Clover the Clever, treated us as family.”
"When Clover became a master, she built a tower between worlds and worked to watch the balance between the Light and the Darkness,” Luna said, “When she was nearing death, she passed her task to her apprentice, Yen Sid, and sealed her heart in a Crystal Ball that he keeps in the tower.”
“But what about you?” Cadence asked, “Did you and Luna ever take on apprentices?”
“Yes, we did. Luna took one, while I took many.”
“My apprentice became corrupted by Darkness and became the infamous King Sombra,” Luna said.
“As for my apprentices, I mentored them with hopes of finding a suitable keyblade bearer. None of them except you and Sunset Shimmer came close. She came the closest in terms of magical strength, but not strength of heart. You surpassed her in strength of heart and are magically powerful as well.”
“So you were training me to be a keyblade wielder?” Twilight asked.
“Yes, although, at the time I saw more of a heart of a Princess than that of a keyblade wielder. I never really thought of making you a keyblade wielder until after Silver Crown…”
“Ugh!” Twilight exclaimed in frustration, “What does Silver Crown have to do with any of this?! First, Shining is given his birth files and a vision from a mysterious pony, then you mention him just now as the reason to consider a keyblade!”
“Twilight, I didn’t give you a keyblade because I hadn’t thought of it.”
“I’m not angry about not having a keyblade,” Twilight snapped back, “I just want to know what Silver Crown has to do with everything that has happened so far! He’s dead!”
“Twilight Sparkle!” Celestia shouted in near Royal Canterlot Voice tone. After the Twilight settled down briefly, Celestia continued, “Do not disrespect your brother! He is alive and has done many great things for the safety and protection of this and all worlds!”
“Then why do the records say that he died shortly after birth?!”
“Twilight!” Cadence shouted, getting Twilight’s attention. “Calm Down! Breathe!” Twilight took her former foalsitter’s advice and used the breathing exercise she was taught to ease her stress. Once she calmed down, Celestia began to explain more.
“When you and your brother were born, there was nothing out of the ordinary at first. However, roughly two weeks after that, some doctors came to me with an issue they were experiencing involving you and him. Silver Crown had an excess of magic in his system, something unusual for a pegasus foal. The thing they had called me in for, however, had to deal with you.”
"Me?”
“Yes. Unknowingly and unconsciously, you were siphoning the excess magic off of him and the doctors were concerned. I looked into it and couldn’t find any way to stop it short of separating you and him. But there was a problem with that. It would involve taking him to another world and the knowledge of other worlds’ existence was forbidden except to a select few.”
“So you took him away and had the doctors say that what happened killed him?”
“Yes, but the problem is now non-existent.”
“How so?” Cadence and Twilight asked.
“It was when I had transported him to another world. As we arrived, the excess magic that you didn’t siphon off, dissipated and a chain necklace with a silver crown on it appeared around his neck,” Celestia paused to let the info sink in, “That was the time, I believe, he received his cutie mark.”
“At that age?”
“Twilight,” Luna said, “Foals receiving their cutie marks that young are about as rare as ponies reaching adult age without a cutie mark.”
“Yes, and his cutie mark, from what I’ve been told about him from Yen Sid, means that he was crowned as one of few destined to keep the worlds at peace.”
“So, then the pony that my husband won’t leave is Him?” Cadence asked. Celestia nodded. Without another word, Cadence left the room, leaving a slight distortion in Celestia’s sound barrier.
“And Silver’s pendant didn’t revert back into his cutie mark because…?” Twilight said, expectantly.
“I placed a spell on the pendant so that if he was to return to Equestria, whether willingly, unknowingly, or accidentally, he would still have the physical pendant and anything that he would find familiar and I would be alerted to his arrival.”
“Well, that explains the golden clothes, but how did you know his pseudonym?”
“Yed Sid keeps me informed of various happenings off world. As it turns out, his name and unorthodox apprenticeship was some of what he told me.”
“Is there anything else I need to know?”
“It’s nothing that your brother can’t tell.”
“Okay, I’ll talk to him,” Twilight said, and began to leave.
“Twilight,” Luna called out, “Remember, the knowledge of other worlds is to be kept secret. You may tell Shining, your fiancè, and your friends if they are sworn to secrecy.”
“I’ll remember that.” Twilight then left Celestia alone.

Unknown World: Unknown Location
“The Force is strong with this one,” a raspy, almost robotic voice said.
“Yes, as a Princess of Heart, it is to be expected,” a motherly, yet sinister voice answered. “However, upon closer inspection, it seemed unusual for a common child to be a Princess of Heart. Thankfully, the Book of Prophecy shed some light on the reasoning. Born with the Royal blood of a...unique world, she has been endowed with a rather powerful heart.”
“What of this unique world?”
“More information would have been gleaned from the Book had that clumsy oaf, Pete, not misplaced it!” The female voice said, rage evident in some of the words. “However, despite that setback, one important detail was found. A Crystal Heart that radiates what nearby people feel to the rest of the world it’s on. Think of the possibilities, we could shroud an entire world in Darkness.”
"Perhaps Pete may have his use after all.”
“And what would that be?”
“Have him placed there to obtain the Crystal Heart, one way or another.”
“He would probably fail, but I suppose having him there to start a dark influence wouldn’t hurt.”
“I can sense Darkness growing in the brightest recesses of the Light. It would do well to take advantage of this shift in the Force. Send Pete and the group known as Beagle Boys.”
“Yes, that may be what is needed to obtain our goal.”
