A Dash of Happiness Soared Through the Skies

Chapter Two: Parents

Rainbow Dash spun through the sky, rotating clouds, and then abruptly punching through them. She was busy practicing for the Wonderbolt tryouts... Of course. She glanced down below, and saw her Mom and Dad staring at her intently. She instantly became a little self-conscious, and gave a little less effort into her throws. There was a loud whistling sound, and Rainbow looked down to see her mother calling her over.

Dash quickly descended down to where her parents were, and smiled. Her mother, a light pink pegasus with a cerulean mane smiled back, as did her father, a periwinkle coated pegasus, with a short rainbow mane.

"We're so proud of you, Dashie!" Firefly told her daughter. Rainbow giggled in response. Then, she caught herself, and simply smiled.

"Thanks, Mom!" She told her mother, who was beaming with pride.

"Yeah, Dash! You get 'em!" Rainbow Blaze told his daughter. Dash grinned.

"Thanks, Dad! It's going to be a lot of work... But I'm Rainbow Dash! And I can do ANYTHING!" Dash boasted pridefully.

"Yeah... Except being a little modest... Wonder where she gets that from?" Blaze mumbled under his breath. Firefly narrowed her eyes. And swiftly kicked her husband in the shin.

"Ow..." Blaze said sarcastically. Dash snorted in response. Her parents were always acting a little goofy every now and then.

"So! What brings you to Ponyville? You don't usually leave Cloudsdale unless there is an emergency!" She asked her parents. They smiled at one another.

"To see you off, of course!" Firefly said, before flying up, and doing a few somersaults.

"We're just so happy you finally accomplished your dream, Dashie!" She said, while landing. "Your an excellent flyer!" She said. Blaze snorted.

"Well, of course she's a great flyer! I taught her everything she knows!" Blaze said pridefully. Firefly smirked.

"Look who's being modest now!" She said under her breath. Now it was her turn to receive a kick from her partner.

"Hey! It isn't polite to kick a mare!" Firefly yelled to her husband. Blaze laughed.

"Yeah... A mare..." Blaze said quietly. Before quickly regretting it, and getting a hard punch in the gut. Dash laughed some more.

"Look, as fun as it is to see you guys, I really need to get to the train station soon..." She said. Blaze checked the town clock, and nodded.

"Alright... We'll come with you. Aren't you going to call your friends?" He asked her. Rainbow nodded.

"Yup. They told me they would meet me there. So we can catch up on the way, if you want!" Dash said eagerly. She rarely got to spend time with her parents, and now that she was going way for a few months, they would probably be too busy to meet up!

"Sure, Dashie! We'll walk with you!" Firefly said. Dash grinned, and started flying.

"But I wanna fly! Come on! Let's go!" She said. Her parents smiled, and took off behind her.

"So! What kinds of things are you going to do at the tryouts?" Blaze asked his daughter. Dash looked over to him, and thought about his question.

"Well, the form said stuff about endurance tests, teamwork tests, and the ability to communicate with the opposite gender. Along with a bunch of other things." Dash said. Blaze's eyes narrowed.

"The ability to communicate with the opposite gender? Why?" He asked. Dash rolled her eyes. Her father had always been a little overprotective of her.

"Because many ponies can only communicate well with one gender, their own. And since the Wonderbolts are a unisex organization, they need to make sure you can work well with both genders." Dash explained to her father. He glared some more.

"Humph... Just don't get to close with the stallions." Blaze told her. Dash chuckled.

Well, DUH! Rainbow Dash doesn't need STALLIONS! They would make her 20% less cool..." Dash said. Blaze chuckled, and gave her a noogie.

"That's my girl!" He said. Dash grinned, and cleared up her mane. Firefly rolled her eyes, and joined the two together.

"Oh don't listen to him, Dashie! It's fine! Your a grown mare now!" She said lovingly. Dash smiled.

"Uhh... Thanks... I guess... But I'm serious... I don't need a special somepony, and I'm not planning on getting one anytime soon... Oh look! We're here!" Dash said happily. She really wanted to get out of that conversation.

"We are! There are your friends! The pink one is waving!" Firefly said, as she waved back. This, of course was a horrible mistake. Pinkie Pie dashed up to the family, and hugged Firefly extremely tightly.

"Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie! You must be Rainbow Dash's mommy!" She said frantically. Firefly giggled.

"You're right! I am! Let's go get some coffee! Bye Dashie! Have a wonderful time!" She said, and kissed her daughter on the forehead. Dash immediately cringed at the public display of affection, but shook it off.

"Hehe... Thank's mom! Bye!" Dash said. Firefly smiled, and went back with Pinkie Pie. Pinkie Pie first, though have a bone crushing hug to her rainbow maned friend.

"Byeee!!!!" She said loudly, before zipping off with the older pink mare by her side. Dash rolled her eyes, and went back to her father, and other four friends.

"Have a wonderful time, darling!" Rarity said. Dash smiled, and gave her fashion forward friend a hug.

"Thanks Rarity! And don't worry... I will!" She replied. Rarity nodded.

"Bye RD! We're sure gonna miss ya!" Applejack exclaimed. Dash grinned.

"I'm gonna miss ya too AJ!" She said.

"Have fun, Rainbow!" Fluttershy said, a little less energetic than her other friends. Dash grinned some more.

"Bye Fluttershy! And don't worry, I'll document those animals you asked me to!" She told her yellow friend. Fluttershy squealed, and hugged the cyan mare.

"Bye Rainbow, have a great time!" Twilight said, as she hugged Dash. Dash smiled at all her friends.

"Thanks Twilight. Thanks all of you! I'm gonna miss you all so much! But don't worry... I'll be back in a few months! Unless they make me a Wonderbolt instantly! Which we all know might happen!" Dash boasted. Her friends all rolled their eyes, and went in for the final group hug.

"Well, Dash! Have a great time! And don't forget about what I said!" Blaze said to his daughter. Dash smiled.

"Thanks Dad! Bye everypony! I've already made the train wait for me long enough! I'll see you soon!" She said, as she boarded the train, which had arrived a couple minutes before hand.

"Bye!" They all chorused, as the train gates closed.
