Chapter Twelve: I Love You

Rainbow Dash slowly pulled herself away from Soarin, and they both gazed into each others eyes.

"I love you, Soarin..." She said softly. Soarin's eyes widened.

"You... You do?" He asked uncertainly. Dash nodded. Soarin blushed profusely.

"Well... I love you too, Dashie... More than anything in the world..." He said lovingly. Now it was Dash's turn to blush... Nopony had ever told her that before!

Suddenly, someone behind them cleared their throat. Dash and Soarin both jumped in surprise, before they quickly turned to see who it was.

The minute they saw who had cleared their throat, they gasped. It was Spitfire! She had just seen the entire intimate moment they had shared! Soarin leaned over to Dash's ear.

"Well, we had a good few hours..." He said. Dash raised an eyebrow at him. Spitfire started turning red with anger.

"What is going on here?" She asked, in a strangely calm tone. Dash and Soarin looked at each other with wide eyes.

"Uh... Nothing?" Soarin said, turning his statement into a question. Spitfire furrowed her eyebrows.

"Nothing? Really? Because I was just walking down the hallway, when I saw you and Rainbow Dash kissing! Then, I heard you confessing your love for each other! So, god save me, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY NOTHING?" Spitfire asked angrily. Dash gulped, as she tried to speak up.

"Uh... We were... Trying to display our friendship in a new way?" She told her uncertainly. Spitfire's expression remained, as she shook her head in a disapproving fashion.

"Would somepony PLEASE explain to me what is going on?" She asked to space. Soarin and Dash both looked down in guilt, something which Spitfire clearly saw. Soarin cleared his throat.

"Um... Well, last night... Some... Stuff! Yeah! Stuff! Stuff happened! And... We may or may not be a couple right about now?" Soarin said, trailing off at the end. Spitfire gasped.

"WHAT?! SOARIN! YOU KNOW THE RULES!" She blared. Soarin gulped again, Dash looked down, ashamed by the guilt.

"Sorry, Spitfire... I thought we could keep the relationship a secret... Turns out kissing in the compound isn't the best way to do that..." Soarin said, receiving a punch in the gut by a certain cyan coated mare.

"What the hay, Soarin?" She asked in disbelief. Spitfire just sighed, and shook her head.

"I'm afraid rules are rules... Soarin, I have no other choice but to kick you out of the Wonderbolts..." She said sorrowfully. Dash jumped.

"NO! Please, Spitfire! Isn't there anything you can do?" She pleaded. Spitfire shook her head.

"I'm afraid not... It clearly states so in the Wonderbolt's Handbook." She said. Dash thought about this for a while.

"Uh... Do you mind if I take a look at where it says that?" She asked her. Spitfire raised an eyebrow, but nodded slowly.

"I don't see why not... Follow me, you two." She said, starting to make her way to her office. Dash and Soarin quickly followed behind.

Rainbow Dash looked over at Soarin, instantly noting his glum look. She leaned over to him.

"Don't worry, Soar! Everything is going to be just fine!" She whispered over to him. They didn't notice, but Spitfire's ears perked up. She had incredible hearing abilities, even though she was many feet away from them.

Soarin looked over to his marefriend, and gave a soft sigh. He looked at Dash's hoof, and took it in his own.

"Dashie... I have spent my entire life dreaming to become a Wonderbolt! What if everything DOESN'T turn out to be fine? What if I end up losing my work line?" He whispered, expressing his concerns. Dash gave him a sympathetic smile.

"It's okay, Soarin. We can work this out..." She replied softly, planting a light kiss onto his cheek. Soarin smiled down at her, and gave her a quick hug, before returning to his previous position.

From ahead, Spitfire smiled softly. They really did make the perfect couple. It would be a shame to lose Soarin from the team. He had been her oldest, and best friend.

They soon arrived at Spitfire's office. Dash and Soarin entered just in time to see Spitfire rummaging through her drawers, and pulling out a thick book. She handed it over to Dash.

"Here. Page 739, section four." She told her. Dash took the book, and nodded, turning to the page.

The very first sentence of the section, stated; "Wonderbolts may not be involved in any sort of romantic relationship, if it proves to be a distraction." Dash frowned.

She read over the sentence, grimacing multiple times, before lighting up. Spitfire raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"What happened?" She asked. Dash grinned, and pointed to the word 'if.'

"IF! IF! IF! IF IT PROVES TO BE A DISTRACTION! IF!" She exclaimed happily. Spitfire's expression remained.

"What about it?" She asked in confusion. Dash rolled her eyes.

"It says IF! If I DON'T prove to be a distraction, then Soarin can stay with the Wonderbolts!" She exclaimed. Spitfire thought this over, before slowly nodding.

"Well, I guess... But remember whats at stake here! I really don't want to kick any of you out... And that's the LAST resort! If this turns out to be a distraction, I'm going to either have to split you two up, OR have Soarin leave the Wonderbolts, and you leave tryouts." Spitfire explained. Dash and Soarin looked at each other, and smiled happily.

"Thank you, Spitfire!" They both told her gratefully. Spitfire just nodded, and shook her hoof.

"Yeah yeah... Now go and enjoy your first day off!" She said. Dash and Soarin both nodded, and headed to the door, just to be stopped by Spitfire again.

"Oh! One more thing! This whole thing MUST be kept a secret! From the team, and the rest of the recruits. If the recruits find out, no doubt they would start assuming Rainbow Dash would have an advantage, OR that she was using him to get to the top." She explained. Rainbow and Soarin nodded. Spitfire then started to glare at Dash for some reason.

"You... Aren't... Right?" She asked her. Rainbow instantly shook her head.

"No way! Even I'M not that cold-hearted!" She replied. Soarin smiled. Spitfire did as well.

"Alright. That is all. Dismissed." She said, and wen't back to looking over the posters for their upcoming show. Dash and Soarin looked at each other, and then both walked out of the office together.

Once they were safely out, Soarin turned to Dash, and embraced her in a long, tight hug.

"DASHIE! You did it! Thank you SO much!" He said, spinning her around. Rainbow giggled.

"No problem, Soarin! I always stay loyal to my friends! They don't call me the Element of Loyalty for nothing!" She boated. Soarin chuckled, and nodded, before hugging her once again.

"Dashie... How could I ever repay you?" He asked her back. Dash sighed, and let go of him.

"Well, there is ONE way... How 'bout we don't show any public affection? We don't wanna get caught! Again..." She said, adding the last part later. Soarin instantly nodded.

"Of course! That includes now! Wanna hang out in my room?" He asked her. Dash nodded.

"Yeah, sure!" She replied. Soarin nodded, and the two headed to his room.
