Chapter 17
Ponyville Problems
Equestria: En Route to Ponyville
“So, how are we going to pull this off?” Flash shouted over the wind to Shining Armor. Shining looked to Flash and answered.
“We don’t know what we’re up against, but Silver may be the best one to answer that question,” he answered while putting a hoof on Silver’s shoulder. Silver, having heard the brief conversation, looked to Shining.
“How do we communicate my plan Idea to everypony else?” Silver voiced his concern. Himself, the other keybearers, and Cadence were riding in one transport chariot, while five of the six Bearers of Harmony rode in the other (well, technically four, since Rainbow Dash insisted on flying alongside the two chariots).
“I’ll help with that,” Twilight said, lighting her horn, which in turn lit up Silver’s throat.
He turned to the other chariot and called out, “Can everypony in that chariot hear me?” Fluttershy waved in confirmation. Silver looked for Rainbow Dash, but couldn’t find her. “Can Rainbow Dash hear me or is she even paying attention?”
“Yes to both,” Rainbow said suddenly behind him, nearly scaring him off the side of the chariot. She laughed loudly at his reaction.
After both calmed down, Silver spoke his plan. “Alright, If we’re facing what I think we’re facing, we need to put top priority on taking out the creatures at you guy’s places. But we can’t just do one at a time in one big group, it’ll take too long,” he stated. He took a breath and continued, “So we’ll split up into pairs. Shining will work with Applejack and clear her place. Flash and Rarity will handle...well...her place. Cadence will go with Fluttershy. Twilight with Pinkie. And I’ll take Rainbow Dash. After all the locations are cleared, we’ll all meet at the Castle and clear it as a team. Any questions, comments, or complaints?”
Everypony confirmed their understanding and not a moment too soon. They had arrived.
Equestria: Ponyville
“Alright, Everypony!” Silver called out as they were getting close to the center of town. “As soon as we touch the ground, don’t wait for the chariots to stop. Just jump out and get going to your destinations.” The chariots touched down and everypony bolted from the chariots. Rainbow was already flying to her cloud house when they had gotten into the town limits. After the chariots landed, he took off flying in the direction that he last remembered her to have flown.
He flew until he saw what looked like a prismatic tornado knocking several flying creatures around. Once the tornado stopped, he saw Rainbow from where it had stopped, and she looked like she was having the time of her life. She charged into the group of creatures just as Silver was able to identify what the creatures were.
“Rapid Thruster Heartless,” Silver muttered in loathing, “I really hate those things.” He charged into the swarm, sweeping and knocking a number of them around. However, with the size and constant movement of the swarm, he was only doing superficial damage. A few times, a sizable group tried to attack all at once, but he was able to react, spinning his keyblade to catch them and then swinging it around himself, making blades of wind to take out the offending group. He saw Rainbow fly through the swarm, taking out a few Heartless with every pass.
On her umpteenth pass, an idea popped into his head. Thinking and reacting quickly, he grabbed Rainbow’s tail, stopping her forward momentum. “Hey! What’s the big idea?!” Without answering, Silver began to spin. “Whoa! Hey! What are you doing?!” In response, he flung her at high speeds, her wings barely managing to direct her flight into the thickest part of the swarm. An air cone was forming over her head just as she got into the swarm. Recognizing what was going to happen, she flapped her wings harder to gain speed. Eventually, the cone exploded into the Sonic Rainboom, taking out a large chunk of the swarm.
After the Sonic Rainboom sounded off, Rainbow was in, out, and around the swarm faster than they had time to react. In one of her passes, she saw that Silver was flying around doing the same thing. Flying in, out, and around the swarm. A few minutes of flying around like that, and more of the swarm was taken down. Rainbow was in her element.
It wasn’t a few minutes later when Rainbow and Silver were flying side by side in a circular pattern. Their flying went faster and faster until a tornado of white light and Rainbow colors was formed and the entire swarm was sucked in. Silver took his keyblade and tossed it into the center of the tornado. It spun within the wind and destroyed the majority of the swarm, leaving a hoof-full left for the two of them to handle.
“That...Was...AWESOME!!!” She cheered, giving Silver a hoof bump.
