Chapter Twenty: A Little Break

Rainbow Blaze dropped the knife he had held in his hoofs the minute he saw what was in front of him.

Soarin was leaning in.

He expected his daughter to do the smart thing, and back away, but she didn't. Dash just giggled at the stallion, before pulling him in forcefully, diminishing the gap between them.

Blaze was frozen in shock. This had to be a mistake! The Rainbow he knew hated relationships! Why was she being so... Romantic? Blaze kept a close watch on them, as he quietly put the knife away.

Dash slowly let go of Soarin, and bumped their foreheads together. Soarin chuckled, as he did the same.

"Your breath smells." Dash said suddenly. Soarin grimaced, as he pulled away from her, checking his breath. He scrunched his nose in disgust, and got up, going inside the kitchen. Blaze saw this, and quickly ducked out of sight. Soarin returned seconds later with a pack of breath-mints. He opened the box with a click and popped one into his mouth.

"There. Much better." He said, as he slid into the seat next to his marefriend once again. Dash giggled again, and nodded.

"I agree." She said, before getting up once again.

"Hey, Thanksgiving is coming up! Don't the recruits and Wonderbolts get a few days off?" She asked Soarin. Soarin beamed, and nodded, getting up as well.

"Yeah! Recruits and Wonderbolts get Wednesday through Sunday off from work! Isn't exciting?" He asked her happily. Dash smiled, and nodded, before quirking her eyebrows.

"How are you going to spend your four days off?" She inquired. Soarin thought about this, before shrugging.

"I actually have no idea. I'll probably just stay here. But anypony is allowed to go to see family or something. But my family... They're a little... I don't know how to explain it... But you should go home with your mother and father! I'm sure they'll be happy that you're away from... You know... Me..." He said, trailing off at the end. Blaze, who was still watching, nodded to himself.

But Dash didn't. She gave him a sympathetic look, and put a hoof on his shoulder.

"Sorry about my dad, Soar. He'll come around soon enough! Hopefully..." She said, mumbling the last part. Soarin heard it anyway. He turned back to her.

"Yeah... I know Dashie. I just wish he wouldn't be so harsh about this whole thing... But that doesn't matter. Are you going to take my advice and go spend Thanksgiving with your family?" He asked her. Dash thought about this for a while. Blaze was getting anxious. What was taking his daughter so long? She should have been nodding by now!

"I don't know... We rarely get to spend time together... This was our first time in weeks! Not including the... Incident." Dash told him. Soarin winced at the end part. And Blaze was shocked. His daughter wasn't coming home for the holidays?

"I'd really like to spend Thanksgiving with you, Soar!" She told him nervously. Soarin shook his head with a sigh.

"You have no idea how appealing that sounds... But you know you can't! Your parents wouldn't be the most supportive of that idea..." He said sadly. Dash shook her head.

"I know... Hey! I have an idea! How about you come home with me for Thanksgiving?" She suggested. Soarin's and Blaze's jaws both dropped down at the exact same time. Soarin was the first to react.

"WHAT? No way, Dashie! That would be the last resort! You go home, alright? Don't worry about me! I'll be fine! Besides, I can't intrude on your family time!" He said nervously. Dash looked up at him with pleading eyes.

"Please, Soarin? It'd give you time to socialize with my family! Once they get to know you, I'm sure they'll open up to you! You know my mom will be completely fine with the idea! Dad will make a fit... But I can convince him! Spectrum's coming home this year! He's coming with his wife!" Dash said excitedly. She was super happy that her brother was going to make it! Soarin raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Who's Spectrum?" He asked her. Dash mentally slapped herself. She forgot to tell her coltfriend about her sibling! She then cleared her throat.

"Spectrum Dash is my older brother. He got married four years ago, and moved to The Crystal Empire with his wife." Rainbow explained. Soarin nodded, but then gulped. And Dash knew why.

"Don't worry... He's not as overprotective as my father... He'll just question you a little. That's it. Nothing to be worried about." She reassured him. Soarin sighed in relief.

"Oh good. You had me worried for a second." He said. Dash chuckled, and nodded.

"So, what do you say?" She asked hopefully. Soarin thought about this, before sighing in defeat.

"Oh... Okay... Fine. Set it up." He said. Dash grinned, and ran out the mess hall door, leaving Soarin in utter shock.

"Uh... Love you too?" He called into the emptiness.

"MOM! Can I ask you something?" Rainbow Dash yelled to her mother, who was just finishing up her lunch. Firefly looked pleasantly surprised, but nodded.

"Sure, Dashie! What is it?" She asked. Dash took a deep breath.

"Is it okay if Soarin could come home for Thansgiving break?" She asked her. Firefly raised an eyebrow.

"Uh... Does your father know about this?" She asked her. Dash shook her head.

"Not yet... But I'm telling him next!" She replied. Firefly giggled, and Dash narrowed her eyebrows.

"You know something... Mom... What happened?" She asked her mother. Firefly broke into a fit of giggles, before replying.

"Your father was there. He followed you." She said simply. Dash instantly grew bright red.

"WHAT?" She asked in disbelief. Firefly raised an eyebrow.

"What did you do with him?" She asked suspiciously. Dash blushed even harder.

"That's not important. We just had a pleasant lunch together." She told her mother sternly. Firefly rolled her eyebrows.

"Sure you did..." She said. Dash just shrugged.

"So can Soarin come over?" She asked again. Firefly sighed, and nodded.

"Sure! Why not?" She said. Dash smiled, and hugged her.

"Thanks, Mom!"
