Chapter Seventeen: Overprotective

MY GOD how I love my readers! You people are AMAZING! Your comments MAKE MY DAY! THANK YOU for sticking with me!!!

The next morning, Soarin and Dash woke up in the same position they were the night before. Dash was still cuddled up in Soarin's chest, and Soarin still had his hoof in her mane. Dash stirred, as she woke up, and clutched onto Soarin, who had woken up a few minutes prior.

"Soarin... What are we going to do?" She asked him. Soarin sighed, and stroked Dash's mane once again.

"I don't know, my love... Hopefully your father will come to his senses soon... I really can't bear any more pain... My wings are already aching, and my whole face is stinging." He said sorrowfully. Dash gave him a sad look..

"I'm sorry... I shouldn't have asked you why you loved me... If we hadn't shared that moment... None of this would have happened... It's all my fault..." She said, a few tears escaping her eyes. Soarin shook his head instantly.

"No, Dashie! Of course it isn't your fault! We should have been paying attention to who had entered the compound... But we didn't... I didn't..." Soarin said. Dash got up, and brushed herself off, helping her coltfriend off of the floor.

"Come on... We should go get something to eat... We skipped lunch and dinner yesterday..." She told him. Soarin nodded, before planting a light kiss on her forehead.

"I'm sorry I can't sit with you... But you know what might happen if the whole compound found out about our relationship... As much as I would like to spend the morning with you... Sorry, Dashie. Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Wonderbolt..." Soarin said. Dash gasped, and put a hoof to his mouth.

"Don't say that, Soar! Be thankful for what you have!" She told him. Soarin gave her a small smile, and hugged her quickly.

"Of course I am... I'm thankful I have you..." He told her, nuzzling her shoulder gently. Dash instantly bushed, and let go of him. She looked up to him with big eyes.

"Hey, Soar? Promise me you won't hurt yourself ever again... Please..." She told him softly. Soarin smiled.

"Of course." He said, before placing her on his back, and starting to trot out of the small room.

The couple made a quick stop to the nurse, where a few examinations were held, and Soarin got a fresh bandage for his nose. It was a small one, that you could only see if you looked really closely.

"His left wing has a small fracture in it... The right wing is just bruised." The nurse told him. Dash and Soarin gasped. Soarin was the first to speak.

"Will I be able to fly?" He asked, right before receiving a light punch from Rainbow.

"Of course not, dummy! How long till he's able to fly?" She said, redirecting the last part to the nurse. The nurse examined some papers, before humming.

"Hmm... Should be a couple weeks. Three weeks tops." She said, coming to a conclusion. Soarin groaned, as the nurse started to wrap his wing in bandages.

"I should be thankful that Spitfire scheduled no shows till tryouts are over... Alright. Thanks Nurse Paradise!" Soarin said, thanking the green coated nurse. Paradise smiled, and nodded.

"Of course." She said. Soarin and Dash smiled back at the nurse, before heading to the mess hall for breakfast.

When the two arrived, Dash stopped, and let Soarin go inside. A few seconds later, she entered by herself, to make it seem like they came in separately. She saw her parents talking with the Wonderbolts.

Spitfire made a motion to Soarin once she saw him enter the hall, and gestured for him to come over. Soarin saw this, and trotted over, stopping when he came face to face with Rainbow's parents. His eyes widened, as he took a step back.

"Soarin! This is Rainbow Blaze and Firefly, Rainbow Dash's parents! They have decided to come here for a few days, just to see how the program works. They were both recruits a long time ago!" Spitfire explained. Soarin looked at her with wide eyes, before reluctantly nodding. Rainbow Blaze stepped up.

"So! Could one of you please tell me what the... involvement of you and the recruits are? What things do you do together?" Blaze asked, directing his question mostly to Soarin. Soarin gulped, and cleared his throat.

"Well... Everyday, a new member of the elite Wonderbolts take over training for the day! For the first day, we had Misty Fly, and the second, we had Rapidfire. Today, it's me!" Soarin said, nervously chuckling at the end. Blaze's eyes narrowed.

"Interesting... And what are you planning for the day, Mr. Soarin?" He asked him. Soarin thought about this.

"Well, I'm thinking we could work on some basic flight moves. The Wonderbolts must know all the different styles of flying, and that is what I'll be covering today. And, as a special surprise, I will be picking names out of a hat, and assigning the recruits each to a Wonderbolt, who will be seeing their moves, and helping them in any way possible to perfect them." Soarin explained. Blaze glared at him.

"And the assignment process will be completely random?" He asked suspiciously. Soarin nodded his head in reassurance. Blaze nodded.

"Good. We wouldn't want any Wonderbolt playing unfair for their own purposes, now would we?" He asked slyly. Soarin gulped, and nodded, getting the point Blaze was displaying. He then turned back to Spitfire, who was giving him a curious look.

"Hey, Soarin? What the hay happened to your wing?" She asked him. Soarin gulped again, and glanced over at Rainbow Blaze, who was looking at the golden mare with an innocent smile. Soarin groaned, and tried to come up with an excuse.

"Um... I... Broke it while... Running into Rapidfire! Yeah! That's what happened!" He lied. Spitfire gave him a curious stare, before shrugging, and walking off. Soarin sighed in relief, as he felt a little tap on his shoulder. He turned around, to see Rainbow Dash floating, with her front hooves on her hips. She bonked him on the head.

"Hey Mister Soarin! Lemme give you some advice. If you want to make any progress with training today... EAT SOMETHING!" She said harshly, before pushing him to the food lines. Soarin looked back at her, and gave her a curious stare.

"Uh... Dash? You okay?" He asked her, while picking up a bowl of oatmeal. Dash gave him a look.

"Of course I'm okay! I'm the freaking Rainbow Dash!" She said, giving him a light punch, and then flipping her mane to emphasize her point. Soarin rolled his eyes.

"Yup. You are pretty amazing!" He said, before heading over to the Wonderbolt's table. He turned back to her one last time.

"I would kiss you... But nah." He said. Dash glared playfully at him, before spinning him around, and pushing him towards his table. She rolled her eyes.

"Goof." She mumbled, before heading back to her own table.

From a few tables away, Firefly and Blaze were looking at the young couple. Well... More like Blaze was trying to break free from Firefly's grip, so he could go and pounce on Soarin. Firefly, though, being the strong willed mare she was, didn't let him. She pulled the periwinkle coated stallion back, and stared at him.

"What is with you? Why are you acting so overprotective?" She asked him. Blaze grumbled some inaudible words.

"I can't let Dash get hurt again..." He said quietly. Firefly rolled her eyes, and pointed towards Soarin. She then looked back at her husband.

"Do you really think that dope would hurt our little girl? You saw how much he cares about her! And the feeling is mutual! Why don't you just let Dash take care of this one?" Firefly requested. Blaze rolled his eyes, before glancing at Soarin.

"We might think he is all good... But you never know, Fly! Maybe behind that mask, there's a player!" He said unconvincingly. Firefly looked at her husband with a critical expression.

"Look... I know you want to look out for her! Trust me, I do! But you can't make all these bad assumptions! We've only been here for a couple hours. There is still a lot we have yet to discover about Soarin. So lets take this one step at a time, okay?" Firefly asked. Blaze sighed, and nodded.

"Oh.... Alright."