Equestria: Sweet Apple Acres
Shining Armor and Applejack ran through the fields with as much haste that could be mustered. Just as they had gotten to a small clearing, several Heartless with green and red apple shaped heads appeared and surrounded the two. No words were exchanged between the two ponies. Shining summoned his keyblade and began to hack and slash at the Apple Heartless, while Applejack did what she did best with apples...Buck them.
While they could have been able to handle the Heartless on their own, Shining had an idea. He had no idea where the idea came from but he put it into action. He slammed his keyblade on the ground, sending a pillar of stone upwards under Applejack, sending her flying. She was taken by surprise, but not for very long. She took advantage of the short flight and used the gravity of her fall combined with a well aimed slam of her hooves and sent the Heartless flying. Shining then conjured a dome shield and he began knocking the Heartless at Applejack, who promptly bucked them back.
They knocked Heartless back and forth like tennis balls for a few minutes, before he teleported both of them out of the barrier. He then compressed the shield into a sphere full of Heartless and presented it to Applejack. She charged up a strike and bucked the shield, shattering it and sending the Heartless out of sight and mind.
Equestria: Edge of the Everfree
When Fluttershy had heard about what the Heartless were, she felt that she wouldn’t be much of a help in a fight. However, when she and Princess Cadence had arrived at her cottage near the Everfree Forest, she wasn’t expecting the Heartless to be cleaning her cottage and its yard.
The Heartless in question looked like short mushrooms. They didn’t seem hostile, nor did they make any move to be hostile. As a matter of fact, when her and Cadence they seemed to respond with a strange joy. One of them, blue with a yellow cap, seemed to be the leader of the Mushroom Heartless and directed them to some hostile Mushroom Heartless, motioning for the corralled Heartless to be taken down.
Cadence wasted no time in taking them down. Meanwhile, Fluttershy began playing with the blue and yellow Mushroom Heartless.
Equestria: Sugarcube Corner
“YAH!!! EVIL CAKE!!! KILL IT!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!”
Those were the first words out of Pinkie’s mouth when she entered Sugarcube Corner. Before Twilight even entered the establishment, Pinkie had pulled a flamethrower out of her hair and began to flambé the cake themed Heartless. Twilight was then resigned to trying to keep the place from burning down.
Just as Twilight finished dousing a blaze on one of the tables, Pinkie randomly grabbed her and started to spin in place. Twilight had her keyblade out at the time, so the spinning caught several Heartless and sent them spinning into each other like a bunch of Beyblades.
After a while of spinning, Pinkie started rapidly pulling Twilight’s tail, causing her and her keyblade to start firing off spells at machine gun speed. Any and all Heartless were hit with all manner of combat spells. Finally, she took firm hold of Twilight’s tail and swung her with it. The holding of the tail caused Twilight to fire a continuous beam of magic until Pinkie stopped spinning. When she did, the Heartless were gone and Sugarcube Corner was, more or less, intact.
“Urgh, Pinkie, why did you do that?” A dizzy Twilight asked.
“How else was the Limit going to activate?”
Twilight just shook her head at her friend’s randomness.
Equestria: Carousel Boutique
When Rarity and Flash arrived at the Boutique and found all of the windows shattered, and all gems were stripped from the clothing in the store. The perpetrators, a bunch of Heartless that resembled bags of gems, were standing...or sitting...ready to attack any attackers. Upon seeing the two ponies approach, they began pelting gems at the two of them.
What the bags didn’t realize (if they could realize anything) was Rarity’s talent with gems. She caught them in her magic aura, a disapproving look on her face. “Seriously?” She questioned, “Using such beauty for something as barbaric and simple as throwing? Such a crime against fabulosity!” She then levitated the gems to her head level with a scowl on her face. “Besides, you’re doing it wrong.” She then shot the gems at the Heartless at bullet speed, vaporizing the bags, but leaving all the gems intact.
Once those defences were down, Flash rushed inside and began to slice down the Heartless while Rarity gather all the dropped gems.
Unknown world: Unknown location
“Your diversion was well played, but short lived.”
“Yes, Loki. As short as the illusion of invasion was, that amount of time is all that is needed for the mirror’s key to be found.”
“And destroyed.”
“No, disabled. That young alicorn will be worrying so much about using the set way, that the keyblade will be far from her mind.”
“We can then strike and take this world.”
“And end that miserable brat that has interfered in my plans for far too long.”
