Chapter Eleven: Secrets
Soarin stirred in his sleep, as he slowly drifted back from the realm of dreams. He opened his eyes, and instantly started to question his surroundings.
Where am I? He asked himself.
It was then when he noticed somepony laying beside him, softly snoring. He looked down, to see Rainbow Dash, with her head in his chest, and his wing around her back.
Slowly, memories of the prior day started to flood in. Soarin tenderly smiled at the rainbow maned mare, as he laid his head back onto her mane.
Oh, Dashie... He quietly thought to himself, sighing in sheer content. Rainbow Dash slowly started to stir, before finally waking up, going through the same procedure Soarin did when he woke up.
She silently gasped to herself, as she realized what had happened the night before. She glanced up to Soarin, who was softly smiling down at her, with a strange look.
"Uh... Soarin?" She asked slowly. Soarin shook his head, and nodded towards the cyan mare.
"Yes, Dashie?" He asked her quietly. Dash quickly looked down, instantly fearing what he would think of her, after yesterday.
"I'm... Sorry..." She said slowly, trailing off near the end. Soarin gave her a confusing look.
"What ever for, Dash?" He asked her, clearly trying to figure out what she was talking about. Dash looked down again.
"I didn't mean to... Spring myself on you like that..." She said sheepishly. Soarin just chuckled, and draped his wing around her tighter.
"I'm glad you did... It was getting kind of hard to keep all those feelings bottled inside me for so long..." He told her. Dash looked up at him incredulously.
"What do you mean?" She asked him. Soarin sighed.
"Pause for dramatic effect..." He said, earning a giggle from Dash. He smiled, and continued.
"Rainbow... I've kind of liked you for a while now..." He said. Dash's eyes widened.
"Really?" She asked in surprise. Soarin nodded sheepishly.
"Yeah..." He said. "It's okay if you don't return the feelings... I get it." He told her. Dash smirked.
She took her hoof, and pushed Soarin's face up to look at her.
"Would I do this, if I didn't like you?" She asked him, leaning in.
She slowly captured his lips in another passionate kiss. Soarin was taken by surprise, but returned the kiss anyway. He smiled beneath it, before pulling away. Dash smiled up at him, before looking down again.
"Look, Soarin. I like you too... A lot... But I don't really want anypony to know about it..." She said slowly. "It's just that... All throughout my life... I've always been the one who was too busy to care for stallions... I told everypony that the day I got one... Would be the day Princess Celestia died of old age... I just don't know how everypony would take it..." She told him. Soarin looked down at her, and nodded.
"Yeah... And I can't really be in a relationship with you..." He said. Dash whipped her face up, and stared at him with a horrifying expression. Soarin frowned, at looked down, away from the mare.
"You see... There's this rule with the Wonderbolts... I can't date anypony, because it might prove to be a distraction. If I do... I'll get kicked out of the Wonderbolts! You heard it yourself from Spitfire yesterday!" Soarin told her. Dash looked down, clearly saddened by the news. Soarin saw this, and reached his hoof to her chin, lifting her face up to look at him. He have her a tender smile.
"But I'll do it anyway... I want to pursue a relationship with you... So we can have one... It just needs to be a secret." He told her, in a voice barely above a whisper. Dash gave him a shocked look.
"What? Soarin! You can't risk your career for me!" She said, in an unbelieving tone. Soarin just smiled down upon her.
"But I want to take that chance... You're probably the best thing that's ever happened to me, Rainbow Dash..." He said. Now Dash knew he was being serious, because he called her by her real name... Not Dashie.
"Are you sure about this, Soarin? I don't want to be the cause of your downfall!" She persisted. Soarin sighed, and nodded.
"Yes, Rainbow. I am completely, one-hundred percent sure." He said. Dash took a deep breath, but nodded.
"Alright." She finally agreed. Soarin smiled, and pulled her into a tight embrace.
The two ponies held on to each other like their life depended on it. They were really happy to finally be with each other, but they both knew it came at a price. Soarin then spoke into her fur.
"We should get going... Ponies will be wondering where we are..." He told her. Dash nodded, and let go of him.
"Yeah..." She said, as they both took off, and went back inside the compound.
"What do you want to do today, Dashie?" Soarin asked his marefriend, who was flying beside him. Dash thought about this, before shrugging.
"Eh... Doesn't really matter to me... I just want to spend some time with you..." She said. Soarin chuckled, and nodded.
"I was thinking the same thing. So how 'bout we just relax in the compound together? We have two days off!" He said. Dash smiled, and nodded, before frowning. Soarin saw this, and looked at the mare with a concerned look.
"What's the matter, Dashie?" He asked her. Dash looked up at him, with guilty eyes.
"It's just that... Before I came here... I promised my Dad I wouldn't get a coltfriend... Now look at me..." She said. Soarin raised an eyebrow.
"Why would he tell you that?" He asked her. Dash looked up at him with a comical smile.
"He's very overprotective of me... So try to save your life when you first meet him..." She told him. Soarin gulped.
"Oh no... Let's do me a favor... And wait as much time as possible before I meet your parents..." He told her, giving a foalish smile. Dash burst out laughing.
"Hey! Those are my parents you're talking about! But, yeah... You're right..." She said. Soarin grinned.
"Glad I could get you to smile..." He said. Dash realized what he had done, and gave him a hug.
"Thanks... I needed that..." She told his shoulder. Soarin smiled softly at her, as she let go of him.
"Hey Dashie?" He asked her. Dash looked up at him.
"Yeah, Soar?" She asked him, using her nickname for him. He smiled.
"I'm really glad you're my marefriend..." He said lovingly. Dash blushed.
"And I'm glad you're my coltfriend." She said simply, closing her eyes, and leaning in to kiss him.
Unknowing to both of them, Spitfire was walking down the same hallway they were in, stopping dead in her tracks, as she saw the sight in front of her.
